Do boot animations slow down boot up? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

As the thread says...if it slows down boot up i'd rather do without. If so how to delete it?
tmobile s3 running wicked. I still use a t9 text app so excuse the errors

On AOKP you can disable the boot animation. Haven't noticed faster boot time tho

Disabling the boot animation does speed up boot slightly, but the difference is small.

Experiencing touchwiz lag

Hey guys,
Is anyone else experiencing constant restarting of the TouchWiz launcher? It always seems to happen whenever I leave an app to go the main screen the launcher always seem to restart itself. Is there something in the settings I'm missing? I happened to like this launcher a lot, just the restarting drives me crazy lol . It's never like a smooth transition from app to home screen. Thanks guys
Try in developers options changing windows animation scale and transition animation scale to .5 or even off.

I did changed the windows animations scale, but is still doing it. My guess is a launcher issue.

I was running stock, but I decided to factory reset and I believe that might've fixed the constant launcher refreshing. So far is running smoother now. Weird

reinstall apps one by one, and see what happens. It could be an app messing with it
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
never had that happen.. full wipe and reset or flash another rom.

Yeah that is exactly what I did and the phone is running much better than before. It was just so annoying because I just got this phone like days ago and I wasn't really expecting something like this from one of the best phones in the market right now. I believe it all started when I restored all my apps when I first logged into the phone.

Did you restore any system apps?

Boot up delay

Ever since 4.1 I've had a super long boot time. Luckily I don't have to reset often but when I do... it takes like 5-10 minutes.
I flashed a new bootloader on my Verizon variety but it seems not to do much. This still an issue or is there a fix?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
4.1 has a long boot up time due to the system scanning your file system to make sure there's no problems. 4.2 no longer does that. It was only with 4.1
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Right, some roms are quicker than others and many have the long boot on initial boot but goes much quicker from there on. Sourcery 4.1.2 seems to boot pretty quick other than that first boot after installing an update or restoring a nandroid.
I'm talking about EVERY boot. I'm running PA on my N7 but it never had any boot delays on any version. I'm planning on upgrading my GN eventually but I have a super sweet setup right now running Xenon 4.1.2.
Xenon was the only 4.1 that gave me superb battery life. Its 4.2 rom, battery seems to be a problem.
Good to know 4.2 boots normal. I mean 5-10 minutes each boot (not initial) is a pain. That's a really good reason to make the switch. I also really like PAs 4.2 tablet mode features.

i am running Pa also and it boots up quit fast so I don't think it has somethinh to do with you're rom

[Q] Rom Toolbox Themes and Icons

I noticed I could potentially change my icons and themes from RT, but attempting that on my DX caused bad results. Has anyone tried it with this S3 rom, or any others? GS3 SGH-T999 with Root66 4.1.1 T-Mobile rom with flashed boot animation enabler and CWM Touch 6.0.1.2 (I think)
Thanks!

For most part RT Pro works. Some Status Bar icons can be changed will others dont do anything. Ive noticed that some work like a battery icon change works visually but the percentage of the battery level was always off. I know boot animation can be used but on a CM10 based rom it does not store the boot ani in the right folder but I do believe it does store it correctly on a stock rom.
Never fails to try just do a Nandroid backup. I do it all the time.
Okay, I'll give it a go after my next backup. I got the boot animations to work after flashing an enabler I found on another post. It still does the T-Mobile chime, but that's fine.
Thanks for the feedback!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Tried RT Pro icons and it didn't do anything, other than bugger my accounts up. I just restored the backup from TouchWin to get it back. I'm curious if It's just where Samsung stored the icons, since some came up not found on system, or if Samsung has them blocked, and it requires an enabler, like the custom boot animations do. I'll have to finger walk a bit more and see if there's an enabler, or another app that can change icons. I looked into UOTKitchen, I think it was called, and It's got some neat icons I'd like to use, but I'm worried about using it to mod Root66, and totally screwing up the rom, or worse, fouling my phone up.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

[Q] Nexus 4 boot animation

This will most likely seem like a noob question, but I can't just take the bootanimation.zip from a nexus 4 and manually install it on my phone, correct? I'd love to have the nexus 4 boot ani on my phone but can't find one specific to the S3.
Thanks in advance,
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Well I'm pretty sure the process is the same. I would try it out myself since changing the boot animation incorrectly can't mess up your phone, but I havent gotten my S3 yet
But anyway, use the instructions from here to setup your new bootanimation (replacing his bootanimation.zip with the nexus 4 bootanimation.zip of course) and see if it works. Theoretically it should, because the bootanimation.zip is just a bunch of pictures essentially
Also, could you give the link to that bootanimation? I've been looking for a nice one for a bit Thanks in advance OP :good:

I don't think it will work because although the s3 has a boot animation.zip that's not how the s3 plays the boot loader it uses a different format its just there because its the way android is built plus there should be some size differences the s3 has a slightly bigger screen which should have some affect on it but hey I may be wrong but all I know is s3 uses a different boot animation format

Screen size has nothing to do with it all that matters is resolution and file size needs to be within limits to be played.
OP as long as the resolution is correct you can use the custom animation method for the s3 to install it.
I like to break stuff!
Figured it out. Thanks everyone.

It didnt work on my shift when I did it through that, actually
So its not universal, I cant say for the S3 though

As requested. I pushed to /system/media and fixed permissions. Can't promise your phone will be the exact same.
Also, I upped the Google splash screen from the Nexus phones, you'll still have the Samsung logo boot first. Use this thread to create a flashable zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928751
My phone currently boots in this order:
Samsung Logo
Google Splash Screen
Nexus 4 Boot Animation
ROM
I assume no responsibility if anything happens to your phone. I didn't create any of this, so i'm not taking credit.

No boot animation after upgrading my epic touch 4G to jelly bean

Hi. I upgraded my Epic Touch 4G recently (SPH-D710VMUB) to jelly bean (GB28). The problem is that it stays on the Virgin mobile boot animation, and no android boot animation. Before it went through the virgin mobile boot animation then did the regular android start up animation (just said samsung, but I assume that when you change your boot animation it changes that.) Im wondering if theres a way to get rid of the virgin mobile boot screen completely or some other way to solve my problem.
By the way, its rooted but I still had problems before root.

Wrong forum, Epic Touch 4G (SPH-D710) has a separate forum. This is for Epic 4G (SPH-D700)

Sorry I couldn't find the epic touch category on the android app. Thanks for the move though.

No boot up animation isn't really a problem. All you get is a quicker start-up, I think its a plus.
Some custom roms do away with bootup animation, all you see is android on screen.
Pp. :beer::thumbup:
From my Epic Touch full of Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2.
Sure but I like having a custom boot animation after the Virgin Mobile boot animation. Basically I tried installing one using Boot Animations ★ root from the play store and it still just stops at the end of the virgin mobile boot screen animation untell android finished booting.
