[Q] Downgrading Lesson? Anyone? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello Friends,
Bought a Sprint Note 2 with 4.1.2 installed on it, unrooted. (Don't remember the OTA build number).
I rooted via the Toolkit, Installed TWRP, and currently have Synergy MC2 installed, with the Baseband, reading the same thing under About Phone menu.
I am going to attempt the flash the phone to Verizon, which is what I have, but it appears that the 16 digit Samsung password required for CDMA Workshop, does not work for the Note 2 4.1.2 release, but still works on 4.1.1.
I need someone's help in telling me exactly how I can safely downgrade with the Radio, as well? Preferably, not losing Root, and then once the flash is completed, coming back to MC2?
I appreciate all your help in advance! Thanks!

No one... guys ?

You can just flash ljc rom and baseband from recovery.

Thank you Sir, appreciate that! Coming from HTC, I believe there were proper steps to follow to safely downgrade or upgrade Radios (Modems) and maybe even firmware...
Thanks!

Nope just wipe cache and dalvic etc... or use the one click option like mc2 stock restore or even stock with root access with a simple click through an exe
Can't remember where but it's on here somewhere.

Downgrading thru odin from 4.1.2 TW to 4.1.1 TW thru Odin is a little bit more tricky due to Sboot.bin not wanting to revert so you have to use a modified tar without the sboot or packed with the 4.1.2 sboot or else the odin flash will fail when it reaches the sboot partition. For a temporary downgrade like hes looking for its simpler to flash the rom and baseband via recovery. If you want to downgrade more permanently then there's ways to full downgrade everything but it's a little bit of work.

[Q] How do I ditch cm10?

alrighty then. I have been playing with my phone for about 2 hours now trying to figure out how to get rid of CM10 so I can flash a new ROM. (had to find dev options etc.) I tried flashing a recovery image through the SGS tool kit, still had CM10. I tried re-rooting (not advised, had a small stroke while figuring out if I bricked or soft bricked) I just did a system wipe, also ill advised, it warned me that I had no OS (thats why we make nandroids like good lil boys and girls.)
For the love of Jeebus someone please tell me how to get CM10 off of my phone so I can flash a new ROM. can I un-root and re-root and start from scratch that way? is that proper? is there an easier way? Why am I asking all these questions?! (because no matter what, I will always be a NooB -.-')
I appreciate any insight you guys can give me, thanks in advance!

Fairly simple just download another non cm10 ROM as you did to install cm10 in the first place. If you are unsure of what to do read the instructions in the OP of the ROM you want.

I appreciate the reply, im hesitant to flash over cm10 though. I seem to remember always having to reflash back to stock (root) before flashinga new ROM, I never encountered any problems when doing so.

its a habit from the Vibrant. flashing back to stock prevented the possibility of "ghost files." it just kind of ensured everything rolled along smoothly. The reality is that flashing over CM10 is looking like my only option without having to break out good Ol' Command Prompt lol. I appreciate your help guys.!

TWRP. I was trying to flash Jellybam over CM10 . I got stuck in a boot loop, soft bricked it twice and removed my OS once (able to recover from TWRP) im playing around with it tonight.

Rooting using sprint samsung galaxy note 2 toolkit but correct version not listed..

Okay, I just had to go through 6 hours of fighting to get my phone un rooted and fought harder to get teamwin off. I finally have the stock rom installed and is fully updated. That's my problem when going to reroot it. Using the tool kit there is no option for running 4.1.2 and that's what I now have. Well 4.1.2 MA7.. Can I still use the one for 4.1.1? Are there any forthcoming updates SOON?
Any help greatly appreciated. Btw.. This is Sprint variant.
Thanks guys!

Twrp didn't cause your problems. Your lack of reading caused your problems. Maybe you shouldn't mess with your phone since you can't take a few minutes to read about what you're doing before you do it.

The toolkit isn't updated to work on MA7 yet. Just use this. It is really simple. Literally takes 30 secs and works for MA7. After you are rooted you can install whatever recovery you want.

The easiest way to root is to odin a recovery and then flash the su zip and su bin. Which I'm assuming is what the toolkit does it just automates it for noobs(I haven't used it since I went the odin recovery and flash su route). You just have to make sure to uncheck auto reboot in odin then when you're done pull the battery and boot straight into recovery so the system doesn't re flash stock recovery on boot.

Hey it's pretty simple. Go here, like we said before, download required files and root your phone in less than 30 secs. Then either go here for TWRP or install ROM Manager for CWM. Install the one of your choice and then go download the ROM of your choice. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or super genius. Doesn't even take a whole lot of reading.
Btw, there is a thread in here that is a one click to UN root and reset flash counter, takes all of 3 minutes to run and get phone back up.
Option 42 does work, 42, 2, 3, 1 for cwm or 2 for twrp. Easy.
~swyped from a galaxy (note 2) far far away
Just a heads up with the newest samsung driver and windows 8 I was able to root my friends MA7 Note2 with the toolkit even though it didn't show it.

Assert failed: getprop("ro.bootloader") on flash

I just flashed CM10.1 on my Sprint S3.
I am trying to flash the latest nightly and I am getting the following error in both CWM and TWRP
Assert failed: getprop("ro.bootloader" == "l710vpbLj7" ... and it repeats that line specific to other versions (L710VPBMA6 etc)
I had an older version of CWM ... but still a 6+ when I flashed it. I since installed (via goomanager) TWRP as it looked cool. I started getting this error. Next, I used CWM to install the latest 6.0.3.1 version of CWM. It's still not wokring.
I seem to be able to download the goomanager latest DL and that's what I used to get the initial flashable zip.
Any ideas? I'm kinda at a loss. I'd do a full wipe but I'm afraid that if I do that I'll be SOL - as I have a current functional ROM right now.
Thoughts???

For the newer nightlies you have to have the MD4 bootloader/modem.

ugh.
Like I have time for this.
So, because I love to screw around like everybody else here ... I installed the kernal and firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947 and i f'ed up my phone. so, the phone won't boot past the galaxy splash screen. I guess now I'm looking for ODIN files.
*sigh* why can't i just leave well enough alone.
But, it does suck that we have to deal with this ... anybody have any ideas while I look for ODIN files?
This is the weirdest crap ever. But, at least this has a happy ending.
So, I couldn't get back into CWM. I kept screwing around and screwing around with it - finally got into CWM. Unreal.
So, FLASHED the Galaxy-S-fre3-MD4FirmwareModemAIO.zip file again - I cleared DALVIK and cache. I then went into the /cmupdate folder and flashed the latest nightly. To my delight, WOW, it's kinda crazy - but it flashed successfully and I'm now up and running with the latest NIGHTLY.
SOLUTION -
FLASH the Galaxy-S-fre3-MD4FirmwareModemAIO.zip file
Clear CACHE and DALVIK
reboot - I guess (btw, stay away from the kernal one unless you're just dying to get it)
and you should be good to go ... if you're like me anyways.
later. thx for the link to the help file.

I looked at your link in your sig initially - I agree - lots of stuff there. But, at the same time - the word "sprint" doesn't even show up on the page. I am also not familiar with the naming of the Sprint SPH-L710 as T999 and shy away from the possibility of flashing the wrong variation of zips on my Sprint phone. So, sorry I may have missed what may have been obvious - I am still researching what this may mean for my future reference.
The http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947 link specifically mentioned the MD4 firmware specific to Sprint. My only screwup was flashing the kernel zip - that was boneheaded. But, clearly, reflashing the nightly problem fixed that for me. So, no harm done.
thanks again for your help - you absolutely sent me in the right direction. I have several other people that are being resolved too.

The SPH-L710 is the sprint s3, you were in the international(i9300) forum earlier as well. DO NOT flash anything for any model except the SPH-L710, especially international roms and kernels, unless you want a new paperweight/door stop. You need to take a break and do some thorough reading before you break your new toy.

It's all good I was just wondering who was confused there, and wanted to clear it up before something bad happens. With all the different models of s3 gotta be extra careful to avoid bricking. I always recommend everyone to go by the model number and not the device name just to be safe.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy Note 2 firmware upgrade encountered an issue

I have a sprint galaxy note 2 and had a custom rom on it. I wanted the stock rom back, so I downloaded it and used odin to put it on my phone. It failed and is now giving me the whole,"select recovery mode in kies and try and again" message. Recovery mode (volume up, home and power) isn't working and kies isn't detecting my device. I'm an absolute noob when it comes to this stuff.
Always try to stay away from odin. Use twrp recovery at all times unless it's really needed
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
You need to be in download mode to use Kies, vol-, home and power then vol+ to confirm. There's absolutely nothing wrong with using Odin, it's actually much safer than using recovery, especially using one-click packages. Put it in download mode then connect it to kies and see if that gets it working again. If not I have some other tricks you can try but we'll take it one step at a time.

Always try to stay away from odin. Use twrp recovery at all times unless it's really needed

This post is very old, but what is wrong with Odin? I use Odin all the time, when going back to stock, and never had a problem.. TWRP on the other hand will cause issues at time, and can not be used exclusively.

I know this now lol thus why this is old
Sent from out of earth from a far, far galaxy!

[q] gt-i317m telus (i317mvlalj2)

did some reading but didnt really find what i was looking for in this section.
i have the Note 2. v 4.1.2 but i want to downgrade to 4.1.1 so that i can unlock my device so i can use any carrier.
but then i would want to do the 4.1.2 update again completely stock from the OTA or whatever its called. and still have it permanently unlocked from the previous 4.1.1
should i use odin and a stock 4.1.1tar file for the PDA to flash it or would this be the wrong way of doing this and possibly voiding my warrenty
Well there's a few ways of doing that. The way you mentioned!
But you can also just downgrade your modem to the J2, and you can perform the unlock that way... But if unsure about what your doing, do some research..

so are you saying to only flash the modem with the I317MVLALJ2 modem and thats it... because i do know how to flash with odin. i did it with my first galaxy and for some reason the micro sd slot stopped working. so i was thinking this method would screw up my note 2. i just want to downgrade to unlock it then re update
this was the method i was going to go with. what would you say?!

Yes! :thumbup:Looks like any regular Rom flash using Odin. But I usually use Odin when flashing back to completely stock...
Another method if your rooted, like I said you can flash just the modem thru the recovery...
But I think you should do some reading on all this. Imho

well i am not rooted and i want to go back to COMPLETE stock. so i will go with ODIN. I haven't figured out the benefits of a rooted device. other then screen recording and a few little things here. then again i havent gotten deep into it to see what the benefits are.
but if you know some awesome things that benefit having a rooted device do share
**Did the Odin Stock restore to a 4.1.1 worked without any problems. and got my unlock going. very pleased. now to think about possible rooting hmmm.*****

I root to freeze a bunch of useless system apps. That alone is enough for me.
Rooting is only 1 part of a very large puzzle when you are talking about modification ...
Root is only a tool ...
And the real fun starts when you can build and theme or modify any number of parts inside your device ...
You don't own it unless it's rooted ...and you'll never fully enjoy it until you make the changes that unleash what these devices are capable of ...
And that starts by reading and learning ...then reading and learning more...
Then you will be on your way to making the phone truly yours ....g
