You can use AT&T, T-Mobile, and GT-N7105...just flash the correct CSC files.

CSC files don't matter; what you need is the correct modem. I restored a Nandroid of my AT&T Note 2 onto my T-Mobile Note 2 and it worked perfectly fine. Modems aren't included in a backup, so there's nothing to worry about.

can you also use the ATT gnote2 on Tmobile with everything working i.e calls, sms, mms , web , LTE 4g fully working ? would imagine you could

I have both the AT&T and T-Mobile version. Out of the box, the AT&T version doesn't do AWS (1700 MHz), HOWEVER, there's an extremely simple mod to activate it (it's supported, just turned off internally). It doesn't even require root or a custom ROM, and there's no way to tell it's been done (aside from you start getting HSPA+). Then you'll be able to get HSPA+ on T-Mobile just like the T-Mobile version does. However, LTE for T-Mobile works out of the box.

Well, the only two national GSM carriers in the country are AT&T and T-Mobile. Aside from that there are regional carriers and MVNO's (networks that piggyback off of T-Mobile/AT&T). You're free to use any GSM network. It's not like CDMA where you're stuck with the carrier the phone is for, unless you do some extremely flashing. With GSM, everything just works.

99.9% of the time, no. If they're AROMA-installer based, they usually ask you what modem you want to flash or if you want to keep your current one. Just be aware that reflashing even the one that's already on the device means you have to reapply the mod.

So like I have an att note 2 but am using it for T-Mobile, can I just flash a T-Mobile ROM so I can use WiFi calling?
So basically WiFi calling on an Att note 2 unlocked for T-Mobile.

Yes. I did that, and now I'm doing the same on my AT&T S4.

Just don't flash the tmobile modem on your at&t device. You will have problems.

Yup. But you can enable AWS with a separate mod if you want. If you already get 4G where you are, you don't really need it though.

Do you know if flashing ROM, flashes the modem also? Or is it separate?

Yeah. What happens is the phone will show no signal in the signal bar (which is normal), but will also show a blue wifi calling icon in the notification bar to let you know it's working. Custom ROMs usually don't have a modem included; if they do, they usually give you the option to keep the one already on your phone.

Flash Tmobile ROM on AT&T or vice versa - Future Proofing the best!

So I've read thru many threads on here and found people that seemed to have flashed their tmobile ROM onto their AT&T device in order to get proper 3G+ speeds.
1) Does this actually work?
2) Is it better to flash the other way (if possible, AT&T rom onto Tmobile) in order to get maximum service from both phones? What is the best/better phone to purchase for future LTE future proofing?

I am also on the t-mobile Q&A section looking for answers... the best phone for future proof and LTE is the AT&T version... no doubt... now... I am waiting for an AT&T Stock Rooted WITH MODEM included in the same flash zip before I begin testing myself... I already ordered from ebay a dual sim card adapter for the Note 2, and the Note 2 is already unlocked... so... any news on this would be great...
I just flashed Tmobile Jedi X3 with my att note 2...all working perfectly....the steps I took was just to flash rom and one of our att kernels and youll be fine...didnt have to flash modem....just put my straight talk apn in done....Everything perfect...btw jedi X3 is super fast....:good::highfive:

Sounds like you might be in the same boat as me. Anxious to get a Note II but not sure which network to commit to with it. Your comment about needing to get a TMo ROM to get "proper 3G+ speeds" is disconcerting. It also pushes me a bit towards TMo since it's got the LTE radio promised for future update.
What exactly is wrong with the stock device's 3G+ speeds on AT&T?
Where I live and work (Los Angeles area - San Fernando & Santa Clarita valleys), LTE's not activated, and no firm date when it will come our way. AT&T's HSPA data speeds here aren't anything to write home about, but neither are TMo's when I tested one of their devices in the local shop. My AT&T phone is lucky to get 4Mb/s down, 0.2Mb/s up, and generally only about 2-3Mb/s down. The TMo Galaxy SIII I tested got 4MB/s down. Hard numbers to swallow when I've got an SIII on VZW LTE pulling down 20Mb/s in the same area.

I need clarification on this. Just because the ROM flashed worked, doesn't necessarily mean the proper AWS radio's were activated to attain 4G speeds that are required on T-mobile (this is nothing to do with LTE).
Are you saying that by flashing the tmobile ROM onto your at&t note 2, you are able to attain all connections (not just Edge, but HSPA+ 4G) with your AT&T device to tmobile using AWS? I know Tmobile has begun refarming out to 4G on a different band that is compatible with more handsets, so you might just be in an area where they have already done so, which mistakes you into believing that you are actually connecting via the old school AWS Tmobile bands, when you aren't.
I really need to decide which phone I want to take the risk on - The tmobile LTE is locked apparently, doesn't seem to show as many capable bands as the AT&T version, and also, I'm not sure what to bank on in terms of there being a software vs hardware lock (Would be nice if the tmobile can be unlocked via software to fully operate on all LTE modes that the AT&T supports).
I'm actually in Canada, and would probably end up needing to purchase the Wind version in order to get what I'm looking for (since Wind operates on the same AWS frequencies as tmobile). But losing out on Bell/Rogers/Telus LTE in the process is just something I don't want to do either.
Going to have to see what can be unlocked via software on all these different phones................
I would also appreciate a response from someone if this is possible... using T-Mobile ROM and modem to work on At&t (with aws frequencies).... just like the S2 I717 mod which after flashing was working with aws frequencies....

Yes... it should... as soon as I get my dual sim card adapter for the Note 2... I will post a million results/combinations here on T-Mobile and AT&T forums... I just don't want to open the back cover 30 times a day and swap sims a bunch of times... with the adapter I just insert the 2 sim cards and done... testing all the way from that point on...

I have the SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 from AT&T, unlocked via unlock code from AT&T. No root, stock AT&T android 4.1.1. I got the t-mobile microSIM card with an unlimited talk and 2GB unlimited data plan, but I can not get tmobile 3G/4G working reliably. I get HSDPA/HSPAP/UMTS/EDGE randomly. 80% EDGE, 20% high speed between 4-8mbps down, 0.7-1.9mbps up. I am in Los Angeles, CA.
I know my SGH-I317 does not have the 1700MHz antenna needed for t-mobile 3G/4G data, but somehow I get 3G/4G 20% of the time. I have not adjusted any special settings on my phone, other than to reset the APN to default epc .tmobile .com. My guess I am getting 3G/4G via the 2100MHz antenna for download, but without the 1700MHz for fast upload, I get 0.7-1.9mbps only. But most of the time I am stuck at EDGE.
So has anyone gotten the AT&T Note II to reliably work on t-mobile 3G/4G? is there a special setting I need to enter on my phone? does flashing the t-mobile ROM on the AT&T phone solve any of the 3G/4G issue? or will I lose the unlock on my phone when I root or when I flash t-mobile ROM on my AT&T Note 2?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hey I got a unlocked & Rooted At&t Note 2 on T-mobile running CleanRom with perfect 4g. Before I rooted my phone I changed my phones modem to T-mobiles because I only had edge. After that I have flashed several different At&t Roms and still have 4g. On speed test I get about 7-9mbs download and 2-3 mbs on upload not the best but way better than edge

I am actually using the CleanROM 4.5 (haven't flashed 4.6.1 as I do not see much new on that ROM). I am actually using it on the stock kernel because I am not a huge flasher like many of the members here. Since Note 2 is my daily driver, I don't want to keep updating it and customize it after each ROM flashing. I like the CleanROM 4.5 since it was the way I got it and I just updated to the new version. The battery life is pretty good as I can last a day or more with moderate use.

Yea im the same way. You have an At&t note 2 too?
yep using ATT Note 2 on TMo's network.

T-Mobile and AT&T Note 2 cross-compatibility

After a pretty serious amount of searching, I still haven't been able to find a straightforward explanation of what works on which Note 2 on which network as far as 3G/4G service goes. (There was only one that came close, and it still didn't seem to actually be complete.) While the consensus seems to be that the T-Mo phone is the most flexible, what I've been able to cobble together is that the answer is much closer to "depends on what you want to use it for." (Duh, right?) So here's what I understand so far -- please feel free to correct me if I have any of this wrong, and I'll update (or if you think carriers/devices should be added to the list, comment with sources and I'll add on the info):
----
T-Mo T889 (stock unlocked): up to 42 MBps DC-HSPA+ on T-Mobile network (1900MHz); up to HSPA on AT&T network (trying to verify)
AT&T i317 (stock, unlocked): LTE on 700MHz on AT&T network (and future AWS when AT&T gets around to deploying); EDGE on T-Mobile network
T889 with T-Mo LTE unlock (est. Spring 2013): may possibly also enable LTE on AT&T network.
T889 with flashed AT&T radio (or NV partition edit): unknown -- no success to date. Hypothesized that it may enable LTE on AT&T network.
i317 with flashed T889 radio (or NV partition edit): loses AT&T LTE capability; gains HSPA+ (non-DC) on T-Mobile network (DC yet to be verified?)
No idea as to what would happen if/when an i317 can be flashed with a post-Spring 2013 T-Mo radio.
----
So the conclusions I seem to draw from this are:
If you want guaranteed highest speeds out of either service today, and some possibility of T-Mo LTE support in the future, get the AT&T phone and get used to playing around with radio swaps.
If you want the guaranteed highest speed out of T-Mo in a few months (and now, obviously), and some possibility of getting the highest speed out of AT&T (aka LTE) whenever xda-developers' ingenuity figures it out, get the T-Mo phone.
How does this sound to you guys?

Short answer, AT&T Note 2 can get full speed HSPA+ on T-Mobile and LTE on AT&T... I currently have it that way... You need to activate AWS bands on NV partition... I also have the T889 and the T889 can do the same... Remember what I have been telling since day 1... They are both the same phone... Just with different signals pre activated by their respective carriers...

As I understand it the note 2 is the first phone to have all the different model have the same physical design and the software is very close to the same as well. I beleive that there are two internatinal ones the gsm and lte. All the us versions are based off the lte one so they are all very similar. I think we even have a few roms in the dev section now that are based off sprints rom. I could be wrong though. I was a little confused at first because usually on tmo our phone would be based off the gsm interntinal but not this time.
I gotta say I am really happy with samsung. And I am impressed with what they have accomplished with this phone and the sgs3. They told the carriers to go to hell and did it their way this time. I think they were able to do it because android is like 60% of the worlds cell phone market and samsung is like 75% of android sales. I am sure the numbers are off but I remember reading about that last year. Sorry to go off topic a little bit.

Uh, that's his point. And mine, for that matter. AT&T only so far - meaning my OP is currently correct. Nobody has done it on T-Mo (at least that has reported it here). "Hardware is the same," yeah, we all know that, but we also know the software isn't, so it's a matter of what we've actually tried and succeeded with and have confirmation of.
When somebody actually reports a success with T-Mo they can confirm, I'll update.

Sorry, poor assumption on your part. I found that. Did you read past the first post? First post says DC works (which was an edit, apparently yesterday) but post 3 says it only indicates DC, no actual speed bump to DC or 42 speeds. Lots of failures on that thread too. So I listed what worked for the OP. If you'd like to confirm dual-5MHz operation (which you didn't explicitly when you posted your success in that post), maybe some screenshots of the speed change if you have them, that should be fine and I'll edit.

Right, like I said, as soon as someone's actually done it successfully I'll update.
I can add the NV method to the radio method, I suppose, since both seem to work on AT&T.

Posts like yours aren't much better than trolling. What did it add to the conversation? Search for what?
If you'd actually searched and read the numerous threads across both the i317 and T889 forums, including both the General and Q&A sections, like I have, you'd see multiple claims of it works, or it doesn't work, and varying methods described with people saying they work and don't work. TEKHD has bounced back and forth multiple times on this, along with a few others.
I was just asking for clarification that this was done on a T889 or not, since TEKHD said in the post I was replying to that it does, but in the thread he linked he said it didn't.
This is a T889 forum, isn't it? What do the users of the T889 care about an i317 hack unless the same hack will work for us?
LTE on T889 Phone
Searched and found conflicting repoerts. Is it possible to get the LTE working on AT&T using the Tmobile T889 model of the note 2?
It is thought so, but no one's done it yet.

Ah ok... so i just got ATT today and am using it on my tmobile note 2. DO I need to do anything at all to be getting the best speeds or is it getting the fastest it can right now until someone gets LTE working>?
I hope you guys can help me, I'm frustrated already, I bought an AT&T SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 and also purchased an unlock code, phone was working just fine with 4g on AT&T ( Tested ) but after unlocking I just don't get service when I use a T Mobile or Simple Mobile SIM.
On the About Phone -> Status I do get "Network: T-Mobile/Simple Mobile" ( Depending on the SIM I use ), but I don't even get EDGE, I cant make calls, I get the annoying emergency calls only, its making me crazy. Is there a way to fix this issue?
( I already added the APN settings, but im sure I don't need that to make calls, or get EDGE, I don't know what else to do to fix this ).
Thanks
maybe try factory reset? Possibly flash a different modem as well.

Factory reset would do nothing, the phone connects to AT&T with no problems, 4G and everything, but not even EDGE on T Mobile.
You already have a thread asking that question. .alot of people get mad when you clutter the forums.

HELP so confused =[
I have a TMobile Note 2 N-7100, its now unlocked to use with my AT&T sim. it shows that i have 4G speeds, i am searching the threads and getting mixed messages about enabling LTE. i came across this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041 but it was non-specific about working on At&t, even though if it works which i have not yet confirmed is there another way to enable it without running the risk of "bricking" my phone?

Im confused... do you have a T-mobile Note 2? or a N7100? I beleieve the N7100 is the AWS International one, the Tmobile Note 2 is T889... or you could have an N7100 ROM flashed on a T889 (which existed in order to get 4.1.2 before the Tmo release).

LTE on Canadian Note2

I was wondering if there is a way to get LTE enabled on a canadian Note 2 now that T-mobile enabled LTE on their version. I'm on the videotron version running on Fido/rogers
Hello fellow canadian, I flashed just the new modem, enabled lte though *#2263# menu. And my data speeds are great. I am on Telus.

oh man that sucks. yeah mine is a t889V also, 'cept i'm running on fido. It sucks having an LTE capable phone on an LTE capable network but not having LTE -.-

If you haven't already, check out these threads:

The first one has an IMEI repair tool that might help.
Here are the stock T889, stock T889V and my post-repair T889V NV-reader-writer txt format NV items backups, with removed IMEIs of course. They might also come in handy.
Good luck,

So that makes at least a second LTE-enabled T889V out there. Good. I'll PM you my draft guide, maybe we can compare notes (pun intended) and have a proper procedure to publish. I haven't made anything too public because either my would-be testers changed their minds, or did not update me at all.

So you reflashed the LTE modem and it is running fine? or you went back to the HSPA+ one. Right now I am on T889UVALL4. To scared to flash back the LTE one. Maybe when I get more time to deal with a loss of imei again I will try the LTE one again.
Update: Flashed the Tmobile LTE modem again and is running fine thus far.

is there any chance of having tutorial made? i just have a videotron t889v phone running on bell now, but no LTE. and as stated, it sucks having an LTE able phone with no LTE lol
thanks!
Not much of a guide really out there. I flashed the tmobile modem for lte, lost my imei, managed to restore it and now have lte. Although I am now stuck with a tmobile modem. If I flash a t889v modem I go into a boot loop. Think it would be best to wait until there is a proper way of getting it done.

are you on a canadian carrier? I want LTE for bell on this phone.... it doesnt matter if i lose the wind, videtron and moblicity compatability as only videotron is available where i live, and they're no good for me.
Yes im on Telus. Check your pm.
You don't even have to lose AWS DC-HSPA as I found out last December after dropping by a Videotron kiosk. This was further confirmed by Sjravi's tutorial to enable AWS on the I317.
i have just 1 question, is your battery life the same after you enabled LTE? now i can go about 1-2 days with heavy usage on my phone without having to charge it. just wondering before i jump in....
I've modded my phone early enough that I don't have much basis for comparison, but I have no issue going through a heavy usage day with plenty to spare. Trying two might be pushing it, but I've done it with low usage days. YMMV.

With just the lte modem I have not noticed much if any battery drain. Am getting some crazy fast download/upload speeds...
and it shows LTE next to the signal bars?
No I dont have the lte icon, not included in this rom. But when I go to about phone status It shows lte. Getting 42mbps down and 21 up

[Q] going from att to T-Mobile

So I'm trading with my mother her T-Mobile sim for mine. She's going to take over my contact from Att and I'll take hers. Reason is her job well pay her bill but they want Att for some weird reason Lol. And i want the unlimited data with T-Mobile. So my question is once I unlock both phones, well I still be able to use my current rom? witch is avatar latest with KKO kennel. Would I just use an T-Mobile modem and radio or just stick with the Att radio/modem?

yea ROM shouldnt matter. Its all about the baseband or modem. Might want to hop over to the T mobile forums and ask them. Another thing you want to do with your AT&T Note is hack it so you can use T Mobiles AWS bands. The Chip in our phones is disabled right now but we have the hardware to use the T mobile bands.

Yea I'm going to. I seen an thread bought the aws band witch I plan on doing. I'm actually kinda glad my mother wants to switch the 3gb data is kinda killing me Lol. But I think an Att radio/modem should be just fine or i could be wrong.
It's actually very easy to enable the AWS band on the AT&T Note 2. T-Mobile LTE works out of the box, but for 3G (HSPA+), you need to flash a file from your computer. You don't have to be rooted though. It shouldn't void your warranty either or trip the flash counter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041

Flashing another Note 2's radio (as in another carrier's/model's) to your AT&T Note 2 can actually damage it. Not physically, but you'll lose your IMEI for example and probably get stuck in a bootloop. Stick with AT&T modems. You have to reapply that flash from your computer any time you flash or reflash a modem though. But seeing as how most custom ROMs don't come with a modem, you won't be doing that often anyways.

Yea that make perfect sense. If im understanding corectly, since im going to be sticking with this rom for awhile. Once i do the aws band mod all i got to do is put the sim card in and i should be good to go.

Yes. Although you can change ROMs freely. This mod will stick until you flash a different modem (which is separate from a ROM), at which point you just flash it again.

Yes. Modems rarely need to be changed and are in a separate file 99% of the time. Kernels and ROMs and anything else can be changed as many times as you want.
What area are you in? You might see how it works stock unlocked on the refarming first. I'm quite happy with how my i717 does in Chicago.

I have a verizon note 3. I am on tmobile now. Using a jelly bean rom, I have everything working except for wi fi calling? Anyone know how to get it? or how to load a tmobile rom on the verizon note 3?

where you able to get wifi calling? do you have a link to the rom you used?

Verizon has world phones, that have some GSM capabilities, they also have SIM cards, because LTE is GSM tech and SIM is part of LTE specs, so yeah it should work at least on some frequencies. The only ROM that has WiFi calling, as far as I know is T-mo. There was some guy claiming he loaded pretty much all different ROM's he could get into his Note and it worked, but don't remember details, do search maybe in International Note 3 forum and see if T-mo is mentioned. Not sure if you care, but right now loading ROM's could trigger Knox flag, so maybe research this before hand and I have a feeling soon we may have some new breakthrough, when loading any ROMS is no problem, but not sure if Knox flag can ever be reversed, once tripped, there is no way for now.
BTW I'm not sure if you're aware, once you have WiFi calling, you can call home from around the World on WiFi for free. Don't let other people call you, but you can make free international calls home as long as you're on WiFI. It does not work for local calls. That is outside the new international calling plan T-mo has.
My Verizon Note 3 worked somewhat on T-Mobile
I had my Verizon Note 3 functional on T-Mobile for about a week but ended up buying a used T-Mobile Note 3 after having random service issues. With the correct APN settings on the V Note 3, 4G worked and I was able to browse just fine but the phone was not reliable. Quite often after making a call, it would switch away from 4G (sometimes to Edge) and would take minutes to re-establish a reliable data connection on 4G. During this time, whether it was possible to make another call was a hit or miss. Even when it said 3g, or Edge, calling was sometimes not possible. Usually I would wait a while before trying again. Data was in and out at times. I was on the latest official Android release: 4.4.4. And other users with T-Mobile phones were not having similar issues in the same location so I know it was not location specific.
I thought about downgrading to another rom and rooting, then enabling LTE band 4, but I wasn't sure that would fix the service-related issues. Now with the T-Mobile version, I have zero service problems. We had a similar experience on T-mobile with a Verizon Galaxy S5 and after getting the T-Mobile version, the problems were fixed.
So, IMO, the V Note 3 does work on GSM networks like T-Mobile. How reliable it works compared to the other Carrier specific models is debatable.
