Hi everyone,
I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction on an issue I am experiencing with my G2.
I am not new to flashing roms, etc, but I ran into an issue upgrading my radio to the latest T-mobile version (.30). I followed the instructions correctly and it updated through HBOOT and I restarted the phone. All was fine, I was connected to WiFi, T-mobile's network, and GPS locked on nice and quick. This morning, the Jelly Bean rom I had just installed last night (and tested the new radio with) froze on a black screen. I pulled the battery out and restarted and was unable to connect to the Tmobile network. It says: No Sim Card - No Service.
I've searched and tried everything I could find in the forums with no success. I tried an EFS wipe, reinstall of the rom after a clean wipe, reverting to the old radio version I had, restoring my previous Jelly Bean rom that worked fine with the old radio, and nothing seems to work.
I finally registered here and hope someone can assist me with getting my phone working again.
Thanks!
It sounds like either hardware or firmware, its possible your simcard slot randomly went bad. But before you go and replace it I would do a full partition. Boot to hboot and write down everything on that screen

Ok, I wrote everything down from system info. Is that what you meant? I am not to familiar with HBOOT besides when I S-Off'ed my device.
Thanks for the reply!
I meant write down everything here, need to confirm stuff so I don't give you bad advice.
No matter, so long as you achieved soff via gfree follow this link

Reading more of the post I am thinking I do not have true s-off because of my current CID info. Guess I will try that first!
Thanks again!
What method did you use to root and gain soff? If you used gfree then I would use your eng bootloader to change cid
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
fastboot reboot-bootloader
And then I would flash one of those pc10img.zips I linked you to (post 30)
If you didn't use gfree then unroot and son, then follow the xda wiki to root properly
These steps should fix your problem if its software/firmware
And if it won't fix almost for sure hardware

I am pretty sure I followed this method back in 2010. My phone has been s-off and rooted ever since. Am I not truly s-off? I am a bit confused!

Sorry, had to wait 5 minutes to edit the post!
Well I'm questioning if you are being you don't have supercid, this is usually something you would get along with the rooting process. That same post I linked you will tell you how to check, be sure you confirm as you may run into issues otherwise

If I were truly rooted, would I be able to change my CID or not?
Thanks again!
Well rooted is the wrong term, you have an engineering bootloader and so with this you can change cid, but this isn't my concern. There is true radio soff and fake soff, fake soff can cause issues when flashing pc10img.zips,
this is why I would highly recomend checking, like I said the instructions are there. Let me know if you have issues
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
Sooo...I did not unroot, root, and all that jazz again. I felt risky, installed the pc10img from the link you gave and it worked without a hitch...except it did not fix my sim card issue. I finally had another tmobile phone to test with and it was a dead/fried sim card. I had an extra, had it activated and tada! It worked. I am enjoying the new recovery though compared to CWM.
Thanks again for your time and help!
Well I'm glad it all worked! Yeah it seemed like hardware and I'm glad it was the chip vs the phone!

I cant to s-off with gfree. I try also with goldcard, also with no sucess.
Does any have any idea to upgrade to 2.2 and with what?

Would be worth seeing if there's anything worth backing up before losing it !
hboot is "VISION XB MFG

I tried:
1. flash wwe rom (i got error 171 usb error)
2. with goldcard (error wrong version)
3. with pc10img with wwe rom (i got error lack of heap)
4. tried with gfree (i got error module failed...no such file...)
6. tried with fastboot
any other idea? or any rom? or any procedure?

Wow, MFG (Manufacturing ?) hboot, we need to save that ! Though I guess we don't know for sure if it's compatible with shipping phones.
Sounds like you got a prototype Vision, you may not be able to do much but save it lol
I am seriously considering proposing a trade. I would drop to 2.1 if it meant getting a rare item like that. A dev version of the vision? I'd probably frame it though lol.
So i downloaded a new radio, placed it on the sd card root menu, not in any folders, re named it PC10IMG.zip
turned off my phone, held volume down and power, to get into bootloader.....
restarted my phone, still shows the old radio...
what am i missing?
you need to download a special flashable version of the radio... listed in the thread that has all radios in PC19IMG. zip format.... then it should work the way you expect.. it will ask to update and then will say complete when finished.

What happens when you enter the bootloader? Does it just present you with the regulars (e.g., Recovery, Factory Reset, etc.)? Did it show any messages prior to the menu coming up?
Ya it shows it finds the file, does a few steps, quicker then I can read what it says, then it goes back to the main screen with those options...

Hmm... not sure then. Make sure it's not named PC10IMG.zip.zip (sometimes it happens when you rename it a computer and don't have file extensions visible). Also, did you get S-OFF using gfree (and namely, did you also use gfree to get SuperCID)? The CID in the PC10IMG's on the thread are all set to SuperCID by default.
its not named pc10img.zip.zip just pc10img.zip.....
also how do i confirm if i have SuperCID.....
im running a virtuous rom, if that helps

Right, make sure the file doesn't end in zip twice (though since you said it looked like the bootloader found it properly, I doubt this is the issue).
If you ran gfree with the "-f" option when obtaining S-OFF, you have SuperCID. The Wiki also has a verify app you can use, with instructions. How did you get permanent root?
and in the bootloader, it said

I'm not sure if it applies to everyone, but when I was on stock 1.34 rom and tried to flash a 1.72 radio the system didn't update it. But when I updated to virtuous 1.0.1 rom (which is 1.85btw) the same radio worked.. I was actually in the impression that you can flash any radio version but it didn't work for me apparently

Hi all,
After scouring the intertubes for 2 days, I've had to give in and beg for wisdom on this one.
Recently inherited a Desire HD from my wife, factory-reset but loaded with Orange crapware, so I thought I'd crack on and root straight away.
Went for it with the AAHK kit, however it hung at the white screen after restarting, and have had no life out of it ever since. I can still access the HBOOT screen and Bootloader, from which I managed to query the device infor, CID etc, see attached file. HBOOT info is:

I've tried to get the firmware up and running again with various RUU's, with and without the goldcard I've made, and am now at a loss! The RUU will initially look to be working, get some way into the progress bar before returning the error message - 'The ROM Update Utility cannot update your android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.'
As the device can switch on, it's clearly not a brick, just incredibly stuck!
Can anyone help me get this going again, ideally unbranded and rooted?
Thanks in advance!

Ok, the phone is still s-on.
Did you try to run aahk again on the phone?
What system did you use to run aahk on? Maybe try the method with the ubuntu boot cd to rule out any problems with the host computer.
Since the phone is still S-ON you can only install signed images. But the RUU ones should work.
Did you also try to copy the RUU to the SD-Card (adb push "RUU-File" /sdcard/PD98IMG.zip) and boot into hboot?

I presume pushing the RUU to the SD card is the same as copying it and renaming the file? I've literally zero experience of the terminal ocmmands involved.

hi all
sorry im a bit of a noob with things like this, but I tried unlocking a friends htc desire hd to all networks using xtc clip. it went part of the way through and failed. when I rebooted phone, it came up with no sim inserted. so then I tried using a tool called windroid htc desire hd toolkit. I used the "gain s-off method 1" button to do it. that went through and completed fully. but now it still says no sim inserted. I have tried putting tape on the back of the sim to see if that works, but no joy. i have even gone out to buy a new sim card to see if that helps and it still does not recognise it. could this be a radio issue or something else.
current bootloader info is as follows if that helps

as for my current problem. have you any idea if that could be my problem. i know in the guide it says the radio is what gives the phone signal, but i am not sure if that effects the reading of the sim card. sorry if i am asking too much.
thanks
Not a problem. Well, the suggestion to flash a rom is just to find out if that will work. It seems that when you were trying to root it, something happened. If flashing a stable rom doesn't fix it, you can try flashing a ruu. That ought to rule out a few things.

First, was that sim working in that phone before? Even if you unlock the sim it doesn't mean it will work for all the providers.

Just reading this... I kinda had a similar problem. I got the OTA to install, but then lost root and couldn't use Scotty's method to unlock the bootloader...so I had to use the HTC .bin file. That reset the whole phone. And now...for whatever reason, things are all screwed up.
When I boot/reboot, it comes up presumably on the TMO network, but then it tries to switch to Wi-Fi calling... It finally does, but then it says I have no data service (i.e., from the TMO network...Wi-Fi seems to work). Then I went into the "My T-Mobile" app and stupidly agreed to let them collect diagnostics... Besides informing them that my phone is rooted (which I would just prefer they not know), now that app is acting strange...from the log it seems to be trying to run the "diagnostic" but being denied due to inadequate privileges. And when I try and revoke their right to collect diagnostics it tells me to "insert SIM".
I can't tell if it is everything I did, or if there is perhaps something wrong with this latest update... Everything was working beautifully on 2.22.531.5.

Whenever I lose root like that, I run the Sunshine apk and let it do a temp root for me. You can bail out of Sunshine right after it does the temp root. You don't even need to have paid for Sunshine to use this method (of course you need to pay for Sunshine to achieve S-Off).
I have s-off. Can I use temp root to just install the Harmon kardon hack? I'm back to stock recovery.
