[Q] Galaxy Nexus returned with unlocked bootloader and different firmware - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello all,
hope I've come to the right place...
I sent my Gnex back to my carrier (3UK) for repair; the screen had lots of banding, however, the device has been repaired and returned with an unlocked bootloader and different firmware {4.2.1 (JOP40D.I9250XWMA2)} yakjuxw. I have an unlocked padlock on the boot screen.
I basically want to update to 4.2.2 provided by Google rather than the current 4.2.1 provided by Samsung. A lot of the guides I see, also aim to unlock the bootloader and add custom recoveries, I want the phone to be as stock as possible.
Can someone please advise me how best to do this without screwing up my phone!
My environment is Windows XP/Ubuntu Natty
Thanks in advance to all who help

it is easy to learn!
for lazy people, flash with odin. see my sig.

Yeah, well, we think like this: Odin is not supported by Google (neither by Samsung), fastboot is. What people don't want is to admit that they're lazy.

Just got my Nexus and have questions

So, has the title says.
Questions:
- Google Now (the thing like Siri ) is on portuguese (because that's where I live) but I wanted it to have those cards in english like when you ask "What's the weather today?" and it will show you right there the answer on a card. On my device, it just does a Google search (I changed the language on Google Now to english but still doesn't work).
- I did a benchmark with Antutu and I got some weird info here. The system info tab says that my resolution is 720x1184, shouldn't it be 720x1280 or is it relative or anything. Also my score is 7982. Isn't that above normal on a Galaxy Nexus? :silly:
- I got the update to 4.1.1 but not to 4.2 (OTA). Can anybody explain me why?
- Is the XDA case for the Nexus good??? (nah, just kidding , but I iwll buy it )
Thanks for reading,
mfsr98
The Navbar is the missing pixels for the resolution.
Your device isn't a Google supported nexus build. You'll have to follow one of the Takju/Yakju guides.
Oh, but the default nexus benchmark has the full resolution...

Please tell how I can know what is my type and why it isnt a supported build so I can learn
Also please answer my first question if you can.

open google maps and go to settings > about
under device if it says anything except yakju or takju, you will not be on the current OS version.
It says yakjuxw... now can you try to explain if I will get updates or not and why? I know I'm being persistent but I just want to make sure of things

you will get updates eventually... but they are through samsung, not google.
if you want updates directly from google, you need to flash the factory yakju or takju images, there are several guides on this.

same story (being friendly here!), different day:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895 - convert to yakju/takju, restore stock.

useful: ro.product.model in /system/build.prop.
next time, use the search function or browse the forums/threads FOR REAL, before posting another thread with questions already answered. come on people, this device already has more than one year, do you really think there's that big of a chance of a new user finding a NEW issue?
*jeez*
You are right... I didn't and I know I had too
I was still descovering my phone (first native android phone, and also the first phone to have android 4.x on my house...)
Thank for your answers, you guys have been all very helpful
Also I guess having updates from Samsung will be more stable, right?
Now a bit off-topic (if you don't mind) tell me what ROM you use (not saying advantages, disaventages or anything, just say it)

[Q] How to flash stock 4.2.2 on VZW Gnex

This might seem like an odd request. I searched google and xda with no luck so I apologize if this is covered somewhere already. A point in the right direction is appreciated.
I got my gnex used on ebay right before 4.2.2 got pushed. I got the update and everything is working well, except for a few hiccups. I would like to flash the stock 4.2.2 image without unlocking the boot loader, or rooting if possible, but I am certainly not opposed to it. What is the best way?

by definition you cannot flash things without unlocking your bootloader. Unlocking will factory reset your phone, so be sure.

Use the GNex toolkit. If the one in the stick doesn't yet for 4.2.2, make a donation to the developer and get a key to update it easily. Apply the update and you can do what you want.

Download Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.3 from http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/ and follow the steps.
It is by far the easiest method to root/flash Nexus 4.

You do not need to Donate to use the GNex toolkit, It just adds an auto update function. I don't consider the unlock/root/flash scripts to be lazy, just convenient. With a kid in the house and another on the way I don't have much time to sit at a computer and hack away at my phone. If I need something done and it can be done with a few clicks, that's great, as long as you understand whats being done and how it works. I haven't used adb much since I moved from my OG droid, but I do know how to use it.

Don't pay any attention to the trolls. They are an extremely poor representation of what the community at large is about. You have successfully unlocked your bootloader which is the first major step to gaining root access. Are you using the GSM or CDMA version? Try to follow the steps outlined in this guide if you are using Verizon: http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...gs-root-guide-more-updating-03-28-2013-a.html Shouldn't be too hard if you can follow some pretty easy instructions. It would also be worth your while to read through some of the documentation at the top of the post as it will better explain root as a whole. Feel free to message me if you have any issues.

Why does it matter? I answered his question. You did not. Perhaps next time you could link to your preference of walkthrough and answer the guys question instead of making fun of him. Good day.
Edit: Just went back and read that you actually didn't make fun of the guy, it was the others. Still, this whole thread could have been 2 posts had one of y'all just linked him a walkthrough. Its really not that hard.

[Q] Update to 4.3

Hello there. I am new user of galaxy nexus, I got android 4.2.1 . and I got heavy lags, I think this is TRIM problem, and I saw 4.3 solved this problem. But my phone won't update. Always says that system is up to date (Clearing data in Google services framework won't help). So I can't find exactly way to update my phone. And another question why there is no factory image for 4.2.1 even if I using it? Maybe that's a bug that I updated to 4.2.1 and the reason why I can't update to 4.3.
Maybe your build is yakjuxw.

If I will install takju replace yakjuwx, will my phone work properly, and will it work with Ukrainian GSM carriers?
Why wouldn't it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I thought takju were designed for USA, and will not work out-USA. On your opinion is it fine to install it instead yakjuwx?
Have you read the threads regarding the conversion?
The only difference is the inclusion of Google wallet. Nothing about it would cause it not to work outside the US.
If takju didn't work outside the US, there wouldn't be so many people using it or recommending it. Just go do your own research. The answers are out there for you to read.

Sorry for annoying
Its a hard phone to kill. You can always reload stock and relock the boot loader. People worry too much about this. When you have a nexus you shouldn't worry so much about modifying it.
