This will most likely seem like a noob question, but I can't just take the bootanimation.zip from a nexus 4 and manually install it on my phone, correct? I'd love to have the nexus 4 boot ani on my phone but can't find one specific to the S3.
Thanks in advance,

Well I'm pretty sure the process is the same. I would try it out myself since changing the boot animation incorrectly can't mess up your phone, but I havent gotten my S3 yet
But anyway, use the instructions from here to setup your new bootanimation (replacing his bootanimation.zip with the nexus 4 bootanimation.zip of course) and see if it works. Theoretically it should, because the bootanimation.zip is just a bunch of pictures essentially
Also, could you give the link to that bootanimation? I've been looking for a nice one for a bit Thanks in advance OP :good:

I don't think it will work because although the s3 has a boot animation.zip that's not how the s3 plays the boot loader it uses a different format its just there because its the way android is built plus there should be some size differences the s3 has a slightly bigger screen which should have some affect on it but hey I may be wrong but all I know is s3 uses a different boot animation format

Screen size has nothing to do with it all that matters is resolution and file size needs to be within limits to be played.
OP as long as the resolution is correct you can use the custom animation method for the s3 to install it.
I like to break stuff!
Figured it out. Thanks everyone.

It didnt work on my shift when I did it through that, actually
So its not universal, I cant say for the S3 though

As requested. I pushed to /system/media and fixed permissions. Can't promise your phone will be the exact same.
Also, I upped the Google splash screen from the Nexus phones, you'll still have the Samsung logo boot first. Use this thread to create a flashable zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928751
My phone currently boots in this order:
Samsung Logo
Google Splash Screen
Nexus 4 Boot Animation
ROM
I assume no responsibility if anything happens to your phone. I didn't create any of this, so i'm not taking credit.

Hi everyone
Im looking for some sort of system boot animation. Onstead of the flashing S i wanna see all the code it goes through as its booting up.
Similar to what you see when you boot to recovery mode.
Having said all this ive heard there is one so im assuming there is one BUT ive no idea how to install it so any help there would be much appreciated
Thanks in advance

You need to use root explorer (phone must be rooted first) and copy bootanimation.zip to /system/media and on next boot animation should appear.

Bricking, yes, if you don't know what your doing.
Insurance/warranty, no, but read your terms and conditions.
All fixed/covered up with Odin and flashing a stock kernel. Your broken hardware on return isn't going to a CSI lab for investigation. Only your mouth can get you into trouble, if you volunteer to tell them any info that breaks any terms and conditions. Your mouth can also help, say it was a failed Kies update

Ok this sounds do.able. If i root it then change the boot animation then unroot it will the boot animation stay.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Im pretty sure you have to flash a custom Kernel which supports custom boot animations, like Hardcores' SpeedMod.
i havent found a reason not to root...as the options for customizing are endless! from boot animations to themed dialer and swype keyboards....custom ROMs and everything in between....
to answer you question about the boot animation..i think there is one out there...check out Doc & Stefunel's RomKitchen in the Development thread. there is a boot animation thats called BIOS...never used it but it seems like it fits what you're inquiring about....
good luck..
....please hit thanks if this was any help to you....
thanks for infos
Nice one folks im gonna have a think first though. The idea of bricking my £720 phone does not appeal to me haha

I don't think there's any way to do boot audio on the gnex. I've heard that it can be done if you're using certain ROMs. On most phones, you make an MP3 or whatever, give it a specified name and put it in a specified place. As far as I know, the stock ROMs don't support boot sound.

Halo 4 Load Screen Bootanimation.

Portrait

Just rename the file to bootanimation.zip and install into "system>media"
*Note*
The quality isn't HD Perfect but it's still pretty good.
This is a video of the load screen, not the video I used, nor is it mines. Just an example so you guys can see how it is.

**Note for everyone else:**
In case the boot wont load on your phone(s). Try to install/load it on to your phone(s) using either of the following apps = Absolute System or ROM Toolbox Pro.

I don't have anything on AC3 but I'll see what I can come up with. I usually just do load screens since it's simple and short.

landscape works fine portrait comes up blank and I tried to install over 10 times. using jedi kernel 1.
I'll check it on my cell again and see if it works. If anyone else has trouble let me know.

-Portrait Removed-
For some odd reason I can't get the portrait version to work no matter how much I try resizing or editing the desc file. The preview works fine on the apps, but as soon as I load it up it stays blank. I will look into this but it will take some time due to the holidays (ugh family) but I will work on it when I can.

Portrait version is up and working.
Tested with my phone
Portrait version only rotated once during the boot cycle. I'm running a Telus T-989D Samsung Galaxy S2x with CM10.
Gangnam Style lol, nice name.
It could be that your phone boots fast so it doesn't give the animation a chance to really play out. Thats my theory but I will reinstall in my phone and see if it plays out.

Just tested it and it plays out with no problem. Could be that your phone has a fast boot time.

I noticed I could potentially change my icons and themes from RT, but attempting that on my DX caused bad results. Has anyone tried it with this S3 rom, or any others? GS3 SGH-T999 with Root66 4.1.1 T-Mobile rom with flashed boot animation enabler and CWM Touch 6.0.1.2 (I think)
Thanks!

Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
For most part RT Pro works. Some Status Bar icons can be changed will others dont do anything. Ive noticed that some work like a battery icon change works visually but the percentage of the battery level was always off. I know boot animation can be used but on a CM10 based rom it does not store the boot ani in the right folder but I do believe it does store it correctly on a stock rom.
Never fails to try just do a Nandroid backup. I do it all the time.
Okay, I'll give it a go after my next backup. I got the boot animations to work after flashing an enabler I found on another post. It still does the T-Mobile chime, but that's fine.
Thanks for the feedback!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Tried RT Pro icons and it didn't do anything, other than bugger my accounts up. I just restored the backup from TouchWin to get it back. I'm curious if It's just where Samsung stored the icons, since some came up not found on system, or if Samsung has them blocked, and it requires an enabler, like the custom boot animations do. I'll have to finger walk a bit more and see if there's an enabler, or another app that can change icons. I looked into UOTKitchen, I think it was called, and It's got some neat icons I'd like to use, but I'm worried about using it to mod Root66, and totally screwing up the rom, or worse, fouling my phone up.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

Same here too....
So why is it every other s3 lines has a dualboot but we dont? Is it just lack of someone willing to make one or is it impossible?
Sorry, i have wondered this for awhile. We have a multi boot but i dont need 100 roms or more then 2 really.
Why not just use multi boot for the two you want?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Multiboot is equivalent dude
You can even leave a script in the multiboot folder that pushes you to recovery to allow you to choose which ROM to boot in the first place or just hold two more buttons when powering on anyway.
You can also just boot your second ROM whenever and reboot to get back to the first one.

Multi boot is fine an all but it would be easy if it was just a dual boot so its not doing 10 things to substatue doing 2 or 3..
But looks like there isnt going to be a way.

You could ask the dev. Maybe itd be a simple tweak to something to do what you want, im not sure though.
