[Help!] Bricked Kindle Fire/ Won't even start

After I rooted my kindle and installed adw.launcher everything was going fine. I rebooted my kindle and out of nowhere it refuses to start. Absolutely nothing shows up at all. The screen doesn't come on, the logo, nothing. The battery was at 75% when it was working. Even when I plug it in the orange charge light doesn't even come on. I need help badly and I would prefer not to have to send it in to get a replacement. The entire reason I created this xda account was to fix this. Please I need help.

That doesn't sound good. Press and hold the on button for like 20 seconds and see if anything happens.

Try the Hard reset option as explained by GBH2 and if it doesn't help, then please list down what exactly did you do to root your device, stock FW version etc.

I have already tried the hard reset but to no avail. I have no idea what happened to it. I think I will just have to get a replacement. I followed instructions off of mobilemag and of course I can't place the link in this post.

I literally just had same issue... holing power button for 20+ seconds did the trick here.
Running CM7 w/ MAC address fix.

I also have a bricked Kindle and not sure what to do about it.
I had my KF rooted and working. Then, I followed these instructions to get a better keyboard. In short, I edited one row of the secure table in settings.db, trying to enable Hackers Keyboard. I followed the instructions very carefully, including changing permissions. When I rebooted, it stuck at the kindle fire logo, and it is still stuck there.
I can connect via adb, but can no longer burrito root. Can't run 'su'. I'm searching these forums trying to figure what to do next.

Thanks. I found that thread via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356257&page=61 and it saved the day.
I was able to fastboot, twrp, and eventually solve my problem.
I had updated settings.db, then used `adb push` to put it in the right place. Then, I chmod-ed it as the instructions warned. However, it was owned by root not system! With twrd, I was able to get back into adb. Chown-ing and chgrp-ing that file to system solved my problem.
(Unfortunately some of the other stuff I did along the way broke a few apps... anyway I'm happy to have a working KF again.)

Did you ever get your KF to work? I can not get mine to turn on after KFU 0.9.5 used to do perm root. Now nothing works at all

Kindle fire wont power on /boot
I'm facing the same issue here, i have FFF 1.4a and TWRP 2.2.2.1 installed and JB 4.2.1 from twv. However i noticed whenever i pressed reboot from menu or power it off, i cannot turn it on again.
Luckily i have an OTG cable which help me force boot it, but i want to solve the issue coz i dont want to use the OTG cable always to turn it on.
Note: Holding power button for 20secs did not solve the issue

Hello, i have a Factory Cable (USB cable) with a different pin configuration. Basically if you have a working bootloader, you just plug it in (with a PC) and it will go to the FFF screen.
I think my issue is a busted USB port already.

Dead is right on the mark for mine also. With pc never detecting my CM9 , I updated my TWRP to v2.2.2.1, in hopes to go to CM10
And for first time saw *bootloader* as an option in TWRP . Screeching halt!!! Beware.

Normally I would assume you had a 2nd generation device and tried to modify it, but I see your first post was made back in April and then edited two days ago?!? Is this a new problem or the same problem you had eight months ago?
I'm pretty sure your USB port isn't bad and you just have a broken bootloader. If you have a 1st generation device, the Firekit w/shorting trick to put the device in USBboot will do the trick.

This sounds like a completely different problem. You should probably start a new thread as well...In the Q&A section.

I have the exact same problem!!!!!!!!!
After I rooted my kindle, everything was going fine. My kindle turned off and when I rebooted, it got stuck in a bootloop. I tried to fix it by reflashing a fresh image and out of nowhere it refuses to start. Absolutely nothing shows up at all. The screen doesn't come on, the logo, nothing. The battery was at 75% when it was working.
This has been the problem since 5 months...
I am using a kindle fire 5th generation and don't have a factory cable.
Can somebody plz help!!!!!!!!!!!!
If so, can someone post a link for a cheap factory cable however I really don't want to use/buy one.

[Q] Kindle Fire 2 completely bricked after flashing wrong bootloader.

Hi. So the other day I installed TWRP on my Kindle Fire successfully. The KF was at 10.2.6, I'm not sure if that means it's a Kindle Fire 2 or not. Anyways, when I went to flash FFF, I stupidly flashed the .zip as a bootloader, thus making my Kindle Fire completely unusable. When I press the power button, nothing at all happens. Nothing I do will make the screen turn on or the power button to flash in any way. I've tried using Firekit with usbboot and the shorting trick, but that hasn't worked for me. (I just installed stock Ubuntu to a flash drive with the fk file on root, I'm fairly certain that's all that needed to be done?)
Anyways, my Kindle is unresponsove, and the usbboot trick has yet to work for me. I really want to save this guy. I've heard the KF cannot be completely bricked through software/flashing. I hope it's true! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

if that is your software version then yes you have kindle fire 2, i'd wait for someone with more experience on here to post, but it sounds to me like you are going to need a factory cable

Thanks fro replying. I'm pretty sure a factory cable only puts it into fastboot if you have a working bootloader. I don't, so I don't think it would work.

I remember an instance where a friend of mine had a broken bootloader, and we used a factory cable to restore it, this was on the kindle fire. we had to first reflash the bootloader. I hope this is possible here.

I think you need a Factory cable to recover.
If you connect the Kindle to the PC and try adb devices in a terminal window, what do you see?
From the software version, you have KF2, as such you need to use the tools and ROMs from the KF2 threads. You could try to use the one click freedom boot and TWRP installer, to see if you can get that on.
From there you would probably have to push one of the 10.1 ROMs on, or the 10.2.6 recovery image, and then start again.
This seems to be happening a lot, and could be avoided if people read a bit more before using the wrong tools.

Howdy. I just fashioned a factory cable, just jumping +5V to pin 4, right? It seems to be doing absolutely nothing. No lights or anything are turning on. The freedom boot just spits out "error: device not found" and hangs on "Pushing Stack". Again, I was under the impression that the factory cable only made it boot in fastboot if you already have a working bootloader. I'll try loading into Ubuntu and see what it says in terminal. Thanks

Leave your Kindle plugged in for an hour using the normal cable, as it may be totally flat.
The attached diagram shows what pins need joining. If you can, make sure none of the other pins are shorting.
Hold the power button for 20 seconds, plug in your fastboot cable, power on the Kindle.
You should see some traffic lights on the screen.
If you can get fastboot enabled, you should be able to push the correct partitions back on using the partitions from the factory restore image, your backup files or from the recovery thread. Hope you get it running.

I tried the fastboot cable out on a working Kindle Fire, and it worked correctly, so I did wire it right. I did as you said, holding the power button down and then plugging in the cable, and nothing happens still on the KF2. I have access to the insides, should I unplug the battery? It should be around 85% charged. Thanks again.
Edit: BIG NEWS~ Not really. When I plug the Kindle Fire with the fastboot cable into Windows, it appears under Device Manager as "Unknown Device" with a yellow triangle, but nothing shows up on the Kindle, no lights or anything. Hmph.

Urgh. I closed it up. Is there any way they'd know if I'd opened it?

I'm in exactly the same boat as you, also flashed FFF (by accident) on my device. Haven't been able to fix it yet but I do have a factory cable. Also did the USB trick, but that didn't have an effect either.

In my case, I did by accident because it wasn't clear to me which KF generation I had (I've bricked mine just after christmas). These forums were not really clear either, I had a Kindle Fire so I just looked for a KF guide. After I bricked it I found out my device was a second generation Kindle Fire.

I was thinking that all kindle fire are the same... installed fire fire fire using KFU and device got bricked....!

Nothing whatsoever.
I can't really send it back to Amazon, because of two reasons:
1) I already opened up the back
2) It was gifted to me from the US, and there is no Dutch Amazon, so I'd have to send the device back to the person who gifted to me, that person has to mail it to Amazon from there, and the replacement device has to come back the same way (via that person). That's not a situation I'd like to put that person in.

I am sure they can figure it out. Can you boot into TWRP?
If so, you can still recover...

I don't no what happened I was running ics on my fire when I decided to go back to stock so I downloaded the file from amazon renamed it update.zip flashed it and it is now stuck at the orange and white logo no twrp or any thing I have a factory cable coming in the mail I have tried kindle fire unbrick and reinstalling drivers manually changing boot modes nothing is working I really need help I use this device for school

What happens when you plug it in? If it turns on, hold the power button for about ten seconds, and come back about 2-3 hours later.
It should be mostly charged if not completely charged by that point.

Did you do what I recommended? What happens when you turn on the kindle now? Do you see a screen with a blue and white kindle fire logo?

I tried telling you twice what you need to do, so let me explain it again...
The Frequently Asked Questions post I directed you to clearly explains in several places that failure to wipe data (factory reset) in recovery before flashing a ROM will cause problems. It also tells you that when users revert back to stock without wiping data, they get stuck at the Kindle Fire logo (Q:16). When FireFireFire gets overwritten by the stock bootloader (which is what happens when you revert to stock), there is no access to fastboot for changing the bootmode to recovery so that data can be wiped (which is the only way to fix the problem). Also, without FireFireFire installed, the only way to access fastboot is through the shell (which is obviously not possible in this case) OR with a factory cable. I believe I hinted to the need for a factory cable in one of my previous posts?
So try to pay attention to the information that is available to you or you'll risk getting yourself into another situation that you cannot get out of in your own capacity, and you'll then have to rely on the accuracy of the information given to you (and the limited patience) from a******s like me

When I plug the device in with the factory cable the screen starts
Flashing on and off

Plug your device into USB (oem cable) and hold the power button until it shuts off and let it charge overnight.

You're going to have to be a little more specific. Just saying "i can not install twrp" doesn't give anyone any clue as to why.

Kindle Fire 2nd gen - red triangle; cannot boot

Hello everyone...
I've been reading all the threads on this forum for a few months, but I couldn't find an concrete and final answer to this problem:
I have a Kindle Fire 7'' 2nd Generation, and after rooting and installing ICS ( with KF First Aide) i noticed that my wallpaper was flashing and the notification bar was disappearing. I tried to fix it but suddenly the RED TRIANGLE ( with exclamation point inside) appeared and looks like this:

"Your Kindle device cannot boot.
You can reset your device to Factory defaults to fix this issue (all data will be deleted from the device).
<Menu options>
To reboot your device press and hold the power button for 4 seconds and release.
To reset to Factory Defaults, press the power button 5 times in succession"
None of those options work, and when I connect the USB cable to my PC nothing happens.
Is there someone who knows how can I fix it, but please... explain from the scratch because I am a total beginner. ( I rooted it only by following instructions for noobs, step by step)
I would be very thankful.
BTW I don't have a Factory Cable and if I have to buy one it would take about 40 days, and if it is possible to make one- I also don't know how.

Why would buying a cable take 40 days? I bought one off ebay for £3 and had it within 2 days. It was easier than making my own, and i have a soldering iron.

Buying one should be quick and easy. You only have to look in the forum to see lots of posts of people struggling with the KF2, and how often a Factory Cable is required.
It should be a recommendation that you get the cable before doing anything.

Actually the tutorials for 2nd bootloader/TWRP for Kindle's of all kinds do suggest that you grt a fastboot cord. Show me one that does not. It falls on the person doing the modding to go ahead and read and maybe do a little bit of research first don't you think?
Edit: The problem is some tutorials failed to update when the firmware was patched creating many bootloops if the firmware was not downgraded to 7.2.3 or 7.3.0 first. Still warnings always exhisted to backup and get a fastboot cord.

I recovered ( unbricked) my Kinde 2gen and it's working now.. but how can I root it now and instal ICS or JB on it?
I did it once on the same device using KF First Aide ( the one with 45 options) but now it cannot gain root access... why?
So:
1. How to gain root access?
2. How to instal android ICS or Jelly Bean on it, but with noobs description please

Glad your tablet is working.
So first you want to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 and download "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31: [Improved Root-Method by Ariel Berkman]" There is a of stuff in that post but v31 was an update to the OP so trust that it is correct. You will download and run the bat and root your KF2.
Now to get a custom ROM you first need to install a 2nd bootloader and TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) The best thing you can do is read and ask if needed so you don't brick your Kindle.

Plug your fastboot cable in. Then run the KFFirstAide.
And to all you toilers, first you flash 10.2.4 bootloader, and then boot up and install the Alien Box (Tweezermod), and then you get second bootloader. Instructions to thank Hashcode or FMkilo (or whichever the guy is).

Hey, sorry for the late reply...
Well first install the KFFirstAide ( the program with 40+ options ). You can find it easy here.
Now, you need to have factory cable. Turn off your Kindle, plug the factory cable and turn the Kindle On. You should see your Kindle in Fastboot status now, showing green and red light circles.
Next, start the KFFirstAide and run option 1 or 2, and when you get to the question "would you like us to switch your Kindle into Fastboot status" you should answer NO, because you already are into fastboot.
Then, just let the program do it's magic and you'll have your Kindle in it's original version of Android ( the Amazon version).

It's a pain in the ass sometimes...
When you connect it with the factory cable, does it show the Fastboot on the screen? If yes, make sure you answer the questions correctly from the KF First Aide program, for example if it asks you do you have the Kindle Fire 2 gen?
But if it cannot recognize the device at all and it shows "waiting for device" for the whole time, I really don't know what can you do, except disconnect and connect again...
Maybe you could send me photos of how it looks the screen after every step you make including the questions when you run the KF First Aide?

[Q] Can not get y Kindlefire to work

Hi all,
As a prerequisite to this, I don't know much about Kindle fires but I am tech savvy. That being said, my fiancee's mom gave her a broken kindle fire for free so assuming it's fixable, free kindle fire for us. After doing a lot of research I believe it to be in a bootloop. I've installed KFU and got the drivers.bat file to work (which took a long time). But now the ADB status is offline and the boot is unknown. When I go into my device manager there isn't even an android device on it. So I'm stuck here. If anyone has any suggestions I would be forever thankful.

Can you further explain the second option as if I was 5 years old. Because I'm lost trying to decipher it. As for option 1 I really don't want to have to install linux.

Thanks for the reply. As you can see in my original post at the top I also stated I knew next to nothing about Kindle fires. Just because I'm tech savvy does not mean I know every term ever used by people talking about a product I stated I know nothing about. Thanks Andro, I'll have to get my hands on a factory cable once I get my paycheck.
P.S. I discovered something new about the Kindle today. IT only boot loops when plugged into a wall, when plugged into my computer it only glows orange on the charger light but doesn't loop. Tonight I left it plugged into a wall just to see what would happen when I woke up it was sitting on at the unlock screen. When I unlocked it worked for about ten seconds before restarting itself and going back into a bootloop.

I honestly have no idea. The Kindle was given to us in this broken state and I've never used it before. I'm not able to get my computer to recognize it either. So I'm basically lost on any information other than it's a first generation Kindle Fire.

All I really remember about it was it flashes Kindlefire for a few seconds and then it's like a darkish backround picture with a long yellow bar around the mid section that you swipe to unlock it. I can try and get to repeat itself to get to that point and get more details if need be. Sorry I can't say much it only stays there for a few seconds.

It is first gen then, but its not rooted huh?

Yeah. When I was in this situation, it was online for a few seconds while booting up and I installed TWRP during those few seconds using KFU in the dev thread. hope it works.

Or check whether their is any problem in the USB port

I had to install the new TWRP while I was in TWRP, my PC wold see the kindle but would not install it fully.
sometimes, you have to reboot several times but the actual install is quick.
then it reboots and you have a new recovery option during boot
