[Q] My Xperia Play slider problem. - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my phone was working very well without any problems, but few days ago when i was at my bro's place i dont know if i slept on the phone or what but when i woke up i found that the phone had been slid out and it was restarting and the xperia play launcher was automatically launching, i couldnt understand what was wrong so i disabled launch xperia play launcher when device slide out option.
but then i found that my device does not recognize that it has been slid out i.e screen orientation does not change when device slide out also xperia play launcher does not auto launch on device slide out(when the option has been enabled).
then i saw that my screen orientation would change automatically for portrait to landscape and vice versa without any reason, some times this happens very fast and screen appears to be flickering.
the phone is acting really weird does anyone know what might be the problem and have a solution for it.

Try fixing it using the PC companion or SUS(sony update service). If you have knowledge on flashing that would be much easier and faster. You will have to install those apps to your pc of course. If it'll not work, just crossed fingers and wish it is not a hardware problem but in my experience, I even dropped my phone and slept with it but still working good. Is the touchscreen is messing? Is it responsive?

touchscreen is fully responsive no problem with touchscreen, i tried factory resetting the phone through cwm but no help. currently the phone seems to be working fine but only problem is that the phone does not detect that the gamepad has been slid out so the screen does not change orientation and also some games do not work with gamepad like PES2012 anymore.

Don't be so sure. There are two of those involved and a third component that's even more likely.
It could be the main slide cable (~$10), the one with the switches for Back, Home, Menu, and Search (~$4), or the metal fingers that are part of the slider assembly (~$20). It might be best just to get the whole slider assembly with cables (~$23) because it comes with all of that and then some (earpiece/camera).

[Q] Unresponsive screen replacement phone

I recently had to replace my Evo and when I go to replace my phone I see they take it out of a replacement box. I always hated liked the idea of a refurbished phone but I was desperate and hey if it works then what the hell. Its been 2 weeks and I've noticed problems with the screen response and sometimes losing control of it. for example i could be on Facebook and it will just start scrolling up and down rapidly I also have trouble moving from screen to screen having to make a slow full swipe or it wont work this also occurs unlocking the screen.A more common issue is when typing in portrait "i" and "n" don't work and I'm forced to switch to landscape. Although this happens frequently there is no way i can prove this to a Sprint store considering this happens randomly. Could i still ask for a replacement and what are chances i can get a NEW phone? Also is this a problem with the screen or one that can be solved?
Thank you in advance
I noticed times like that, also when I swyped it showed a very jagged line and wouldn't put the correct word down, I found that during those times I had it plugged into the charger, unplugged and it works fine, how to fix? I dunno, is yours caused by the charger too?
I've noticed my lockscreen issue is caused when charging and as for the keyboard no it happens randomly
I'd take it in, and try do perform actions and have it messed up. You can still express your disdain for the replacement.

Slide to unlock not working

A couple days ago I noticed the slide to unlock function stopped working. Sometimes after a rebot it work again. Sometimes opening the gamepad the screen goes to landscape display and it can be unlocked. But today it has gone completely frozen, none of these workarounds seems to work. The phone seems fine, it turns on and off correctly, but since it is locked by default I can't do a thing. Also, I had it to request the SIM pin code at start up, but since it locked it doesn't connect to the network. The only thing that works is holding On/Off button, and selecting shut work with the gamepad.
When it does unlock it only work in landscape mode, when the screen is vertical nothing works!
In other forums this problems seems to be related to HTC phones (mine is Xperia Play, 8 months old, not rooted, v. it ends with 69 I don't know the exact number) or a low battery problem (is fully charged). My guess is that opening and closing the phone to use the gamepad might have damaged some bus cable in the screen. Does anyone ever had a problem like this and know how to fix it, if it software related?
All technology seems to be against me: Windows Phone discontinued support for 6.5 after I got one and now this with Android. iPhone seems the only thing that works "kinda" well and I've never had one

[Q] Problem - Flex Cable and Brightness

Hi there, this is my first time here! oh and.. sorry for my bad english.
By the way, 2 weeks ago, i bought a new flex cable from ebay, i take it to a phone repair shop, for replacement..after 4 days i get phone back, but
now, when i try to slide the xperia play, the brightness go to minimal possible(near complete black) when the xperia play is completely open, the brightness is ok.
Is very annoying, because when i use phone normally (like write message or slide the page), this problem happen very often.
But is not end here.
When i push some buttons (like home,menĂ¹ or search), a strange color appear on the screen (like a magnet near a TV) the effect ends when i stop to push <.<
And the last problem:
Sometimes, when the phone is in stand-by and i push the power button, the screen not work, i need to push and push it again until the phone work.
The phone is not off, its like if there is not power for turn on the screen or something to similar.
So.. i need your help how can fix it?
I think the problem is always the flex cable, but i wanna know what i can do for now, for example...can i do something for avoid the problem with the slide? like..some APK that can force block the brightness sensor,or a command ..i dunno!
There is someone with those problem?
Please help me! and thank you!

[Q] Phone stuck in screensaver mode

Hi!
I brought my Xperia Play phone USED two years ago and I've never had any problems with it.
However, recently, the phone has started to freeze itself in "screensaver" mode (Where the screen goes black after 15 seconds and locks the phone), but the screen won't light up no matter which button I press. I've had to restart the phone every time this happens.
It's been behaving strange at start up as well, as it sometimes take 20 minutes just for it to turn on, while on other occasions, it won't turn on at all!
Is this problem caused by the battery, or is it the hardware?
Is it with stock firmware?

Yes.
I've never modded it or installed custom firmware/apps.
Have you tried factory resetting it?

Yes, but it didn't fix it. The problem still occurs.
tldr: Black screen, no display, everything works "under" (I can answer the phone etc). Not a flex cable problem because occurs randomly, regardless of the slider being open or closed. The problem also occurs during boot up, so rather not a software problem.
I think I have something similiar. Everything was fine until a few days ago the screen didn't want to unlock..or at least I thought it was that.
Basically the phone sometimes works OK but sometimes if I turn off (lock) the screen, it won't go back. To be precise, the phone works and if someone calls me I can pick it up moving the finger where the slider should be, it's just the display doesn't turn on. Same goes for booting, bootloader logo etc, so IMO it's not a software problem.
Strange thing is that it just randomly pops back, sometimes when I move the gamepad slider, sometimes when I put in a jack cable or if I hard reset the phone (remove battery). I've had problems with the flex cable in the past and this time I know that it's not it (no difference if I open/close the slider).
My guess would be some power supply or LCD driver IC issues, because the screen stops working almost everytime if I put the phone into the dock. Moreover, if the screen doesn't work, the orange charging LED is not working (green and blue are OK). The moment the screen starts working, the orange charging LED starts working too.
it's very strange but I'm used to electronics doing strange stuff. Just wondering if I should give a try disassembling the phone and trying to fix it or just buy a new one or something?
I might add that I have bought a new battery ~3 months ago, but it's been working fine to this point. I have tried if the same problem occurs with the old/original battery and it's the same.
well, any ideas?
edit: This video shows something very similiar (except the backlight): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4p0-kv1cxA
Same problem. And I guess this guy has it too.

Accelerometer stuck? Anyone else have this issue?

I had a day or two where I was unable to get my phone to change orientation from portrait to landscape. Mainly for watching netflix or Youtube. I found a work around for youtube, I had to flip the orientation of the device and press the full screen button. But then my phone was locked in landscape and wouldn't go back to portrait unless I shut the screen off and unlocked the phone again.
I dealt with this for two days, I checked settings to make sure that "auto rotate" was enabled, I disabled it and re-enabeld it just to be certain.
I'm not sure what really fixed it, I started tapping it lightly against the table while the phone was in landscape mode. After about 3 light taps the phone started responding to the changes in orientation again.
Now my question is... What happened, and Why?
I assume that the accelerometer got stuck, but has any one else experienced any issues like this?
So far this is the first issue that I have had out of the device and it has been an awesome 3 weeks
I have an Otterbox Commuter installed on the phone, in case that helps.
Happened here too.

Mine is currently stuck as well. My girlfriend turned rotation off and since turning it back on it won't work. Turning the phone off didn't help.
I've seen multiple users here and on Reddit have fixed the stuck accelerometer by lightly banging against a table.. I find it quite amusing
They get stuck sometimes, especially if the phone has had an impact from dropping. It's a small miracle that they work at all.
If yours gets stuck all the time it could be a bad chip. I'd replace the phone while it's under warranty.
Same problem
After accidentally turning off auto rotate several months ago it stopped working. A light smack on the back of phone fixed it and haven't had a problem since.
