You have to flash stock ICS ft and flash official JB ft,or lock boot loader first before flashing JB ftf

I wanna say that you would need an ICS kernel , which you would need to unlock your BL for.. and the system on your phone wont matter, since ICS isn't official on our plays your will need to instal a custom Rom which will overwrite everything anyway
Thanks

But if I am installing an official ics Rom (released by Sony Ericsson) would I have to do that too?

Well I did some reading and I think you will need an unlocked BL and at least be on the .42 firmware, 2.3.4 like you originally posted. I know there are a few ICS roms that work in the developer section. But I think for the official beta release your gonna wanna follow what Sony said.
Edit: looks like you have to fastboot a boot.img and userdata.img and system.img

You'll be able to get ICS without an unlocked bootloader once the official update is released, since the official releases can be made into files for flashtool.
Aside from the fact it'll be done through SEUS.

Debranding the Arc S ?

Hi just wondering if anybody knows how to debrand the 3 UK Xperia Arc S. I have de-branded an Xperia Play before but I cannot find the approriate files for the Arc S. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

First of all, you should ALWAYS post your doubts in the Q&A forum.
To debrand the phones flash with flashtool any generic firmware, here you have 4.0.4 firmware for the ARC S : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583010
Sorry I am new to XDA and thnak you too i appreciate the help
Once installed and debranded.
look for how to root once you got this you can get rid of all the bloatware that is installed.

Yeah I will do but I have read that currently there's now way to root the 4.0.4 update yet for xperia arc s when i had the Play i used one click root.
Yes , you can root 4.0.4.
You have to flash 4.0.4 ftf, after that you have to flash 4.0.3 kernel ( you have to download 4.0.3 ftf and flash just kernel with flashtools).
After you have your arc/arc s with 4.0.4 rom and 4.0.3 kernel , you use the one click method for the 4.0.3.
After you just need to flash 4.0.4 kernel and you have a full 4.0.4 (rom+kernel) rooted

1. Get it from Here
2. Yes, sure.
3. ICS17 is the modified stock kernel added more features than stock one
Hold on.......
If you've flashed the ics17 kernel then you've unlocked the bootloader yes?
Then scrap off any ics rom and flash Jellybean

For rooting ICS 4.0.4 with build number 0.45/0.50
this is the root process:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
But, If the device is in 0.55 build number then u need unlock the bootloader.
Or you can wait for the Jelly Bean upgrade, since it will release within couple of weeks i believe.

[Q] Help installing PAC 23 Custom ROM on Xperia S

Hi,
I am planning to install PAC 23 Custom ROM.
Currently I unlocked my bootload, rooted and installed "CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.3.2 for Xperia S" by Doomlord.
Should I have to install any kernel/recovery to install PAC? Below link in PAC Rom page is not working(
LATEST BOOT.IMG
Just download the rom.It contains the boot.img.If want to move to 4.2 then first flash img by flashtool & then flash rom

Thanks. It worked. Successfully installed PAC custom ROM.
One doubt, how to return back to Stock Jelly bean 4.1.1 from 4.2 Pac custom rom(not now after a week, i am planning to switch if I am not comfortable with PAC Rom).
I have stock ttf LT26i_6.2.B.0.211.1257-8080_LBI for Xperia S. Just normal Flash is enough or any other kernel/recover/boot.img needs to be flashed/installed before returning(downgrade) to Stock JB 4.1.1?
Regards,
Chandru.
