[Q] BAD IMEI/ESN Note 2 for tmobile - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I just accidentally bought a note 2 for t-mobile on CL, is there any way that I can unlock it or flash to make it work again on t-mobile?

I kind of found a way around if its brand new with the box and all but I will say is this if they called and reported it lost or stolen with Asurion they don't take fraud to likely I was lucky and the dummy used his real number to do business and also contacted from his girlfriends phone so I had a lot of info that helped me with tmobile and Asurion to look at my case buy it would include turning the phone over to my local police department for 30 days and getting ownership of the phone and then going back to T-Mobile corporate and see if they will do but I ended up coming up with a back up plan that I will pm you about when I get off work I don't want to burn myself before the method work

But I did shut down the v p on a phone conversation when I said there system is set up for people to only buy from T-Mobile but there is nothing in play of a T-Mobile customer does the scamming unlike Verizon where they have to release a phone to be sold ..... and last T-Mobile didn't care that I wanted to return the phone they told me I might as well just keep it

I think op meant that he did not see the disclaimer that the imei is bad.
Some sellers try to hide this fact with in small print. And list AS IS. So buyer can not return or claim it as bad product.

I can guess the OP didnt mean accidentally.
The company i work for sells smart phones on Amazon and i have had 2 people in the past 4 months write to me to tel me they accidentally purchased the product and didnt mean to. Either the term accidentally means something else or a very strange set of circumstances happened.
Last week i dealt with a guy who wanted an immediate refund because the purchase was fraudulent. I told him as soon as we get the item back we will refund it. 3 days later he picks it up at the post office and he now is asking me questions about different GSM carriers. LOL yeah fraudulent my ass. Im getting off track. sorry guys and gals..
Im actually not typing this either. It accidentally typed its self. LOL
On the bright side, the device can still be used as a PDA utilizing WiFi, and if all else fails, it can be sold for parts. Note 2 screens are very expensive.

Before you can buy the phone called up tmobile ask tmobile agent to have the orginal owner give up full responsibilty to the new owner and that why he or she cannot filed a claim.

The best thing is to not Buy a phone from Craig s list. Unless its local and you can go to the T Mobile corp store . Have the seller while you are there to get them to look up his account and be sure he has full filled his contract on the phone. And then as you say above get him to have them to Note his account that he sold Said phone to you...
This i think is the only way to protect you in the future. I bought mine off ebay and I got account information from the seller about there account.. Called T-mobile and i was told the phone was purchased outright and was not under and has not ever been under a contract..
These things are expensive Take a few extra steps and protect your investment before you buy

When I sell/buy phones on craigslist I always do it at the carrier. People trying to burn you wont go cause they know you want to chsnge ownership right then. Ive never had a problem doing it this way and most tmobile reps at least around here dont care at all

that doesn't work. last time i talked to a T-mo rep i asked her if i could report my old G2 stolen that has been paid off and on another person's account for over a year and she said yes.
Until T-mo has an official way to transfer complete ownership of the phone, not just notes on my account I won't be buying any additional used phones. too much risk.

at&t defective unit exchange policies

I work at sprint as a service and repair technician, so I know how sprints advance exchanging works ;p if it comes down to needing an exchange, how does the process work for at&t? I pay for the 10$ insurance, does this cover exchanges through at&t past the 1 year warranty, or does this cover strictly physical damage/lost or stolen Situations?
I've been with att since 2006 and every time i have a defective issue I get it replaced through a device support center at no charge that first year unless its physically damaged, tampered, and or water damaged.
If past the warranty period the insurance covers it all really
Hope this helps

Yes thats how it always worked in my experience. The only way they will exchange it in store is if you bring it back to the same store you bought it from within 30 days.
Device support centers are not stores, they exist to do warranty replacements.

One item to note, in most cases, the replacement phone WILL be a refurbished replacement.
You can also do it over the phone as well and I know there are some city's where they do not have dsc and they do the replacements in the store as well

So T-mobile block my phone. Help.

I bought my phone on Craight list and it turn out it was not paid in full so t-mobile block my IMEI number, paid 500$ for it too. My question is if I unlock my phone using code can I by pass the block from T-mobile ? if I can't , can I at least use it for ATT ?
You can unlock it and use on at&t but unlocking won't let you use it on tmobile tho. Sorry to hear that man I hate when our customers get ripped off like that unfortunately there is no way to unblock it unless you has legitimate proof of full purchase.

Tmobile won't but he can use a third party to get the unlock code careful with info you give to others no need for op to waste his phone he can still get use out of it if he switches.

FYI for all buying phones from a classified ad.
About 6 months ago before I got my SGS3 I went to buy a SGS2 form KSL.com a classified site here in Utah. When I met the seller in a 7-11 parking lot I told him I was going to call customer care to check and see if the phone was stolen. When I called customer care they looked up the IMEI number, it turned out that the phone was blocked and reported stolen, customer care tried to get me to hold onto the phone and give some detail about the seller that's when the he guy grabbed it off the hood of my car and ran. I found a second phone from the classified ad site and called on it before I purchased and the phone was clear and free to use.
Its just more or less you always have to be weary of dishonest people. It really makes me sick. I just sold my sgs2 on craiglists, and I always try to do good business. I contacted everyone from the phone I was selling so they could see, this was actually MY phone before upgrading. Let him put his sim in, hell, he even could have called customer care if he wanted. Its never good business to try and get over on someone. Karma is a B****!

I thought networks use a "shared hosting service", so when an IMEI is blocked on one network, that info is shared thus blocking it on others.
I don't think it works even with att. The blocked imei database is stored by all the networks providrtd

The problem is... the can report it stolen/lost AFTER selling it to you... so checkiny with customer care doesn't matter. they have something crazy like 60 days after someone else starts using it to report it stolen or lost. So you csn buy a free and clear phone and then 2 months later it will be blocked. The ONLY way to protect yourself is a bill of sale... typed up with the imei number of the phone and everything on the paper.. and signed by the previous owner.. this will prove purchase and save you

Do the exchange at a T-Mobile store, and have the phone ownership be changed to you on the spot.
Failing that. Get the receipt.

Doing it at a T-Mobile store won't stop the phone from being reported stolen. All the person has to do is call customer support after they leave the store and claim stolen.

The receipt doesn't matter either. If you buy it from someone and they don't pay their bill or report it stolen it doesn't matter if you have the receipt or not or did it at the store or not.
If the person you bought it from can't pay their bill for the phone or service why would T-Mobile let someone else use the phone?

Unless you know the person, yes. Ebay wouldn't be a bad idea because of buyer protection but I wouldn't buy one off of CL unless you can prove the phone has been paid for, but even then the person can just call in and report it stolen.

They won't unblacklist an IMEI. Once it's blacklisted you're screwed unfortunately.
That's unfortunate.
As I hope I don't get on the same boat you're in, I too purchased a Galaxy S3 off Craigslist, so far everything's fine.
I've spoke to a T-Mobile rep and the IMEI seems clean, they've added a note on the date I purchased it and was transferred to my account.
I'm still scared what happened to you can still happen to me.
OP, to be honest, your idea sounds like it'd work, although it's on you and you have to know it's not the "right" thing to do.
Just unlock it someone using att or straight talk with att sim, save difference.and buy a new one u dont have to worry about being blacklisted,

What don't I understand about this?
The owner stopped paying his bill?
He was paying your cell bill while you use the phone?
I don't get it.
How many times is this gonna happen. first of all 350 is pretty cheap to sell a phone like this so u should beware of potential fraud. This is why I never buy anything on craigslist there is no protection whatsoever and tmobile needs to take more responsibility and drop customers who do stuff like this

The original owner bought the phone on contract and stretched the payment for 20 months, he sold the phone to OP, the original owner stopped paying his phone bill, T-Mobile blacklisted the phone.
So the original owner probably bought the phone from Wallmart for $200 without needing to go the rebate route, just extending their contract and then turned around and sold the phone for $350 making a quick $150 profit on a legitimately $650 phone. Lame ass fraud there to begin with if you ask me.
Basically you can change the IMEI but the legality of that is unsound or you can just go with another carrier like ATT or whoever else uses sim cards in their phones.

How did you guys manage to get one off contract? I showed up early this morning and was the first into one store and they would no sell me one without signing a new contract. I even called customer service who called the store to clarify and told me it was up to the manager to decide whether or not they would sell it to me without contract because they are in limited supply. I called another store thinking maybe it was just that one at&t store and I was told the exact same thing by the other store. It's driving me crazy because I was ready to fork over $650 + for this phone. Customer support wouldnt even let me order over the phone because they claim that the phone isn't even in their system yet. Very disappointing day so far...

I had an account already but I just told the guy I was paying the no commitment price and he didnt question it. Rang me up in about 3 or 4 minutes and I was done. I have no idea why they wouldnt sell it to you off contract. My best friend has simple mobile and he went in t mobile to buy his and they let him get his too with no problem.

I literally walked in and said I was buying for the off contract price and that was it, guy rang me up and gave me my phone. My brother works for bestbuy mobile and he said that sometimes stores will do that to maximize sales because thats how they will make there money, off the contract instead of the phone. So if you were off contract i can see why they would be pricks about it.

Man this sucks for me. I am still under contract but the guy didn't even ask. I have called about 10 stores and the story has been the same except for one guy who offered to sell me one for $750 cash only!! I laughed in his face before I hung up that phone. I have a business account and I finally got off the phone with someone who was willing to help me order it, but get this, they charge businesses $100 more for the no contract price...$650 vs $750. That is so close to Best Buy's price of $800 that I stop from ordering it. I will speak with my company's account rep next week but this is really shady business even from At&t. Without my grandfathered unlimited plan I would be walking out the door at this point.

Yeah, you got that right. South Florida = Scumbag Land. This is the shady dealings I have had with a major company in a while. There shouldnt be this big of an issue buying off contract. It clearly lets you do it on the website, although when I tried that it makes me set up a new line of service or I have to act like a new customer. I even thought about buying it as a new customer and then canceling the line, etc. but that it just way to much work for a cell phone. Why they can't just shut up and take my money....I'll never know!

Hey Note2 owners (and soon to be owners),
I tried all afternoon on launch day to pick up one at non-commitment price, but all the AT&T stores here in Los Angeles area wouldn't let me as they were in "limited stock" and reserved for new or upgrade accounts. I even called a friend who knew a manager but he said the same thing. The only way was to order it online as it ships from warehouse.
I do have an issue though and I was wondering if anyone else is in the same shoes as I am.
I placed an order online that same afternoon, but ever since and until now it still shows "Status: Attention" on my order status page. I did call AT&T Premier to make sure, and the rep told me that it's still being processed and take anywhere from 24-48 hrs to finish processing the order, considering that the weekend was non-business days.
Is anyone else who ordered online on launch day still show that status? I've been stuck on my old flip RAZR phone for a month now since my issue with my S3 being fraudulently reported stolen (a story I might like to tell someday).
Just wondering if it's just bad luck with me or something. I just want my Note 2 and carrying this RAZR is kinda embarrassing lol
Thanks guys for any input.

My online (pre-)order status went from "Pending" or "Processing" to "Shipped". I never saw an "Attention" status, and I believe others here who did said it indicated that there was a problem that was holding up the order. Probably good to check with them again.

Why not order it online? That seems to have worked smoothly for most people. I did that (for the full no-contract $650) and kept my grandfathered unlimited data plan (although initially AT&T changed it to a 3GB plan, and I had to call and have the unlimited plan restored).
