listen guys last night i really thought i had bricked my friends phone bc i made the noobiest mistake of my life and felt so confident in my rooting abilities i didnt even question not making a nandroid.....
once again my fellow xda brethren have been here to save my life and phone! thanks so much guys! worked like a FREAKIN CHARM and i never breathed easier!
one thing i just want to add tho is information like that is not readily available...we should add it to the sticky or make it just a little more obvious. i searched and searched and searched and found nothing but some old ass threads that didnt really apply

Virgin Mobile's new S2 is actually just an E4GT with VM branded software. VM runs on Sprint towers, but if we flash your roms certain things won't work. I'm here to ask if any devs would be willing to help us. Our forum is on phandroid, but most of you guys are on xda. Like I said, your roms will boot but certain things (mms/4g/3g) won't work. If anyone would be willing to help us, please contact me on xda or find our forum on android forums (it's under "Samsung Galaxy S2 4G"). Thanks and merry Christmas.

I have a sprint e4gt flashed to virgin Mobile and everything on every rom works great. Need to fix apn settings for mms to work but never ran into any other problems.. Maybe it's because it's a sprint phone..

If it helps any our model number is SPH-D710VMUB. Looking forward to hearing from you guys. Also, if anyone can point a dev to this thread, that'd be great.

One thing I'm going to experiment with after activating the GN2 today is a quick flash of CSC data. The goal would be that you flash this image in Odin after a build and it will apply the correct settings.
Now keep in mind I won't be able to test beyond flashing as this phone will be deactivated. But if it works - and I should be able to see what the settings are at least - I'll put it out there for others to test.
Until then the best way to get around it is to modify the settings manually. Sprint, Boost and Virgin are the same h/w, all the issues you are experiencing are settings based only.
I'm quite curious about this... Will the Sprint rom work for this phone? Or would I lose some kind of functionality?
I'm about to recieve Virgin Mobile's S2 and I don't want to run into any kind of issues
It will just gotta change MMS settings
Were you able to change your APN settings on a custom ROM? I'm on paranoid and its not letting me I'm trying to flash a e4gt to metro.

I think you'll have to go in and change it manually. I think the file is called apns.xml? Correct me if I'm wrong, someone.

Should just be a mmsc setting change
Sprint touchwiz doesn't have files to work with virgins mms. That's why there's no tw fix yet, only cm10. You can read more about it in one of the mms fix threads, but I can't remember which one. I'd expect it to be okay with the virgin Mobile rom sextape is going to release soon though. :fingerscrossed:

No success as of yet. I flashed a sense based rom and with all the same options for networks and set everything to the best of my abilities and still no change. Six bands of signal strength in roam mode. I have 3g showing, great fast web access and still no phone in roaming. I get the same recorded message I stated in OP.
I'm baffled. Should I try a nandroid restore of the phone rooted, but with the stock rom and then flash back to the rom I'm running now?
Help is much appreciated at the moment.

Two questions. First, can you RECEIVE calls when roaming, and second, when roaming, do you dial the area code when you try to make a call (I know it sounds like a dumb question, but......)?
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much

Your first question is a puzzler. I really don't know if I can receive for certain. I must try that.
Yes, on the area code question.
Thanks for asking.

Can't think of much else. I'd try and flash back to a Sense ROM and update your profile and PRL (since you can't do this from CyanogenMod or any other AOSP ROM). Might be something that can be fixed in QPST (also something you can only access from a Sense ROM, from your phone dialer) but I have never messed with those settings. Hopefully somebody else will chime in. Need to see if you can receive incoming calls while roaming, though. Also appears that you don't have the newest radio, but the one you have isn't all that old so I doubt that's the issue.

Is the radio used for data as well? Because I'm getting great throughput on the internet when I'm roaming. Unfortunately my knowledge isn't extensive enough to know. I'm an infant at this at the present time. I don't know how deeply I wish to go.....I'm just having fun learning new stuff.
I appreciate your thoughts on this tho'. Who knows, maybe I've stumbled upon some strange bug.

Not quite sure about your radio question. I'm hoping somebody more knowledgeable will come along and have a better answer to your question. Did you ever figure out if you can receive calls while roaming?

Haven't checked the in-coming call as yet, just too much on my plate at the moment.
What I meant by the radio question is this: If I am getting great internet/web performance in a roaming area, it tells me data is getting through. Can I safely assume that the telephone function uses the same data stream to perform calls? The reason I ask is because if they are, then there must be some switch/command/whatever that is in the wrong state and must be flipped back to where it belongs. Of course, I'm sure I'm over simpIifying because I'm not well versed enough in the language and functions. Is that clearer?
Thanks again for your help.:good:
No, calls and sms are transferred over native 1X, internet access is 3G

Hey guys this is actually my first post and I am still somewhat of a noob when it comes to rooting the android system. I recently rooted my GS3 on AT&t and I'm sorry if this has already been posted about, but I need some help. Every ROM I have tried which includes paranoid android, CM, and a handful of others I can't remember the names of off hand all have the same issue. Whenever I go from basic 4G to 4G LTE I loose my data connection. When I go back to basic 4G I have to restart my data connection to reconnect. The ONLY ROM I have found that doesn't have this issue is the Synergy Touchwiz.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again for any help and again I'm sorry if this has already been posted about.

Hello, idk if I'm posting in the right area so please forgive me for any mistakes i made but i have two questions if anyone would kindly answer for me. I recently installed P.A.C Man Rom and for the most part i love it, the only problem i seem to get is the battery life drains pretty quickly & the phone gets a little warm when the screen is on. I don't know if that's normal but I'm wondering if i underclock it would that possibly fix my two problems I'm having and if so could anyone recommend what i should set it to and which is the best governor to use.
Thank You in advance for your guy's help with my newbie questions lol
You could try another kernal but it won't help cause we don't know what exactly your battery is.
I suggest going on Google and type, "Betterbatterystats xda" on Google and download the latest version. It's an app that tells you about your battery usage in depth so you will see what exactly is killing your battery.
Did you just flash the rom? If you did, wait a few days for everything to settle down. Battery should get better as a day or two progress.
I suggest taking a look at these threads. Plenty of great advice and tips for you to read.

Aldo check your baseband. If you are currently on MD5, try using the LJC modem. A few people have reported similar things when using this baseband with CM/AOSP based roms.

You do have a playstore right? If I'm not mistaken you need to flash gapps after pacman to get the playstore.

Hi everyone, I'm back with more questions. But first let me give a huge thanks to all that have helped me with other things. You guys helped me go from some who was terrified of the though of rooting and flashing to someone who not only rooted but has tried a few different Roms. That's huge for me as I am not a technically minded person. Thanks everyone! I hope I can help someone someday as much as in have been helped here.
Now for my question.
Since I have flashes my first custom ROM I have been getting horrible data speeds on 3g and 4g. I'm talking it takes me back to the AOL dial up days kind of slow.
I figured that I needed to update my prl/profile so I asked how to, and i did that. But no change in data speeds.
So here I am scratching my head as what to do next. Any suggestions?

We need more info. What ROM are you currently on? Have you tried updating the APN file? If you flash the latest Carbon you will have the best speeds available for AOSP based ROMs. If you flash nexOgen or Optimus you will be on Stock based Roms that have slightly better data speeds. Or you LGNPST back to the orginal factory set up and see if that makes a difference.
Lol I forgot to include the info.
I'm running the latest carbon nightly 4.3
Honestly I haven't a clue what a apn file is so I don't believe I have updated it. How would I go about doing that?
