Dreading the software update notifications I messed with the phone and deleted the softwareupdate.apk which did fix my notifications. I am having horrible 3g speeds at work (150-200kb) and now I want to try to update my PRL which hopes of this being the solution.
Can someone post the apk file that I can put back on my phone?
Pull it from your rom zip which you should still have on your sd card. Push it to system

Try re-updating. Sometimes the updater will say it's finished, but it will have only partially downloaded zImage.tar and not even extracted it. Otherwise, if updating again doesn't fix it, you can download the latest zImage and kernel modules from here or here and place them in the andboot folder.
having the same problem
have tried several times now
Im using the 2.1 sense version...

I just did an update using the update software and now android won't boot. I think it may be timing out or something.
i'm using wifi to download since my network is sketchy at my house and im really hoping that has nothing to do with it.

Could very well be an issue with the server that it is downloading the update from, as this is happening to some users at PPCG as well. Also using the update utility right now you will not be getting the newest battery fixes.
Use the files found here. Download them, delete the old zimage file and modules file from your andboot folder. Paste the new ones into same folder. Boot back into android.

It does the same exact thing to me, I learned to jus stop usin it.
Its to hit an miss for now, and I'm sure someone will fix it sooner or later.

Dave is right, the same thing happened to me. I sometimes have to update twice to get it running
And if that doesn't work, copy the files under Daves reply into your andboot folder like he said
Gotta love copy/paste

I somehow messed up the services.jar file under system/framework. I don't know if I deleted it or somehow edited it inadvertently but now my phone will hardly function. It does boot, but every app/process force closes. I cannot even access the task manager or make calls. Is there any way to restore the file, through clockwork mod or? My brother has the same phone so can I copy the file from his phone on the SD card and then stick it in my phone and update zip from sd? Except it is not a zip. Hmm...
I am on a Sprint Samsung galaxy s2 Epic 4g touch
Thanks in advance.
Wrong thread. Btw just reflash whatever rom your using.

Try copying your brother's file directly to /system/framework. You might have to change the permissions to match what it was originally. You might also have to reboot afterwards for it to take effect.

I know that when going into 4.2.x at first it gives you the emulated/0 files. But my problem is I can't delete these files... I have made a complete back up and tried to format the internal storage via TWRP, but the /0 files keep coming up, etc. How do I keep it from doing that? I can't seem to find my answer.
Apparently I'm doing something wrong, can anyone help?
No problem here. Just the way 4.2 works.
You will have those folders if you are still on a 4.2 rom. You can only delete them if you go back to 4.1

Oh, I didn't know you had to revert back to 4.1 to delete them. Good ****. Thanks.
I flashed carbon ROM. Everything was working great. Wanted to try some touchwiz ROMs so I flashed the virtue ROM. Got the sdcard/0. Read about it and so I renamed sdcard/0 to sdcard and moved it to replace the original sdcard. But in twrp I still couldn't find my files so I flashed back to carbon ROM and now I have sdcard and sdcard 0, sdcard 1 and emulator with a 0 file in and none of them have files in them. They're all empty. Seems as though everything has been deleted even my nandroids. Tb backups are gone. I can't even find the directory for twrp. But it seems like everything is still there cause my available storage is at 5gbs. I should have more than 5gbs available it seems like. I've searched and kind find anything when the files are missing. Any help would be appreciated. I'm at a loss as to what to do to get things back to normal.

Dude. Never mess with the internal storage NEVER delete files you think are important. The file you messed with is the MAIN "sd card" "0" is where all your Samsung stuff goes to dude.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
I didn't have a 0 folder until I flashed to a tw ROM from carbon. Everything I read was that folder is created when u flash back from aosp to tw. Copy it back to the sdcard folder any everything should be normal. I did that and everything seemed fine but I didn't like the tw ROM I was in so I flashed back to carbon and that's when the other folders were created but everything was gone.
But the odd part is I still have twrp recovery but can't find it in root explorer and under storage it says I have 11 gbs total of which 5 are available. But it doesn't show anything using those 6gbs. Its almost like everything is there just hidden.
I'm wondering if I unroot and go back to stock state that clears it up or I just smash it and use my best buy insurance. Cause something's not right. Carbon ROM still working for me but having that little of storage available just seems like something is wrong.

I know right. I usually can understand and fix things like this but this one has me stumped. My brother was right...I tried iPhone for a year and it made me dumber.

Alright. Im back on stock. Still rooted with stock recovery.
All of my files are still there as I thought. But they are buried. From what ive read I should be able to copy those back into the original sdcard folder. Im about to leave work and head home. I'll post the file paths if anyone is willing to walk me thru the process.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
That happened because you flashed CarbonRom which is 4.2.2, which changes the directory structure to support multiple user accounts.
You would have been alright if you hadn't mucked with the sdcard directory tree. Flash back to bone stock and you should be good. But never ever mess with sdcard directories again :silly:
So before I flashed anything I could find everything under home-> >sdcard. Now everything under that path is just empty folders except there is another sdcard folder that has everything full. Tb backups. Nandroids. Downloads. App data.
But if I go under home->> storage->>sdcard0->> sdcard everything is also in there. Duplicates.
Am I able to delete these or clean it up so I dont have doubles if everything? Its using up a lot of my storage.

Im back on bare bone stock now by the way. Rooted with stock recovery.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Jeez. Theres a 0 folder under home>> sdcard that has all the sdcard folders in it too. But it doesn't have duplicates it has other files from my last rom to get me back to stock. This is out of control.

If you are one of the rare people (like myself) that cannot get the camera to connect regardless of what you do, then here ya go
I finally found a fix after 2 hours tracking the problem. Just place this file in data/cfw using a root explorer then camera should work no problem

Hope this helps

When were you having the problem? When opening the camera app? Or when trying to edit a pic from the gallery?
Thank you so much. I just have these 2 questions.
1 Are you referring to data in the external or internal storage
2 That CFW folder, do you create it or is it supposed to be there?
Again thank you cuz I really like this ROM but no having the camera is really annoying
UPDATE: tried it and nothing. I did data in the internal storage.. And just dumped it in there. Still having the issue.

It's on internal root. Also paste it in vendor/firmware
You should already have some files in data/cfw

When opening camera
Sent from my Note 2 using Tapatalk 4
This was an issue that was discussed before due to incompatible camera firmware with AOSP roms on some Note II devices. I also could not find anything in the data folder but after giving root permissions to File Explorer I found the cfw folder in data and just moved the SlimZM bin file into there and camera worked right away.
I just hope they would include the SlimZM bin in the next update since the latest CM 10.1 nightly has it included in system/vendor/firmware and we don't have to do it manually.
Bump

Use a root explorer (file manager )....that allows root file access...then enable read/write status within the app...
Then you'll be able to copy and paste the file successfully...
The device must be rooted of course....g
