[Q] 4.2.2 official Samsung update? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I know the 4.1.2 just came out not too long ago, but it seem the 4.2.2 got leaked on the i9300, will we be getting some of that jellybean upgraded goodness anytime soon?
Kinda just want some input, and if there is already a thread on this, I am sorry, I looked around and couldn't find one.

well based on the previous updates the i9300 will get offecial update in a month or 2 but carriers are always late behind sometimes even 4 months but it wont go to 2014 at least

Unless you are on T-Mobile. Then you'll receive it 4 to 6 months after Key Lime Pie is finally released.

Perfect ! Been waiting for this ! Seen it in my newsfeed as well!
I'm excited. The ported releases showed a lot of promise but were just too buggy for me. They did however fix a major bluetooth bug that has plagued both Samsung devices I've used with ICS (SII LTE, SIII) my car.
Looks like we may get it before AT&T users too.
Bastards!!

So does Samsung control the updates like they did with some of the galaxy nexus models? Or is this only for certain carriers?

Samsung released the OS to the carriers months ago presumably. The carriers tested it and bloated them up. Samsung stated that it will begin rolling out on Monday so I would assume this means at least the Big 3 will begin rolling it out first.

I asked bell a week ago on twitter and they told me 6-8 weeks..... and when i asked samsung about bell telling me that they didnt answer.... so iono i really dont think we are gonna see it monday...
I agree. Maybe one carrier will push the ota but all three on same day sounds too good to be true. I bought an unlocked telus model yesterday, knowing my luck telus won't release update until 2013 lol. Heres hoping it's all 3 major carriers!

You can't take anything the carrier says as truth. Their reps do not know the answer and anything they give is purely speculation or a rumour they are pushing forward. Carrier reps always find out a day before or on the day of release for the most part about new services/features.
This news came directly from Samsung. Does this mean everyone will get the update on Monday? Probably not but we should start seeing some staggering rollouts to customers and to the rest with each passing day.
I'll start unfreezing my Rogers and Samsung bloat in TBP on Sunday in hopes I get the update on Monday.
I'll wait for a CWM/TWRP flashable version... It's bound to happen shortly once it is released... Otherwise I'll have to unroot or something...
This is fantastic news, and great timing for all of us who snagged one over the weekend through the Black Friday deal for $0 from Telus. I already love this phone as it is!

Hopefully we still be getting very soon. I was so used to 4.1.1 on my galaxy nexus
When I had Galaxy Note, Big 3 released the Ice Cream Sandwich update on the same day.
It is not something unbelievable.

Doubt it will be Monday. Doesn't the carriers have to add bloat and test it on the network? I would say close to the 15th.
Once it is released people will start complaining about when 4.2.1 will be released. Want the fastest android updates? Get a nexus. Want the best hardware? Don't get a nexus and go cm custom rom. I wouldn't be surprised if cm10.1 was released before 4.1.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747M
If Samsung is announcing the availability, it means the carriers have already tested it and are ready to release it. It may be all of them, it may only be one or two to start, but some Canadian Galaxy S III owners should get the upgrade notice on Monday.

they said 'it will be available as an ota update on monday' meaning that it's already been tested my carriers. and it doesn't take a week for carriers to test it, more like months and months with the snail pace they usually go by. the update's been out for months internationally, and weeks for tmo and sprint.can't wait for google now! missed it coming from my nexus s

I hope that Bell will add support for HD Voice in this release! They support the Note II after all.

There is a hardware dependency for this. IIRC, the GS3 does not have a wideband receiver.

4.2.x Official?

Do you think we're ever going to get JB 4.2.x Official? I heard they were going to announce it along with the Galaxy S4 but I never heard anything about it.

Yes, just not any time soon. Samsung can officially supporting the SGS3 after the 18 month release period has expired (according to the Open Handset Alliance).
The restrictions that we are experiencing is from our carriers.

hahah trying not to laugh.... but waiting for AT&T to get 4.2.x? that's a long way...consider we have yet to get 4.1.2 (not premium suite)
ICS was pushed out on the Skyrocket and SGS2 a few weeks before the GS3 came out and JB was pushed out to the GS3 a bit after the Note 2
Safe to assume June or July to correspond to the price drop when the GS4 comes out. Sell phones with 4.2 stock...then again I don;t see the skyrocket getting 4.1 anytime soon and the i777 never will (except thanks to SHOstock's awesome ROM)
I had to give up on AT&T's updates after waiting a year to get Froyo back when I got my Captivate. Samsung got the updates out quick enough, but AT&T sat on them for months on end. T Mobile and Verizon both got their updates way before mine ever came. That's why, as a Christmas gift to myself, I jumped ship and went the custom ROM route. I understand it's not for everyone and many ROMs out there are not for daily use, but with Cyanogenmod I was getting the new versions of Android just a few weeks after they were released, and now I'm on ParanoidKANGdroid running 4.2.2.
I do hope that one day AT&T gets their act together with updates. Until then...

Woo!
Yeah, pretty sure it's going to get Kitkat. Even if it doesn't officially, there are always roms haha.
I hope its something to "wow" us. I mean, my friend received his update on his GN3 and he noticed a great battery life and just a bit more snappy. It was something like a 500mb download so it had to be more features. I'm wondering if we're going to get something like that or a whole new TW maybe. By the time we get the update the GS5 will be out.
Do not expected the new TW interface, the S3 will never see the new tw interface from an official update. Would probably see improvements in wifi connection, bluetooth connection, perhaps some tweaking to settings and under the armor updates from 4.4.2
We will for sure get the new update as the S3 counts for a lot of the samsung units sold aroung the world
OK folks, lets take this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639286 for focused discussion in one thread. Thanks

I noticed this on Sprint's RDF feed for their devices:
Code:
<prf:SoftwareNumber>T217SVPUBNC9</prf:SoftwareNumber>
<prf: OSVersion>4.4.2</prf: OSVersion>
So it appears that the T217S will get 4.4 in the next couple of months.
I think only u.s version will get kitkat

For me it's been a while away from the non iphone scene, I happened to wonder if I could upgrade my Tab3 7" today and was reading plenty of news about it being available soon (from articles posted in February). A quick poke around and it seems that it's not released yet and I figure I may as well ask since I don't know.
What's the release schedule around these things usually like? IE how long from "announced" to actually available?
Is the firmware for Tab devices geo-specific? IE is the Australian launch different to the US etc?
(I understand for the phones it's likely to be very carrier dependant)
I think that's all for now.

If you have a Sprint Tab 3 7.0, then expect an update somewhere between now and two months. That is just a guess but that is how firmware for my Galaxy S3 has worked. Sprint updates the RDF feed and then about two months later it gets released.
For other Tab 3's, no idea.

Samsung is notorious for being one of the worst manufactures out there when it comes to updating their budget products. I wouldn't hold my breath on a April release, I expect the Tab 4 to be available for purchase before you'll see it. The Tab 3 7" will also probably be the last one to get it and will most likely be the last major update you will ever get, I would bet money on it. I'm actually surprised Samsung is even updating the Tab 3 7" as their track record for releasing new Android versions for their cheaper models is not good. Yes, the update is carrier specific for the LTE models and won't see the light of day for at least a month or two after the WiFi models are updated, if at all.
In the future I would stay away from Samsung's budget line, it's already been a year since version 4.3 was released without it ever reaching the Tab 3 line and now almost 6 months and counting for 4.4.2.
To be fair I only got this device to run torque pro in the car (which is does just fine). As an appliance it's great! Now I'm just tinkering because I'm bored
Although I'm also temped to trade in the iPhone for an android based phone and while I understand it's low powered this was going to be a taste of the new OS I'd be getting.
i bought tab 3 2100 since i needed a 7 inch tab with phone capability, my first choice was any google tab but there is no phone capability in them so therefore i bought it.. and i think Samsung wont give kitkat update unless they release tab 4 with kitkat ... this is their way of making money !

It's barely even a year old so well within the supposed 18 month window, just wait until they have the Tab 4's out then they will likely release it after those have been out a while so as not to interfere with their sales.
It's been said as much that the Tab 3's are in line to receive the 4.4 KitKat update, they may well only end up releasing it for the 8.0, 10.0 & the Sprint version of the 7.0
So until Samsung out right say it's not getting it, then it's coming.

Yeah it's listed on their own site, although they don't specify which models.
The Note 8.0 just got KitKat (also on that list) pretty much out of the blue the other week, I will be very surprised if the Tab 8.0 (& I guess 10.0) don't get it, it's the 7.0 I'd be more doubtful about.
Tab 3 8.0 has 1.5GB RAM, it shouldn't really be an issue, but I think it's time Samsung trimmed their bloatware down, I use none of it.
cousin's almost new tab 3 8.0 is showing a weird problem.
sometimes the screen stop responding and only way is to press power to turn off screen and back on and touch starts working again.
what you guys think, a hardware problem in line or just a software glitch.
tab is full stock and not been rooted.

THe 4.4.2 runs well. Also the AOSP versions of 4.4.4 work fine too.
If its ok, could you please give an overview of the new rom, what's new and whats missing from the old rom that might make someone consider whether to upgrade or not. This site is fantastic, one thing that is usually difficult though is finding basic rom change related info , more often than not its how to root a new rom with no details of the changes, and some people are only cosidering change. Thanks. (I believe side loading flashplayer is now impossible ?) Thanks again.
