I've been playing more and more into the android scene with my T-Mobile s2 and I'm really liking it a lot . But it only makes me wonder how much better my experience could be on a s3 ? If I'm right the s3 scene seems to be similar to the s2 scene but they have more ram and slightly better hardware ? I would like more hardware power to play with . But how many versions do they have of the s3 and which one is the best bang for the buck ? My s2 was only 299 at Walmart , maybe I'm dreaming thinking I might be able to find a similar deal on s3's ?

Personally....I'd sit on the S2 and squirrel money away....wait for prices to drop, or maybe used. Just don't think you'll be all that impressed with the S3 over the S2. My buddy has one....doesn't seem much better....a bit maybe, but I'll pass.
But if you do get one, enjoy.....definitely an upgrade anyway!
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
Yea i was thinking that too. The only thing in don't like about s2 is the ram is always up to 50% - 79% usage BC there is only like 789 megs on s2 . I saw my buddies s3 just a few minutes ago and it does look identical to a s2 with a 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 ROM flashed.
I may just live life with the s2 for a while longer maybe a year or so until I feel comfortable with the prices or get a deal on a s4.

If you are on a 4.1.2 rom you can modify your services.jar with v6 supercharger and set low memory
killer to aggressive and you will always have 40% of ram left or more depending on how much you have going on. Had this phone a year now myself skipped the s3 might get s4 soon though.

I think I saw a ROM that had that option in its setup before it ran pretty well. I'm on cynogenmod 10.1 updated to latest nightly atm.

So I have the original vibrant and I was wondering should I upgrade to the SII for free today or pay for an SIII next week? Any input from the people that have been using it is appreciated! I just don't know if the SIII is worth paying for if I can get the SII for free... Thanks!!!

S3 of course . I m going to switch someday lol
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Ya know, I was a vibrant user, recently upgraded to the t989 and I love it (of course). If you look at the specs on the s3 you're not going to see a huge boost in performance. Slightly different aestethic design to it, a few features that, while pretty cool, are already being provided as mods for the s2, thanks to the brilliant devs here xda.
Another thing to look at is the fact that the s2 has been on the market long enough that its bugs have been worked out and there are endless options for modification.
Last but not least, tmo is offering the s2 for free? Wish we had known that was coming a couple months ago..
If it were my wallet, I'd go with the s2 and use the money on a new BBQ. Good luck with your decision and I hope you enjoy whichever device you go with.

Yes t mobile is having a sale this weekend only with a mail in rebate. I checked it out on the website and called customer service and they confirmed. I might get the s2 and I can always return it next week if I change my mind. Thanks for the help!

Really I just want something faster and 4g and a better camera. What's your opinions on how the s2 performs in these categories?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
s3 is a great phone and you should upgrade if you're on the vibrant. I could not justify upgrading from an s2 to an s3 this seems like just an incremental upgrade imo. But from the vibrant the s3 will be a huge improvement.
Honestly the one S if anything seems like the most exciting device(I know I will get flamed). If you can get around not having an SD card(I cant right now but I can see myself giving it up in the future.) I would go with that.
Metal, honestly, the s2 really meets your needs as far as what you're looking for, camera is crystal clear, even with flash in poor lighting. The phone is super responsive, never lags for me and has 4g. Certainly not trying to talk you out of the s3 tho, just saying my experience with the s2 has been very positive.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
The specs of the SII vs SIII aren't too far off. They'll both perform very well (with the slight improvements going to the SIII of course). The one area that is tempting/makes me jealous about the SIII is the screen resolution. That sucker is very crisp, and makes our screen seem rather low-res.
However, having said that the SII sounds like it will meet your needs. It has a fantastic camera, and very high speeds. I'm also not sure if the SIII supports full 42mb/s like the SII does (because of the talk of a unified model), so it may be slower but if someone has more knowledge perhaps they can correct me.
When it comes down to it, it depends if you think it's worth the $200 difference. For me, I'd probably take an SII and call it a day.

How's many current S2 owners are jumping ship to the S3??
Just wondering because for the ones that are, we are gonna need to stick together and start a bounty for TDJ and Eugene when we get there.
Gotta have them on board.

I am not going for s3. May be i will go for next nexus or note 2 when they availble.
There is nothing new in sgs3 I mean this time Samsung did not introduced any thing first time. Many companies already released their phones with HD screen and with quad core processor.
I am expecting something unseen from Samsung but this time they did not.

For those that think its just incremental upgrade, I think not. S4 processor is greatly improved over the S3. It has improvements in battery life and power. See this website of various benchmarks and phone comparisons

The thing about this is ... if u get an s2 or s3 are u gonna run it stock... answer is probably not so next question is do u like touchwiz enough to keep it... reason for asking is that if u plan on running cm9, or aokp then the difference between the two is minimal I'd say the s3 obviously is gonna outperform the s2 but in day to day use on cm9 and aokp I'd say u wouldn't really be able to tell the difference.

I couldn't agree more. Of course the S3 is faster, but I honestly can't think of applications or situations in which the SII fails me. Sure maybe it will be 2ms faster to load the Homescreen, but we're not talking about noticeable differences. Until software catches up and creates more demanding apps (or perhaps they're out and I just don't want to use them yet), there will not be much differentiation.
I don't see the point of performing an upgrade simply for upgrade's sake. I have a desktop that's aged quite well. The processor is nearly 5.5 years old, and the graphics cards are 4 years old. There are computers that can run laps around mine, but in the end it doesn't matter because all of the programs and games I play run nearly flawlessly at max or near max settings. Sorry if that's OT, but it's the same concept.

Right, I think the question is will it get the full 42mb/s.
I see conflicting information regarding what type of 4g speeds this thing will get (I mean HSPA+ 21 or 42mb/s). Some sites say there will be a T-Mo version, and it may have the fastest quadcore while other carriers get slower ones, and then others say the phone will be unified.
Does anyone have a recent trustworthy link regarding this issue?
The s2 is great. I'd stock with it if I didn't have an upgrade available. But since I do, I'm getting the gs3. The variety of cases alone makes it better for me as I like to use multiple cases and swap them frequently.

Note2 just around the corner
Forget about the Note, the Note2 is coming out at the end of Augest or early Sept. Why in the hell Tmobile is even bothering with this is beyond me. My guess would be that their so far down the dev cycle with their crap "tmobile apps" that they are just going to move forward and not listen to anyone. There was a poll out a few weeks ago that asked the question
Why do you root your phone
1) To install Custom Roms
2) To remove carrier bloatware
3) both
The results were something like 83% I think for number 2. This shows in the ratings for all of the Tmobile forced bloatware apps in the
play store. With comments like how do I remove this, I don't want this on my phone and I don't even use this why are you making me update it.
etc.
If Tmobile would LISTEN and not install bloatware and make those apps up to the user with links to them in the play store they would have less
bricked phones and warranty issues. Less customer churn and more than anything else they would be able to deploy new phones alot faster.
Its a shame to cause they say they listen to their users but its apparent thats not the case.
They screwed us on the S3 with the dual core deal. From what I heard they were offered the Korean S3 but passed since it was more money and its deployment cycle date was later than the dual core so they felt they would have missed the boat. They also charge more and made it hell of confusing for those wanting to buy it. Like its 329 plus rebate and then $20 payment a month for x months. I mean who comes up with that crap!!! Now their bringing an almost year old phone to market "as new". It really makes zero since. I mean how are people going to feel when they sign a contract for 2 years only to hear the NEW Note2 is coming out weeks later. Samsung will be doing their big promo's and such for the Note2 and you will be holding your what you thought was a new phone in you hand going wtf I just bought this!!! I think its going to cause a fare amount of confusion and could cause some backlash. No one wants to feel taken "Taken" but this is going to cause at least some ill will. The only saving grace is the Note2 will take a month or two to get here state side but still. Every chance Tmobile has had to really stand out from the rest and offer really great phones that are better than what is out there yet they keep dropping the ball. Makes me seriously want to take the new CEO position and really turn the company around cause it doesn't look like anyone with vision is driving the bus.

This is a paradox that will always be there. In November when you get your Nexus, you will want to hold off until April for the S3-Plus or whatever is on the verge of coming out then.
I agree...however if this was a question for a gs2 user I would tell them neither! The s2 rooted with the right rom and kernel is as good if not better than anything out right now. In my opinion, if you're even reading any of these forums and interested in flashing roms and personalization you should move to a nexus device. They get all the newest and coolest stuff first cause that's what Google uses to develop on. So SAVE YOUR MONEY until another bad ass nexus is on the market. It will probably be expensive so everyone do yourself a favor and start saving!

Still rocking my S2, and waiting till my upgrade in December. We'll see what's out then. Nothing worth leaving my S2 for, and Nexus isn't worth leaving T-Mobile for, so. Honestly, I would get the Note, but only because I love big screens, and I work from my phone and my tablet all day.
problem is the note is just a bigger version of your S2 not the note2. It's last year's model from att with a stamp that says T-Mobile and their new "app pack" which is nothing more than you can download for free from the playstore. It's getting upgraded to ICE but I would bet that's as far as it goes due to hardware.

Well I've heard a lot of speculation and I wanted another users opinion and a honest one. The phone seems so damn slow and I got a s3 with a mildly cracked screen for $100. IMHO I couldn't pass that one up. Figured sell the note for $300 and pay $175 to repair the screen. Still got pocket change afterwards. Does seem hella fast compared to the note

I had both notes (i717 and n7000). The american note was slow. The international was a lot better. But. With the emmc brick bug, I was getting sick of ****ting my pants every time I wiped the phone. With much caution it is a great phone. The S3 though is that much better.

Bigger screen with the same resolution as the S3, pass.
Bigger screen is nice in bed watching youtube and movies, but you could have a tablet instead, and keep a phone for calling and stuff.
Phone has nice specs but with S3 and a 7" tablet w/pen functions I don't need it. I can see how a device like this could really catch on in the business community though. Wish I could put it in the hands of all my field techs but the cost of data plans is still too high.
I want to see what the lower dpi screens about. Also probably won't get cm10 for note 2 and even if we do probably won't get the s-pen working. I might pass and keep the s3.

I think it is worth upgrading, at least for me personally, since I had the s3 & my upgrade since Dec.1080HD 5" display, 13mp camera (for family pics), bigger stock battery, 4.2.2 out of the box & more. Besides, the google edition is around the corner so you can always grab that. Or the Note 3 when it comes out.
The point is, there's always something better. The important thing is for you to be happy with your choice.
