[Q] Bricked Arc s - SEUS/Flashtool/Pc doesn't recognise device - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings.
I have been surfing through and through the internets for the past three days, reading other people's posts with similar problems and still haven't been able to find a solution. I'm probably doing a single detail the wrong way and that's what's keeping me from enjoying my phone.
Background:
Rooted Arc s, Locked Bootloader. I've been using Ultimate HD 2.0.3. for 3 months now and it has started to be a little buggy and it would auto-reboot out of no particular reason. Anyhow, I saw that there's a newer version of the Ultimate HD, so i followed Jared's steps on how to apply the update, hoping that the update would fix my problems.
So, I've downloaded the zip file, placed it on my SDcard, backed up my data.
Rebooted into Clockworkmod recovery. Installed new mod from zipfile - haven't rebooted at the end of installation - went back into CWM, wiped dalvik cache, wiped Cache Partition. Whoa, that was nice and easy, time to reboot. Turned off the phone. Turned on - stuck at SONY logo.
This all seemed to me very fixable. But I can't find a way to get into CWM so that I could just return to one of my backups, nor can I flash a new firmware over the existing. (The LED doesn't blink the signal for CWM).
Out of, lets say, 20 times I've tried connecting my phone to my PC, only 3 times have I gotten the solid green light (And then Flashtool would ask me to re-plug the phone, and then, when I re-plug it, he doesn't recognize it). Most of the time it's just a fade-greenish blink and then the phone turns itself on and stays at SONY. (I always plug in the USB cable first in the phone, then hold the -back- button and then plug the USB in the PC)
Any ideas? Perhaps I need an older flashtool version to flash over GB firmware? Or is there an easier way to solve this?
Every bit of help will be most appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

CWM via x-Parts right?? It is stored in system files so when you wipe everything even CWM wipes off.
You got to use SEUS. Update your device and search for the repair link. This will bring you back to stock rom.
Cheers!!

I've tried it, but with a slightly cleaner approach. I DL'd and installed SEUS on my laptop (which hasn't been used to this kind of purpose before).
Started SEUS, connected the device for the first time, as explained, laptop recognised it as a SEMC device, SEUS recognised it, checked it and said the software was up to date. I'm not certain if this should have happened, anyho, I've tried connecting the device again for the newly installed Flashtool, but now it's back to the fade-green blink and SONY routine.
Maybe I need a different driver for the device? Perhaps my laptop has marked the device as "problematic" and doesn't want to cooperate with it or sth?

My main problem is that I cannot connect the phone properly. I hold the back button, plug the USB in, and the PC doesn't recognise the device. I think that, after the first time i plugged it in, something went wrong.
EDIT: I don't get the solid-green light i should be getting, but instead a flash of green and boot till SONY logo.

You have to keep trying because flashtool does not recognise the device 100% of the time. Try restarting your computer or removing the battery from your phone before trying to connect your phone to your computer.

And only connect your device when you're prompted to by flashtool... Not before.

I've tried deleting the "unknown device" drivers (that's how the PC recognises it), and replugging afterwards, but nothing happened.
Although, i've started up SEUS, came to the "plug in" step, and instead of pluging in the USB in the PC, i plugged it in the phone and then in the PC: I got a solid green light, PC installed and verified the device as SEMC device, but SEUS didn't move a muscle.
I'll try on a fresh PC, might just do the trick.
Thanks all for the help, keep the advices coming, very much appreciated

I've been deleting the "unknown device" 's drivers and replugging my arc and, well, it was mostly luck. On one attempt SEUS recognised the device, ran it's check procedure, and gave me a "everything's up to date" answer. There was no 'repair' button. Image included in post.
While i was at it, i decided to try my luck with flashtool aswell. after a series of no-recognition at all, i got some attempts through, but no flashing occured. and then once i got a 15-20% of flashing done, before it was interrupted by dont-know-what. image included aswell.
Any ideas? My bootloader is locked I think, i've found a post to fix it with an unlocked bootloader, but i've got no idea how to unlock it if i can't access my phone.
P.s: my SEUS is in my native language. the translations would be:
Finished! There is no new software available for your phone. Your phone already has the newest available software installed.

PC Companion also has the option to repair firmware. Try it.

FIXED. Hate it when someone posts an issue, solves it, and then doesn't explain how he did it.
Anyho, this is all about patience and determination. I've installed an older version of the Flashtool (0.6.) on my laptop and i was getting about 5% of the flashing procedure completed. From time to time i'd get more than 5%, until eventually i got to 100%, now my device is working on a so-far stable GB.
Details: I would first plug in the USB in the PC, then hold the back button, then plug in the phone. I kept the back button pressed during the entire flashing procedure, not sure if it helped, but hey, it worked.
I've also used a stock GB firmware, link was found on this website somewhere on the internets.

Phone Bricked - Help Appreciated

Okay long story short, I was flashing Kang's Bullet kernel to my phone without the battery cover on (I know, I'm a dumb ass) and go figure, the battery pops out. I put the battery back in, and the phone doesn't boot as I sorta expected.
When I plug my phone into the computer it shows up as a qhs_usb device but it didn't have drivers. I searched around, found the drivers I needed here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14909282&postcount=19 . So now my computer and Odin recognize my phone, but when I try to flash the stock kernel back on the phone it gets stuck on "Setup Connection". I'm having the exact same issue as this guy - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19091572&postcount=7
Does anyone have any insight as to how to get around this problem? While doing some more searching, I read that a USB jig may work. Will that work with our phones or is that only for the first gen Galaxy phones? Thanks in advance for any help.

Ha. Don't worry. I bricked my phone on my first try too. What I did was connect my phone to odin again, but just rooted it all over again. It worked too. Download the files you need and use odin to root it again. It should work.
yup, just boot into the Download mode, and flash back to stock via ODIN, then you can go from there
a USB jig will definitely make it easier
Thanks for the help so far guys. Okay unfortunately I can't get into download mode. My phone doesn't show anything on the display, make any sounds or anything. I've tried different combinations of pressing the volume up/down key and inserting the USB cable, but Odin still freezes at the "Setup Connection" step. I think its fully bricked because even when I don't press any keys when plugging in my phone my computer still recognizes it as the same device and Odin still freezes. I've attached a pic to show what I mean. The "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader device I have expanded in device manager is what my computer sees the phone as, no matter what I do.

*Take the battery out and place it back
*Hold both Vol up + Vol down, and plug the USB cable in.
That will bring you to download mode
or leave the batt. out for a min. or 2. Also try a different port see if that helps.
Thanks for all the help guys. Unfortunately I can't get it into download mode. I even tried with my friends jig - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rdn5GoRjhn0&noredirect=1 but it doesn't work. I'm just going to consider this a loss and see if I can get another phone used on CraigsList or eBay.
How I unbricked mine....
I was having a hard time as well after bricking my phone. In desperation, this is what I did....
I went to another pc, my work laptop, and installed the drivers and installed odin on it. Simply plugged the phone in and flashed via Odin back to stock firmware. All it took was swapping pc's. I was having the same issue............
My guess is that somehow since the original pc "knew" the phone, it couldn't decipher the phone in a different state, but it did prove to work on another pc.
I hope this helps you!
wait until unbrickable mod comes out..lol
You can also trya different usb on your PC. I could always find Odin. Good luck

Thanks, I did try this one last time, but it didn't work :\ . I've already given up hope because I did some more reading and when the phone gets in this mode, it means the eMMC (or something like that) needs to be re-flashed and that's something they have to do at the factory.

Yea but I bought it the first day it came out, not sure they would take it back if I tried to return it. Also it's 100% my fault, so I would feel bad trying to return it. But thanks for the advice though.

Problem flashing another FW (.62)

I plugged in my phone in fastboot mode and used flashtool to flash a .62 fw in order for me to get jokawild v3. It was flashing really slowly and after 2 hours it was up to 19%. So I left it over night. Today in the morning when I looked at it, there was a red light flashing on my phone and flashtool said that the flashing has been aborted. Here is a log from flashtool.
So why did it take frickin long and how do I really flash a fw. I though I was doing the right steps.
EDIT = When I try to turn on my phone, the Sony Ericsson logo comes up although after that, a picture with a phone and exclamation mark appears and it keeps on repeating. PLEASE HELP. HAVE I BRICKED MY PHONE!!???
You were connected in fastboot mode you only need that to flash kernels and such. You need to be connected in FLASH mode when flashing a new firmware. With your phone turned off and when your prompted hold the BACK button and plug in the usb cable, the led will turn GREEN which is flash mode and flashing should begin as normal
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
yes, im pretty sure i did hold the back button when plugging it in. This is what I did: Connected the phone by holding the back button and plugging it in (a green LED light appeared on my phone). opened up flashtool. Drag and dropped the .62fw on flashtool and thats it. it started flashing the fw.
Btw, is my phone bricked, am i able to get it back to normal (i forgot to make a backup on my stock rom)
im just flashing it again hopefully it'll be quick and also why did it take the whole day and still not be completed?
And how long does it take?
According to this http://www.theandroidsoul.com/tutorial-how-to-flash-a-firmware-using-flashtool-on-xperia-arc/ website, when he was flashing it, and it took him approx 3 minutes (if you look at the time logs). So why is mine taking soooo long?! Sorry if im impatient. Is it because I didnt untick anything when i insertd the .ftf file in flashtool?
I just got the same message again. Look in attachement. So what is the problem? Am i setting it up right?
Whenever i browse to find the fw using flashtool, these are the settings (look in attachment). What am i supposed to do? Am i supposed to keep those settings?
Can someone please help. I dont want to brick my phone. Whenever I turn on my phone, it keeps showing the SE logo and then a phone with an exclamation mark appears. This keeps on looping. Can someone please help. Thanks.
Have you tried an earlier version of flashtool? Is the battery at least 50% charge? Are all the drivers properly installed?
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
Yes I have tried earlier version of flashtool. And i also tried flashing another ftf FW. Still same thing. I dont know if the battery is charged although i think it is since I left for for charge for approx 4 hours (and it can get to 100% in 4 hours). I think all the drivers are installed. I did have trouble installing the drivers so I just put the drivers in my desktop and pointed out to them when I was manually installing the drivers for my phones bootloader to be unlocked...
Fastboot drivers are different from flashtool drivers, check in the flashtool install folder you'll see a drivers folder try to reinstall those
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
I clicked on flashtool-driver.exe (it was in the driver folder in the flashtool directory) and installed all the drivers. Hopefully it will work now when i flash .62 on it although its still taking long. When it gets up to 23% when its flashing system.sin, it gives an error. why? and how long does it normally take to flash a FW?
I just attached the log. It didnt even work this time... WHY?!?
Should I try and flash it on a laptop instead of a computer? If yes, then can someone tell me how to PROPERLY set it up as I dont want to mess this chance up

Stuck on SONY logo

Hey all,
Yesterday I was about to flash a new ROM on my wifes Xperia S. She had an old ICS rom and I decided to go for the PAC MAN JB 4.2.2 ROM. Seemed ok.
I own a SGS2 myself so I consider myself a total noob when it comes to the Sony.
I know CWM works on on the XS and I am pretty sure I installed it when I romed it last time. Although I didn't remember how to enter CWM mode so I installed it again through that .bat file that comes with it.
I downloaded the ROM and the GAPPS and copied both to the phone. And now I thought I was set and went for it. Of course I did a Nandroid backup before and also from within the phone a full backup in Backup & Restore. Bootloader is unlocked by the way.
So now I boot into CWM and I do a full wipe/factory reset. I clear the cache and dalvik and also I format the system as he guides us to do in his installation video.
I then installed the rom or at least tried. Got the status 7 together with some error I can't remember.
I read then that people had issues downloading the rom with google chrome which sounds pretty far fetched but I decided to do what other did and downloaded the rom from firefox.
Then within CWM I thought to start the USB and copy it directly in CWM since I already had reset the phone and didn't want to go through the "new phone" routine. But the USB in CWM didn't work so I had to restart the phone.
It then got stuck on the initial SONY logo screen and I'm stuck there now.
I have installed the Flash tool from SONY coz I read in another thread that the only way out is to install stock rom. However when I connect the phone holding volume down windows 8 always say that the USB device is not recognized. I have of course rebooted the PC after.
I'm going to try this on my Windows 7 PC as well later after work but I dread I will be stuck there as well.
Can anyone shed some light on how I can get my wifes Xperia S to be recognized by her Windows 8 laptop? Or have I bricked her phone?
I have thought many times that I bricked my SGS2 but always came out on top, I don't want to lose this battle either.
if it says "Unknown Devices" when you plug the phone to the computer, try change an USB line or change a computer
if it says "Unable to install the driver" or another something like this when you plug the phone to the computer, try install the Flashtool driver
...any screenshots?
Windows 8 gives a balloon tip saying exactly "USB Device not recognized". And I did install the Flashtool to get the driver but I guess I still miss the correct driver here.
I will do some more troubleshooting after work. I just thought maybe someone had similar problem and had a quick and easy solution.
It also happend to me, just turn it off and flash stock firmware with flashtool (select all under wipe)

The issue is not actually the "stuck on SONY logo". The issue is that the computer wont recognize the phone when I connect through USB.
What did you use to get the correct driver?
Ok I actually managed to get it connected on my Windows 7 PC.
I installed Emma (Flashtool) and it installed something but I'm not sure really what happened to be honest. Light on the phone was green and it installed 4.0.4 ICS.
It was a success after about 217 seconds but after that the phone didn't do anything. Stayed with green light and when I disconnected it it could not be started at all.
Maybe it doesn't have enough power to start up. It is on 220V charge now so lets see what will happen with it.

Good news y'all.
All it needed after using Emma was some juice. Now it is back to it's normal self. And I'm not going to ROM it anymore. Soon JB will be officially out for XS.
True!! When I was a noob, I tried to flash cyanogrnmod on my galaxy ace (it was a year ago) and I stuck in bootloop. Idk what to do and I regret it, from that day I never flash any rom. But this year I flash xzxperience on acro s and it works but not so happy and then I flash stock firmware to normal. And I regret because i ve unlocked bootloader!! And now BE is not working anymore.

With what did you try to upgrade and how? It seems your update has gone wrong, as you state, it got terminated in the middle? Probably if you connect through fastboot, or flashtool for windows, you can put in a new kernel and the rom. It seems your phones kernel is broken too. It should be fine once you install a new kernel and rom.
For how to do that please look at one of the tutorials here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320872
Hope it'll work out for you.

Xperia M stuck on Sony logo

Hey guys , my xperia m ( single sim ) is stuck on the sony logo whenever i try to boot it up.
I rooted my phone many months and it was perfect till this morning and then suddenly it got stuck at the sony logo.
Ive tried to fix it via the pc companion but it doesnt detect it . Now the battery has also run out so when i try to charge it , it shows the led for charging but then the sony logo comes up on its on and stays stuck there. Please help =(
That is a simple soft-brick/bootloop (depending on who you ask, I'd say bootloop).
Charge the phone for a couple of hours and then flash stock firmware with flashtool. To do this you will need to download the stock firmware ftf (these can ALL be found in the general section, don't ask for links) and also flashtool (http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php). Move the ftf to the firmware folder to where you extracted flashtool to (the C: is the best bet).
Once you have both of those things and your phone has charge in it open flashtool. Then click on the lightning bolt icon and then flashmode. Select the firmware you have downloaded.
UNTICK Wipe cache and data.
Click flash.
Wait for flashtool to tell you to connect your phone in flashmode (do this by holding volume down (I think) while the phone is off and you are connecting the USB cable).
Wait for the firmware to finish flashing.
If you get an error saying that loader.sin has finished processing with errors open the ftf with WinRar (or something similar) and delete the loader.sin file and make sure that you save the changes to the ftf.
If you are still stuck on the Sony logo after flashing, remove your battery and then put it back in and try to turn on the device again. If you are still stuck on the Sony logo after that you will have to wipe the cache and data with flashtool.
Try sony pc companian support

I read about the flashing thing on other sites aswell but what i was worried about was the fact that since pc companion isnt dectecting my phone will the flash be able to go through considering the fact that since pc companion isnt dectecting it even the flash tool might not?

Flashtool will definitely detect it, don't worry. PC Companion needs the phone to actually be booted to be able to detect it, whereas flashtool only needs the phone to be in either fastboot mode or flash mode to detect it. Both of these modes are initiated by the user when they are plugging in the USB cable and holding the respective volume button and the phone is off.

Thank you for helping me just btw
I know this'll annoy you a bit but the version that i have to flash it with is the stock one? Because i searched on the internet and some are with the 4.3 one and some are 4.2.2 so im a bit confused. Sorry im kind of a noob at this T_T
And flashtool first says that my phone is connected with usb debugging on then says phone is disconnected when its not :/

Any stock firmware to the device will work, so it can be any of the 4.1.2 variants or and of the 4.3 variants (4.2 is for dual SIM). And don't worry about being a noob, all of us were at one point or another.

When you are flashing a firmware be sure to keep the cable firmly connected throughout the entire process (use a different cable if the one you already have is a bit loose) and don't mess with the phone at all. Can you post the whole log you got from flashtool? Either in text form or through a screenshot?
