Note 2 Wi-Fi issues - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone experienced issues with Wi-Fi auto connecting to known hotspots but getting an "internet not available" error from android. So far this has only been happening with the stock Rom and the android revolution hd Rom.
To be more specific: if I'm on a network - any network - and walk away from it, when I come back and it auto-connects it comes up with an error in the notifications saying "internet not available".
Any advice?

I've gotten that issue on occasion but not often enough to bother me. If switching wifi off and then back on doesn't solve the problem, a hot boot will.
mudge

My problem is that it happens more and more often as time goes on.

Try toggling the setting by going to Settings > Wi Fi > Advanced and Uncheck "Check for Internet service" option.

[Q] Can't enable Mobile Network...help?

Hi guys,
You know how when you enable Airplane mode Bluetooth, Bluetooth settings, 4G, 4G settings, Mobile network, and Internet sharing become shaded and you are unable to turn them on?
Well, for some reason my Mobile Network option is shaded/unselectable, although I am certainly not in Airplane mode. In fact, both mobile network and internet sharing are shaded, yet M.N.'s box has a green checkmark and underneath it says, "Turning on...". Still, it remains like that without any change.
Since this issues has occured, the 3G logo in the status bar has disappeared, which leads me to think that the phone isn't enabling data connections, not that there is something wrong the MetroPCS's end.
The only thing I could think of was that a few days ago, I was playing with turning on/off 4G setting and that I turned off/on the 2G-3G toggle in the Extended controls widget; that however, only directed my to the Mobile network settings where Data Roaming, Data Roam Guard, ect. are all enabled.
What should I do? I tried being as detailed as possible, and hopefully there is a solution as I am getting really tired of no internet on my phone. Thanks for any help.
By any chance to you have an older version of switch pro installed. This caused issues with my mobile network a while back.
If so, uninstall it.

I do not have it install, but I will try uninstalling any app that I have installed in the last week; maybe you are onto the something there. I do have a couple of control/settings/toggle widgets. I'll report back.

[Q] Wifi Tether Issue: What the hell. Your phone takes back control over the Wi-Fi

Running 2.3.3, rooted, stock ROM. I am having this issue with MULTIPLE versions of WiFi Tether, but currently trying out 3.2 (I think) beta.
Works as expected, but after about 2 minutes or so, tethering stops, and I get the following error:
"What the hell. Your phone takes back control over the Wi-Fi interface."
It's only on screen for like 2 seconds, so I can't reproduce the entire message.
It appears that the phone turns on it's Wifi, which seems to stop wifi Tether. I am having trouble finding this exact issue on the Internet.
well i have no idea how to fix your problem but i do know that you are in the wrong forum. this should be in the Q&A.
Turn off your wifi before you use wireless tether.
Thanks for both responses. I wasn't sure which forum to post this in as I didn't know if it was an issue with the EVO, the Android version, or WiFi Tether.
I have since un-checked "Restart WiFi driver" and also checked another setting that keeps the screen from turning off.
One of those two seems to have done the trick, because WiFi Tether has been running for around 4 hours today. I'm using it with my laptop now.
Thanks again!
Forgot to mention, I also wasn't sure about whether or not wiFi was supposed to be running for this thing to work or not. Now I know!
Also, I specifically used the error message in the title because when I searched, I couldn't find anything. Now anyone else experiencing this issue should find this easy - I hope.
This helped immensely. I was getting the same error message searched and found how to fix it here. Thanks leebo!
Not sure if I mentioned this, but I also run "locale", which I set to turn WiFi on in certain locations around town. I have to remember to turn locale off when using WiFi tether, otherwise it turns on my WiFi and tether gives the error message.

There was a certain version of Wifi tether that worked great and I could tether to other devices even if my phone was connected to Wifi...it worked on my evo and evo shift, it was versions 2.2 or 2.1, I don't remember but whichever version of wifi tether is closest to that is the one that worked fine for me
What the hell! Your phone takes back control over the wifi-interface. Immediate tethe
For me the problem was that I had "Sprint Connections Optimizer" enabled. Once I unchecked that box, I could run wifi tether without any errors!
Setting Location: Settings --> More Settings --> Mobile Networks --> Connections Optimizer --> Sprint Connections Optimizer
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3
ROM: FreeGS3 v3.0.0.0
Yes but....this is the EVO 4G and theres no such option in settings

Does that's setting even do anything? Roms I flashed that had it I couldn't tell.

SOLVED
On my Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 (Verizon branded) unlocked, rooted stock VRUFNK1, on Straight Talk (Verizon network), this worked for me:
Install the Xposed module named "X Tether", also known as "Moto Tether".

[Q] Wifi Calling Problem

Just installed G-Lite 1.0.7. Loving the ROM so far, but just had a couple of things not working. No Swype at first, but I was able to restore that using Titanium and turning off the default android keyboard. Wifi calling is still broken.
I get a couple of error messages with it - "W005.1 ISP Error Retry" and then I get "You are currently not registered with the T-Mobile network. Would you like to register to enable Wi-Fi Calling?"
It gives me a register button to click on and when I click it the app closes and takes me back to the desktop. Noticed that in the settings for wifi calling there is nothing listed under "My Network" for "UNC Address" or "SGW Address". And if I try "Ping Network" the address it wants to ping just says "NULL".
Looks like the wifi calling app doesn't have any of its settings. Tried restoring the app with Titanium but the settings are still not there. Any ideas how to fix? Thanks!

According to the T-Mobile twitter, Wi-Fi calling was down for maintenance today.

Yeah so I just came back to my post to say that it randomly started working again. Hoping it was on TMO's end. Figures they would do it right when I switch roms...

Hey man I was having the same problem today - however, after a reboot (not intended to fix the problem), it was working fine! I may have just timed it perfectly or something. I have been having issues like this maybe twice in the last few weeks or so, counting this time. Reboot fixed it last time, so I figured that was it then.
Hearing about T-Mo's issue makes me wonder if I just happened to get it working coincidentally. Or, maybe it was a weird issue on there end that I could fix simply by rebooting my phone before they fixed it without me having to do that.
If that makes any sense at all. Haha.

[Q] Wi-Fi issues

Has anyone been having any Wi-Fi problems like the signal keeps dropping? Because for some reason my signal keeps dropping and coming back.

I've had issues with the wifi connection as well but messing with some of the settings seemed to have worked for now.
If you have ruled out router issues...
I've read that you can try to uncheck the connections optimizer option in More Settings -> Mobile Networks may help.
i have noticed this. does this have any night time auto-off saving stuff like the htcs had?
also, I've noticed my gtalk won't stay logged in at night, regardless of Wi-Fi connected or not

Odd wifi issue.

I'm running stock unrooted now since the 4.3update.
I noticed now that I cannot connect to wifi routers without an Internet connection..
I race rc cars and we have an app. That pulls results from a laptop via wifi... When I attempted to connect I get an error "network connection disabled because Internet is slow" all other Android users can connect including other gs3... I just tried at home to get the same error. If I pull the phone line same error. So it appears I cannot connect to networks that don't have Internet connections..
This is a problem I never had before going official ota Rom...
Is there a setting I should look for in settings that maybe off?
Thanks

Might have discovered the solution.. Won't be able to test till next Wednesday tho. There is setting called Auto network switch...
I can stay on my wifi now with a Warning of no Internet
