Sell lappy for gs4 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Just wondering how many of you think you could live without a computer and only use a gs4.
Thats what I'm thinking of doing. I was also wondering is tmobiles prepaid $70 unlimited plan truely unlimited??
Thank you!

While I'm not sure that selling a laptop to get a S4 is the best idea, you will be losing a lot of function (at least for me) such as better browsing, gaming, writing papers for school, and much more so that might not be you, as for the unlimited data, there is no throttling and I've used about 22 gigs of data and no slowdowns

If you want to root, your going to need your laptop. And if you get the boot loop bug like I did your going to need to use Odin to get it back. So a computer is a must in my opinion.

Wanna have your shot at TRULY UNLIMITED UNTHROTTLED data on T-Mobile USA?

This trick has been around for a while. I have been using it since the G2x days and haven't abandoned it yet. It works on my GS2 and it has been working on my Galaxy Nexus as well. Create a new APN with the exact same settings as I post here. I am still working to find out what (if anything) needs to be changed on the MMS end but thought I'd go ahead and share this. Enjoy!
*Disclaimer* This will not work for everyone! You could possibly still get throttled. In my personal experience, it stops my data counter altogether. For other people, they just go beyond the throttle threshold. Find out where you stand. **HINT** I'd recommend only changing to this once you're nearing the end of your cycle and before you are throttled.
Has anyone given this a try yet? I'd like to know how you guys are fairing on speed tests? I have been seeing better speeds with this apn at my apartment which is kinda like a big bunker. Lol.
It works on my gs2

Lol, I don't want to broadcast faster speeds on the new apn but as far as my apartment goes - they are faster. (Then again, I don't really ever use my cellular data at home anyway.) I just like to put a much larger emphasis on avoiding being throttled!
This is bull****.
Last night I burned through my 5GBs. Now the internet feels slower than a 56K modem.
Today, I tried this "trick", same speeds....

You do it before being throttled. Not after. Don't call it bull**** because you didn't follow directions. It's funny how I and other people have plenty of success with this but you, the person who fails to follow directions, comes in here to act like it doesn't work. One of the most important things to do when doing most anything on xda is read and follow directions.

Well, some people fly under the radar. Some people get throttled eventually. Lastly, some people get throttled like normal. Trying it out isn't for the feint of heart because you never know which one you'll be until you try.
This is why I recommend trying it near the end of your cycle so you don't have much to lose. Sometimes sim swapping helps too.

It's great to hear it's helped you out thus far. Were you purposely trying to get that high at first? Lol. I know the whole trial and error thing sucks but sometimes it pays off. Depending on how far you're in, you might be completely clear and can go data crazy.

word, good lookin out, been on tmo website the past few days bout to pull the trigger but the 2 year reup kept me from it, the positive input makes me think i can possibly kill the home wifi thru clear aka sprint and their lil 6mb up more like 2 at best 4g wifi hotspot unit. the only thing ill give the clear hotspot cred on, ive used that thing to some insane #s on classes up at the local juco and had other kids on to max out all 8 hookups and never been throttled...not that theres much wiggle room for them to throttle, and im talkin some sick monthly usage GBs lol not that i care about the students but ive been known to cloud transfer my entire harddrive from one of my laptops in KC to my vegas locale, and lets just say the ol tmo 10gb/mo plan has been throttled on me b4 with oh 3 and a half weeks b4 my billing cycle was up lol thanks for the heads up

I read a huge thread explaining all the fine print about tethering. But even worse, Verizon and att MUST allow free tethering as said by the FCC. I'm honestly thinking about researching everything getting all the details sorted out and bringing it forth to the FCC. Cause apparently the way they tell if you're tethering is by packet sniffing. And from what I understand, that's illegal period. Even if it's included in the TOS. That's my private data they are sniffing.

I am thinking to just upgrade from SGSII to the newest II; i like the fact the screen is more crispy; at least what i saw in store. With my SII in 11 month I never had problems with thetering but I only have used it to connect to internet my laptop at work to read email or to the company web portal for ticketing closing and management, only few minutes at the time..
I really don't know if the jump is worthy...I got old Juggernaut v3.7 on my SGSII...had it for 11 months now..if i upgrade, will pay full price for the III.

Question for you all: truly unlimited throttle

So about mud day yesterday, I was watching YouTube, all of a sudden everything started buffering no matter what video I watched. Downloaded a couple files and speeds were only 30kB/s. Didn't think anything of it. Thought it was the host. Didn't do much else but use tapatalk and noticed things were a but slow. Did a speed test and it shot up to like 300kB/s then hovered around 30-50kB/s felt that awfully strange.. as that's what would happen on my old throttle plan.
So I went to bed not thinking of it.
Got up this morning and speeds were the same. Stayed the same for the entire day til I got fed up and called T-Mobile. They "said" I wasn't being throttled. And after I *****ed they "reset" my phone on their network and things were back to normal.
Has anyone else experienced like symptoms? I'd hate to think they went this low to throttle us..
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Are you sure you have the truly unlimited 4G plan... Or the unlimited data with let's say 2gb, 5gb or 10gb of 4G data.
If you have the truly unlimited data then you shouldn't be throttled. But if you have one of the other three plans where they cap the 4G data then they throttle you after that certain point.
Or maybe t mobile was having issues with your tower and had to reset the connection?

17 gigs? I really don't see how most people can go over 5 without tethering. I use my phone constantly and I've never gone over 2. Even with what I use on wifi, which might be another 2gb, is still not even 5gb's. So, I can only ASSUME you have been tethering, and they figured it out. That would explain the throttle.

You get 100 uses of tethering anyhow. Then they block you. But as psykhotic said get Netflix and watch HD movies and then tell me how much data you use. Not to mention you can download torrents via your phone. And I never use WiFi except for when transferring files to my phone.
But irregardless, it's unlimited, there shouldn't be a throttle period.

No not 100 uses of tethering.
You can use 100 MB before the block you if you already used the work around on the software they have on the phone.
The program by default on the phone though will actually block you right away.
Unless you use a custom APN then you get blocked after 100 MB.
If you change your User Agent on your browser the the User agent of the phone and you won't get blocked.

Soooo.... why not factory reset while on wifi? I don't understand why people treat the network as a substitute for a home network?
And streaming music doesn't use that much data, you'd have to watch 8 or 10 movies on Netflix to hit a gig. Don't tell me you watch 10 movies a week on your phone. I feel sorry for your eyes.
It is the abuse of the system that will do nothing but raise data rates for all of us. Thanks alot people, enjoy your rerun's of Charles in Charge.
Netflix even on the phone does use more then that. A 2 hour movie would be about 600 mb for that one move.

ummm...here's the question you need to ask yourself (speaking to OP)....
are you a big media, music person? if not, then absolutely get it.
if you are, don't waste your time. there is not external storage (no micro sd) support on the nexus 4... huge fail IMO. i would have been all over that. just really didn't feel like using up all my storage by simply transferring all of my ***t to my new device. what is this an android/iPhone? i was confused by that feature being absent. i guess they can't give you EVERYTHING... but that is a big thing to exclude IMO.
fail.

yeah sure... cloud storage is great if you have a 42 MBs connection everywhere you go. you can't depend on your data connection 100% of the time. and how many people have unlimited data? if you don't have unlimited data plans, forget it. you gonna throw your entire hard drive of movies on your cloud? no thanks.
i see your point..But I can just do one movie delete then another and then delete why keep a bunch of movies on your device (unless you are going on a long trip or something)

and it becomes more of a real issue if you are somebody who has a vast music collection.... i would rather not pick and choose on a weekly basis what music and movies i have to keep or delete on my device. that's what micro SD cards are for.... they remove the requirement to even have to think about it. it's just there. all the time. at your fingertips. right when you want it.

P.S. This thread is ridiculous not only can't I believe it's creation but also that the mods haven't shut it down yet or moved it!!!
I love my SGS3, but the Nexus 4 is tempting. The lack of SD card storage may be the deal breaker.
OK my opinion is this. I first got the g2x and went through about 5 of them because of screen issues and random reboots. Samsung Galaxy Galaxy S3, 0 returns. Solid phone works perfect, I can't complain. I remember my brother told me that LG makes awesome televisions and my response to him was then they should stick to that. Again this is my opinion it's all up to you. But after my experience with LG, I would not purchase another phone from them again. Good luck.

If you're talking about getting a s3 thru tmobile's deal with the mail in rebates, you might want to make sure that they don't require you keep the device until the mail in rebate is cleared and received.

So here is a screenshot of how much data I used so far

Here is a screenshot of how much data I have used so far and still got 7 more days to go... Do you think att is going to do something or say something? :/

I used that much a few months ago, didn't have unlimited data and ended up paying over $500.

If you are tethering: they may threaten to kick you off unlimited.
If you aren't: they probably won't say/do anything, at least based on how they've handled things so far.

Apparently you get throttled on speed after 5 gBs on LTE soooo but they won't say anything.. Have you noticed a speed hit in the last 46 GB?? (lol )
GOOD GRAVY !!
No wonder my LTE speed sucks so bad...it's your phone sucking all the bandwidth......LOL...g

Ouch.....that bites...g
Whatever it is, they're definitely going to do something.. Either throttle you if you're grandfathered on unlimited or $4-500 in overage on a tiered plan.

Well if they have not throttled him and he only has 7 days left in his cycle, he may get throttled for 7 days.. but it resets when his cycle does so i think hes good to go... (as long as hes Grandfather'd on an unlimited plan that is lol)
Good lord. I'm grandfathered into an unlimited plan and I still get leery when I approach 5GB. Guess I can lighten up a bit and see what the actual limit is.

And people wonder why providers are tight with data usage?
I think I've approached 5 gb maybe twice.

On Verizon, and on average, I use about 40gb a month. Been this way for awhile and never had any trouble.
I'm not sure about this guy but I have no choice. My phone is my internet for my whole family. It's this or dial up. Luckily I have great 4g and unlimited data.
I usually keep my data usage hush hush because people react so negativity to it. I pay my bills. I buy all my devices full price. I'm gonna use my data.

In light of recent events of tech companies giving away my data, I have zero qualms about using the hell out of their data.

Wow are you running a server from your phone lol
Hahah yea I'm on the grandfathered unlimited. I have been switching my APNs around and found that I got my lte speeds back but recently they throttled me to around 400-500kbs. not a big deal really since I use my phone like a laptop anyways and I still get to do everything I want with those speeds. Just takes some patience for Netflix or videos to load though.

Perhaps this is silly to ask but I'm not going to assume anything - have you gone through that much data without tethering? If so, that is quite a feat!

Ya that would be impressive. I never tether and my record is 16 GB.

Definitely tethering. We don't have internet at our apartment so I tether. Mostly streaming. Heh heh

I've hit 150~GB without tethering. Constant pirating and/or having something (music, Facebook, Google+ picture uploads, DropBox, Box, etc.) use my data 24/7. My passive aggressive way of telling AT&T that I will not be denied my data usage even when throttled at 5GB.

Wow. If I were AT&T I wouldn't even be mad. That's amazing.
