Anyone else get an update notification today? I flashed the last one a couple months ago.. I'm on 4.1.2, L710, MB1.
Don't know what it could be, and don't remember how I flashed the last OTA...something like install, boot to loader and fix recovery...it wasn't hard but just can't remember.

That's the MD4 update. Premium suite. There are a number of threads open that cover this topic:
1. MD4 Discussion [OTA Link] [Fixes/Links/Info/Discussion]
2. stock update today??
3. S3 Won't update - Want to go original stock
4. New Update?
Edit:
If you have a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP), you won't be able to install this update. CNexus has a good tutorial on what's happening with OTAs. If you want the most updated rooted Rom, Freeza has a stock rooted ROM available on his thread over here. Choose the MD1 Deodex "FULL ROM."
Great thanks. I will check out those threads. I guess since my phone was a month late I didn't dig that far back. I'm not a daily xda reader so I didn't know there was the premium sweet update.

Well I got sick of the update notification so I just clicked install. It booted into CWM and applied the update. When I clicked reboot it asked me to fix recovery and protect root. No problems and now I have the latest update.
I'm on stock/rooted.

As of right now T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 known as SGH-T999UVLEM is upgrading to a newer Version which is SGH-T999UVLH2
I don't think the over the air (OTA) mode is working right now because I did many tries and it keep saying device up to date so if you want to try it us KIES. if you version of KIES is not up to date you will have to update it first then you will be able to upgrade the phone.
it will take about 10 to 15 minutes of your time and it will depend on your connection.
everything like root will be gone after the update. :victory:
ok after you update, you will be able to go back and use the same method you use to to root the older version and install a different boot.
mine is working fine I don't find any problem yet.
This doesn't belong here

I keep getting an error while trying to take the update. Is it really needed? I'm already running detoxed stock Rom.

You can't do ota updates if you're rooted and running a custom recovery. Devs are already working on a flash zip

Is there a CWM flash-able update yet? And yes, I have looked, but may have missed it.
My friends has a gs3 he purchased on release day and rooted it. The past week he accepted two ota's which broke his root. So I'm trying to root it for him but here's where the confusion kicks in. On sprints website it actually show these updates are old and not new and there's two more recent ones he never got pushed to him. Right now the phone is on LG2 and won't update any further. What do I need to do to be up to date with root. Should I just look for a way to root this build or try updating it. By the way I haven't seen any root methods for this build which is why I'm asking. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds

Thank you! One more question. I'm reading but I don't see anything regarding data wiped. So does doing any of these steps wipe out all data?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
The method he used to root it in the first place should work again. Try that.
Then once it's rooted again go to this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
Download the file "LI3 STOCK WITH AUTO COUNTER RESET" in the first post and flash the file in recovery. That will put the phone to 100%stock, unrooted, on the latest build.
From that point, if he wants to, he can reroot the phone and install the latest TWRP recovery. After that, tell him not to accept any OTA updates. Come back here to the development forum and someone will have the update in flashable form so that root isn't lost.

Yup thats the most easy way of doing it. you say ur not rooted but do you have custom recovery? If so then re rooting before the flash wouldn't be necessary.
It will not wipe data however its recommended that you do. granted it will probably work just fine if it being installed over top of a stock Rom. Then to keep root/recovery just follow the instructions in the post

I'm not sure if he has a custom recovery but I'm assuming if he was able to accept ota's and install them fine he must have stock recovery. I'll have to check and see a lil later as he's at work now.

Sprints update system sucks......As for odin, you select the file you want to flash and click start......pretty stupid proof if you ask me. There is a .tar for the most recent update and the jellybean leak available in the development section.

Yes it is stupid proof but it also makes you have to take an extra step to reset the count. On my phone I just deal with the Odin OC which don't mess with your counts and come rooted then mobile Odin for the rest. Never have to worry about a flash count. But anyways thanks for all the help guys! I'm going to try and get this done tonight. Even though we both going for the note 2 in just a matter of days

If you are stock with stock recovery the OTA should work.
What was the error you received?
You posted this on the wrong section. This is for Android development. What where you trying to flash. If you are completely stock it should just be a ota that you click install and it does the update by itself.

MA6 to MB1
Thanks to these forums and QBKing77. I decided to root my phone just a couple days ago.
Before doing so I performed the upgrade to MA6 manually to a completely stock not rooted device. (Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3)
I then with QBKing77's videos rooted with the CWM Recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743780
Then This morning I got notified of an OTA update, but it would not work unless I went back to the Stock recovery which I performed.
The OTA update then took place without a hitch. (Well Sort of) Root access was lost. SuperUser still appeared in the App Drawer, but would not work. Root Checker Basic Verified the Root was no longer in place.
NO Pre-Exsisting APPs Or DATA was at all effected. All remains intact.
I re-rooted the same as I had before and all is well.
I know I am a complete Noob with all of this but wanted to share my experience so others noobs or not may benefit.
I observed the following:
1. Stock recovery should be installed for OTA updates.
2. Does Not Matter if Rooted or Not.
3. If Rooted...You will need to re-root.
I can not speak for any custom roms as I was only stock rooted.
I recently heard about the new update to T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 phones, but I can't seem to update it because every time that I try I receive the error message "Your device has been modified. Software u[dates are not available". Every answer that I search for talks about factory resetting the phone. is there anyway to Unroot this phone and upgrade it without having to wipe all of my data? The phone won;t let me transfer any of my apps to my SD card, so it would be a painful process trying to reinstall everything.
When I try to install SuperSu from google play it says " There is no Su binary installed, and SuperSu cannot install it. This is a problem!".
I have no idea what I have done and I have no idea how to fix it.
Still need help here, I can't seem to install any updates from the Recovery menu either.
Do you have a custom recovery? Why not just flash a updated stock rom? Or u can always just odin the new update tar

I don't understand half of the stuff that you just said.
I don''t have any recovery and I don't want to lose my data if I flashed my phone to a different rom, which has happened before.
The last time I flashed a phone was back in 2010, and with all of the new methods out there i wouldn't want to mess up my phone and brick it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228881 ull need a custom recovery, easy way would be the root kit exe http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957720

Hey guys,
I have looked around for the solution to this but can't find one.
Starting out rooted, I updated my phone to SkyNote 4.3 (not sure if that helps) and still had root for a minute. I went through the process of setting up the phone how I like it, and after a few restarts, the root went away. This has happened twice. I've read posts where people talked about Android 4.3 deleting root but here's where the story gets interesting:
The threads/posts that people are pointing to to fix it is pretty much centered around Chainfire's post on Google+ https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/Jkuu84odnx6 .
The difference between the similar posts are that Chainfire has updated the version over the months. I have tried flashing that update zip over and over but I still have no root and the SU app is still buried in my system/app folder, which of course I can't delete because I have no root. I guess my questions are does anyone know how to delete this system/app apk for SU without wiping and starting from another ROM or know how to correct it in general?
Thanks you guys for reading.

Thanks, I didn't think about that, but because of my unique situation, I couldn't even get 1click to recognize my phone. So after searching more and more, the answer is exactly what I was doing but a more updated SU zip. It's in the second post of SkyNote 4.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46798454&postcount=2
That may help another Android 4.3 ROM user

I have the exact same issue with my SGH_I317M. I rooted with CF-Root, flashed TWRP, flashed Skynote 4.3, flashed the update, flashed the Rogers modem and flashed the WIFI fix all with ODEN. Everything works. Even WIFI. But I lost Root. I made 2 full backups with TWRP. 1st. right after flashing TWRP still with 4.1.2 ROM and the 2nd after flashing 4.3 and all the patches. When I restore back to 4.1.2 all is good. When I restore to 4.3 Skynote, I loose Root. I tried flashing the SuperUser Update but it fails. Any help would be much appreciated.

My last comment should help. When you flash the update, make sure it's the one from the post above. It carries the latest SU. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to do, but it worked for me because the SU binaries want to update but it needs the correct one.

Thank you Deon. I was reading this thread yesterday using the XDA app on my mobile for the first time. I downloaded the updated binary from this thread using my mobile. After several install failures I opened propertie for the zip and discovered it was empty. I downloaded the update from the OP through my PC, transferred the file to my SD and now all is good again with my root. CHEERS!
