[Q] Question about firmware - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hello everyone,
This is my first post here although I have gotten plenty of helpful information from the site in venturing off into rooting and customizing my ION.
I have the Xperia Ion LT28at, which is rooted. I just had a warranty exchange on the phone due to the microphone completely going out. On my previous ION I rooted it and flashed the lt28i firmware to get rid of the att firmware. I noticed a problem after flashing lt28i firmware that I don't believe I encountered before. If I were to be listening to spotify or pandora with head phones or speakers plugged in, if I got a call during or even hours after of listening to music, I would get this weird underwater, alien sounding voice and I sounded the same way to the person on the other end. Has anyone else experienced this? With the new phone I have I'd like to put the deodexed lt28i firmware so I can do a few mods that require it to be deodexed and of course limited to roms due to the locked bootloader. Any Ideas?
Thanks

It might be, as I could be wrong, that it is caused by the cross flash of basebands. Try flashing every bit of int. fw except for baseband (or flashing the att baseband only)

Thanks. That thought actually crossed my mind today about flashing the att baseband only after installing the other firmware. Now is there a difference between the lt28h and lt28i firmware? I see here it states if you want the lt28h over the lt28i firmware with lte then flash just the baseband after installing the lt28h. I was just curious if there was a difference or advantage of one over the other since there is specific instructions in case someone would want the h over the i.

Not knowing what exactly to search for when I originally asked the question I wasn't sure if there was anything on here related. After browsing around a little I ran across 2 post answering discussing both of my questions, no answers on the baseband issue but I'll continue to follow. Thanks for the help. This could be deleted.

^^i too became aware of this problem yesterday...
Your scratchy garbled thing is a known bug with any LT28i ICS firmware being used on a Lt28at. To my knowledge; no one has been able to completely remove it unless running gingerbread or stock AT&T ICS....or the hybrid thing of Lt28h firmware with att baseband...
the weirder part, though, are these baseband flashing issues. That is the difference between the LT28h and i. The 'h' doesn't support LTE, and its firmware's baseband doesn't utilize it. So guys would run LT28h with an AT&T baseband, and NOT have this garbled thing, yet still have LTE.
So some of us figured running any AT&T baseband with LT28i firmware would remove the bug, right? Flashtool seemingly won't do it...it says the flash of the baseband is successful, but it doesn't change anything on the phone...
either way...I'd say just deal with it for the next week or so...JB will be out, and we'll have plenty of other bugs to figure out too haha.

We did indeed flash the at GB base band for the h ics firmware. I will say that the problem was still there with this setup though not as frequent. The only confirmed rom on at devices to not do it are the stock roms from att. Why we can not flash it now I have no idea. I also wounder if it still works for the h roms now?? I will also add that I did notice the issue more when going in and out of 4g. Now that 4g is on all over town it has not done it. I say that and it will tomorrow haha. All we can do is wait now and with two firmwares being leaked it cant be long before a ftf shows up somewhere.

has anyone tried flashing the ATT GB baseband over an LT28i ICS? I only tried ATT ICS baseband, which didn't change the version number (but i haven't had a garbled call since?)...

Noob questions on this new baseband

Im a Telus user so i dont need this new baseband or wifi calling update, but im seeing roms getting updated to include
Am i required to install this baseband? Is there a guide somewhere? I just see informal posts by people here and there and they always seem a bit different from one another.
For wifi calling, does it have an effect running on a phone on telus, or do i 'freeze' an app or something?
Ive seen that Juggernaut, possibly Beastmod, and so on, are including it. So i just want to know if i should be updating or if there will be complications without a baseband update. In fact, im not even 100% sure what the baseband is exactly?

Didnt have any mention of Telus.
Alright i did some rom installing, so my only question left is, Does the new modem work for telus users?

Blue Xperia Play 4g, need baseband..having problems

Hey guys, I was hoping I would'nt have to do this but i'm at a loss now.
I own the blue xperia play 4g phone and currently using it with straight talk service with their unlocked sim. Everything was fine until I decided to start trying out custom roms.
No matter what I tried, I could get them to load, work , function ect BUT I had weird issues where people could not hear me for the 1st call, but if I called them right back they could. It just seemed to be random and I could'nt put my finger on it.
So I flashed back to the stock 2.3.3 R800AT firmware, and then updated thru their Sony patch they made me do on the phone...and everything was fine again.
Well I got adventurous again, and UNLOCKED my bootloader. So NOW....after doing custom roms, I CANNOT reload my old R800at 2.3.3 firmware and get the OFFICIAL update from them. So i'm stuck with an upgradeable working 2.3.3 (this is the 2.3.3 before the update they put out, I know it does'nt go to 2.3.4. but its some kinda 2.3.3 update) with NO further updates.
So after tons of research i'm HOPING its the baseband I need ??? I dont know what else to do. Only other option is if some kind soul wants to send me over their AT&T r800AT 2.3.3 UPDATED firmware I'll just go back to stock but i'd prefer to keep using my custom roms!!!
***maybe if someone who has the blue xperia play 4g version, would post the "baseband" version they see on their phone, even that would help!!!***
Any help would be great and more than appreciated.
God bless and thanks guys,
Jason

Oh my friend, you are in the same boat as me. xD
All you need to do is get the stock 2.3.3 AT&T firmware, But you can also use r800i firmwares and update to 2.3.4 with the latest firmware.
Theres a thread somewhere containing the firmware, if not you can find it on google.
(Which is what im doing right now with straight talk) only negative thing I see is so far H instead of H+.
Dito on the baseband, the flashtool links with FTF 2.3.3 is down my phone is softbricked though

If alejandrissimo unlocked your phone you should have OTA updates. If you unlocked it with another method then im not sure what to tell you, gotta find the updated FTF files.
Guys good news here
I was correct in thinking it was the baseband on our phone that is causing the problem. I think its due to the fact we are 4g rather than 3g.
So how did i fix this problem??? Simple. I was able to use the doomkernel v13 (any seem to work), actually install the rom of choice, (i'm using Jokawild 2.5), and then downloaded/installed baseband file -36.
I also installed the -36 libs package that was somewhere posted on here its the new .386 version.
Everything is working now and i'm happy. Going to save the baseband/lib files so i have them forever incase something happens.
Take care, God bless and thank you for your input/time. I could'nt go another day with them stock at&t roms!!!!

Hello hello, I need your help. I've got the generic North Am. 2.3.4 (.42) and I'm having this problem. I've got an unlocked bootloader and I want to install the baseband file. Can I do that with a generic rom? What is the process for installing a baseband file and libs package? Where can I get these files? Thanks.

I think I have the same or a similar problem. I frequently encounter a similar situation where it could take 10+ seconds before the other person can hear me speak, but I can hear them the whole time. By now most of my friends and family know how to deal with it, but before they would just hang up on me. Then they could hear me if I called them. If I reboot the phone, it fixes it for a while, but then it comes back after some time and takes another reboot to resolve.
My phone is a SIM unlocked, bootloader locked Xperia Play R800a model from last year's Google I/O. It uses the same frequencies as AT&T for 3G and 2G and I'm using it on AT&T as well. I have the Generic North America 4.0.2.A.0.42 (Android 2.3.4) ROM installed, and it has Baseband 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028D-56.
I found a separate thread with the -36 Baseband here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469473
I'm considering flashing this over my current -56 Baseband to see if it improves the situation. As I recall, I never had this sort of trouble when I first got the phone. It's really only been since I updated to Firmware .42 that I've had these problems. Is it safe to do this?
Thanks!

I wanted to add that on Friday I installed the -36 baseband with mine and I'm getting 4G+ (I hit 12MBs at mobilespeedtest.com). And my calls have stopped being cut off.

Awesome! That's also funny because I also installed the -36 baseband last night. So far, so good. Calls and data both work as normal. I'll need to do more testing to be sure whether it fixed my problem or not.
Now did you just install the baseband or did you also flash or push the libs to it as well? All I did was use Flashtool to flash the baseband .ftf file.

[Q] Flashing ROM - Rooted but locked bootloader At&t

I have an At&t version of the Xperia Play (R800at). I have the phone rooted but the bootloader is still locked. I hate the bloated ROM that At&t has and wanted to flash a new one. I really like the Cola rom but it does not work on At&t. Is there a ROM I can flash on the stock At&t kernal that does not have all the bloat? I really just use the phone for calls, texting and games (mostly emulators). Can I go to another stock ROM? I would like 2.3.3 so I can run all of my converted PS1 games, I really don't want to reconvert them for 2.3.4. I do not know what info from my phone I would need to figure out what ROM to download and use. Any information would be greatly appriciated.
I have the same thing except my bootloader is unlocked. I've tried many of the roms on here myself but the baseband from AT&T doesn't give me the "can hear the other person but they cant hear me half the time" problem from the stock rom and I can get 4G on it whereas the other roms do not. Is there any roms that use the baseband from AT&T and get rid of the bloat or is there one that can just use the baseband from the stock rom? I used to have a Galaxy I so not being able to flash different basebands all the time is new to me.
--edit---
After poking around and ignoring some things different stuff said, I was able to get cyanogenmod 7.2 (freexperia) on my phone and I then installed the -36 baseband and libs after and everything appears to be working good so far. Going to test a bit with phone calls yet, but as long as I can get online and my phone calls arent messed up this is exactly what I wanted because I love cyanogenmod, I just know it kept saying I needed to have a specific set up but that never worked for me with the baseband, I just went for it and I think the problem I always had was not having the lib files to upload after flashing cyan

Sorry, don't mean to hijack the topic, but could you describe the issue where you can hear the other person but they can't hear you a little more? I seem to frequently encounter a similar situation where it could take 10+ seconds before the other person can hear me speak, but I can hear them the whole time. By now most of my friends and family know how to deal with it, but before they would just hang up on me. same phone
I have the exact same phone and I had the exact same problem. TrueAncestor v. 1.4 worked wonders. It was easy to do, it was nicely themed, and the bloatware is all gone! I really recommend.
Here is a list of ftf files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589399
Try flashing a Generic, I dont know how the R800at response to generic R800i, but i have a R800a that has no issues when flashing it with R800i, also i think you could clean the bloatweare with Flashtool, might want to try it.
Last night I installed the -36 baseband from this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469473
So far, so good. Calls and data both work as normal. I'll need to do more testing to be sure whether it fixed my problem or not.
I should also note that all I did was use Flashtool to flash the baseband .ftf file over top of my already installed North American Generic 4.0.2.A.0.42 that I got from this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326459
There's another topic on this same thing and it sounds like using the -36 baseband with the .42 firmware is a good way to go for the Xperia Play 4G (R800at). You can find that one here:

[Q] Xperia Play 2.3.4 Generic - Odd microphone problem.

Hello everyone.
Since this is the first post, I can't post this into the development forums.
A couple months ago I flashed 2.3.4 North America Generic firmware image from Sony Ericsson onto my phone on my AT&T Xperia Play. It was a total replacement of the phone's firmware, and I set everything up as I would a new phone.
One problem I overcame was that the APN list was erased, which I recreated with settings posted in this forum.
Lately, the problem I've been having is that when I make or receive a call, the other person can't hear my voice. Dial tones work, but other than that it's dead air. The more interesting part is that when I hang up and re-call, they can hear me fine.
This problem is getting increasingly worse too, before it was limited to occasional calls, now it's doing it almost every time and even with subsequent calls.
I've tried restarting the phone (power off, power on), but it has not solved this problem. I'm not sure I want to reflash the phone from scratch again, but I still have all the images my phone had.
My flashing history is the following:
ATT 3.0.1.B.0.270 (purchased with the phone 9.18.2011)
ATT 3.0.1.B.0.289 (OTA flash when ATT released it)
ATT 3.0.1.B.0.270 (using flashtool so I could root and back up apps)
SE NA Gen 4.0.2.A.0.42 (using flashtool and did complete wipe/replacement)
I'm currently running the following:
Android: 2.3.4
Baseband: 8x55A-AAABQMAZM-203028D-56
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
Build 4.0.2.A.0.42
Can I please get some help in getting my microphone working?
Thank youi!

Ive been having this problem myself. Seems to only happen when I have a custom rom going. Any time I reflash to stock the issue goes away. It seems like it may be related to Basebands but i dont know... =[
My phones bootloaders are unlocked and Im currently using cm9 with a free xperia kernal
bump.
I'd really like an answer on this one, it's beginning to affect my professional life and it's hard to tell clients "if you don't hear me, call again."
moreover, if it is the baseband, will mixing the north america 2.3.4 generic image and the att 2.3.3 baseband brick/crash the phone?
Try another ftf with higher baseband. 64 preferably.
Regards,
Sdojoin
Thanks for the tip, it looks like it's having the same problem with the updated baseband.
Flashed Firmware R800i 4.0.2.A.0.62 (I did check that it was compatible with ATT)
Baseband 8x55A-AAABQMAZM203028D-64
Please let me know what we can do to get this solved. It's frustrating to be on hold for a half hour only to find that the microphone isn't working, and you have to redial and start again.

[Q] Hopelessly attempting to update to ICS on Telus S2X [unlocked]

Hello friends,
When I was in Viet Nam I had a crazy shopkeeper unlock my SGH-T989D TELUS [galaxy S2X] so I could make calls while I was abroad.
I don't know exactly what he did, but I have been unable to utilize Kies to update my phone to ICS.
I have had severe issues with reception now that I'm back in Canada with the phone reception fading in and out during calls making it impossible to have a serious conversation.
I decided to use ODIN to root my phone to see if that would fix my issues, and I have restored back to the TELUS/samsung default rom in the hope that it would allow me to utilize KIES to update to ICS, hoping that it might magically fix my issue or at LEAST that in the worst case scenario I would be able to return my phone to telus/future shop/samsung (Each of these 3 have valid return/replacement programs that I may utilize.) Unfortunately, even after flashing back the Telus defaults KIES will not allow me to update, giving the "Your phone does not support software upgrading using KIES." message.
I suspect that the problem is related to the fact that the firmware reads:
PDA: KJ3 / PHONE: KJ3 / CSC: KJ3 (XXX)
I have read that for Telus phones the final part should read (TLS) instead of (XXX). I don't know what the XXX means but I'm guessing that is related to the unlock I had done in Viet Nam, and I assume it is what is preventing me from doing the ICS update --- and I'm afraid Telus/Samsung/Future Shop would notice this and not process a return. I have of course tried using different cables and installing/uninstalling KIES and utilizing a different computer to attempt to update.
For Reference:
Running android 2.3.5
baseband t989dtlkj3
kernel v. 2.6.35.11
gingerbread.tlkj3
I am new to the XDA forums but I have not found anyone with exactly this problem (although my search skills may not be up to par).
I am writing this as a last resort, I hope that someone out there can help!!
Thank you in advance!

I have not yet attempted ODIN flashing the ICS Telus rom: I felt that if flashing the gingerbread stock rom did not modify/update the weird (XXX) back to (TLS) then the ICS might not either. IT is my priority to get that fixed so that (hopefully) KIES will then allow me to update not only now but also in the future --- and because I'm afraid that it might cause rejected returns. Do you think that flashing the ICS Telus rom would have a chance to fix this (XXX) thing? (I don't even know what that is an indicator for)

I have fully updated my phone to the newest OS and still I have radio problems, call cuts in and out, misses calls... Does anyone have any ideas? I literally have no idea what to do next.
I think it is related to the firmware being (XXX) instead of TLS for Telus. The unlock in vietnam has been causing me trouble for a year.
