[Q] b0rked MHL output - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have a samsung ead-r10 pico-projector. I used to connect to my galaxy nexus phone with a MHL cable that came with the projector, and it used to "just work" when I was on ice-cream sandwich. You'd plug in the cable, and the phone would automatically rotate to landscape and mirror your screen onto the projector, nice!
Recently an over-the-air upgrade to Android version 4.1.2 jellybean came (I'm on Telstra), and it's somehow not working after that. Now when I plug in the device, it jerks around looking like it's trying to do its thing, and the projector kind of flicks on and off, and then it gives up. The upgrade didn't seem to break anything else. I know the projector is OK because it still works normally with my laptop.
Is this a known issue? I searched around the forums but couldn't find similar problems. How can I troubleshoot that feature and try to get my HDMI out back? I really miss that feature.

HDMI Out

So I got an HDMI cable today for the device and I am pretty disappointed. I plugged it in and it only detected the device as displaying 720p. Adding to this, the sides were cut off. Another issue I've been having is that whenever I move the device, the picture would disappear, but that might be an issue of the cable itself.
Anyone have any experience with the HDMI out and if I can get it working correctly? I am running the first ICS leak on the device currently.
Also, I've read that some people were able to get 1080p out of this?
Its either the cord, tv, or the port. I know on my TV there was an issue where the video was 1080i/p (I forget which), but the audio didn't play, plugged it into a different port, and the problem was solved. This was on a samsung TV and results may very. If you can, try a different port, then a new cord, finally try it on another hdmi device and see if it works, if the problem continues, then just replace the tab.
God, I sound just like a support person, "Results may very," lawl.
Tried it on my Sony TV and my Samsung Moniter with the same results. I've managed to get a slightly better picture after messing around with the settings on the Samsung. Still not satisfied with the end results.
I feel I need to try connecting this to a scan converter or something just to see what the device is actually sending and stuff.
Hmmmm, I'm not the only one. My tablet worked find on my projector but now it doesn't even know when it is connected to it. Hooking it up to the 47 inch Samsung works without a hitch. I'm going to order the docking station and see if it makes a difference.

Both ics and hc hardware GEN2 I have sides cut off. I've tried different modes on my TV without much success. I think ti interlacing is off somehow.

Picked up an HDMI cable for the a100 off ebay for $5 with free shipping. 10ft with gold plated terminals and it has worked perfectly since day one. I hate how you can't turn the tablet screen off while streaming video :-\ other than that its a treat to have it displayed on our 50" Samsung and the quality is quite decent running the latest ICS leak.
I've tried 2 hdmi cables on 2 different TV's and only get 720p signal and the bottom taskbar is cut off and a bit on the top and maybe sides. I know for a fact that these cables support 1080p. But HDMI is just mirroring so it will mirror at the same resolution as the tab or as close as it can. And our tab is 1280x800 so it won't mirror in 1080p

[Q] does anyone have issues with the MHL Adapter?

hey guys. i have the official samsung MHL adpater and ive been having issues with the picture when put on my 40 inch 1080p tv. check out my video and look at the bottom left hand corner and u can see an odd box i guess that is clear. not sure how to describe it. but it goes anyway after awhile then it comes back. its annoying as hell. idk if its my phone that is messed up or not. i tried another samsung mhl adapter and it did the same thing so i ruled that out being the issue. u can see in my sig what i am running on my phone. it only does that on my tv not on the phone itself when im playing it through the mhl adapter.

Just a couple of things to check. Have you tried plugging it into different connections on your tv? How about a different tv? If it still doesn't work, you might want to backup and try stock to make sure it is not an issue with whichever rom you are currently running.
Hope this helps.

[QUESTION] Desktop Phone?

Hi Everybody!
I've been looking on forum for a thread similar but i couln't find one, so i'll try to explain what i'm trying to do with my phone and let's see if someone already got it.
Well, since i got the SGS3 on my hands for the fist time, i could feel how much hardware it does have and thinking about how much it's portable and easy to take, so i start to thinking if is posible to make some kind of "DeskDock" with some accesories.
I have a Logitech Unifying keyboard and a mouse wich means that with only one dongle i can connect both devices to it. Last week i brought a OTG cable and i tryed to connect it on my phone and it worked almost perfectly (some issues with keyboard layout, but nothing else), i got impressed that all functions keys from my keyboard was working.
Ok, got this point i was thinking how could i connect my OTG cable and also a MHL cable, so i can have HDMI-OUT and my keyboard and mouse working.
If this work i can have a totally functional desktop with 24 inches screen. I know that maybe people wont see any sense making it, but in my case i don't have a Netbook (i don't even like) and if i could get this working, i was thinking about run linux on my phone and get a full desktop experience.
Is anybody there who tried it?
I was thinking about some kind of USB HUB, but i have no idea if my phone would support it...

just look on this subforum for MHL and OTG.
Why not just by an "android PC" or the android TV box. It is basically a powerful tablet computer in a 3 inch square box with HDMI, two or three usb ports, wireless wifi and and SD card port. Cost less than $75 or you can spend more and even get a dual core . I have one on both of my big screen tv's with a wireless mouse (but for pc application you just use a combo keyboard mouse. Much easier and much more simple.

For most of us, it is the ability to take our "PC" with us, as a working tablet. For others, it is that when we get home, we want to just plug in our phone, and have larger everything.. but still use all the apps, and bookmarks etc that are the on the phone. For the rest.. it is about the cool factor.

HP lap dock

I recently obtained the HP lapdock for a fair price. This works via USB c connection just fine. I've been looking into how to get the wifi direct connection to work with no luck BUT I know its possible.
OXI rom has been able to successfully connect to the HP lapdock. See this video:

I have no idea how to try to even get this to work but my guess is it relies on something to do with the wifi direct api somewhere in the phone. Anyone want to take a look into this or know someone that could port this?
Thanks
OXI reached out after I contacted them. So if we could get Lineage support we could get OXI support. Anyone know how to build Lineage? Lol or know someone that could build it for us?

Trying turning off the dock, plug in the cable, turn the dock on, when it gets to the cable or wireless screen plug in the phone. I use the item cord. Sometimes takes 15 tries =/

Still no joy just the blank display although it's connected as when I press the keyboard it does stuff on my phone tried every combination on start up. So annoying but thanks anyway
So updated to 8.1 Oreo, enabled Miracast from build prop, it will attempt to connect as the screen goes black on the Dock the phone force reboots. No idea whats causing it. Attached is the logcat, if anyone can look at it and assist I would be grateful.
If you need more info from a logcat just tell me what I missed. I refuse to give up on this and will continue researching and tinkering.
Also gonna try some Treble GSI's see if they work. Starting with AOKP
I downgraded my Razer phone to the 7.1.1 Android version and I STILL can't get this thing to work with the HP lapdock. Tried using the usb-c cable it shipped with, tried using a thunderbolt 3 cable...only the keyboard will work. The screen and track-pad are a no-go. The Galaxy S9 works with little fuss, so I know it's no a problem on the lapdock's end.
Ugh. I just want this thing to work.
i have a mate 20 pro, blackscreen with cable an no connection with wirelles. did someone get it to work?

I've recently bought a refurbished Lap dock from an italian seller on Ebay to use with my Blackberry Key2 (Android Oreo) and I must say it is a brilliant solution. I come from the Sentio Superbook, witch is also a very interesting solution, but the Lap dock is definitely better: screen, keyboard, touchpad have no comparison... The Sentio desktop app, anyway, works very well and offers an (almost) true desktop environment.
I haven't had any particolar problem connecting the lapdock to my smartphone, even if sometimes the screen doesn't light up, using the standard cable. I think the best way is to insert the usb c cable ony after the screen is showing the two connection options, first in the lapdock and then in the smartphone. Key presses in the touchpad don't work, but gestures are just fine once you get used to them.
I've also tried the wireless connection using the Miracast app: recognizes the screen, but the touchpad doesn't work and the keyboard is double typing every character. So basically it is useless. Hope it can help someone...

Was wondering if you ever got this to work?
no sorry, never got it working. would have been great. Maybe with some other lapdock in the future.
So it works with the Razer 1 through the cable? I have the lapdock and I'm shopping for a new phone but I'm not interested in the Note 9 which is supposed to work great with the lapdock as well.

It doesn't work wonderfully, YouTube can't run some of the time, and the audio doesn't work at all really. Just through head phones. Even with the new Dex updates. But it is fine in a pinch.

Help me XDA you are my only hope

So dropped my phone, screen cracked(The Plexiglas had enough and couldn't save it this time) at first the top half of phone was working but on the side whatever liquid solution was used started leaking under the screen, screen turned blue purplish then black and eventually covered 95% of the screen. spent hours trying to at least remote into it but with debugging not enabled and it seems impossible. Tried to cast it but the cast option is on the side of the phone that the touch screen is not working. Tried using data recovery to at least recover my data i can't find a legit one to use, they one that seems legit don't have oneplus device as an option. Can try and find a data recovery specialist but i know they will charge me out the a** for it and i have sensitive info and such and not really all that comfortable with living data with a random person. Can anyone help or have any suggestions? am running out of hope at this point and if i can't get anything here then will have to come to grips with it. if anyone can suggest a way to enable debugging am all ears....or eyes in this case.
If I were in your situation I would replace the broken parts and get my phone up and running. You can buy low quality replacements to make it work if your only aim is to get your data out. I couldn't read the whole thing with all my attention so there might be things that I missed. As I understood your screen is the only problem. You can find a cheap screen and plug that into your device. Another option might be (I don't know if this will work) buying a Type-C to HDMI adaptor to plug your phone to a display. With that you don't need to wirelessly cast you can just use a cable. Better yet you can buy a Type-C hub while you're at it and connect a mouse and a keyboard to do everything you need to do. But I don't know if the HDMI option will work.
EDIT: This guy makes it happen. I don't know if OP will support it. If you buy a Type-C hub with USB ports and HDMI port, you can use your phone as if it never broke, get whatever you need to get out of it.
Video doesn't wanna be on XDA for some reason
