Its probaly your phone syncing with GPS, Google map have never lead me wrong since the beginning when it came out, I travel 5000 miles one time and it never lead me wrong.
Yeah that's interesting, Google maps is the best for me. Copilot utilizes Google maps by the way

Yes Google maps navigation is been dead spot on if u have Ur gps turned of then of course Ur location isn't as spot on but with gps on the Google navigation is like very good. Didn't find anything better then Google navigation.

I use google maps and Sygic when going to another country.
Copilot is also OK
Interesting feedback. I tried out Google Maps and, unless I am using it wrong, found it heavily dependant on having a good data signal in order to calculate a route. I want something that I can download and use offline as data signal is patchy where I am.
I used Co-Pilot a few years ago and it was ok but had a few instances where it simply failed to find a location.
Surprised Tomtom has not got it together for Android.

Well yes Google needs data to work. Is not a offline navigation tool. In that case just buy a navigation system or upgrade Ur data plan. U r better off buying a offline navigation then using one on Ur phone. Because downloading the maps can cost a lot of memory and most of the time real navigation system that is offline are better then offline smartphone once. As for online once Google maps is great and free.

Yep you can preload the map but it still needs internet to calculate the route...
I am using Sygic mapmyindia version, works perfect.

I use Sygic as drive on the continent a lot.
Got it on offer a couple of years ago (about £25 for UK & Europe) so it was a bit of a bargain and used it many many times.
I also use google navigation while at home sometimes as it's just easier to google search then plot a route to somewhere.

You can load up the map and the route, and save it offline. It will then work without any data connection (and supposedly can make adjustments within reason without connection, but I have never tried this and heard it is only being tested).

Anyone know It's possible to get speed camera alerts while using the navigation app?
I have this strange tenancy to drive slightly above the speed limit and from using it in the past, I'm sure it.doesn't warn you about speed cameras. I know I should just keep alert, but there are times when you lose concentration.

a) Not available in the navigation app, try a different gps application.
b) If you're prone to losing concentration, please don't speed.

Didn't mean it like that. I meant concentration as in looking for speed cameras.
Also when I say speed, it'd only be a few mph, nothing excessive. I like to go at least 5mph under the speed limit when going through a camera (i don't trust them)

Copilot may not be free, but it is very cheap for what it is and a far superior navigation solution than Google Navigation (which is still pretty good for free!).

Agreed - the software is worth every penny.
I hate Google Nav - don't like it one bit.
Copilot Live V8 is fantastic. I have downloaded every map that they have currently available and my Copilot folder is slightly larger than 4Gb in size. It has hung on loading just once and I had to reboot the phone then it was ok. Had installed vlingo just before that and wondered if too many apps were running.
It is more accurate than my Garmin 765t but of course lacks a lot of the refinements of a dedicated satnav device. It is certainly accurate to within <10m and I would say around 3 m.
It does not have speed and red light cameras which my garmin has.
I find some of the countries maps have no POI available and only limited categories in others. Not sure how many Favorites you can store for each country.
I have tested it against the Garmin and routing is nearly always the same.
I recommend this app to anyone and it is worth the money if you pay for it.

Mine does (UK).
Ha ha ha, why would you download every map there is for it?
Just use the map for your country and you will see it even starts up quicker after that. My Copilot folder size is <- 200mb or so.

download GPS Status from the market and then RESET A-GPS data through it
this might help you in getting a location faster and more accurately.
hope this helps
-download and install from market gpsfix
-turn on gps and internet connection
-turn on gpsfix and wait for fix (6 seconds!)
-close gpsfix and web and open navigation software!
done!
i tried many soft but for me best are:
-igo my way for android
-sygic aura
-ndrive 3d
A great app (root needed) FasterFix(somewhere to find on this forum)
you can set your default settings to your region for a faster fix of your gps.
Faster fix does nothing on my ndrive.

Is there a GPS app that has downloadable maps so you can use the GPS without a data plan?
I tried IGOMYWAY but it doesn't work for some reason.
EDIT:
CoPilot V8 works wonderfully. Problem solved! I highly recommend Copilot. Gives a nice 3D view, has a tolerable fembot voice for directions, has POI's, and doesn't disconnect from GPS signals.
It'd make sense for there to be someway, but I have no idea if there is. HTC Sense advertises that you can do it with their software, however I never figured out how that exactly worked for the 2-3 weeks that I used a Sense-based ROM.
Sounds like you're talking about a navigation app. A GPS app can be just about anything, like GPS Status & Toolbox, geocaching, jogging loggers, etc.
Navigon and CoPilot are a couple. Some on here have said CoPilot is pretty good (although I haven't tried myself), and its reasonably priced at $5 for the USA maps.
Yes. I basically want a Garmin or a TomTom equivalent on my G2. Since Garmin and TomTom don't need a data plan to work, I don't see why there shouldn't be an app that does the same.
IGO Navigator works on my Bell Desire Z.
Back in the g1 days I used copilot. Its really good. I would recommend it

wasn't there a modification for maps made by someone where the map cache is saved onto the SD card?
i think it was brute or something like that
Alright. So I got CoPilot and it doesn't work. I have the maps and everything. It is just that the program can't detect satellites. That is the same problem I had for IGO navigator.
BUT from another post, a person (I think it was redpoint) told me to download GPS status, and if that program can detect satellites then your GPS should work.
Well, I did what he said, and it did indeed detect satellites, and even detected
Then how come IGO AND Copilot doesn't work for me?
I am actually prepared to go out and buy a Garmin 265T
yea
i'm gonna follow this thread cause i'm in the same boat. it's ridiculous that you could be out in a clear open area that just gets no cell service and yet you can't get gps service. do i really need to go buy a freaking gps when my phone should be able to handle it?
Polarbear:
Try Igo navigator and CoPilot. They work without data. They work for other people. They don't work for me though. They might work for you.
I began too many sentences with "they".

I dont have it off hand, but just download any rom older than a few weeks and extract it from system/app. Just make sure the play store isnt set to auto update your apps though
i've been running liquid smooth and it didn't come with maps apk in the rom, I had always downloaded it from the play store...
I would really like the apk for maps as well

Fyi guys, someone around here said google released another update that fixed a lot of issues people had. Cant remember who or where, but figured I'd mention it.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I uninstalled it completely ..and refused the update. The new update was very buggy and seem to constantly send data back . But just the fact that a force feed us this version pissed me off . One of there main things Google did was removing Latitude (as of Aug. 1st ) . Which I used a lot to keep track of my kids and family, the technology is still there but can only be used on Google Hangout (very buggy). But who really knows why it is they do this things like this...Just buggy.
I have just reverted it on the desktop as well, such a relieve to have the old stuff back.... at least while they let us.
I came looking here to revert the phone apk (blackout is the easy way and awesome). Google messed up sooo bad on this one. Like I search for a chain, and it shows me them one at a time with me having to swipe through them (in seemingly random order as some are up to 40mi away sandwiched in between others that are 2-4mi away, and the one that is only 0.7mi away is 10 swipes away). The old maps just shows you a map with YOU in the center and pins for the 10 results closest to you. When I am "on-the-go" why would I want to instead have the map of the first result you choose at random, which may or may not include my location, and then have to swipe through results while I mentally figure out where each one is in relation to me??? It is just ludicrous! The new maps may be great for casual browsing at home, but I use maps for location-based productivity, there are plenty of other apps for Where should I go / eat / buy. Make the new Maps for tablets and leave my phone and desktop Maps alone (or make them more productive, not less!!!)
Other examples of failure:
- I tell it to navigate somewhere and it shows me a full screen route-list, even if there is only one. Then, after I select that route I want, it shows me that route and I have to click Go before the navigation actually begins. The old version: I instantly get navigation and can choose alternate routes if I want. The new version is dangerous to use while driving. The old one is 100% hands free. WTF Google?
- You used to be able to use Google Now to say "Map of ..." or "Navigate to ..." which does not work correctly anymore.
Have you reported all of this to google?

I'd like to see that, but I doubt it. Likely they'll look at us and ask why we havn't updated our phones.
Really wanted to thank the folks on here who pulled the APK, Maps 7 just doesn't work at all on my EVO 3D, it flickers, the prompts are scrambled, it can only function in landscape mode... this is on top of the, slower, feature hidden, beauty update nonsense. So thanks again.
Dogan
I've played beta games with less bugs than this ****e.
I have the old Maps, and I've tried multiple copies of Google Now, but still when I say "Navigate to Target" it shows me Google results for that search instead of opening Navigation and auto routing to the nearest Target.
I really, really miss "Map of [...]" and "Navigate to [...]". I want to be able to do this from google now which is always one button away, not have to open the map program first, click search, then click mic, then say "Target", then click the nearest one, then click navigate. (at least it is not 4 more steps anymore like it was with the new maps)
Please, can someone figure out how to get this simple command working as it used to?
-------------------
Edit: Nevermind I guess... mine just started working again. I complained here and in one other thread, then I tried "Navigate to Texas" as I was going to post a screen shot of how that same search that worked for another didn't work for me, and to my surprise it worked. Now it is working every time just how it used to. Very strange. I swear it was not working for me from like 2 months ago until 30min ago. I'm just glad it is back.
Just wondering what navigation app people prefer. Im fixing to go on a trip and was wondering if the ATT nav is better than Google Maps.
I don't mind buying apps. I buy way too many on multiple platforms. But I wouldn't pay any carrier a monthly charge for a navigation app when Google and others offer great apps for my device. Google Maps, Nokia’s HERE are some of the best available. Both don't require a monthly fee. Or any fee. More are available but those are the two I stick with for trips. At least on Android devices.
