word, good lookin out, been on tmo website the past few days bout to pull the trigger but the 2 year reup kept me from it, the positive input makes me think i can possibly kill the home wifi thru clear aka sprint and their lil 6mb up more like 2 at best 4g wifi hotspot unit. the only thing ill give the clear hotspot cred on, ive used that thing to some insane #s on classes up at the local juco and had other kids on to max out all 8 hookups and never been throttled...not that theres much wiggle room for them to throttle, and im talkin some sick monthly usage GBs lol not that i care about the students but ive been known to cloud transfer my entire harddrive from one of my laptops in KC to my vegas locale, and lets just say the ol tmo 10gb/mo plan has been throttled on me b4 with oh 3 and a half weeks b4 my billing cycle was up lol thanks for the heads up

I read a huge thread explaining all the fine print about tethering. But even worse, Verizon and att MUST allow free tethering as said by the FCC. I'm honestly thinking about researching everything getting all the details sorted out and bringing it forth to the FCC. Cause apparently the way they tell if you're tethering is by packet sniffing. And from what I understand, that's illegal period. Even if it's included in the TOS. That's my private data they are sniffing.

Well, one still can resource to connect via VPN..
I am thinking to just upgrade from SGSII to the newest II; i like the fact the screen is more crispy; at least what i saw in store. With my SII in 11 month I never had problems with thetering but I only have used it to connect to internet my laptop at work to read email or to the company web portal for ticketing closing and management, only few minutes at the time..
I really don't know if the jump is worthy...I got old Juggernaut v3.7 on my SGSII...had it for 11 months now..if i upgrade, will pay full price for the III.

I have been downloading ROMS all evening. At 3 gigs so far and no cut off yet. rooted stock

Get unlimited data on your VZW NEXUS

So if your like me and are/were constantly checking your data usage... don't worry b/c there is a trick to getting unlimited data! Its a very simple procedure if it works...
1st call vzw customer svc, then when the computer csr asks you what you want to do say "add a feature"
2nd it will direct you to a live agent then simply say you would like to add the "30$ Mobile hot spot feature"
this feature is for unlimited data plans so if you can get the CSR to add the feature your data plan will change to a unlimited plan! No joke I did this 2 days ago. And yes you will need to remove the 30$ mobile hot spot from your plan, and yes your new data plan will stay activated.
And remember if at first you don't succeed with the first CSR agent... try and try again, I got it on my second call in.
Good luck

They have the right to change it any time they want. Unless you signed a contract that specifically gives you the right to unlimited data on their network they can remove the unlimited data feature, especially considering you tricked their system to get it.

No, it is not. Although they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone they want (whether that be now, or at the end of the contract period).

It's not the CSR's fault. They're only adding the WiFi Hotspot feature as they're supposed to do.
You're removing the hotspot feature later on your own without the CSR's involvement.

Tethering is still working for me after I made the switch yesterday. Hopefully I don't get charged though.. even though I don't use tether, it's good to know that everything works on my phone. How would i know I'm being charged for it? I didn't receive any "warning" popups or anything like that before continuing.. do I just have to wait for my next bill??
I wonder if they can develop some methods that could detect your tethering and block it?

but gosh Tmobile just got bad after they close the calls center with reps I had to talk to 4 people for one simple reason cause none of these new foreign knows what their talking about. so im not sure if i still have the tether will see.

Only by puting an APP on your device. I know a little bit about networking, and thats the only way. packets are packets. the user-agent is the only way to see what type of browser it is. but like i said before, a lot of android browsers use the desktop user agent.
But why would/should any carrier stop it? Especially if you are on a tiered plan. Its YOUR data, use it how YOU want. PERIOD. wethere you are streaming on your laptop, or streaming on your phone and using an MHL conector to your TV, its STILL streaming. Period.

I think he post just for fun nothing to do with proud thing
Cause I use more data than he does and not even one month.two more weeks left
I was pretty surprised that I've used close to amount (last I checked a few days ago, 50GB). No tethering no Torrenting. But it seems that the Gallery likes to use nearly 2GB of data in the background every time I set up a new ROM or Reflash. That plus all the Roms and re downloading of apps from the Store. And more recently, the purchase of a couple HD movies and a hand full of re downloads of the Avengers movie.
77Gb on HSPA+? Come to my area Whole brooklyn gets like 0-0.20Mbit, Loading Netflix or Youtube is virtually impossible here. Called T-mobile they said they're fixing tower, well 4 Months and still fixing it? Good thing I have pre-paid I can cancel any time

I don't use my data that much, maybe about 2GB a month, but I still hate the fact that every company want to charge for tier pricing. But the idea of the company able to charge for the service it doesn't do anything is insane. Sure if you want to let the company do so then go ahead, but then if you can do it yourself, then it become self service and you shouldn't have to pay. This is like they should be able to charge extra a month if you let you friend borrow your phone to make a call or to use 3rd party headset. Majority of people don't actually share the bandwidth with other people but rather to use the data of themself on another device.

If I remember correctly it, at least in previous flavors, has been in services.jar. But a lot of smali needs to take place in order for it to work, again the last time I messed with it though was back in the GB days.

What should I charge?

Hey guys,
Sprint just cancelled me for tethering and I'm just gonna go with a Nexus 4G so I want to sell my phone and accessories. I'm pissed I JUST bought my micro sd and anker batteries! The good part is the phone is a week old from an insurance claim so it's immaculate. Anyway, here's what I'm selling:
E4GT rooted w/latest Jellybean leak
2 Anker 1800m batteries w/external charger (also 3 days old)
Aegis Trident case black
Sandisk class 10 32GB micro SD.
What do you think?

Out of curiosity, did they cut you because of the data use from tethering or because of the tethering itself

We can't sell devices on here anymore, sorry bro. Figured I'd let you know before a moderator hit you with an infraction:beer:

He isn't explicitly asking to sell it here. His post is for information on a good price to sell for. He is in the clear as long as he doesn't try to sell it in the forums without moderator permission.

Yeah it wasn't my intention to sell on here. Probably Craig's list. Just trying to get an idea of what I should ask.

To be honest with those accessories and phone being in new condition you could score a good 210 at least and most 240 to 260$ depending on the person. I'm currently selling one for 150$ without accessories and a messed up ear phone jack on craigslist haha.

At first they said excessive roaming, but that was bs because I never leave home. So they investigated further and said it was due to "tethering without a tethering plan." No warning, nothing. I woke up and was shut off this morning. I love downloading full albums and movies. I suppose I could have challenged them for having "unlimited data" but screw it. I'll get a Nexus 4 off contract w/Tmo unlimited 70 bucks a month.

It was probably roaming while they are doing NV upgrades. If it was really for tethering you wouldn't have gotten out etf free. They would have either opted for you to add tethering or would have just added it to your next bill. What tethering app were u using?

I was using the Trevmod Wireless tether for root users. The real crappy part is my wife's epic touch didn't get shutoff (I have a family plan), and the account is mine. Wtf!!! I can at least tether off her for web at least.

Technically they can't tell you were tethering unless you were using the sprint hotspot. They can *claim* you were cuz of desktop protocols, but just tell em your browser on your phone is set to desktop user agent which uses the same protocols as your desktop browser. Most likely you were roaming due to the upgrades going on and whatever carrier you roamed on claimed you were tethering. At least you didn't have to pay the etf.

Being sprint axed you does your phone even have a clean ESN anymore?

I don't see why not. It's not like I owe them money. Here's the REAL funny part. My account was credited my 200 dollar deposit at 5 AM, and they cancelled my line today.

If one was to browse on say the galaxy tab 2 7.0, would it be impossible to tell if a person was tethering than? I'm assuming that the browser on the tab is similar to the browser on a phone, right?

Android to android is even more incognito than android to windows/linux/mac, but the more advanced phone browsers and apps become the harder it is to tell the difference between mobile and desktop data packets. I would say in the next 5 years all internet capable devices will be using almost identical protocols to access the web which means all data would look the same to anyone sniffing packets. I'm grandfathered in on an unlimited tethering plan on my work line and I use upwards of 100GBs a month on it for work and I tether my personal line (same account) to my tablet and laptop and have been for 3 years and sprint never says anything. Between the 5 lines on our account we average 250GB a month.

Just a quick ?, OP have you looked at your usage on sprint.com to see your roaming usage?? Just wondering if Sprint is about to crack down on tethering or if it was roaming which we all know they crack down on. Thanks for any info....and I wouldnt sell for less than $300 BTW but depends how quick you need the cash, think about the fact no one can get an android able to run jb on sprint for under $450 from retail.
