Hi All,
Does anyone know of a fix for a scratched camera window? Can it be replaced with out changing battery covers? Maybe a DIY? I'm considering the polishing attachments on my rotary tool at the moment.
Chris.

I had the same issue, and in the end i replaced the back cover because it was pissing me off. Not a cheap solution (25€) but worth it imho. Together with that i ordered a martin fields protector, which includes a small protector (much more resistant than default plastic) for that window, it helps a lot. Being that thing made of cheap plastic it's all you can do about it i'm afraid...it's a shame htc didn't use some more glass for a high end device tho...
I saw a thread somewhere about people replacing the standard plastic lens cover with a sapphire glass one - clear image and no degradation in quality over time
yeah hope to fin something better then that cover in last vid
Just got a set of martin fields protectors, excellent but a little pricey compared to most, easiest fix is just remove the back cover when taking photos and then snap back on after.
Toothpaste
Toothpaste as done the trick for me, i will be going to a watchmakers for some sapphire glass.

indeed, I've popped mine out currently, quality is amazing now!
in theory you don't need a replacement window (the magic never had one to begin with) but I have dirty pockets so I'm going for a sapphire replacement glass as well.
cheers

I have my HTC Desire for about 8 months. After first 3 months that plastic was BADLY scratched. After a few months the plastic was cristal clear again , the only thing i did was to rub it every day with a very soft glasses cleaner cloth in order to remove the smudge, the result was unexpected, because i didn't had in mind to remove the scratches that way.
yes post is very bad, i cant find it any where, on thw interweb if u find a better i,e cheaper please post here.
Hi..
Im not sure if anyone else is feeling what I'm feeling, but I'm literally scared to put this phone down on a hard surface... I feel that back camera lense will get scratched quite easily...
At the moment my phone is balancing on a pair of socks...
Somewhat agree - I mean, my Desire was the same, I think I'm just conscious of the fact that this is a gorgeous device and I don't want to mark it in any way.
I have an Oakley sunglasses bag that I rest it on when face up, but mostly I just put it face down. I mean, you can attack the screen with keys and it won't scratch, so I figure face down is the safest. Plus the back of the phone looks so amazing!
Thats a good point.
Looking forward to when Casemate release their cases for this phone. Hopefully that will have some sort of protection for the lense
A day after I received mine, I'd already managed to put a small yet noticeable scratch across the camera's glass surface and its metal rim. That's despite the fact that I don't place it on hard surfaces nor pocket it without the use of the official pouch. Though I'm thinking it might be a factory defect, it can't be stressed enough how vulnerable that particular area of the device is.
Have a scratch on the metal rim also, very small but yeah on a brandnew device..

I'm exactly the same. It's a bit frustrating to think they put all that effort into giving us the Gorilla glass 2 on the screen, extra strong plastic on the case and an easily damaged camera lens that protrudes from the back. Go figure.
It wouldn't have been quite as bad if they'd recessed the glass lens so that it's less likely to come into contact with any surfaces.
I hope those socks are clean!
Also have a scratch on mine, just by the rim. Didnt think anything of it before getting the phone but it is badly thought out imo. I would have rather the phone be a little thicker and the lense/glass better protected than it is. Ah well...

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it is slightly recessed - by looking at pictures I don't know if it is recessed enough to properly prevent scratches, though.

Discussion about how to protect your camera lens.
I applied a cut-out of the original HTC screen protector on the lens and can't see any reduction of image quality ... Hopefully it protects the lens ...

It is recessed? Crikey, I can't see or even feel it. The surfaces most likely to scratch it are probably rough enough to reach the glass despite the microscopic recess
I bought a White Frosted Gel case. If I put the phone on a flat surface the lens is protected by the case. That is if you want a case
using an adhesive 16mm rooundpad
On the cam of the 1S the lens is slightly recessed. Unfortunately not on the 1X.
I put an anti sliding, anti vibrating pad for soundspeakers on top of of it. Sticks during daily use like a charm and is removed and put back for filming in seconds.
Yeah, really simple but effective
Edit: No way I am hiding this beast in a pouch. It shall shine and chime. The pouches are for my daughters
Hmm it is actually fractionally recessed, like a fraction of a mm. But not enough that if there was a bit of grit on the table, it wouldn't catch it. Also the plastic lens surround (silver finish), is not the same quality as the polycarbonate. So yes, it screams "scratch me" which is a bit silly considering the rest of the phone. You would actually be better to put it face down than face up on a table, but then you can't see the screen! Doh!
For those with the white phone, you could consider HTC HC C700 clip on back cover. It is basically translucent so you can still see the back through it, but it stupidly doesn't have the cut-out holes for the forthcoming docks. For that you will need HTC HC C740 clip on covers which don't have a see-through version! *sigh*
Have a look at the pouches thread in the accessories,I got a nice HTC side flip case phone still feels great in hand but the.plastic back is just enough so you can put it down and the lense does not touch the surface

I have a few scratches on my rear camera window and was considering replacing it with a sapphire crystal window as i did on my desire a couple of years ago.
I've just noticed you can buy the Cover on eBay here.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silver-Rear-Main-Back-Camera-Cam-Rim-Cover-Replacement-For-HTC-One-X-S720e-New-/261069051596?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3cc8ed96cc
So if i bought the cover and a piece of sapphire to fit from here.

I thought it would make a good upgrade, what do we think?
If you think you got the expertise and nimble fingers to do a good job then go for it I say.
If you're not sure whether you can do a decent job (not trying to insult or anything) then I wouldn't bother
Edit: if you do do it, it would be great if you could post some pictures of the steps of what you did, I'm sure there's a lot of people who would consider this for hox if it turns out well..

Or you could use a piece of clear tape or screen protector. I have a piece of finely cut clear tape over it, costs nothing and no visible image quality degradation.

This is going to the next level though, sapphire is real hard on mohs scale AFAIK its way harder than gorilla glass. Expensive I guess, but with the design of the camera lens, having a sapphire one would reduce scratches a lot, and be a more permanent, professional solution

What i'd like to know is does the rim cover as they call it come off from the outside or do you have to open the phone up to get at it?
I am really interesting about this project, can you please put some pics and instructions if you going to realise this one...

I'm pretty sure you'll have to take off the back cover. There are no pry points on the outside.
Interesting! Looking forward to hearing about it!
I just picked up a Black and a White GS4 from Costco today for T-Mobile. After taking it home, applying my Spigen GLASt screen protector and the cover that protected the battery cover, I noticed that there looks like a plastic film on the camera lens. When I try to take it off, I can't. Same thing on my white one. I'm really confused here right now as is it really a plastic film or it's normal
I think it's a plastic.
I daw a post of this before.

I did but didn't see any pictures about the actual camera lens.

Thank you for showing your picture Xcor3! That was the answer I was looking for. Other threads don't have pictures, just says yes or no, doesn't show what or how it looks like.
The plastic might be a slight annoyance when you look at it, but I think it's there for protection. I've heard things about how easily scratch-able the glass is and I don't think it's actually covering the lens.
didnt evan notice it till i saw this thread
Please note it does not cover the lense itself, it in no way impacts camera performance, leave it on.

I was initially going to take it off, but I couldn't so I made this thread just to make sure. I don't even bother trying to take it off no more.
It's fairly easy to take off, you just have to find the edge with a fingernail, it's not on the exact edge of the lens which is what was throwing a lot of people off. While it doesn't affect camera performance, I started noticing stuff getting caught on the inside edge of the plastic circle which I was worried would eventually damage the lens.
I left mine on as it doesnt seem to block the camera eye. Plus it will protect the rest of the lens from scratches.

Im not taking the one on mine off unless it falls off on itself. It will help with the lens getting scratched.
So I'm not sure if this is for everyone, but on my T-Mobile edge plus, there was a plastic protector covering the flash and other sensors. It was a little difficult to remove. But after doing so, I'm positive the flash is brighter and fuller. Also I think the heart rate sensor is faster now. Just sharing my find.
Bloody hell, thank you! I just peeled mine off.
Cant tell if minehas one on it lol

If you purchased the phone brand new never opened in retail box then you have
the little transparent plastic film which covers the flash led & heart rate monitor.
It comes off easy enough by simply using your fingernails.
Good luck,
Have a great day!
I did purchase it brand new at store but they ppened it there so i dont know mybe they took it off

They would not take it off, why would they?
Just start scraping the top or bottom edges of the
led with your fingernail and it comes off easily.
I know the led LOOKS like it has no plastic film
but it really does.
Good luck,

I can't tell is the camera has one also.... Does it lol? Thanks for the top btw
Thanks, I never noticed the plastic. :good:
I love peeling the plastic off electronics. It's like my disneyland
How did that get there? Just peeled mine off. Thank you!
I have another Samsung secret to reveal. Hilariously, I have confirmed that store demos of this phone have this plastic covering on the LED and sensors (I'm talking the fake ones on stands in target even). So if peeling this off gets you going, by all means free those fake phones from their protective plastic next time you shop.
i found out at the store..i always take a good look before taking it home with me
I knew about the plastic film, but I left it on because of early reports that it's not actually glass covering the flash/heart rate sensor
I figure I'd rather scratch the removable plastic film then the plastic cover itself
mine had it lol
I peeled off the plastic rather easily, and I thought there was another plastic underneath it Cuz I already saw some scratches on it. Poked around with a wooden toothpick trying to peel it off and it looks all scratched up now. Is the led and sensor cover a piece of plastic or glass?
Sent from my SM-G928T using Tapatalk
It is plastic, scratches on it will only lightly hurt the throw of the LED flash. The heart rate sensor will be close to unaffected by any level of scratches. I believe the last one is a proximity sensor (correct me if I'm wrong), and that would be largely unaffected by scratches as well.
That is the proximity sensor and scratches should not noticeably affect any of the 3 things listed.
I never would have known that was there lol Thanks
Well hot damn! I just removed one of the heart rate sensor....No wonder the damn thing didn't work right all the time! Thanks for this
I must say that this is the reason my heart rate sensor was acting wonky. I don't really use the sensor so the plastic will stay on. It's not even that noticeable. The scratches are however and I hate my phone looking all jacked up.
