A lot of people have been recently saying that flashing jelly bean directly over gingerbread without re partition, that it with 550mb ram, is more stable and smooth than re partitioning using the PIT file, that is 624mb RAM. So many people have been asking this question. So lets discuss that issue here.
This thread had no sense, there will war between people who think that 624mb is better and vice versa.
Try it yourself.
for me 550mb is much better, but don't tell this to anyone
it dependz of the kernel.

Mayby on 550mb is no ,,memory managment bug" if yes, xxmc8 for UK and Portugal are softs without bugs...(550mb)
I flashed TMN XXMC8 directly over GB XXLL2 (no repart) and AFAIR i only had 462MB of RAM...
Anyone?

Me. I have 482 mb.

Im no expert but only tried stock kernel. And having 2 ace 2. 550mb ram is kinda same as 624ram. Im serious. Both fresh installs and played some games and a couple of internet videos. I dont get lags that much on both. 550 still has bad ram mgt imo.
Sent from my GT-I8160 using xda app-developers app
I also found that having 482mb RAM caused no I'll effects for me either.
All my favourite games ran fine too, big ones like GTA: Vice City and Ravensword 2 work the same as when I have the normal 600 and whatever MB RAM.
Bit of a head-scratcher, this one.
If you have a GT-I8160 (Ace 2) no P/L you have to flash XXMB4 first than XXMC8 for 624 ram...
Sent from my GT-I8160 using xda app-developers app
i have 482 mb ram if i update from GB up JB with file pit. I have been very lag, not smooth and faster. Lose far gb, play game is very lag!
Now, i update from JB leak, i have 624 mb RAM and very smooth, faster and better, i can have 629 mb ram if i using D-kernel v2 but i don't like it because it very drain battery and not update to fix some bugs!
Now i using Kyrillos v7b + Bluehead(include version 1.0 1.1.4 and 1.2) + Superchanger V6, it made my device benhmark with Antutu i have 5,3k-5,6k but my phone is faster, stable and not lag, ram alway from 300 to 450 mb.
Then i will try CyanogenMod 10 from Sakuraroid Team Project if release version BT_00 not have bugs in camera, wifi, sdcard and GPS and easy with safe to install.
P/S: i thinks version BT_00 can have some any bugs!
EDIT: I thinks 624 mb ram is better
I have 624 mb the ram (kyrillos v7b + kernel MC8 and the battery hard 2 days) i think 482/550/624 mb of ram not regardless, the important is how it manages the ram the rom.
So, what should I do if I want have 550MB RAM in JB from stock Gingerbread?
I'm new here, please guide me, thanks in advance
Are you using XXMC8?
Sent from my GT-I8160 using xda app-developers app
I have 628 MB... CM10+D-Kernel (v3 test)
So UK JB has 550 RAM directly from GB?
Sent from my GT-I8160 using xda app-developers app
i already tried both of them, i think the 550 MB RAM is faster, just my opinion.

not really...
we are askking to post here so we can compare data on the kernels and get best results..
and as far i can understand...android development...benchmarking is part of development...it gauges results of developed roms,kernels,tweaks...
and dictates somehow if it was sucessful or not...
but if mod sees that its not fit here then he would move it right?

current phone specs:
rooted r800i on stock 2.3.4 build .42
Been trying to run NOVA 3 since forever
I just get stuck on the loading screen then it brings me back to the xplay interface
I want to stay on stock rom (I guess until a fully functional ICS rom comes to light =p) unless there is a rom out there that really does the job for gaming. Or a workaround for a stock rom could help as well.
Anyhows the roms I've tried are icecream pureness on doom's v3 kernel and unofficial stock ICSv4 on doom's v3, and lupus linaro. Unfortunately these roms "doesn't like to play games that much"
Thanks in advance guys!
Have you tried using RAM manager? If not, then auto memory manager which lets you set your min frees?
The game works fine for me on Gin2JB

Have you moved the games to the sd card? If yes just move it to the internal memory

If you are on unlock bootloader (so i presume with a custom kernel too) why dont u overclock already?

Yeah, I'm gonna do that now.
Will now go back to stock ICS w/ doomV3 temporarily because of the new Adreno drivers.
I just hope It doesn't mess up my other games when I do a data restore on Titanium backup
Thanks again guys! I'll report back if something happens! :good:

Hi,
I hawe rooted my Play and want to install a custom NXT ROM. My question is : Is it better to go for the Light or regular version?
I'm using my phone mostly for gaming.
Thanks
I would recommend you try gin2jellybean it is super fast and stable and I got a geekbench score faster than a iphone 4s but regular version on nxt is better

Hey there,
I should give Xelite gamer a try
That ROM is absolutely great for gaming!
But maybe you should wait for the 1.3 update, cause that fixes and improves a lot of stuff!
Als thank you @Pizza_Dox for that ROM, its amazing

Could someone explain to me why and in which aspect the baseband underlying a custom ROM is important?
I can understand it in that way, that the stock ROMs have had different RAM sizes and therefore the size for the custom ROM would be different, but beside that?
After a certain version AFAIR they all had 624 MB RAM.
So why is there e.g. a recommendation of MH1 (or is it already MH2) for CM 10.1 Canjica?

i guess some of dev use certain baseband when they build that custum ROM, if we use the same basebabd that the dev use, we know that custumROM will work at least like what dev expect CMIIW
I guess its cuz for new firmwares u need new basebands. Newer basebands are better too, cuz they have more 3G/2G speed so... why do u want an old baseband if its worse? As an Ascend G300 I gotta say that there's a small chance doing a multibaseband ROM. But, as I said, the last baseband is the best.
Hope it helped u guyz
Easy answer:
For a new base band I would have to flash a new stock firmware and therefore would probably loose all apps and settings...
But you are hopefully right in that point... that the newer the better...
So next time I flash my ROM, I will use mh1 as a base.

I recently flashed 10.2 cm on my sr lte variant, and i have a question. Why is the ram listed as 1.3GB instead of 1.5GB ? Under settings.
With stock rom, the info said 1.5GB
Sent from my GT-I9195 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The stock rom ML4 say that we have 1.31gb of ram
Because some memory is reserved for the system. Perfectly normal.
