It's been a while since I've used headphones (because of the audio delay issue), so I don't know if this is new or not. With the last several CM10.1+SGT7 roms, the headphone audio is scratchy. The built-in speaker audio is fine. I thought perhaps it was my headphones, but they work fine on everything else. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?
Thank you.

Well, I've tried a newer cm10.1 rom. I've never found any other roms that seem as stable (well, I suppose I think the cm10 roms are more stable, but I'm trying to not go backwards). The audio is better, but still scratchy.
When you say wipe everything, do you just mean dalvik/cache? Or do you mean data and/or sdcard as well?
Thanks.

wipe dalvik,system,cache
Yeah I'm getting the same problem. Audio delay plus really scratchy background noise. I've tried a few cm10.1 ROMs.

Okay. I finally got around to doing this. I generally loathe doing it because it takes so long to reinstall everything.... Anyway, headphone audio is still scratchy, but it's a little bit better (more like a background hiss that's not so noticable when audio is actually playing). It's certainly not as good as it was with the stock rom. It's not so annoying that I won't use it or even enjoy the occasional music/movie, though. Since I primarily use my kindle for reading, I think I'll be fine
Now, if only there was a way to increase the RAM, I think we'd all be happier. Oh, well, one can only expect so much from sub-premium hardware...
Thanks.

Audio delay? Have you tried the recent twa_priv CM10.1/SGT7 roms? They're quite stable and the audio delay has been fixed (one of the reasons why I tried using headphones again).
If you haven't, give the latest rom a try. If you have, perhaps post a message in the developer's section so they know it's an issue.
I hope this helps.
I have the same problem. Sometimes speaker audio is scratchy too.

Back when I was on stock GB 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 my volume was extremely loud. Now on CM9 the audio quality is better but the maximum volume is terrible. Also my main problem, recently 1 of my speakers ( the bottom one, or the right one when the phone is open ) stops working and the left one gets EXTREMELY quiet. The only way to fix this is to reboot the phone and even then I usually happens again! WTF! someone help or confirm this is a know problem??

It's not. The volume in cm9 with NEVER be like stock. You can try dsp manager or volume+, but like I said it'll never be stock. As far as the speaker issue is concerned, it's sounds like a hardware issue not a software issue
I have noticed the Max volume on CM9 is quite low, I have to get some extreme sounds for my alarm.

Also 720p video recording does not work and makes my phone force close the app. Sometimes the camera app actually triggers my speaker to stop. I don't believe the speaker failure is a hardware problem I've been using stock 2.3.3 for almost a year with no problems what so ever but with in a month of using cm9 i get this problem typically once a day. That's what leads me to believe cm9 is the cause.

720p does work, I've used it..In order for 720 to work you need to use the correct kernel and wipe everything, not just dalvik cache. There is nothing in the rom that work cause your speakers to act that way, and as I've been developing since android 1.0 (and on cm for over 6 years) I know what I'm talking about. It may be a corrupt download that's the cause, but in general there has never been this issue related to the speaker brought up nor any complaints about 720p when done correctly. Sorry if any of this sounds rude, it's not meant to be

I'm using the included kernel in CM9 RC2, can you supply the kernel that allows me to use 720p? and whats the difference? If you don't have speakers problems with it I'll give it a try. Like I said no speaker problems what so ever on stock GB.... that's why I find this odd.
I clean installed the "stable" release of CM10 the other day when it came out. My Bluetooth audio has been horrible since. The volume is really low but worse is that the quality is not good either. For phone calls it's use able but I connect it to my car and play music on it too. Needless to say, it makes the music just awful. I also use it with my Big Jambox in the house and this is awful too. I tried wired connection with the Jambox and it was great so it seems to be only Bluetooth audio. I was on CM10 night lies before flashing the stable one. I have tried clean installing the night lies that came after and still the same problem. One thing I haven't tried is clean installing the night lies before the stable version, like I had before. I just wanted to see if others are having this problem and if there is a fix for it first.
I am having the same problem. Is there a fix for this yet? I've been searching and found something about replacing a line in a .conf file however it was posted in gs2 forum.

I just went back to the Experimental one before they released the stable and of course, the bluetooth audio is back to being good. Haven't flashed any of the nightlies since then. Anyone try the latest nightlies and see if any of them work?
Making a call (to any number... I called my voicemail) then hanging up will fix the quality. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.
Hi,
Coming from gnex... so I'm used to stock android ROMs...
So I flashed CM10 and another ASOP ROM onto the gs3... Having two issues...
1) I found that Google Music does not start playing when I connect to bluetooth with my car stereo... even if I press the button on the bluetooth.. I have to start Music manually.
2) The music quality is horrible... there's no bass at all... something is really wrong here... even playing with EQ it does not do anything... sound is very hollow... flat....
I never had these problems with my gnex and stock android roms... even the stock touchwiz for the gs3 from bell it was fine...
Anyone has any ideas?? I really don't want to put touchwiz roms on... If there's no workaround... I think I'm gonna get a nexus4.....
thanks!
This seems to be a common problem with Jelly Bean roms. My phone does the same thing. There are threads in the forums with temporary fixes, but I would say stick it out for another couple days until 4.2 becomes available to us from the developers. PLEASE don't go back to TouchWiz :crying: the nightmares.
-Brandon
I just hope 4.2 comes out soon... I miss my gnex....

Not sure if you're experiencing this issue I'm about to tell you about, or something else.
But a release or two ago (not sure if it's fixed yet), the bass was "broken" for bluetooth on CyanogenMOD/AOSP.
Everyone who updated their CM10 started to experience a loss of bass when using bluetooth.
Prior to that it had been fine.
If it hasn't been fixed yet, I'm sure it will be soon. There is a "workaround fix" listed in the CM10 thread.
In general though, music via bluetooth is a big step down in audio quality vs. using the USB audio, which is now working in CM10.

those threads can get so long... hard to follow every post..
So it seems the workaround is to make a call beforehand...
Are there any vanilla android roms that don't have bluetooth issues for our s3?
TW roms seem to have crappy battery life...
Hello Community,
I have recently updated my Note 2 from Macksrom to Carbon Rom 4.4. The upgrade is awesome, very fast, looks pretty. Just all good, till i plugged in my headphones.
Now, I am quite adept at changing the rom on my phone, done this many times, and never had this issue before. So my question to you is, is anyone else having issues with their headphones on kit kat?
Tech stuff:
When rom was installed, data, cache, and dalvik were wiped. The proper gapps was installed. I use CWM.
When playing music on my speaker, it works just fine. When i plug the headphones in it does not work unless i'm at the home screen. When I try to open an app the sound is gone, when i check notifications sound is gone, and when i lock the device, guess what sound is gone. I can do all the aforementioned tasks with out a problem when playing music through the speaker. Just can't with the headphones.
Now i have tried a few things to resolve the issue, i have uninstalled the music application, I have removed the dsps i have in place, i have rebooted the phone numerous times with headphones plugged in and out. Tried different pair of headphones, and yield same result.
So for now i've run dry, I would not want to downgrade to macks rom again. But if my headphones won't work on my device i will do so.
Any input would be helpful.
****** EDIT ****** Forgot to do this earlier, but there is a workaround for this issue. I have posted another blog on what needs to be done to get your headphones to work. Follow link below.

Well, isn't that something... That really sucks, i really wanted 4.4 to work... oh well guess i'll flash macksrom again... thanks for the tip man...
I have the latest version of CM13 on my Verizon LG G3. I don't remember when exactly this started, but it was recent. Any audio through the headphone jack makes strange noises. It started out at as white noise, very quiet, and as far as I could tell, only around when audio was not playing. Now it has progressed to being quite a bit louder, with the most annoying addition being the crackling/distortion/chirping sound that plays along with any audio, even louder than the audio when above 3 clicks of volume. It sounds very similar to a blown transducer in my earbuds or headphones. That noise switches ears at random, though never during listening. There is also an extremely loud popping noise when I turn the equalizer on or off. I have fresh installed CM13 and that didn't help. I know all of this is an issue with CM13 because I tried two other ROMs today, the latest version of Skydragon and XenonHD, the former lollipop and the latter marshmallow, and neither made those noises. (Neither of which I can use by the way, because I couldn't get either to realize I had a SIM card). I also tried all of the same headphones on other devices, and no noise. I'm open to either a fix for the audio issue, a fix for either of those other two ROMs so that I can just switch to one of those, or even a third ROM you know that actually works, but I'd like best to fix CM13. Aside from all that, Mortal Kombat X runs really laggy on my phone. How could I get it to run better? I score 47,000 on the new Antutu, what is the highest possible with my device? I don't want to get into overclocking, because the game already near melts my phone after a while and eats battery, but I'd be interested in hearing about what's possible with it anyway, along with other methods of speeding up. I've also been interested in dialing screen resolution down to 720p, which would help the problem and save battery, but I haven't been able to find a method that works. Thanks for reading if you got this far!
I'm having the same issue.
Fresh install of cm13. Only when the audio Is playing, and every time I start and stop the audio, it makes a loud pop.
This is a software issue, is there a fix soon?

No idea, that's what I'm asking. I fresh installed too. I have a really loud pop when turning on or off the equalizer, which I forgot to mention.
I've had the headphone issue for at least a few weeks on the CM13 nightlies. Flashing the 777 kernel (R22) fixes it for me, so it must me an issue in the CM13 kernel.
