I just flashed CM10.1 on my Sprint S3.
I am trying to flash the latest nightly and I am getting the following error in both CWM and TWRP
Assert failed: getprop("ro.bootloader" == "l710vpbLj7" ... and it repeats that line specific to other versions (L710VPBMA6 etc)
I had an older version of CWM ... but still a 6+ when I flashed it. I since installed (via goomanager) TWRP as it looked cool. I started getting this error. Next, I used CWM to install the latest 6.0.3.1 version of CWM. It's still not wokring.
I seem to be able to download the goomanager latest DL and that's what I used to get the initial flashable zip.
Any ideas? I'm kinda at a loss. I'd do a full wipe but I'm afraid that if I do that I'll be SOL - as I have a current functional ROM right now.
Thoughts???

What does this mean????
For the newer nightlies you have to have the MD4 bootloader/modem.

Download the rom directly from the cm page. Not through GooManager.

Refer to this. Should have some clarity.

After reading head into a terminal and type
getprop ro.bootloader
It will tell you your current bootloader version.

ugh.
Like I have time for this.
So, because I love to screw around like everybody else here ... I installed the kernal and firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947 and i f'ed up my phone. so, the phone won't boot past the galaxy splash screen. I guess now I'm looking for ODIN files.
*sigh* why can't i just leave well enough alone.
But, it does suck that we have to deal with this ... anybody have any ideas while I look for ODIN files?
This is the weirdest crap ever. But, at least this has a happy ending.
So, I couldn't get back into CWM. I kept screwing around and screwing around with it - finally got into CWM. Unreal.
So, FLASHED the Galaxy-S-fre3-MD4FirmwareModemAIO.zip file again - I cleared DALVIK and cache. I then went into the /cmupdate folder and flashed the latest nightly. To my delight, WOW, it's kinda crazy - but it flashed successfully and I'm now up and running with the latest NIGHTLY.
SOLUTION -
FLASH the Galaxy-S-fre3-MD4FirmwareModemAIO.zip file
Clear CACHE and DALVIK
reboot - I guess (btw, stay away from the kernal one unless you're just dying to get it)
and you should be good to go ... if you're like me anyways.
later. thx for the link to the help file.

The signature is the section on a member's profile page where you can provide useful information, such as links to one's own work, guides, drivers, etc..
I have a link in my signature that takes you directly to the official T999 Firmwares/OTA and Root66 thread.

I looked at your link in your sig initially - I agree - lots of stuff there. But, at the same time - the word "sprint" doesn't even show up on the page. I am also not familiar with the naming of the Sprint SPH-L710 as T999 and shy away from the possibility of flashing the wrong variation of zips on my Sprint phone. So, sorry I may have missed what may have been obvious - I am still researching what this may mean for my future reference.
The http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947 link specifically mentioned the MD4 firmware specific to Sprint. My only screwup was flashing the kernel zip - that was boneheaded. But, clearly, reflashing the nightly problem fixed that for me. So, no harm done.
thanks again for your help - you absolutely sent me in the right direction. I have several other people that are being resolved too.

Update - oh, the other link in you sig. Ok, I see where you were going - I was looking at the wrong link. The terminology of the "trouble flashing latest builds" didn't stick out to me. Still - thanks.

The SPH-L710 is the sprint s3, you were in the international(i9300) forum earlier as well. DO NOT flash anything for any model except the SPH-L710, especially international roms and kernels, unless you want a new paperweight/door stop. You need to take a break and do some thorough reading before you break your new toy.

It's all good I was just wondering who was confused there, and wanted to clear it up before something bad happens. With all the different models of s3 gotta be extra careful to avoid bricking. I always recommend everyone to go by the model number and not the device name just to be safe.

I'm a noob, but not a noob, k?
I've flased a dozen roms already, but for the life of me, after cleaning up everything, took the following steps:
Wiped data/factory reset
Wiped cache partition
Advanced > Wiped Dalvik Cache
Then
Install .zip from sd card - Selected ThunderHawk-4.zip
It goes like this:
Opening a Black hole...
Initializing Systems...
Mounting File System...
MTD System Detected...
Reticulating Splines...
Formatting /System.....
Formatting /Cache......
Formatting /Data.......
Installing RandomROM...
file_getprop: failed to stat "/sdscard/clockworkm
od/options.cfg": No such file or directory
E:Error in /sdcard/ThunderHawk_V.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I don't get it...
Can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong?
Suggestions would really help Ya'll are awesome!
follow RandomKing's instructions (as found on his blog site) for putting an options.cfg file in place before the install. His original doc mentions that it's optional but I think his installer is not creating a file if one does not already exist.
That WORKED!
Did exactly what you said, and it worked.
For future reference for others wondering:
Visit the blog
[(REPLACE "XX" with "tt") hxxp://randomkings.wordpress.com/android/samsung-epic-4g/gingerbread-2/ ]
Read under Installation Steps, you'll see Optional Customization all the info you'll need is right there.
Download the options.cfg file, open with notepad - edit to your preference, and send it to sdcard/clockworkmod/(paste-options.cfg in under backups) you'll be all set. Go into CWM Recovery and install from zip as you normally would.
Thanks so much for the tip, and helping me out!

oh one thing worth mentioning: RandomKing has released ThunderHawk V now. Interestingly, it carries a label saying FC09 but it's still actually using EL30.
I believe the reason behind that is to cut down on the "Install update" messages coming from Samsprint. He has started a new thread for ThunderHawk V in the dev forums.
It is FC09 just the kernel is EL30.

Yup. Most people don't seem to know, but you can use almost any Gingerbread Kernel without issue. But I'll be adding in an FC09 kernel soon enough thanks to Bbelos.

How common is this I would likevcto flash some roms and all that good stuff. I have been reading about people phones not working after rooting and applying a Rom. Should I be worried ? Should I wait? And if it's all good any methods that worked cleanly for other people ? Thanks in advance

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I wouldn't say its very common as there are tons of people flashing and we dont hear about half the forum crying about corrupting their imei, thats not to say that its a non issue though. As you can probably see from the numerous threads (main one in the att development). Its advisable to wait, but with any flash you know the risk you are taking.
I was actually holding off till yesterday, ended up just saying eff it and flashed, did the non trip rooting, flashed the latest cwm from the official cwm site. Flashed Aokp, no imei wipe (was scared ****less the whole time though ) Decided i didnt even like the AOKP rom and flashed my carriers stock rom again through odin, So far so good.
However in the future im waiting for a full solution to this imei problem before i root or flash again. :good:
Id say just read the threads, if you understand the risks and want to proceed go ahead. good luck

i flashed my phone with the original at&t root method (which increased flash counter). since then, i've flashed the stock rom (UCALEM) to get non-modified status, reset the flash counter, and flashed the stock update rom (UCALG1) with no problems so far. i wasn't even aware of the imei issues until poking around the forums the other day. i suppose ignorance really is bliss.
---------- Post added at 08:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:00 PM ----------
i should add.. i used the stock root injected roms (after the initial flash) from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
So ish there a chance even if we follow AT&T stuff directly? I've never heard of this happening I've had and flashed a lot of phones and never heard of such a thing should we worry or what I wanna flash but don't won't a brick

i think there's always the chance... but you can reduce that chance significantly if you read up and follow the directions.
Hello I tried to flash my radio following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1825112. There were no errors or anything in cmw and after i rebooted my s3, i ended up with this. Anybody got this before or found a way to fix it?
Try redownloading, on wifi if possible, then reflash again. I think I saw someone else have that happen and it was a corrupted download.
Read thru the thread again if you want to double check, couldn't hurt!
Check the md5 sum first.

exactly this, re-download it and and flash again.
i did try to download it throught wifi and reflash it like it says in the thread but still no luck. I just read that someone tried to flash a wind mobile version and mine is mobilicity. Both are T999V version, i guess thats where the problem is, flashing a T999 radio for T999V. Does anyone know where I can find a mobilicity T999V stock radio or anyway i can get back my old radio. I did flash the second zip which supposebly makes a copy of your old radio before I flashed the radio. Does anyone know where this backup is located or where i can a mobilicity t999v radio?
Appears to me that he wrote the backup into the script that flashes the new one! Awesome!!!!
Check in /data/media
Looks like it may have saved your original as modem.backup when you flashed the new radio. If its there then flash the restore zip and hopefully you will be back to your original.
Even if its not there, flash the restore, always possible I read it wrong.

No worries. I added to my last post about that. Search for root file explorer in market and you should be able to find a free one there. I use Root Explorer which is paid, but check the one by jrummy. I think his free one may do what you need.
Not sure about the backup on your sdcard. Can you tell if the date created matches close to when you flashed?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
ok so i downloaded the 1 by jrummy and i open data rwxrwx--x than i open media and its basically a copy of my internal sdcard and i checked the time of the backup and it says 10:51pm (original backup was this around 3:00) so im guessing i screwed myself over by rewriting over my original modem backup.
One more thing I just thought of and it may cause more headaches...
Did you try to flash the radio more than once? If so it may have overwritten the original modem.backup.
If that is the case you may need to get someone else with a T999V to backup theirs for you. The guy you mentioned who had the same problem may have one already. Might want to PM him. Also you could post in the original thread and someone else may have it already. Also I think there is a thread on here dedicated to Canadian users which I think is for the T999V.
If you find one copy it into /data/media making sure to change the permissions to match the previous backup you overwrite. Then flash the restore.
If you only flashed it once then you shouldn't have to worry about all that.

yes i think we're both right, i did overwrite the original backup. i shouldnt have panicked and waited a couple of hours and everything would be back to normal now. I did pm 2 people who messed up like me and 1 of them was able revert back to original modem but that person was using wind mobile s3. I bought the my s3 from mobilicity, unlocked it and inserted my wind sim card but my modem would mobilicity t999v modem right? Would wind modem work for me? they are both t999v versions. and i dont know how to changethe permissions to match previous backup.
i appreciate your help man, you helped me clear up some things. thank you
oh i also cant post in the original thread because i need more than 10 posts lol

ok so i downloaded the 1 by jrummy and i open data rwxrwx--x than i open media and its basically a copy of my internal sdcard and i checked the time of the backup and it says 10:51pm (original backup was this around 3:00) so im guessing i screwed myself over by rewriting over my original modem backup.

Damn, I was hoping that didn't happen! Sorry for the bad advice in the beginning of this thread. Had no idea that it would overwrite the backup....
I think your next best step would be to post in the original thread and/or pm a request for the modem.backup file for your version.
I know it sucks going thru all this but all is not lost. If I can help anymore let me know, but I think you just need someone with that file now.
Again, I'm sorry for the poor guidance earlier....

Lol, everytime I post, I hit refresh and you've already responded with what I was trying to say.
Ill post a request in the thread for you. I'm thinking the Wind and Mobilicity are likely compatible both being T999V, but I don't want to go on assumptions any more on this one! Ill ask about that over there as well.

dont feel bad dude! i actually overwrote my backup waaay before you started helping me out lol so its not your fault at all lol but im confused if you are replying to my last post or my 2nd last post lol. still wondering if all T999V models (wind, mobilicity, videotron) have the same modem or I have to find mobilicity modem to go back to normal.
ok so i found a site that lets you download the latest firmware for t999v and i checked all 3 firmwares (videotron wind and mobilicity) and they are all
T999VVLALE6 so i am guessing they are all compatible. the only thing confuses me is the dude that tried it with wind, he posted a link of his modem after flash and this is the file name t999vvlle6_modem...the only thing thats missing is the letter "a" lol
I just posted the request. Also asked if any other unforseen problems could occur if you do try flashing the Wind version. I don't think it would change the situation at this point, but I also didn't realize this could happen to begin with!
I think u would be safe, but can't guarantee it!
Problem with that missing "a" is that it could be a typo when he renamed the backup, or it could be different software...if he's still online could you pm him to verify?

The more I think about it the more it seems like a typo. All 3 have same version on firmware download site so....
Honestly, if it were me, id probably give it a shot. But thats me!
Naturally there is the risk, so its entirely up to you. If you decide not to try, it just comes down to waiting for a response.

Heh. Just noticed I missed the part wher u said u bought from mobilicity but are on Winds network. Reinforces my thinking that the wind modem will work...it may even be better if they are different.
Still though, its your call!
To change permissions long press yhe file you want to change and it should have permissions in the popup menu.
Ill check what the correct ones are and get back to you in a few.

thanks dude you pretty much asked all the questions i had in mind. i read somewhere that flashing the stock firmware might fix this problem so im gonna try that i before i go to sleep. the question i have in mind which firmware should i download, mobilicity or wind. i bought the phone from mobilicity (no plan, no simcard) unlocked it and used my wind sim card so im guessing its still a mobilicity phone?
ok so I finally got my sgh-t999L through warranty exchange, and i'm excited to play with it. I rooted it with motochopper and have been looking around, but can't find anything quite concrete, seeing as the original threads discussing the t999L are rather dated. What is the progress on the stock odin? have most roms updated their scripts to include the t999L? Can I flash my previous rom with little to no issues?
Fimrware and radios I'm already aware, albeit I'm concerned about mb7 as it feels a little hot during use. kernels and roms it seems are ok, but I'm curious if there are extra steps to do and such. I can flash twrp 2.6 through odin right?

I wouldn't say any of it is dated...its barely been out over a month if I'm remembering right. And the development thread is still fairly active. I am stalled on the Odin part until we get another dump of some of the partitions, (motodefiers working on that) but this really is a non issue anyway. It may take an extra step or two but we can easily get the same result as a full firmware flash already.
Besides, other than kernel, system and recovery, everything should still be MB7 on your phone, and you should not be looking at changing that.
As far as roms having added the asserts, I don't know. The only way to know is to try them. Or open them and check the asserts.
And what is your previous rom? Cant tell you anything about it unless I know what it is. Why are you concerned over mb7 firmware. I wouldn't put much worry about that as its all that's available for now. What extra steps are you looking for? What is it you are trying to do?
And yes, you can flash 2.6.0.0 twrp.

Not dated like really old, but at that time you hadn't made much progress. Just found your thread about the stock rom. So you have made much progress. At the moment I was furrently running vanilla rootbox latest nightly, hiw would I check asserts? Not really worried about changing firmware, just felt a little hot. This being new I understand there are no other radios.
Also thanks for the quick reply

I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. I think I misunderstood something earlier, but ant rom you see in this forum should work fine, its just some won't flash without "help".
The asserts ar in the updater scripts. They determine if certain properties match before allowing something to flash.
Ill be posting a lot of info soon...

Tyvm. It will come in handy. I haven't even gotten to the ROM flash yet, though I have installed twrp. Will be creating a new thread... But I'm having the WEIRDEST bug trying to pull everything off my internal SD on my t999. If its more than one file, windows gets stuck on "calculating time required to copy"
