My phone seems to take a while backing everything up. Like 10 minutes is the slowest it will take, I've tried CWM and now TWRP. I'm wondering if this is an issue with other phones.
I don't think its an "issue" those backups are 3.5gigs.

TW is huge then plus your apps a nexus 4 back up might be around 200mb or a bit less or more a TW ROM is 3.5 gb.

Ur talking about a phone that's far away from this phones capacity, this phone is revolutionary and advanced compared to Ur nexus... Nd yes it takes a long time to back up things also that depends one how many apps take out of Ur memory nd Ur settings as well.. Personally I find twrp to be the fastest to back things up... My backs ups size is 2.5 gb and on cwm takes like 5-6 mins while on twrp takes less than 3 mins so the more stuff you have on Ur phone the longer it's gonna take it to back it up... Hope I helped

Y does it take that long? I just did my friends s4g and it took like 10 minutes
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Not sure.. It's quick for some, and can take over an hour for others, from my experience at least. I got impatient once and unplugged and got stuck in the "problem installing firmware " screen and had to Odin back to stock.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
it can vary, i used this set of instructions and it took me about 15 minutes from start to finish...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18585070&postcount=172
i found out why. it depends on the .tar files. i tried 4 different ones from different webites and the last one i use went through in less then 5 minutes....maybe even 3
It's tough to find a good clean file now since mega-upload server disappeared...
So I just performed a nandroid for the first time in months (tsk tsk I know) and it took about 45 minutes to complete! It is 1.3gb in size, so not huge.
Does the amount of time this took mean my sdcard is dying? I've got a class 6. Or does this mean I've got an old and slow format (fat32 I think). Or could this be an issue with the new cwm 6?
Anyways I'm just curious what your guys thoughts are on this and your average nandroid times. I've never had one take more than five minutes or so prior to this... Thanks!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
No one else experiences 45 minute nandroid sessions? lol
mine take hella long too. cwm6. but only like 25 to 30 minutes for mine and it was about 2.1 gig. with twrp, it is done in a couple minutes. maybe has something to do with md5 checking because i turn it off in twrp. idk, it stumps me too.
Interesting... It must be the new CWM6 backup format?
It's very odd though because one of the "HUGE" reasons for CWM 6's release was "2x faster backups".
BTW, I just made a backup with TWRP, done on minutes, not nearly an hour.

yea and instead of the bulk of the files being put into the 'backup' folder, the bigger folder is the 'blobs' folder. check it out. and if any of the blobs are deleted, the backup won't work. I really do like how quickly twrp backs up tho.
Mine usually only take 5 mins or less... if they take longer than that they usually dont work.

And is this with CWM 6?
My back up times were long also, with most of the time stuck in the freeing up space part when backing up to my SD card but when choosing backup to internal it barely takes 2-3 mins. This is with cwm 6 by the way.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Mine took 8 minutes 25 seconds using Agat 0.2.1. Almost 4 minutes of that was the md5. Compressed about 8 gigs to 1.2 gigs.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
So I did another one today with TWRP that was bigger in size than my original CWM 6 backup. It was done in maybe five minutes or less.
I guess the conclusion is that my sdcard is fine. Cwm 6 is just slow as hell! I'll stick with twrp from now on

Just bought my galaxy nexus off of somebody on craigslist, and I absolutely love it coming from an htc amaze 4g. This phone is lightning quick and extremely responsive. I can see grain because of the pentile, and also have the purple issue when brightness is low as well as incredibly low speaker. I'm kinda worried about the limited 16Gb internal memory. Other than that, I prefer this phone over my friends S3!! I love this phone!!!!! My first Samsung! Nice to meet you all! Any suggestions and apps u guys would recommend? I

Hopefully battery isn't too bad on jellybean. My amaze on ics would last about 8 hours of light to intermediate usage and about 1 hour and 15 minutes of screen on time. Anything better than then I'll be happy lol

Only 1 hour?? Most people here get 3 to 4 hours screen on time, some I've seen even 5. You should go ahead and root it and install a custom kernel so you can adjust the color settings to fix that purple tint issue

You should be able to get longer than that with the screen on. Are you switching everything on at the same time? e.g. GPS, wireless, LTE (perhaps?), or perhaps having emails sync every minute... Even if it's heavy gaming you're doing you should get longer than that.

Lol no guys. If anything I would probably get 90 minutes maximum screen on time on my HTC amaze. the battery life on that phone was the worst I've seen in my life. Auto sync off, brightness at 10% , mobile data off, and just some texting.
Also I was thinking of flashing a either kernel, but the phone is perfect the way it is lol. What are other benefits from custom kernel?

You can change the color profile with a custom kernel to get rid of the purple tint. You can also undervolt and underclock for better battery life. You can overclock too, but the CPU is more than enough @stock for most tasks
First thing I'd check out is Jubakuba's sticky in the Q&A forum, all about unlocking boot loader, rooting, flashing ROMs, etc. Big timesaver is just flash bigxie's 4.1.1 ROM which is rooted, with busybox, gapps, and deodexed. Trinity kernel will let you adjust color, boost volume, and overclock (or underclock to save battery). People also like Franco's kernel. Another good flashable mod is Thyrus's Nav bar w/menu button, which also gives you expanded power-off menu with reboot and recovery options. (Does require deodexed ROM so won't work on stock). And you might want to try a replacement launcher like Nova or Apex.
Or you might just want to enjoy the stock Jellybean experience for a while before modding. Have fun.
Thanks for the responses guys!! I read around and I see I have to use Odin? I'm more of a fast boot command prompt type of guy lol . I'm scared to mess up nexus :/ is performance better with custom kernels? Oh boy I'm going to have do tons of reading!!! Lol.

That's probably most likely fake I mean come on it only has 1.5GB of Ram? Odd much? And to top it off only eight gigs of internal which is probably going to leave you with like maybe 1 gig left of actual use highly unlikely that that's the real specs sorry but I'm going to have to go and say FAKE!!!

You still are not Understanding the point the phone might be real however the specs are not even mid tier. They're fake simply because there's no such thing as 1.5GB of RAM no system will do a .5GB.
Not to mention that it only has 8 gigs of internal memory that's going to leave your phone with one possibly two gigs of actual data to even use. There is a reason why most of these phones are now coming with 16 gigs minimum simply because the fact that they use almost 40 percent of the actual data for the phone system.

Well it's extremely retarded move on samsung. It only had 100mAh more than ours which means worse battery life as its powering a bigger screen. Really low internal memory. And 1.5 again what's the point. It's like saying here's our s***** version of the note 2 and S3 combined. With so so similar specs.
It's kind of like the miniseries like the s3 mini and the s4 Mini

This KitKat update is complete crap, it's ruined a number of things on my device and added NOTHING. A week ago I was 100% satisfied with my Note 3, I could keep it forever on 4.3. Is it possible to go back? I'm stock, not-rooted.

I've noticed a lot of different things with the processor. After on for a little while randomly some of the CPUs will activate did not sleep, normally cpu0 stays on all the time but cpu1-3 turn off to save battery, and at the same time the minimum frequency would get stuck at 1.95... When you reboot everything would reset back to the minimum of 300 mhz and the CPUs would sleep as normal

Really glad I stayed on 4.3 after hearing a lot of these horror stories mentioned in several threads. I had no intention of taking the OTA or Odin anyways just because I read a couple weeks before on a site that kitkat 4.4.2 was messing with how it handles the external sdcard and apps.
There's mixed reports of good/bad battery life on 4.4.2 and if the new bootloader really makes a difference yet, all I can say to those that did jump the gun or didn't know any better is things will get better as devs iron out the bugs and create custom kernels/roms to help you guys out. Does it suck waiting for all this.. hell yes it does but we have all been there before and just know you are in the right place here at XDA because these devs and members are here to help us all out thru hard times.
