[Q] Gyroscope problems - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I been having problem with my gyroscope.. when I test sensors by *#0*# my gyroscope self test fail and also angular speeds are freezing exact numbers. I am moving my phone but they are not moving.. because of this I can not use direct call option and tilt zooming option.. They were working when I got the phone but I dont know what happened. I went back to stock and nothing got fixed. I rooted my phone again and still the same problem.
I have already tried everything
I read online that I may need the gyro drivers from the sys files but I don't have an other phone to pull them out.
Any idea how to fix it? Thanks

SLEEP OF DEATH !!! Help?

Screen will not turn back on once phone is put to sleep or if the proximity sensor turns it off during a call. Very annoying, have to soft reset constantly. I currently use Android on my phone cause at least the screen will turn back on when using that.
Right now i have a stock 6.5 t-mobile rom and have tried several other roms as well.
Any suggestions?
Yep, easy fix, I posted this several weeks ago:
With the tilt 2, if the screen does not wakeup, but you can answer the phone, hear music, etc..., it is a malfunctioning light sensor, maybe hardware, or software related (drivers), but it is fixable. Just eliminate all calls for use of the light sensor.
I had this problem and took quite a while to figure it out, as there are several apps that poll the light sensor that cause problems.
First, go to start/settings/system/power/backlight and uncheck the auto adjust backlight option
Second, go to start/settings/personal/buttons/backlight and uncheck the enable keyboard auto backlight sensor.
Last, open advanced config (need to download and install from touchxperience.com, if you do not have it), tab to light sensor and set light sensor polling to disabled.
Now, my phone works normal and will wake up properly from standby like it should. this all seems hardware dependant, as I have in my family 3 of these things and I dropped and broke mine, so bought a new one (4th in the series) and it had the SOD issues, but could restart with softrest. Took me the better part of the day to find a reliable fix, but now all is well again.
Hope this helps other Tilt 2 and similar issues.
There's a lot of reasons for the SOD. The methods above probably worked for some people but never did for me. If they don't work, i'd suggest taking your your micro sd card, running scandisk on it and seeing if there are any errors. I had to switch cards because my card had errors on it. Haven't gotten a SOD since.
Yes, that was the first thing I tried on mine, because I changed the SD card with the new phone, but no errors found, so I kept digging. Stopping the all calls to the light sensor was all that worked for me. There are typically 3 culprits, bad light sensor, bad or overwritten drivers for the light sensor and sd card or ROM errors. All hard to fix and just have to keep trying, or go back for warranty replacement and hope the next one works. For me, only 1 out of 4 in our household has this problem and they essentially all have the same software, ROM and micro SD cards in them. Go figure.
hi, i have the same problem with the sod. i installed the rom from comec. then i deactivated htc sense on my phone an installed spb mobile shell 3.5 and i have no sod

Google Sky Map problem after 2.2 update

Hello all,
Sorry if this was covered already, but I couldn't find anything about it.
After updating to 2.2 (OTA), Google Sky Map orientation seems to be acting weird. If I hold it so that I can see the horizon, with the phone in front of me, then spin around in a circle, the program doesn't pick up that movement. It used to work fine in 2.1.
Anyone else experiencing similar problems?
No problem here. Sounds like your compass. Do you have the same prob in street view?
Yes, same problem with street view.
I noticed that if I turn the phone around a bit, tilt up and down while rotating it, then it starts to work. As soon as I kill the app and start it again, I have to do it again. It's as if it's doing some calibration on the g-sensors while the app is running, which is then forgets when the app is killed.
Again, the exact same behaviour happens on street view and sky map.
Same thing is happening with the "Compass" app. At least this one gives me some feedback: "Abnormal magnetic field detected. Please calibrate your device". Doing a "figure-8" calibration solves this in every app, but the problem is that it never stays calibrated. I'm hoping someone else will be able to chime in with a possible fix before I try to do a full factory restore.
If anyone else is having this problem, a factory reset fixed it.
It's a bit of a shame because now I don't know what was really causing the problem.
I'm glad I am not the only one having this problem but I am not going to reset the phone. Has anyone called Sprint about this issue? If I have to reset this thing then I will be resetting to different hardware and a Windows 7 device in a few months.
Going to call Sprint to find out what they can do.

I am afraid that factory reset is gonna be only one possible solution. Take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747398 I faced similar issue on my Desire. In a nutshell, all apps using embedded compass functionality just acted up (including Google Sky Map) after OTA update to 2.2.
I had a similar problem and then realised it was the magnetic clip on my case causing the problem
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I've experienced the same problem too.
When I started skymap, the orientation didn't change, no matter how much I was waving the phone.
But today I tried to just uninstall it, reboot and then install it again. Strangely enough, now it's working again .
So you could probably try that first before considering hard reset.
Every time I use a program that uses the compass I do this trick or the compass wont work for me

[Q] magnetometer issue

Hi guys,
just came back from me business trip and realized that.. I have posted something totally useless.
So I came back, with the same request, but properly explained.
I have and issue with my Desire HD. There is a strange problem with the magnetometer. I took me a while to find out that is connected to it, because.. sometimes by screen just remains blocked. There is no response from it to touch. After some seconds (between 1 and 20), it works. But, the compass is not working (if I check with some sensor application it says that magnetometer is not present.
Sometimes, the best workaround is to disable screen rotation (that is also somehow strange to me, as I don't really see the connection).
After a factory reset (install new ROM, etc), everything is OK until I use the GPS the first time.
So, the questions now:
1. As the sensor works (sometimes for days), I expect to be a 'software' problem. How do I manually reset the magnetometer? I have read that for Galaxy (for example), you can do that by getting in some hidden factory menu...
2. Is it posible to disable the sensor totally? I would not like to do that, as I would like to have the screen rotation, but it can be handy to be able to enable/disable it.
Thanks for all your answer

Accelerometer- Possible Hardware fault?

I've not had this issue up until yesterday, the phone would joy auto rotate, and games such as temple run weren't playable due to the accelerometer not registering anything at all, I reset the phone and it worked fine.
now, the issue has come back, but Won't go, I've reset the phone, Booted in safe mode, performed a factory reset, everything. (the only difference factory reset made was that when I try to calibrate the G sensor it says 'calibration complete' instead of calibration aborted.)
However, still the bubbles do not move.
I've looked on the sensor debug app, it shows no data.
Now, what's strange is on the camera I have taken two identically pictures.
One I took in portrait, the other I took in landscape.
I went to gallery and the picture I took in portrait appears as a landscape picture, and the one I took in landscape appears as a portrait picture :s
Well, that shows the accelerometer is working right? (Even though it's backwards)
I'm really confused, I don't want to have to return my phone but if it's a hardware fault I have no choice.
By the way, I'm completely stock.
-bump-
When I calibrate the phone while moving it around, the calibration aborts.
But when I calibrate it as you should. on a flat surface it says calibration completed.
so therefore, the Accelerometer must be working in there.
Which makes me wonder if it's a hardware fault or an issue with the kernel or Rom? (Stock)
...
Mine had a similar problem in that it stopped auto rotating in anything, turned out to be a hardware fault as like you I tried every software test. Your best bit would to either do a factory resit on the phone (unless already done so) and it that does not fix it have you tired the htc function tester?
If yes to both it may be the case that you have to send it for repair.
My auto rotate was a hardware fault and they had to replace the main board and a lot of other silly components I have to clue as to what they are.
I hope this helps.
Same problem here. This issue actually concerns a lot of people.
No fix for the moment, check this thread for more info:

Proximity sensor not working since june 2019 security patch

Hi
I'm searching for anyone else having the same problem as me and other people that i've seen in Lenovo Forums
I'm having different problems, but the most important for me is the proximity sensor, because once I answered a phone call, it makes impossible to hang up because the display turns black and it doesn´t "wakes" until the phone call has ended. The same problem with audios in whatsapp.
Another problem is that Moto Actions like turn on the flashlight with a shake, and open the camera with a twist doesn´t work anymore. Plus, the vibrator started to fail, having an unusual behavior until it just stopped.
And the device is not recognized correctly in any computer I've tried, it just appears as "unknown device", and the device doesn't show the options that use to appear when connected to a computer, it just says "charging".
I want to think that all of them are software problems, and not hardware problems, because they all started after the june 2019 update, and, as I said, there are other people having the same problems, and I think it would be a big coincidence if all of us have the same problems with our hardware.
If any of you have had the same problems, could you tell me if you could find a way to fix it? Or, anyone has any idea how could I solve, at least the proximity sensor problem, it would be better if the device don't turn off the screen anymore during phone calls.
I've tried reinstalling the drivers in 3 different pc's, and any of them worked, but when I tried with another device (Moto z2 force) they all worked. I've done factory reset three times, and one hard reset, with no changes. Could someone help me?
Thanks for reading.
Well, sound like... simply failing phone ? RMA ?

Do you think that? I've had this phone for a year and a half, and I've never had any issue, until the last update on june 2019.
Maybe is a coincidence and my phone started to fail just after the update, but to be sure, I want to know if there's someone else having the same issue, and maybe someone could fix it.
I've had these problems a few months ago too, but back then I was thinking it was related to a hardware problem cause I had to send my phone to fix the screen (broken glass) and after that I noticed that the moto actions wasn't working properly, as the flash light from the frontal camera and the most annoying of the problems, the proximity sensor that would stop working when I got a call or audios in whatsapp. All of these was solved a couple weeks ago tho, after I had to fix my screen again (yes, 2 times in 3 months, congrats), just days before the android pie was released, so I can't say exactly what fixed it
