yea hopefullly somebody can tell us how to do that. i gave up on trying to configure the touch pad and went straight to FPSE which already configured :silly:
Go to ControllerX => Set "Pad Type PSX" to DualShock => Go to controllerX again => Controller X Map axis => Make sure that gamepad ID is xperiaplay => Analog Range - Circle => Left stick X - AXIS_X, Y - AXIS_Y; Right stick X - AXIS_RX, Y - AXIS_RY.
Done. Game must support DualAnalog/Shock controller.
Theoretically must work(i havent games, that support DShock).
Yeah well now Epsxe Does not recognize any button inputs. I give up.
But dude, seriously thanks for your reply
FPSE is a goot option if you need the touchpad fully working.
EpsxeE is good but didnt find a way to make the touchpad work, so sad n64oid dont support touchpad

Epsxe has touchpad support. You have to enable it yourself. Touchpad support is better on epsxe than fpse.

on GB.
In my opinion Fpse offer the best touchpad support and Epsxe its more fluid. I dont like how they implemented the touchpad in epsxe...epsxe sometimes it lose the button and doesnt press like it should (example on crash bandicoot and mosts of games i found it hard to play with analog when character use to walk instead of running)
I know it gets annoying to keep covering games but psx (the ps1 emulator built into the play seems to give me best response with touchpads as well as smooth gameplay. I don't really play ps1 games very much though so those who play them a lot might prefer the emulators

Has anyone been able to set this up?
I've tried playing Star Fox 64, a game I really want to work well, but I found the controls (the pads, not the D Pad) really hard for some reason.
Any else have this problem?
What emu are you using?

Mupen 64, as its the only one that supposed the analog pads.
The touchpads are broken for me except the joystick thats being emulated on the touchpad. The cbuttons are really broken on the touchpad.
I find touchpad for emulators on work with ICS or JB. I find touchpads in general to be terrible, I prefer an analog pushpads like on the iControlPad. Either that or I bind it to the dpad and set the C buttons to touchscreen.
user n64oid ,that is touchpad support on ICS
enable "external tecture " and load the teture that u want , it ROCKS !
well if you are on gb and you have the latest version of mupen64, i don't really know what to say. touchpads on that emu work fine for me, but on heavy games it's quite slow nonetheless. if this problem can't be sorted out via in-game options, i suggest using gamekeyboard + n64oid. i setup a profile last night, after many attempts i managed to get it almost perfect using gamekeyboard just for the touchpads, mapping the rest via the emulator itself. Mapping the c-buttons to one touchpad perfectly is hard since the emu doesn't let you put gamekeyboard onscreen when it is active. :\
This emu works fine for me too.... And Star Fox 64 is my favourite game....
May be a system or hardware issue??
Given N64 Controller has a ton of buttons and XPlay Pad has less, what is the most efficient way to enjoy playing N64 on Xperia Play? Would be cool if the Circle Pads worked that would help a lot.
Use mupen64 and map the hardware buttons as well as leaving the touch screen ones that aren't mapped activated that way you can use the main ones with the game pad and the minor buttons that aren't used as much with the touch screen

^ Good idea with the touch screen, I read mupen64 performance is lag than most, will have to give it a try though.
well mupen64 is the only emulator with working touchpads, with that you actually can map every button of the play to every button on the n64 controller. example:
dpad -> dpad
left touchpad -> analog stick
right touchpad -> c buttons
square and x -> B and A
start -> start
L -> Z
R -> R
select -> L
and you've done everything afaik.

I prefer mupen64 because n64oid is full of ads

Ads, on the N64oid? Mupen64 is nice with the touch pad capabilities, This emulator has big potential so keep lookout for its progress. If touch pad was enabled for the N64oid, oh boy..
Heh, I know. Mupen64 still is kinda slow compared to N64oid, but you know... Ocarina of time runs pretty much flawless. Framerate lowers in hyrule field and that's pretty much that. So games like Mario 64 run at fullspeed. And it's still in beta. N64oid has touchpad support in ICS though.

I was playing Majora's Mask for a bit and the beginning was spot on, very smooth game play and great with the analog touch pad until I reached the first town then it lagged pretty hard :good: so I switched to N64oid for comparison. ICS sounds cool too, good to hear touch pad works with it, I read the sensitivity could use some adjustments but I'll try getting around to testing it.
I thought about switching to ICS, but you know, there are some kind of other issues. xD I've been tinkering with zelda these last days. Mupen64 has been updated with a port of gles2glide, which seems to be a lot better as video plugin. I checked the framerate and it's higher on average, but more importantly there are not graphical bugs like flickering textures or missing hearts. Also, I lowered the resolution back to the native 320x240 for the plugin, and it seems to work out better. There are still minor lags (in big areas like hyrule field, and/or crowded areas like the market) but the framerate never drops below, say, 15 fps. The game runs at 20 fps, and it stays that was most of the time. Only playing the game will reveal anything more though. Good thing I played it at least thrice...
Also, the glide plugin will be updated for sure.
Let us know if anything new pops up with ICS!

Eh? The C buttons get mapped to the right analog... and since N64 lacks both a select button and a second analog, Xperia Play definitely isn't the limited one here. It actually has a much higher proficiency for inputs.
I know that some people recommend PSXPeria for Gingerbread, but after looking through the compatibility list, I can see there aren't too many games that are compatible with it, such as some of my personal favorites - Harry Potter 1 & 2, and Spyro 3 (SP3 works, but voices cut off, and it's annoying).
Does FPse solve most of these problems? Or has PSXPeria been long updated since that list?
I've seen some people recommend FPse for ICS,but I don't have that.
Lastly, is there a way to get the touch pads to work with FPse? I think they already work with PSXPeria, correct me if I'm wrong.
Any tips?

fpse uses touchpads. It works wonders

Both work with touchpads. fpse from what I can tell is more general support where epsxe is a bit more accurate.
for me fpse is best ps1 emulator

Cant test right now as I have just sold my play but if tincore mapper works on the xp you can use that. In settings there is a gamepad mode and you can make the games think you have a moga, dualshock, shield or ipega. I use it for my s7300b but Im not sure about compatibility on the xp. Games normally come up with 'gamepad detected' and show the moga controls when it is set up. Hope that helps

If you don't want to root then you're missing out. Besides, Tincore Keymapper requires root, that's why it crashed.
__IMPORTANT________
This application requires root for advanced mapping modes.

Also I have emailed Heaval, the developers of Portalize, with some links about optimizing it. So if nothing else shows up I have to wait for an answer. Still Thanks for your support!
Rooting is so easy and there are no drawbacks. Opens your phone to so much more, and tincore is awesome

About root. There is no other way to simulate a controller.
Could someone explain to me how to use this app? When I install and run it there appear mouse cursor on my screen (I cannot move with it and I don't know how to disable it - if I uncheck mouse pointer in settings, nothing happens) and if I open the app from notification area, there is no options called MOGA or something like this, only some settings which has no influence so I don't really know what is purpose of this app...
I want play Portalize with gamepad too, but Gamekeyboard has settings only for "gamepad to Xperia gamepad" but haven't "Xperia gamepad to gamepad".
Hello, just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.
I recently got an Xperia Play R800i and have used the PSXperia exploit to load the built in PSX emulator with some ISOs. However, the option on the phone under 'Controller Settings' for 'Analog Mode' is greyed out and I haven't been able to get them to work at all, so games like 'Ape Escape' are unplayable. I've looked on this site and elsewhere but haven't been able to find any way of testing if this is a hardware issue with the touchpad or something with the software. Have tried using another emulator ePSXe with support for the Xperia Play touchpads but nothing either. Phone is running stock SE firmware 2.3.4, build 4.0.2.A.0.62.
Any advice or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated

Well the only PsX emulator I have tried is FPse and I can confirm touchpads work flawlessly. You could try to use an app named “GameKeyboard” to test the touchpads. Also you could install any Xperia Play-optimized game to test touchpads, for example Dead Space.

So I downloaded GameKeyboard to test the touchpads - every other gamepad button works apart from the touchpads so it appears to be a hardware issue for sure

Hi, what options should I be using in this app to activate the touchpads? I'm using the stock SE 2.3.4 ROM so is this needed? Also, can this app potentially damage the phone in any way??

If you are gonna use psxperia when you build the apk you have to enable touchpads by ticking a box. Then you can go into the emulator and select the control scheme that utilizes them

I ticked the box to enable touchpads/analog when I was building the APKs with PSXperia. I've since tried testing the touchpads with another app I found on here + I tried using the touchpad test in the service menu of the phone but not working.
I'm going to try flash the stock ROM to 100% rule out that it is not a software issue - if the touchpads still don't work then I'm going to try replace the gamepad itself which will hopefully fix the issue!
Issue fixed
So I ended up ordering a replacement touchpad and housing as seemed to be a hardware issue - and sure enough when I took the phone apart, the flex connecting the touchpads to the motherboard was broken in half!!! now i have replaced the touchpads and reassembled the phone everything is working perfectly. Thanks everyone for your tips!
