Hi guys. I have an LT28at running the the LT28i firmware. I am having an issue with calls being garbled as seen in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115074
It is suggested to flash the baseband of the LT28at firmware but whenever I do this, the baseband does not change in the settings. Is this normal? How do I know if the baseband has actuallly changed?
I excluded everything except the baseband in flashtool. The flash succeeds but as stated before there is no change in my baseband number. Thanks.

I heard first time that you can change baseband. But I also don't understand why you are using different fw instead of correct for your phone. Baseband could be changed on 2011 Xperia's but not in 2012. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes the baseband can be flashed. I just recently flashed the at .111 baseband on my 3.7 I firmware.
1. Open Flash Tool
2. Select the ftf you want to use
3. Un check all wipes and everything but the baseband
4. Now that you only have basband selected flash and connect your phone in flash mode
5. Your done
If you are flashing a baseband from an older I firmware it is quite possible they both use the same one.
Okay this is odd. I have the .111 at base flashed and it reads the same as yours in the phone. I know it flashed though as my wifi is worse and I have the stock signal icons again for at.

No AT&T bloat. That's why.

Yeah I don't know why it doesn't change in the settings. I don't really know if mine has really changed to the AT&T baseband or not. The flash was successful so I guess it did? I'll have to see if I still have the garbled phone call issue.
The one way to tell is the signal icon. If its a att baseband it will show 4g for hspa+ and LTE for 4g. On the i radio it shows H and 4g.
EDIT: just checked my phone, and my baseband is the same as the OP? So i guess i have the same problem, but haven't noticed garbled calls or anything...yet...and sorry Zackspeed; I didn't see your 2nd post noticing the icon changing...i guess i'll try flashing the .111 baseband again and see if it does the same as it did for you...i just don't have my cable, so i won't get to it until tonight.
I went from latest ATT .111 ICS back to latest generic .3.7 ICS while excluding baseband in flashtool. Seems to have put the international baseband on anyway, but everything is working with ATT after i manually entered APN settings...also, I'm getting the international icons in the status bar.
Do any of you happen to know the baseband version of .111? I never took a screen of that; i guess i should've.
based on what others are saying, it does seem that reflashing .111's baseband back over .3.7 'works'...its just not updating whatever file being read for the about phone status page. Just seems weird that excluding baseband in flashtool during the initial flash seemingly does nothing?

While I don't know the baseband number and I can confirm it does not change in about phone it does change. I have the .111 flashed at the moment and my wifi signal is not as strong but my regular signal seems better. I have not had the garbal problem and seem to stay connected to the network better. 3.7 seems to have the most issue. I had allot of garbal with its radio and allot of network drops. The one issue that bothered me the most was having to reboot the phone whenever it would switch from 4g back to hspa+.
I will test the radios today and see what I can figure out and see if any of them change in about phone.
^awesome, thanks. weridly, just 5 minutes ago i had my first garbled thing pop up...tried to call my voice mail and it sounded like the phone was at the bottom of a pool.
I'm not in an LTE coverage area, so i can't really comment on how my phone reacts to 'in and out' things like that. I did confirm LTE works with .3.7 and apparently the international baseband, though.
This is strange though. What i've noticed since going from att .111 to international .3.7 is that i regularly have higher signal strength being displayed, and never noticed any wi-fi problems. I haven't dropped a call since i flashed over, and get at least 2 bars in places i normally would have no signal displayed (such as the server room where i work)...I know that displayed signal strength doesn't mean its truly better; but i can make calls in areas that i couldn't before....
So i haven't even considered messing with this since the flash, as the ONLY difference i've had was the different icons....everything else just seemed better....which is the opposite of what you experienced with the international baseband apparently?
but, as i mentioned, i did exclude the baseband when flashing over .3.7..so i technically should have att's .111 baseband right now, which i clearly don't...I can 100% confirm i have the international icons in the status bar, and i had absolutely NO data connection until i manually entered APN settings. The phone didn't auto-download that stuff like some guys did.

For me everything is better. The only issue I have is the garbled voice but that may have been resolved with the baseband flash. We'll see.

more lost than when i started haha. I only had ATT .105 still on my machine, so i tried flashing only that baseband over rather than waiting to download .111 again. Flashtool did its thing, booted phone...
no change whatsoever. Still have international icons...and same baseband version number...
zachspeed are you positive you're getting stock icons back? Some in other threads are saying the baseband doesn't control that; that its built into the entire rom or something.
I'm starting to think this is a flashtool issue more than anything...as its clearly not doing what it says its doing in some cases...and given flashtool's track record of just blatantly buggy stuff...i can't see how its something else entirely.
Well I am wrong as it indeed is not working now. I just flashed 29i to see if it would change and it did not. I know it used to work as like I said when we first went to using the H ICS we had to flash the att GB base. As for the icons I am sure they changed as I have LTE in one spot where I live and for the longest it would say H for 3g and 4g for lte. Now after I flashed the .111 it says 4g all the time and LTE when I am in that part of town. Or maybe I am just crazy lol. JB could not come fast enough lol or a Z would be great haha.
cool man, no problem...
that still doesn't explain why basebands aren't being changed with flashtool though. If we flash att .111 baseband over, it should be ending in '-24', not 23...and has a few other letter differences in the version number.
I tried .105 last night, nothing...and .111 last night, nothing. I can't tell any difference at all with the phone, still has international icons and everything.
i've only had that garbled thing the one time, though...so agreed, hopefully whatever this weirdness is its gone with JB haha.
It is all kind of odd. I do know for sure it did work and not really sure why it wont now. Anyway guess we wait two weeks or so lol.
Okay I am going to put this out there. One thing I did notice was when I flashed the att radio with the build prop still reading 28i and noticed it skipped something but I did not save the log or really read it. When I tried flashing the 3.7 generic radio it did not do it. This occurred to me after I had stopped messing with it last night. So I wounder if we edit the finger print to look like what we are flashing if it would then flash?? Just a hunch so don't quote me on this.
Well I'm at 24 hours with no garbled calls after "flashing" the .111 baseband. Fixed? Lucky break? Who knows. -_-
^i too have not had a garbled call other than that one random guy 2 days ago...other than the baseband version number not quite lining up with what i think it should be, the phone has been perfect. Still getting noticeably better signal strength than i did with ATT ICS, but that could simply be finally a few back end upgrades on their part...something very long over due, as service has sucked in this area for 10 plus years...
zack, i logged both baseband flashes i tried also...one for .105, and one for .111...I didn't read them, but saved them. I'll check the logs when i get back to my work computer. The only thing i noticed was 'flash successful', and simply unplugged the phone...but there was a wall of text i didn't carefully read above it. I agree though, this is all just something to do while bored...as JB will be pretty much the final stock rom any of us mess with on an Ion...and that will be the one i'll put the most effort into making sure its as bug free as i can possibly get it.
Guys,
Baseband is contained in /system/etc/firmware. Flashing baseband partitions won't change anything except maybe resetting your current baseband.
If you want to change baseband, you have to take the files from the rom that contains it: modem.* (mdt, b00, b01...bxx), q6.* (mdt, b00, b01...) , tzapps.* and dsps_fluid.* then copy them into your own rom in /system/etc/firmware.
You'll see that by doing that, your firmware version changes.
Flashing the baseband partitions after copying the files could help having a fresh start.
^haha good to know, so i was in way over my head...
a day later and still no messed up calls, though. So i'm happy for now...just ready for JB
I don't think that is correct. I am still learning all of this but I do know in some of the older threads its documented that it did work early on when we first went to H ICS. Some who had LTE in their area at the time showed LTE speeds after flashing it. Guess it does not matter much now but it sure would be nice to have a unlocked boot loader. Ha Ha
Well, I'm 98% sure, I worked on radio partition extract in firmware and there is no way that the content is radio code. It could have configuration values though, that's why I said that flashing them could be useful, but the partitions are mostly empty. Proof of that is that version changes only if you change files, it will change even without formatting radio partitions.
Unlocked bootloader is not required by the way as it's on system partition, you only need root, remount partition, and replace files.
Regardless of whether the flash does anything or not, it seems to have solved my problem, lol.

If you did flash a tablet rom on your phone, you don't have an EFS folder anymore. This happened a week or so to someone. I am not exactly sure how they fixed it.. but that I am sure if you do some searches you will find a way. Goodluck.
How long did it take to fix itself?
Any rom/ kernal combinations you suggest ?
Can u please elaborate?
How can i regain the efs folder?
As stated willng to pay for useful advice leading to the fix!
Search it.. someone had your exact problem.

I made the same mistake:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21897496#post21897496
After a couple of days of trying every method I could to fix it, I ended up taking a significant loss and sold it as is and picked up a subsidized verizon nexus. If I had a spare phone or didn't need to be connected 24/7, I would of spent more time trying to fix it.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you're just some badass dev or have lots of time on your hands, you're pretty much screwed, for right now anyway. There are some apps in the android market that supposedly fix the issue on SG2's, but none work (yet) for the GNEX.
Why dont you just flash everything back to stock using the factory images in the link below

Obviously use the right cdma or gsm images based on your phone!

Been there, done that. Hopefully it'll work for him but it made no difference for me.
I am no expert and I am just throwing an idea out here, but if it is an efs backup file that you need * referring to Afro's url posted* is it not possible that someone can upload their working efs folder so you can put it in its place?
Thanks for the tips and links, going to read them inside out.
Ive got access to another galaxy nexus ->
cant i just transfer something accross ?
Perhaps download the efs from the other phone (gnex) and put it on the one mising?
ICS installed last week as the phone was already a small signal problem, when I put it worked for about three days now the signal is not fixed for more than an hour, went back to my preferred MIUI rom in its latest version and still the problem persists.
Please if anyone knows how to solve the problem.
Thanks in advance.
OBS. WIFI is working properly and the rest seems to work perfect except the phone signal.
Guessing you've checked baseband?
Sent from my GT-I9300T using xda app-developers app
You might have not selected proper baseband. Go to baseband settings in device settings and select correct baseband according to your area. Or you can install baseband switcher separately.
For more info visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052745
I think the problem and the chip will replace the phone and tell if it worked
put back the stock rom
and if the problem persist go to warranty
Remember that not only choosing the correct baseband is important (which could not exactly be one of your country or phone company, you can google the right one for country/company), but it could also take 5 minutes to get a stable signal.
Hi all, I am again posting about having radio issues. (NO T-Mobile signal) Any 4.2 Rom I try to install, I am unable to obtain phone service. (signal)
Here is what I did:
1. Start from scratch, total erased phone and sd card and micro card.
2. Odin flash stock Rom and Odin flash latest TWRP
3. Copy Rom to SD card and flash. (flash is fine)
4. No signal, flashed newest UVM6 radio, all kind of wipes.
My phone is SGH-T989 T-Mobile. I even changed the APN, but still only pick up AT&T which still having no signal bars. I tried flashing all radios available with no help at all. I am able to use certain 4.1.2 Roms such as Infamous 3. I even tried different kernels, different wipes and just can not get any T-Mobile signal service. I have tried searching for any and all radio issues for this phone. NOTHING works for me. Can anyone or does anyone have same problem that came up with a solution to get a signal for T-Mobile for these Roms? I am currently using the Infamous 3 Rom using Arc kernel. Actually the only other Rom I can use it the stock deodexed rooted base. Very frustrated not being able to use these great looking Roms, HELP please! Thanks for any information or solution. BTW, I have tried everthing and every type of wipe to no avail.

Oh boy.....again.
K....here is about everything. If none of this is your problem, since you say you've checked everything....and yes, I have read your other thread....in which you repeatedly say you tried everything, then you have a hardware issue, or are simply doing something wrong and telling us you did it right.
Not getting a signal.....
- not using latest T-Mobile or Telus radio. Maybe you flashed it, but is it actually showing as that radio in settings??
- APN settings are wrong or don't exist. Lets pause here. You said you checked apn and only pick up at&t. Or am I misreading that. If you don't have the correct T-Mobile apn settings, then you wont get a signal or data. Period. This has to be correct before bothering with anything else. You said you checked. Against what?? I've seen plenty of apn settings when Googling it, some simply don't work. Maybe they are old settings, wrong phone, whatever. I'm Telus, so can't help you with the settings for T-Mobile.
- what has already been posted above needs to be correct.
- maybe radio file you flashed was wrong one or corrupt. Perhaps try the Telus one. Should work too. Since T-Mobile radio works on Telus.
- restoring any system data after a flash? Huge no no.
- wrong mobile band selected?
- and a possibility .....simply no signal where you are. Or it's a weak signal, and your assuming it doesn't work?? Ignore this if you have a very strong signal usually where you live. 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 shouldn't affect signal much if any.
Anyway.....that's about all there is to it if you are CLEAN flashing roms and following instructions to the letter. I am confident you will say all the above is good....and if so....I am afraid you will probably find no answers like your other thread. Meaning you have an extremely rare issue. Or a wierd hardware issue, sim card maybe....tho before you dismissed that as a cause. Another possibility is that you aren't correct when you say apn is fine, or the radio you flashed is fine. Not accusing you of misleading anyone, just saying perhaps you are innocently wrong when you tell us this or that is fine when it is not.. I've done tech support.....happens all the time! !!
So, good luck. Hope you find a solution ......tho this is your second thread on same issue....so you may have some rare issue....and may be boned.

That would certainly make sense!
He's got something wrong for sure. Or he's got a strange phone that won't work with 4.2. And I doubt that very much.
He's got wrong radio, or wrong or missing APN settings.
Or wrong phone, sim or carrier.

Thanks for helping and I think your right about being boned or hardware issue. I have tried different downloads of radios, both Telius and Tmobile and copied APN settings from working stock Rom. Maybe bad Sim, anyway I will have to stay with what I have until I get new phone, which is soon. Thanks again!
Stumbled across this. I've never heard of this particular issue before, but sure sounds the same as your issue. Try this fix if you haven't already.
Everything below is copied from another thread......
i had this problem with slim too. i thought something went wrong with my phone or my area. but nope. what you need to do is go to mikeyman777 cm10.1 thread and find the uvmc6 tar file, then use odin to flash it. apparently just flashing the newest radio with twrp isn't enough because it's missing some files or something like that lol.
anyways i haven't had signal problems since flashing radio tar file. i've lost signal like once. before i was losing it everyday. hope this helps.

i got a rooted s3 and i like to flash roms. i recently flashed dandroid but i went back to stock by odin. originally my icon is H+ but after i used stock firmware from sammobile ( i got an unlocked, non carrier version s3) the icon became 4g. i notice since then my speed has been worse because its really unstable, the signal doesnt drop but it never connects. I mean like those tiny arrows that tell you if theres any data moving dont do anything. Even using a lightweight browser like opera mini is slow now. Is there ny way to go back to before? btw i already tried reflashed and wiped data.
Have you tried a different modem?

Download, then flash in recovery, just like a ROM...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
Stock rom shows 4GLTE no matter what you are getting. Go to the "about phone" and look for the current data type. For me it says LTE:13 or something to that extent.
A word of caution, cause it just happened to me. Be sure to backup you IMEI if you haven't done so and put it in a safe place, or two! I don't think you have this problem now. In settings-about your IMEI would be 0. I had a backup but freaking lost it somehow and had to get a new phone. I could not get data even though my arrows were moving as well, but it only showed E and G networks. The list of modems is in the Sticky and there is no better one. It depends on your area. Have you checked your APNs? Sometimes you have to enter or reenter them manually. There are tools to back them up. Its in the settings-more-mobile-access point names. The newest one i believe is titled phone. might say pta as well.
I've got the T-Mobile M919 S4 and I have a 4.4.4 ROM on it (Insane Hybrid).
I've got the latest NK2 Baseband and I also don't want to upgrade to Lollipop since I did before and it was lag lag lag lag lag after a week or so.
I've noticed recently that it is getting very poor reception.
My buddy's S3 will have two bars and mine will show no service. Or it'll have bars but no data service. Or I won't be able to call out.
There also seems to be an unusual amount of spots where I have no service.
When I do have service, the data can get really really slow.
My GPS lock also frequently gets lost during navigation.
Any ideas? Do I need to flash a kernal, modem, or radio or something? Which ones?

Try updating your baseband. That sometimes solves it. Here's the link:

Thanks, I'll give those a shot. I'm going to flash this and see what happens:

I'm still a bit confused on some of the terminology and what's bundled with what.
- The "modem" is the same as the "radio", right? It's a driver that controls how the device deals with cellular voice and data signals. I can find the version of my modem/radio by looking at the last letters in my "baseband."
- The modem/radio driver is usually bundled with a ROM, right? So the ROM that I flashed above will also update/replace my current modem/radio driver?
- Modem/radio drivers can be separate from the ROM itself. If I use a 4.4.4 rom that has NK2 bundled, I can still flash just a NH4 radio using ODIN onto the old ROM and be ok, right?
- Where does the kernal come in? I'm assuming the kernel is bundled with the ROM and the kernal is only in charge of the switching between cellular and WiFi data, right?
That's the price you pay with custom roms, sometimes your lucky and everything works the way it's supposed to sometimes it doesn't.
Run phone for a day and make sure everything works properly after flashing back to stock before attempting custom again.
If you need your device to function as a reliable phone, making and receiving calls and messages you may have to rely on stock roms.
Pp.
