Is anyone working on a port from the tmo s4 to the tmo s3?? It is 4.2 TW isnt it?? Would love to see it..
I have started to look into it but may need custom kernel, and not quite sure all the files I need to get it to boot... will keep this thread updated as progress is made

There's GlamourS4 for the international S3. It's still buggy, but once it gets better, could anyone port that? I'm not sure how difficult porting can be though..

I believe the international s3 is different from our phone. Theres's already custom roms for d2tmo for the s4 so i would say it would be easier to port from d2tmo S4 then it would be from the international s4

Thats all anyone could ask bro.. thanks
I know it's a different model, but wouldn't it be easier porting a ROM from a different S3, which would be more similar to our phone, than a completely new S4? I'm sincerely asking because I don't know much about porting and all.

Touch Wiz is Touch Wiz.. Tmobile is Tmobile. A Tmobile rom would be much easier to port then an international s3
the i9300 and t999 are to different due to the cpu . if you can trick the i9300 rom to think the t999 is the i9300 than maybe its pssible
Ok so its been slow going but I finally got a boot logo and animation but stuck in boot loop. Anyone know how to force 4.2.2 to enable android debugging? As of right now I am using all 4.2.2 files, mostly from s4 but needed kernel an libs for cooked rom. Will let you know how it goes.

You should be able to by editing build.prop if I'm not mistaken.

Hey guys I was just wondering seeing as how the note had the same exact specs as our phone save for the screen size, resolution, and s pen would it be possible for their roms to work with ours? Like the skyrocket
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Isn't their chipset a 8660 whereas ours is a 8060?
edit: wait the N7003 variant has our chipset. there is a good possibility then.
I tried to flash one, and got stuck at the samsung logo, I'm not sure if it's because I didn't change the kernel or something.

Try to flash one of the Skyrocket kernels, after flashing the Note one.

That wouldn't help the skyrocket kernels are the same as our phone. The phone would of at least booted if the notes kernel were the same as ours.
Both would boot. Both have EXACT hardware.

It shouldn't matter if they flash a skyrocket kernel with the NOTE ROM because the skyrocket kernel is the same as the hercules except for orientation.
As of right now, the roms for your S3 are not meant to be used on other S3 variants. Bricks might happens or a soft one might happen. Before flashing a Rom make sure you are in the right development section an you read the entire op, twice. Until other devs or experienced users find a way to make them cross compatible, please refrain from using other carriers S3 roms.
Also wind mobile an Tmobile are interchangeable, just don't flash the modems.
ONLY FLASH THE ROMS IN THIS FORUM!

I second this, guys PLEASE don't risk it. It is not worth it. Right now I think most devs are working on their own ROMs, but we should have a patch soon to allow cross-compatibility.
think some peeps are confused by whats before tmo development. (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III) just my opinion but good idea on thread.
Mr Highway:
Could you start another thread for Windmobile Android Development?
In the past all Windmobile phones are just T-mobile phone rebadge.
In this case, it does not in terms of kernels....(and may be baseband)
I am working on this so that all roms will work on all carriers

AMEN!! Some fool I know ALREADY called me with a bricked gs3! I'm gonna sit back and let the pros do their thing, and that's DEFINITELY the safest bet!
thanks for the reminder and jsut to make sure ....
i have rogers sgh-i747
i want to be in this AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III - xda-developers thread for everything correct ?
and not in the Samsung Galaxy S III I9300 thread ?
I keep seeing posts about ROMs that can work on these variants of galaxy S3s. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the ROMs supposed to be specific to GSM or CDMA? When I flashed windows based roms on my touch pro II, that was one of the things to look out for. Is it possible to create a ROM for all carriers?

Yes and no.
With the use of aroma-installer, we could set it up to detect your phone type (well, not we....I don't know that much about it but I saw the thread discussing this) and aroma would be able to install the necessary files based on your phone.
As of now, for instance, mine works across all GSM carriers. clark44 is current working to get everything switched up so it also works for Sprint (mostly appears to be the apk files and XML files) that are specific to the phone. As of now, he has it booting and working fine except there is a large rush of FCs on initial bootup but then everything runs fine.
I wasn't even aware you could make a patch to allow cross-compatibility! XDA never fails to surprise
Just a thought, but maybe they could do it like the SlimROM on multiple devices. He has a common base ROM and another flashable for each device supported. It works out perfectly and multiple ROMs for multiple carriers.
I figure it will be easier than doing it for different devices since I read that all the US variants are essentially the same. Not sure but worth a look.

I use it for the Vibrant

Will there ever be any SGH-T999V development?
Does anyone think that someone with a SGH-T999V Wind Mobile variant will ever be able to root their phone so they can overclock the cpu, etc?
Why not? I am using a custom rom and overclocked to 1890 at the moment.
Just use the windows way to root. I knbow it works
I have not tried the toolkit.
If you are going to flash a custom rom just make sure it does not contain the boot, modem and amss file in the rom that you are flashing.

I'm more curious as to what exactly the differences are between the 2 variants (i.e. t999 vs t999v). What could possibly make them so different from each other that ROMs from tmobile wouldn't work on wind GS3?
What if you accidentally tried to flash i9300 rom and your phone is not turning on.
With the forums changed I accidentally flashed the wrong version rom on my phone. :crying:

Thanks for the link, unfortunately the phone will not go into download mode for odin, it won't even turn on.
After doing some research it looks like I have to fix it through jtag.
I think I could do it, but you need some expensive jtag box that connects to the computer(It's called the Riff Box), but it would be cheaper if I just sent my phone into here it costs $60. Not ideal, but not a complete disaster either. Unless there is some other way to JTAG I am out of options.

Hey everyone,
I'm new to the whole flashing phones thing (I've recently had the guts to try it out) and I was wondering if it was possible to flash the "Jelly Beans 10" ROM originally from the Verizon Galaxy S3 thread on my Rogers Galaxy S3. This is the first ROM I have considered trying out and all the features look pretty cool, but looking around the forums it seems I can only flash roms that are specific to my phone(?) so I was wondering if it indeed is compatible or not. The link to the original ROM thread is below:

Thanks for all your help and I hope to hear from some of you guys soon
Cheers
Most likely, NO...
The Verizon model has different wireless module and it would not work. I wouldn't risk it.

The roms you want to install are the i747 one these are the at&t rom that work with your phone, be sure to check your model number to be sure. yours will probably be i747m the "m" doesn't really matter that I s just for the canadian variants, there are a lot of roms out there for your device, just make sure you read the reviews and follow flashing inductions properly. Thumbs up if this helped

You don't want to flash a international version of the firmware to your canadian S3.. That will brick it.
Also, if you searched a little, you'd know that we have 4.2.2 ROMs all over here. Please take a couple hours and go read the stickies.

Ok and when I bought my phone I did try flashing the other i9300 rom, but it only soft bricked the phone. I easily unbricked it by flashing the stock rom. It's just that I noticed that some developers ported some roms from sprint to AT&T. What I really wanted was multi-window. But thanks anyways.

Should've been clearer with your question. Either way, don't flash a I9300 ROM
As for multi-window, some ROMs offer that feature but you'll have to search for them as I don't use it myself. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Good luck!

Its easier to go to and from AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile because of the similar hardware. I'd you need a port its pretty simple.
Unfortunately the international ROM has different hardware (quad core CPU, 1gb ram) which makes it very difficult to port over to our ROMs. Most devs don't even bother.

Oh I see now, thanks for the info.
I am trying to understand that porting process as well. Could you not flash a bootloader and a kernel to make the i9300 rom launch on the i747? Sorry I was just wanting a touchwiz rom that was later than 4.1.1 for the i747. Sorry I am sure this is a ridiculous question but I just want to understand the portion of this that makes it so difficult. Thank you.

Those kernels are only for the international version and should never be flashed unless you want a brick instead of a phone.
^ this and please edit and remove those kernel names before a noob here flashes any of those kernels and then has a 600 dollar paperweight.
