SD card level relative to device temperature? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

i dont know the differences among class10 、class6 and class4.
but when i transfer data from PC to my note2 ,i found my device overheated when touching.
i assume it is because the sd card is being written into data that rockets the temprature.
pls do answer my following questiongs. thanks!
1,if i replace a better SD card , would I solve the overheating issue?
2, why is there no USB storage mode when connected my note2 to PC?
3,I use the media MTP mode instead ,which may cause media scanning backstage after transferring data. is it the reason of overheating?(heavily burden of scanning sd card backstage)

USB connection settings are found in. .
menu/settings/development/USB..
I suspect your overheat condition may be battery related. .
SD card changes in higher classes generally increase read/write speeds.
My reason to suspect battery is directly related to charging during data transfer.
A good test would be to power off the device and remove the battery. Then plug in the device and power it on for your data transfer.
If the device runs at an acceptable temperature, the PC may be over charging.
If the device overheats with no battery, then the heat generation resides within the device CPU most likely.
Other means beyond SD cards would need to be taken to reduce heat obviously.
You make no mention of what rom you use, or if you have modified the device kernel with CPU speed changes or voltage adjustments.
All of these factors play heavily into heat generation issues.
More info is needed to be sure of the cause, but the battery removal test will tell you the location to check next....g

thank u for ur reply.
i check the battery temp.
it is 36℃ when transferring.
but when i touch the upper part of phone i feel hot enough.
is it normal?
how could i check CPU temp?

Storage Card disconnects on low power

Hi
I am having problems with mobile users whose devices have disconnected the storage card because of low battery power. We run our critical apps from storage card so this is quite a problem.
Does anyone know what this threshhold is and if it is possible to change it or disable it altogether?
Thanks in advance
I don't think that it is possible to change the threshold, because from the message, I consider it a matter of lack of power, not the software does it.
And more, it only disconnect the Storage Card and reports when the battery comes so low. So don't try too hard to keep it working, or lose all of your hard work.

Removing SDCARD for extra battery?!

How about that? How much sdcard consume actually?
Nexus S dont have it, there must be a reason for removing it.
SD cards require ca. 0.15 mA in "standby" or up to nearly 50mA while reading. Therefore, depending on the usage rate of your SD card, it may save power of course to not use one. Instead the data must be read from some other place like internal flash memory. As long as that consumes fewer power, it may be worth a try.
I had this peculiar experience. After reformating my SD CARD I gained 6 hrs of battery life approx now. Previous to the format it was 20 hrs max and now its around 26 hrs. May be the filesystem itself has something to do with power drain I think.
I think I will remove sdcard. My defy now has over 1GB free space and that is enough for everything

So how do you compress your 15gb music library into that single GB ?
ill keep my SD card in cheers, removing it cant use any more juice than the internal memory.
My mp3 player, a cowom d2 has internal memory and an sd slot. On sd the play back is way shorter.

On my Sansa Clip+ it makes sod all difference.
Don't use SD card, don't use 3g, keep display low, don't play games, finally sell that phone and be happy.
What would be the point in having it.

What's the point of having a smart phone if you don't use its features. Besides wouldn't it consume more time and power if you turn off your device , insert sd card (by some event you need it), turn it on again. ??? Then again, its up to you.
Got a Headache? It's all in your Head.
It does chow battery, thats why I keep most of my apps on the internal flash....and those apps you only open once in a while I leave on my sd, and movies, mp3s etc etc.
You wont need to remove the sd, just unmount it under storage, then it will not even be in standby and save some battery

This argument is not valid in my opinion. Analysing what consumes battery to a more or lesser extent is irrespective of what you use. Once you identified the power hogs, you can alter your use, or accept the consequences for the ones you want to use. If you use a dedicated MP3 player for instance, I could imagine that the internal memory would be sufficient.
For me, 3G is avoided as much as possible. Using wifi instead uses less battery.

Thanks man, i did not think of just unmount lol
I could not remove it, my navigation files must be on it... too bad because i dont have need for sdcard since i dont have lots of mp3s and pics. I have now more then 1gb of free space on phone...

How to kill battery drain issues without an app

Hi everyone!
OK, I have pretty much isolated issues with battery since I found faulty wiring with Samsung USB cables that come with their chargers.
Not everyone will find issues with the USB cable, but the way it is made will be an issue eventually.
One, the cable is very thin and flexible, so many will stretch over a near by wall outlet to use the charger while using the tablet.
Eventually the wire at the connecter on the tablet end gets bent up to 90 degrees, Eventually causing two issues. One intermittent charging. The other a short. I have had both happen since Owning it in November 2013.I almost had a fire, as the plug had a meltdown. Super dangerous!
Now while messing with trimming down apps and memory, I found a few apps that I use have the ability of keeping the CPU and GPU at their highest frequency. They call it boost mode. Even if you have it disabled, toggling it on and off may clear out the setting if you notice your tablet's battery depleting fairly fast and heating up on the left side.
Now for a odd issue with Google apps... I removed the Google Play Music Player, and disabled DRM/Downloads and made a few adjustments to Media Server. What happens is Music Player will cause playback automatically and Media Server will loop into high CPU usage even during reboot. DRM and Media server can cause this condition quite easily. So far Google is not working on a fix for JellyBean. Only KitKat has this fix, all other previous Androids,Gingerbread for example, do not have the issue. Corrupt files or files with _ or strange symbols will cause this loop until the tablet is turned off completely and restarted.

Oh here is more about draining batterys with 4.2.2
Many who don't have battery drain issues are running 4.2.1 or earlier.
Google Music Player after December 2013 will drain the battery on 4.2.2 ROMs.
Found Samsung OEM USB / Charging cables too weak and flimsy. Gone to Blackberry / Sony / Ericson cables, as they are the best in the business for OEM cables. Not only they are robust they have built-in passive filtering for high throughput connectivity. Also they allow for a good quality USB extension cable to be used with fast charging. I do not recommend any combined lengths beyond 1.8 Meters, or 5 Feet.
Use nomedia in folders not containing media on the SD card. If you are not sure about how to properly use nomedia, redirect your Internet browsers cache to SD, and copy the file from the cache directory anywhere that is needed.
Remove or edit any '_' in a media file's name, as media will run constantly when detecting an underscore.
Watch the data and battery tools in the android system, to assist in diagnoses of rogue apps running.
Beware of Xposed modules... I ran across a few that their updates caused slow booting and errors. Watch your Xposed log after a few reboots with any Xposed updates.
I'll repeat myself from the original entry on top of this thread... Watch for any module or app that has boost/benchmark capabilities. Disable it by all means. I have tweaked with OC tools with custom ROMs and found very little benefit. For those who scoff, here are my current battery and performance info for daily activities.
Charge rate while on AC and active: 20% every 45 minutes.
Sleep with Wifi on during a 12 hour period, total drain: 3%
Drain per hour while being active: 10%
Drain per hour Miracasting Netflix to tv: 12%
Netflix operation no lag or sync issues with high resolution. Note: this is with small tweaks with a stock ROM.
Even with performance tweaks for audio and CPU throughput. No overclocking or under volting was performed. I probably would get better battery drain performance by removing Viper4AndroidFX and keeping with OEM audio driver.
Here are my tweaks.
Xposed App Settings... 220dpi 1000x1600 even though stock parameters default to 320dpi, the system defaults to 180dpi and needs overridden.
360 security with active Android security patch update (Works when you do a manual full scan) and built-in app performance & cleanup tool.
Greenify & Xposed donation with Greenify extras.
Xposed boot manager.
Disabled Google Music Player.
Viper4androidFX set to Medium efficiency with Neon driver.
Trickster Mod with settings for 1024 cache, Zbuffer, and Ondemand set.

Android System is using more battery than my screen.

Why is my android system taking so much power all of a sudden? Worrying.
Welcome to the sad party We have been discussing this in the OTA update thread as well. I've never had Android even close to Screen usage before. Now it's constantly there. And sadly no root for greenify or wakelock viewing.
Mine just started this after a very long charge. Plugged it up at like 9:00 am and it just finished about 10 minutes ago, very strange. It seems to be going back down to normal though.....
It's been higher since the last OTA update. Hopefully it will be fixed when lollipop gets released.
That happens to me on the original build maybe once a month. I just restart my phone and it goes back to normal.
Android System battry drain after OTA update
I haven't read through the other forums, so forgive me if I'm suggesting something that's been suggested elsewhere, but I was able to fix mine by disabling HDVoice..
Settings>Data Usage>Mobile Data>Enhanced 4G LTE Services
After I unchecked that I'm back to where I was pre-OTA.
All of you having Android System running at high %'s, can you answer two questions?
1) When you go to Settings> General > Battery and tap on the graph, does your Awake graph show as mostly awake (solid blue lines) when the screen is off (no lines next to Screen On)?
2) Do you have an external SD card in your phone?
I'm asking because I'm also having high Android System battery drain. My phone is also always "Awake" according to the battery graph (in other words, it isn't deep sleeping, so my battery is draining faster than it should). I just removed my external SD card for a while and now my phone is magically deep sleeping. Well, obviously not using your SD card is not an option for many people... myself included... all my music is on mine! So I'm trying a few things to allow me to keep my card in and to have my phone deep sleep. I'm just wondering if there's any similarities between me and anyone else.
UPDATE:
OK, so what I did worked.
If you have an external SD card, then do this:
1) In Settings>Applications>SD Card, I moved any checked apps to internal storage.
2) I then copied all my music, photos, videos, etc to my computer.
3) Then, with the SD card in the phone, I went to Settings>Storage and formatted the SD card.
4) I then copied the files from (2) back to the card.
After that, your phone should not only sleep better, but Android System should begin to move down the battery usage list after many hours. Just over night, it went from about 38% usage to 20% usage and is now #2 on the list. Cell Standby is now #1. By the end of the day, I expect it be even lower.

awake matches almost identical to screen time,
And i haven't tried the sd card one, although i've gotten a new one.
Anyone try this with success?

It worked for me (obviously), but it wasn't exactly meant to be a solution for everyone. Eventually, Android System became the highest drainer again, but on Lollipop, it no longer is. Again, that's for me.
Try removing the card and leaving the phone asleep (screen off and not doing anything) for a few hours. If the awake time decreases dramatically, then it may be the SD card causing problems.

Sim Management killing battery any help??

Hi All, after all possible ways to fix my P2, I am getting little angry, as thanks to help people here, I sourced full S233, and done full format and fresh installation, but still no any ringtones or sounds available, no problem, used backup form Z2, and this should be covered, media was high on battery drain too, no problem removed sd card, find out something is not right, as media gone back to normal, backing up 80gb of data a reformatting sd card, but what is wrong with sim management - hammering battery heavily, on gsam pro - showing 75 % of battery consumed by combined app CPU !!!
What is could be???? Tried sim 1 and sim 2 tray no difference. I know there is bug which keep Phone idle high, but this is nothing against sim management, anyone with any suggestions??? Many thanks..
ok, find problem, it was corrupted photos and video file on sd card. all back to normal SOT 12-13 hour per charge..
How did you identify the corrupt photo/video? I am having similar problem.

I am now experiencing the same thing. Could you please elaborate?
I just switched devices and transfered the content from my daily driver P2 to my spare P2 via Nandroid/TWRP.
I think I've had this problem before and that it had something to do with using airplane mode for an extended period of time.
