has anyone been able to change the dialer background color from white to black? a few of us have been trying for awhile now with no success. sammy has hidden it deep for some reason. any insight would be appreciated. thanks in advance.
Is it in the phone.apk? Perhaps another version of the phone (Canadian model?) has a dark theme?
Ive tried the secContacts and secPhone apk's from the other carriers...no dice.

Theres a tmobile set you can flash from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42252851
includes a few apps.
includes framework theming as well so I dont want to flash over wickeds rom... I may try just extracting the apps i want manually and move them into the system/apps with root explorer, set permissions and reboot.
Edit: Worked pretty nicely. I manually installed phone and contacts from the link above. Pretty happy with the results.

I'm trying to edit something in the SecContacts.apk after editing the correct line in the xml file. Recompile fine and push to phone.
When I open the Contacts app it work fine but if I open the Phone app directly or with the Phone tab inside Contacts it shut down. Any insight to what I'm doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated. I've edit apk in the past but this is first attempt with the GS4.
This is what I'm trying to do
-Change the number to white (see picture)
-I've tried editing this line
Code:
<com.sec.android.app.dialertab.dialpad.EllipsisT ex tView android:configChanges="keyboardHidden" android:textSize="40.0sp" android:typeface="sans" android:textColor="#ffffffff" ->
in res/layout-sw359dp-xhdpi/dialpad_fragment.xml

I'd like to apply the Blue Circle Battery Mod that's linked in the Frosty Jelly Bean ROM thread to Wicked 9
Link is here... http://sourceforge.net/projects/d2tmo/files/Themes/?
Before you say "Wicked 9 already has the Circle Battery mod as part of the installer", a lot of the icons are different in the Wicked set, and are white instead of blue.
Currently, when applied, it works great for the most part. The toggles go to Holo blue, the status bar icons all change to Holo blue, the only thing that gets nuked by it is the centered clock. The stock clock gets applied with no ability to remove the large AM/PM, or to center it.
Is there any way to easily tweak that Circle Battery Mod to not touch the clock mods that come along with Wicked, but still apply the changes to the toggles and status bar icons?
You'll have to pull the systemui.apk from the both roms, and pull the battery images out of the frosty one and drop them into the wicked one. Then push it back to your system/app directory

Thanks. That part I understand, the general steps. I've been looking in SystemUI and can't seem to find the icons.
Once I find the locations of the icons (proving to be the hard part), swapping them is the easy part. Once they are swapped, can I just rezip the ROM with 7zip or does it need to be zipped in a different way that recompiles it?

Great, I'll just keep looking in all of those folders till I come across them. If you do come across the locations, feel free to let me know, in the meantime, I'll be rummaging thru them. Thanks again.
I found the blue circle battery icons for the circle battery mod flashable for frosty...
SystemUI\res\drawable-xhdpi\
So, in theory, I should be able to find the same folder in the Wicked 9 zip, and replace like-filenames with the graphics I want.
Then I 7zip SystemUI.apk back up, then 7zip the whole ROM up again? Is that right? Seems too easy to me.
I might also check in in the Wicked thread in case there's anything else I need to be aware of, seeing as it has an Aroma installer with multiple themes.

Hello everyone, hope you guys are having a great holiday season. Anyway I've been trying to theme the stock 4.3 secmms.apk. What I have been trying to do is make a lighter theme. I'm not the best xml or theming but I know the basics. My questions if you're willing to help.
-How can I change the blue header on both the conversations and messages? I would prefer for it to a light grey. It seems impossible to change!
- How do I change the boxes. I would like theme similar to the hangouts theme. Everytime I try the words go outside of it.
That is really all for now.
Thanks for the help. :good:

Here is a flashable zip containing the Mms.apk from Baked Rom that is fully themable. The apk is version 4.2.1 because I like it better than 4.2.2. I have fixed the Sectelephony, and framework2.jar from MJE and the CSC/features so that there are no problems. MMS works like a charm. I changed the default icon to the hangouts icon, other than that, the Mms.apk belongs to the guys from Baked Rom, so give them thanks for making it fully customizable. I need to thank sbreen94 for finding the fix for contacts fc'ing. I also need to shout out to JBeXX over in the S4 forums for the updater_script. Anyway.... make sure you rename SecMms.apk to SecMms.bak, or delete it if you don't plan on using it.
This will erase all mms data when you flash it (part of getting aosp mms to work)
Flash in recovery: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ab9frfwafnar7pb/AOSPMMSMJE.zip
You can flash any AOSP Mms.apk up to 4.2.2 and it will work (I think)

Lol, did you make the change to Verizon too?
Yup. Sprint pissed me off bad. I could take up paragraphs. Ten years with them, what was I thinking? The only thing I miss is the airrave. With sprint I could get signal in the basement of my house, crap everywhere else. Verizon is the opposite. And I'm actually paying less.

Yeah, on the Transform..... man, that was a long time ago. Learned a lot since then.... Sprint pissed me off too, I ended up selling my note 2 for 350, paying off my contract for 180 and getting a note 2 on Verizon for 100. Just moved up to the 3 a month ago or so. PM me your story, Im interested... lol. Ill tell you mine.
This is terrific, exactly what I wanted... A stock dark themed mms. This is mostly glitch free, the only problem I notice is with group texts, because that's mostly all I use during the day time, sometimes it doesn't give the option to send as a group or individually and seems to glitch when you click on the part where it lists the names of recipients by sending you straight back to the conversation list.
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
The group messaging thing must be in the apk. I just did it with the mms.apk from cm10.2 with no problems. Im running an all white theme, that's why I'm using cm10 mms.

Lets keep this short and sweet. I threw this together using LoserSkater's very easy to follow guide that he posted last year. With the inspiration from Old and Slow getting this to work again on Verizon. Now this is 100% fully functional and should work for any ATT or tmobile device. And lastly thanks to @lowrider262 for the awesome customizable mms.apk from here that makes this return oh so sweet.
If you experience any FCs or issues my first suggestion is to clear your messages. To do so open your favorite root browser and go to here from the root folder "data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases" and remove the following 3 files completely. (mmssms.db, mmssms.db-shm, and mmssms.db-wal)
Thanks to Alex9090 for testing this out on tmobile and finding out it works there flawlessly.

It worked perfectly. I just wanted the one with built in theme option. Your files made that possible too.

Do you mind posting the one you used with theming options?

Here you go. I think this one is from baked beans Rom. I had tried this before but mms would always crash. I flashed yours with your framework jar and telephony file and then replaced your mms.apk with this one and it works great now. Thanks again.

Thanks again for your valuable contribution! It looks like I won't have time to test it tonight but here's where I got that mms.apk from (custommmsmod.zip).

Man, I thank you for thanking me but the real thanks goes to YOU! :highfive:
New update in the original post! Now to hook sprint up.
Am I missing something simple? Flashed a few times with no change. Replaced mms.apk in the zip with the one posted and nothing changed. And when I try to rename or overwrite MMS.apk in system/apps through es file explorer I get errors saying I can't.

Not sure whats going on here but the mms.apk posted is the one in the zip. All you should have to do is flash the zip then you can go and remove the stock messaging apk. You should see 2 messaging apps, one green and one blue. The blue one is AOSP Mms. Only other thing I suggest is clearing your messages and the other step I posted in red in the OP might help any force closes for the app.
Installing 8sms app is quicker

Quicker isn't always better...
It would also be quicker just to use stock messaging but wheres the fun in that
Well Since coming to Kitkat, I loved the flashlight toggle that tweaked offered. So I set out to enable it on this firmware. Plus I need to contribute something to the Note 3
First things first;
@CNexus - For the how-to on the mod - and creating it, and allowing me to post it.
@dwitherell - for the smali help(stupid santax), and help with everything else.
@foreverloco - for helping me with everything, his AOSP theme(that toggle is coming later)
Now On to the Mod - there are 2 parts that need to be flashed. Part 1, and then Part 2. YOU MUST FLASH BOTH PARTS.
Download Part 1
Download Part 2

Thats it, enjoy!
Oh and it shouldnt matter if you are odexed or deodexed, both APK's are already deodexed, however you will need to delete the .odex files for the SystemUI and SecSettings in /system/priv-app
Awesomeness!
What's the name of the file that I need to delete?
Nvm I understand now.

nice man!
do you think you could add a couple other toggles too? like mobile data and smart network? that would be ideal :good:

Those are already there, you just need to add them to the settings.db with an sqlite editor, as you can see from the screenshots. Mobile data is already enabled for me
I suppose I could add it to the second part of the flashable zip. Where it enables mobile data and flashlight.
2nd part does not flash... (using TWRP/Philz) says fail.
I found a solution... Flash attached file below, then immediately flash the OP's part 1... Reboot & done...

The second part just adds the "Flashlight" to settings.db.

That's weird. It flashes on some and not on others.. I'll find out why today.
Stupid updater script. Missed a ";" re-uploading now.

Here is the how to that I followed.
Make sure to thank @CNexus for this.
A few pointers, I used apktool beta9, and I will need to send you my flashlight smali file. Unless he has uploaded the correct one. Otherwise the sysui won't compile back.
