Let's see. You are on Verizon. With a S4. This is the AT&T S3 forum. Yep, I would say wrong area.
Try asking in this forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2258
But general guess would be no.

No i'm giving him my old Verizon Galaxy S3 to be used on AT&T

Your Verizon or Sprint S3 can be unlocked and flashed to work with another CDMA carrier such as Cricket/boost/Metro etc.
AT&T and T-mobile use sim cards and can be unlocked to switch between GSM carriers. So unless I am mistaken, it is not possible to use a Verizon s3 on AT&T.

you have CDMA version; friend is GSM. will not work on this device. Most of the world is GSM; i travel a lot so i always use GSM carrier in USA. There are no CDMA carriers in France, Greece, Italy, (im Greek and have friends/family/work in Southern Europe) UK (i think Ireland proper has CDMA carrier) and only one in Belarus, one in Ukraine and two in Russia (GF is from that area) so we stick with GSM from carriers in USA now (used to buy intl models when WinMo5/6 was popular).

technically, i believe the verizon s3 takes a sim card for LTE....... but even with that said, a verizon s3 isn't going to work on ATT because of it having a cdma radio instead of a gsm.

[Q] Can I use my AT&T SGS3 When I visit China/Hong Kong?

I have a US sgs3: SGH-I747 that was bought/used on AT&T.
I want to be able to drop in a new SIM when I go to china and Hong Kong, and use the Voice/Data Networks over there. Is there a way to do this? Must I root the device?

#1. Wrong forum. You're looking for the AT&T Galaxy S III SGH-I747 forum.
#2. No. Your phone has a receiver/antenna which can only send.receive AT&T signals. Sorry, man.
Edit: Reported it to a mod, she/he will move it shortly.

Lol there's no such thing as "ATT signals", there's just certain frequencies. And as long as your phone support the frequencies that the Hong-Kong carrier uses, it'll work. check the specifications

Lol. Sorry for writing it n00b friendly.
I have a compete datasheet for it.
But AT&T has specific signal strengths and lengths that are specific to that carrier. And that is because they don't want 'their' phones to be used on other networks. It's the same with Verizon and Sprint...

[Q] Can I use the AT&T I747 on Verizon Network

Hey guys, I have a very simple noob questions, please don't flame me. I did try to search and I looked through faq's.
Can I use an AT&T I747 S3 on the Verizon CDMA Network? Will LTE work, only EDGE, any data? I would assume if so, it would requiring rooting. Any advice you could provide with be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for you time!
As far as I know, GSM phones will not work on any CDMA network at all.
Try to trade your phone for a Gsm version on CL.

I was under the assumption that this model had a cdma radio along with the gsm. Is this not accurate?
Verizon = no sim card = most likely no
no... cdma and gsm are completely different technology

I have an AT&T phone, so it has a GSM radio and micro SIM card slot in it already.
The VZW S3 can and has been used as world phone. It has both GSM and CDMA radios in it. I was hoping that this was the case with this phone as well. I am thinking now that they may only share the LTE 700 MHz Class for 4G.

slightly incorrect.
Verizon 3G = no SIM card
Verizon LTE = yes SIM card
and to answer your question, no.
i moved from Verizon to AT&T, and i had the Verizon Galaxy Nexus at the time. even tho it took a SIM card for LTE, i could not use it on AT&T for their LTE. i also asked Verizon at the time if i had the GSM Galaxy Nexus, if i could use it on Verizon, and they told me 'no'.

The only carriers that in know of that use CDMA worldwide are Verizon and Sprint. That being said, in order for Verizon's phone to work outside of the US it has to have GSM radios. Since AT&T phones already run on GSM, there would be no need for a new set of radios to go abroad. If I am not mistaken, CDMA is patented so you can count on it not being on any phone not from either Verizon, Sprint, or a smaller pre-paid service that runs off of their towers.

Sim Unlocked TMO S4 - Frequencies Question

I have a T-Mo Galaxy S4 that was SIM unlocked through unlockerDotnet.
I've heard that the T-Mo S4 is better than AT&T for a variety of reasons, but more importantly that it picks up all of T-Mobiles HSPA+ along with AT&T's network. So in theory, having it sim unlocked, I could fully utilize t-mobile's service and at&t's service to their full potential. Can anyone confirm this?
Reason I ask was I was speaking with a TMO rep once and he said the international unlocked version wouldn't pick up on the full spectrum of TMO frequencies, but it should be fine with AT&T. Ideally I want to get into a situation where I have the option to jump between the two through their full spectrum, or any mvno's that use their towers as well.
Thanks for the clarification!
Details and specifics appreciated!
You can enable tmo AWS bands on AT&T S4. 2 phones are the same, basically the tmo version has the extra bands enable out of the box.

Thanks for the heads up :good:
So there wouldn't be any disadvantage to running the sim unlocked TMO S4 on ATT? I'd still pick up on all their 3g/4g/lte frequencies?
Much appreciated my friend
It will work its full potential on AT&T network if that what you want it to do.

I got another reply on a different forum that said
"T-Mobile's phone will work on both AT&T and T-Mobile however im not sure if the 4g LTE will work on AT&T's Network but either way you will only be able to use one or the other at any one time."
So, just to clarify, or rephrase rather, will 4G LTE work on ATT's network with the sim-unlocked TMO S4, or would it be beneficial to go with the ATT S4 and open up the TMO bands?
Sorry to beat the dead horse, just want to try and verify HSPA+ and both Tmo LTE and Att LTE will work with my setup, or if I should switch to ATT or International Unlocked version.
Again, many thanks for clearing this up!

K. Can anyone help me out with that last question that knows LTE tech fairly well? I read a bit about frequencies here and from what I can tell it seems like the LTE frequencies are 1.4MHz, 3MHz, 5MHz, 10MHz, 15MHz, and 20MHz pending which geographic market you are in, but I'm not sure if there's anything else hidden in regards to carriers have specific LTE frequencies, and if so if any that a TMO sim unlocked S4 doesn't have.
In the end, i'm 90% going to be on TMO or a MVNO, but on the slight chance (or if i'm working around the country in a very rural area) I may want to switch to ATT and possibly their new prepaid service they're going to announce. Anyways, thanks again
My unlocked TMO S4 works perfectly on ATT LTE, doing it right now and have been for the last few weeks. That's why I bought it also was to hop between carriers.
While you can get the ATT S4 to work with TMO it's more difficult and not ready to go out of the box. I tried that and ended up just returning the ATT one.

T-mobile just dropped the price of their S4. There's no reason to get the ATT one but in case you get one and want an easy way to unlock the extra bands, follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2324667

ATT Galaxy S3 for Telcel in Mexico

My girlfriends sister just bought the galaxy s3 from ATT for full price. She is planning on using it in Mexico using Telcel. They had a few questions that they wanted me to ask you guys. With the ATT version, would 4g LTE be enables for Telcel since ATT owns Telcel? Since they biught the phone for full price, is it still locked with ATT? And last, will multiwindow and all that multitasking work for it? I checked the phone and it is currently running Android 4.1.1. Once they have Telcel on it, would it be able to be upgraded to 4.1.2?
Thanks

A lot of questions lol
My experience: i bought a the same phone for my father, i think is LTE capable for Telcel because the frequencies but he is not getting LTE, i show him how to flash the modems/radios so he is testing now. Even if you paid full price for the phone is locked to ATT, call ATT and ask for the unlock key, i did the same for 3 different gs3, sometimes they refused, just dial again and speak with another representative. You can not upgrade to 4.1.2 because ATT has not that android version yet, but you can upgrade it using a custom rom.

[Q] Sprint S3 unlocked for T-Mobile? (US) Doable?

After researching this for hours on Google and YouTube, I can only find spotty information about whether or not a Sprint Galaxy S3 can be unlocked for use with T-Mobile. (Certainly no tutorials.) Does anyone know?
My 2 main questions are:
1 -- They say you can unlock a Sprint S3 for any CDMA carrier, but how do you get your SIM information onto the phone, seeing as there's no SIM card slot?
2 -- The phone supports Sprint's LTE. Will T-Mobile's LTE work?

You've nearly answered your own question.
CDMA is technology used by Sprint and Verizon, which does not involve a SIM card.
GSM is the technology, used by T-Mobile and AT&T, that employs SIM cards.
CDMA phones will not work on GSM networks.
