Jellybean Rom features on this old device - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tested out many gingerbread ROMs and recently tried MazWoz JB 4.2.1 B4. It worked well except it had camcorder/camera issues with preview, errors when ending calls, and no bluetooth. The bluetooth caused me to switch back to gingerbread. For those of you that have tested the various jellybean Roms, have you found one that runs smooth with most features working? I don't care about FFC or 4G features.
Thanks.

Try this one i use quick snap camera not as much lag i don't use blue tooth so can't commit on that i haven't had any GPS issues so no need for GPS fix also a2sd fine. There are some others i just haven't tried but reading threads sounds as if they are OK to

The biggest difference is that CM6 runs Froyo and CM7 runs Gingerbread.
http://www.androidtapp.com/whats-new-in-gingerbread-android-2-3/
Pretty much all of this applies, except for the NFC thing. That is a hardware thing specific to the Nexus S. I'm not sure if the internet calling thing works, but the option is there in CM7.
As for differences in terms of bugs, CM7 seems a bit more stable in terms of battery consumption and "Android System" wake locks (though I might jinks myself for saying that). Also, there's a bit of a GPS bug in CM7. For GPS to work properly you might need to punch ##GPSCLRX# into the phone on a Sense-based rom. Doing that will clear the data on the GPS chip and somehow make the GPS work in CM7.
Other than that, it's pretty much the same. Most apps work just fine in gingerbread. CM7 has added a few features. There's support for themes, for one. Also, you can have an unlimited number of notification bar widgets now, since you can now scroll the widgets.
Just from personal experience, CM7 was much buggier than CM6... I had all sorts of FC'S and stuff, plus there's no GPS on CM7 and I use that a lot....
But there's also the possibility that my problems were a combination of the kernel/ROM/whatever since I didn't try different configs on CM7...
they're definitely both worth tryin... And CM7 had some really cool features.. It just wasn't worth it to me to stick with it

The biggest thing is that CM6 is Froyo [2.2] and CM7 is Gingerbread [2.3]. CM7 has a lot of new features [one people like is the tv off screen off animation] The keyboard is a lot nicer. Though CM7 is still in the nightly phase, without WiMax [4G] though you can install the rom for CM7 with WiMax [found in the development section], while CM6 is stable.

There is a fix for the gps issue. You flash a sense rom open dialer run ##gpsclrx# it resets your phone after resetting restore your cm7 rom and you have fully functioning gps. As for the FC's I've had no more problems there. Sure some apps may not have been updated with Gingerbread in mind but that's the apps problem usually not the rom.

Yes, I did the GPS fix and mine is working fine. Also, I haven't had a single FC yet on CM7 w/wimax.

My GPS works fine on all the CM7 nightlies and CM7 with WiMax [build 24].

You realize that CM7 is in Nightly-only stage, right? There's not even a release candidate? It doesn't even qualify as Beta software (though is a bit past Alpha). If you're getting FCs in an RC or Stable, then you have just cause to complain.

[Q] Looking for stable Navigation

I've been trying dozens of AOSP ROMs over the past few months, and every single one causes my phone to reboot after about 5-10 minutes of GPS navigation via Google Maps.
So I'm thinking I need to switch back to a Sense ROM (as much as I hate Sense.)
I'd like to get some feedback as to which ROM is the most stable, with the least amount of "Sense bloat". I don't really need or want any HTC Sense apps, but the most important thing for me is STABILITY. I need navigation to work!
THanks for any input
Were you using custom kernels?

In my opinion AOSP had had better gps results with my phone. However there is a fix by Galandy that is the actual updated gps driver from Qualcomm. Search for evo gps fixes and you will see it.

I tried both stock Cm7 and custom kernels, made no difference.
I'm on Jamieg's KWIQ NONSENSE now and it seems solid... But have to wait a week or so to be sure...

ROM recommendations!?

Hello all. It has been months since I've participated in these forums and I've been on this gingersnap ROM this whole time and I wanted to move to a different ROM. I need something that has fully functional camera, GPS and mostly everything. Any suggestions? Also I've been having battery drain issues even with freezing apps, turning brightness low and just idling.

Okay, I see search from the app isn't as bad as it used to be. Still having trouble choosing a ROM. I loved cm on my EVO but the GPS being spotty just made everything horrible.

there's a lot of ROMs out there for the T989. You can watch the video reviews on galaxys2root.com , but otherwise, there's just a lot of flavors.
It basically breaks down into some of the primary features. I need WiFi calling, so I can't use AOKP or CM9. I would go for AOKP any day if I didn't need WiFi calling. Coming from Juggernaut 2.3.6 ROM, I miss all the "ROM control" features.
From what I hear, CM9 is the way to go if you don't care about WiFi calling. Otherwise, You have Jedi Mind Trick, Clone Drones, Darkside, Infamous... I think are the most popular.
Just backup everything, and try one ROM a day to see what you like. Any of the new ICS ones have fairly good battery life. In addition, your GPS issue, flash the aGPS patch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563226 (it made my GPS usable again!)
You don't even need to flash that patch for gps. Just flash a modded radio.

Bluetooth problems on Jb.

Every ROM I install seems to have a problem playing BT audio to lg tone + headsey . is BT audio a constant problem on most jb ROMs or just hit and miss kind of thing?? :what:
When i try to play music through the headset the phone freezes or cuts out and reboots.

Depends on the BT device and which ROM you are running. I have had no issues with my Jabra on GB08.

Right now I'm running Slim Bean. But any of the custom ROMs based off of GB08 will be the same as the original GB08 leak.

The things is my headset works fine on ics roms but once I hit jb it always seems to crash so I have tried from the jb roms due to that since I really use my headset alot for work.
I have the same issue with my Tone+ headset. Works great on ICS but I am lucky to get them to work for a couple minutes before lockup and the entire phone crashes on JB. I just tried the official release GB27 and the problem is still there.
Ah so the problem is still present in the official. That kinda stinks

Jellybean with gps?

Hi all.
I've tried a few Jellybean roms (Jellytime, Pacman & more) & I love the speed & features but I can't live without GPS. Are there any jb roms out there with GPS working in the UK please? Flashing the radio is not an option I would consider & I've tried the faster GPS fix, various apps & also editing the gps.conf file. Help appreciated & yes I have used search.

Desire HD or Inspire 4G? (I doubt it's the I4G but its still worth asking)
Most JB ROM's have 'issues' with GPS lock. If you 100% need GPS, but wanna stay somewhat up to date, I'd recommend IceColdSandwich.
I am using JellyTime R29 never had any rom-related GPS issues. I did have a hardware related GPS issue. Are you sure it's the rom causing the GPS issues?
(see my sig for GPS hardware fix)
Its definitely not hardware. If I flash a sense based rom like viper or sabsa prime it works no problem but as soon as I try jellybean I lose all gps. Its the only thing that stops me using jellytime as my daily.
