any suggestions on which one is better for removing bloatware and overall root access... i tried titanium backup to remove the some blotware but after it says it has uninstalled it it still shows up in the app menu
The newest busybox version doesn't work well with titanium.
Open it, select problems and let it install a good version. Once its done open it again and try it. Root explorer doesn't work on the epic although its the best file browser out there. Titanium backup should be enough just give it a try again.
Thanks for the info drop. I was trying to use root explorer to get rid of the built in calendar. Wish I knew root explorer didn't work on epic before I bought it. Good info, I'm going to give it another go

I have Root Explorer, and Titanium Backup Pro.
Both work perfectly! I choose root explorer because I personally like the blue icon, and its simple enough to use. I keep it on the folder layout, and like the way you can filter the items and SDcard.
I tend to use Titanium to uninstall stock or downloaded apps because it shows the newest on top and you dont have to scroll throw your app list.

How did you get Root Explorer working?/it doesnt delete anything for me in /syste,/app folder, even after mounting it as r/w.
How do I install apps? I looked on in the htc evo wiki and other q&a's but couldnt find it. Im new to the evo, so i dont know what im doing.
I download a com.[app name].apk file from my pc. I allowed unknown sources, now i dont know what to do.
You'll need a file that you can open the .apk, I use linda file manager (which you can download from the market).
Do you have root explorer or any kind of file reader app installed

thanks it worked great. So I'm guessing this is the procedure to installing apps.

Any apps you download as .apks you will need a file manager to run. Astro works well as well. If you are rooted, use root explorer.
Think of it like Windows. To install something you have to use Explorer and run the .exe.
So i just installed the new BM 5.0 and i was deleting unwanted apps via Titanium Backup pro .. i was doing it so fast that i accidentally deleted task manager! now everytime i click on the widget "Active Application" it fore closes! i tried to look for the stock task manager in the app store but could not find it! is there a way to undo the delete without doing a nandroid restore?
Use the feature in Titanium that can pull apks from cwm backups. You should be able to fix it with that.

1) Open TB
2) Go to Backup/Restore
3) Option soft key
4) More
5) Extract from Nandroid backup
6) Pick Task Manager
I personally tried it once and it didn't work for me, worst comes to worst I'll upload you the JobManager.apk (I assume that's the one you're talking about? The Samsung task manager?). But I assume it works, otherwise they wouldn't include the feature.

To install it, you'll need a file explorer with root access (ES File Explorer, ROOT File Explorer, etc.). Then you'll have to move it to /system/app (to get to /system you'll have to go one level up from /sdcard to get to the root folder /). Make the permissions read "rw- r-- r--" (how you do that depends on what file explorer you use) and then reboot. Should fix the issue.

I'm guessing you're doing it from your phone? Minus has a quirk with mobile sites. Download it from your computer or change your user agent to desktop.

It'll be an option in root explorer along the lines of "root access". I don't know the exact process because I use ES. Play around in the settings of root explorer until you find it. By default it's disabled to prevent users from actually screwing with their system operating system without knowing what they're doing.
did not find anything under settings but there was a button that said Mount R/O or Mount R/W ... so i selected the file to move then i went to system/app thrn i clicked the mount button on the top and it worked! Thank u so much for ur help and fast responds! u really saved mr from alot of grief.

Yeah it's the same thing, you're just allowing the system position to be written to. No problem. Is your task manager working as usual now?

Not sure. Android has a native task manager other than the Samsung one so that might have anything to do with it

Was it working fine when you first installed it? Either way, there's always 5 generic steps you should always take first when trying to resolve an issue:
1) clear application data
2) reboot to recovery and clear cache
3) clear dalvik cache
4) fix permissions
5) reboot
See if that fixes your issues

I need some help. I am trying out new roms but would like to keep the default Samsung keyboard, I like the 3x4 keypad. What would be the best way to transfer if to new roms. I had seen some ways about copying the apk file, but nothing really gave clear directions. I was wondering what would be the best program to use, and how to copy it. Also how do you make .zip installable file to run through cwm to install. Or if there is any easier way to just copy it directly into the files.
Or... if anyone has the apk already, or a zip of it would be helpful as well.
Thanks for the help.
Download titanium backup it'll back up the apk of user installed and system apps with the settings of each app included and when u flash a new domain or w.e u simple reinstall titanium backup and the backs ups can be restored

Hi.. I've currently got my DHD rooted and running an Oxylite ROM, no problems with that it works beautifully, and i also have ROM toolbox pro installed to give me a bit more management and tweaks.. Now i'm new to bootanimations and have had a bit of a read before trying anything and it seems very straightforward to install, however, when i try to, it never works even though i'm following all the steps.
Now when i load one of the pre-installed boot animations within the toolbox pro, it works perfectly everytime.. However, when i try and install one of my own i have no luck at all..
So far i've made sure i do the following, is there anything i'm missing??
I make sure the folder is changed to R/W, i then put the bootanimation.zip file into the Data/Local directory, i know some say System/Media, but not mine because this is where the toolbox pro ones go, i've checked.. I've also tried installing into System/Media too, no joy there either..
Now when i delete the previous bootanimation (the one from toolbox pro) i've noticed it leaves a tmp directory behind as i'm only deleting the zip file, do i need to delete that too? Is it storing previous information and causing a conflict perhaps??
What could i be doing wrong if this isn't the case??

That IS how i've been doing it!! It still wont let me, it gives me some waffle about ROM toolbox not being able to open it and needing to open Clockwordmod in recovery.. Which i then do and it still won't acknowledge the zip.. Keeps throwing up installation aborted..
