I had the same problem. Amazon is awesome when replacing kindles. Just give them a call, and normally they will send you another one, and THEN you send yours in. Mine was dual booted and just sent it back, and was fine. I'm not sure tho, they may send you a second gen..

I believe @Ichigo made a guide in the Dual boot thread a while back. Lemmie check

Here's a guide. I don't have much time, so I can't explain properly, and I may forget some steps.
Guide:
1)Backup sdcard
2)Wipe Alt-Partitions with flashable .zip here
3)Run
4)Download fff 1.4 here and install it via fastboot(unzip for .bin file)
5)Download GR9 Modaco
6)Flash GR9 Modaco(backup your current ROM)
7)Go to settings and do a factory reset.
Put your backup'ed sdcard files back in your sdcard
9)Recover
10)You should now be undual-booted and have your full sdcard storage back.

[Q] What is the stock Kindle Fire build.prop manufacturer settings?

I, along with others, have ran into issues on CM7 downloading apps from the Market intended for the Kindle Fire, as it claims that our device is not supported. Editing the build.prop could fix this, and I'd like to include it as an FAQ on using DizzyDen's IMEI Generator.
I just need the settings for "Device_Manufacturer," "Manufacturer_Device," and "Device_Model" for a stock Kindle Fire, if someone could please share.

I don't see "Device_Manufacturer" or "Manufacturer_Device" or "Device Model".
I can give you some close settings....
ro.product.model=Full Android on Blaze or SDP
ro.product.brand=generic
ro.product.name=blaze
ro.product.device=blaze
ro.product.manufacturer=TI

Thanks a lot. I'll run the program a few times and see what setting configures what build.prop information
Thanks again! I've updated my tutorial to include those edits.

Can someone post the stock build.prop file please?
I renamed mine to build.prop.bak but didn't move it. Now its gone
Did y'all get the build.prop from stock yet? If not, my wife just opened her fire last night and it's still completely stock, I can pull it from there if needed.

Amazon Market error

Newly rooted and rom'd as of tonight, but having issues with the amazon market. I'm on eyecandys ICS. Cleared cache and data for the app....but it still tells me to login with a valid user name/password....and before you say it, they are both correct, confirmed by logging into the kindle app. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. The crappy part is, is that my email isn't recognized as an amazon account anymore.
Does rooting the KF cause amazon to cancel your account?
anyone else have this problem?
It doesn't cancel the account, mine is still active and in use on my phone, my wife's phone, and my transformer prime...not sure why it wont take it on the kindle

I've done this on the Atrix before using ROM Toolbox. One word of warning, I soft bricked my 1st Kindle with it by tinkering on the default ROM, so make sure you have backups.

[Q] Kindle Fire Update break Launcher Wallpapers

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and I need some help.
Due to the Kindle fire update, my wallpapers for my launcher (Apex) seemed to have broke. I keep getting a black background. I've tried to use other launchers such as Nova but I get the same result. Does anyone know how to fix this? All help would be appreciated
BUMP. Having same issue. Background stays black and I've tried to change it but it stays the same

Sounds like you lost your wall paper chooser apk.
Try using kindlefree to reinstall or reinstall the way you did originally

Yeah amazon removed that "feature" because they want to force you to use the amazon launcher. I`ve tried many things but i didn`t find a solution yet.

Hi guys did anyone find a solution to the wall paper issue
I have the same problem on my Kindle Fire HD 7", a recent purchase which is superb, rooted following the guides on here Thanks But on May 30th the wall paper stopped working, just a black back ground all the time, The Kindle lost root access at the same time, so I had to re-root it, did that but it still didnt resolve the wall paper issue Currently on system version 7.4.1, Thanks in advance for any help :good:
I know I posted it before but I thought I'd post it again, I made an automated script that fixes your kindles wallpaper. Believe its on page 8 of this thread, this will work on kf2, hd7 and 8.9".

It works, but for now I left the script so it gives more output if you have an error. So far the only problems people have had were related to their own java paths not being set right, still not sure why that was but it wasn't related to my script. If such an occurrence happens it will just push the original unmodded framework back onto the device and make a backup still, in which case you would have to choose the restore option before trying again. I may add a preventative measure so it will just error out if the class paths are incorrect, but I have to get the exit error code from someone with the problem.

Just applied the fix bu Stunts, worked a treat :good: I have to put the path in though for Java as it failed the first time saying java could not be found, even though I knew it was installed on my PC.. Thanks again Stunts513, your the fella
I used a widget to do this, it's a lot less of a hassle. Desktop VisualiZer, you can set it as large as you want it and place things over the top of it. It works exactly like a wallpaper, but it's just a widget. You need a launcher that lets you stack things on top of each other like Nova. Plus it wont break with every patch.
Here is my kindle now:

Hey, I have a first gen kindle for a while and decided I want to root it. I'm usuly good and rooting and unlocking phones. I've read all the guides and such displayed on the forums but cant seem to get it working. Wondering if someone can maybe guide and help me out via hangouts, or Skype.
50+ views no help?
To make it easy use KFU from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192818. Its simple just have KFU and your Kindle + USB Cable. Contact me at hangouts from my gmail account at: [email protected]. I suggest you to read this guide first: http://liliputing.com/2012/05/how-to-root-a-kindle-fire-with-software-version-6-3-1.html . I used this to root my Kindle. If you still need help contact me.
