I can't be sure if it's me but sometimes I get really bad sound quality on phone calls after flashing any audio mod. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks.

There is only one audio mod which has no effect on phone calls for me, its "Awesome Beats".
All the others I tried or those which are built into custom roms with the except of Beats distorts
the phone call incoming voice unless I turn the audio way down making it way too quiet.
None of the audio mods have any effect on the out-going voice.
It's actually 2 for me. Whether it's been merged into the ROM or installed as a 3rd party app, Awesome Beats and Noozxoide has had no affect on call quality. That just goes to show how different each device really is lol

Strange, I thought I tested em all, but I have never heard of Noozxoide until I read your post.
I will have to give it a try, our devices are really not that different...
It's just that I never heard of Noozxoide til now.
It's pretty good, not the BEST but it definitely makes a difference.
Every device, even the same model, can very well handle ROMs, kernels, mods, scripts, binaries, etc.. differently and that's what I was referring to.
You know this though.

Power amp. Give it a shot. Best player sound i have found.

when I had my vibrant I was using poweramp.
Now, with the S2, I removed the stock music player.
And use ubermusic player combined with the equalizer app.
Personally I have no interest in XLoud or Beats.
DSP Manager is perfect, light weight, and easily surpasses the two in functionality. It just needs to be configured right.
Numerous threads state that these two are a placebo / more of a gimmick. From personal use I have to agree. A waste of resources.
BRAVIA engine however is quite a different story
I like player pro, it's pure and no changes to the sound.

Thanks. But I was more concerned with speaker volume and speaker quality and not equalizer stuff or headphone quality. I heard xloud tries to prevent the speakers from sounding tinny but rather more fuller and louder. DSP achieve the same and more is what you are saying?
Does BRAVIA engine makes the video quality look better or the video to perform better (less choppiness or shutter)?
Power amp has it's own dsp

Not one rom on any of the D2 (US S III) devices has call recording as an option expect maybe ICS roms and MIUI roms. Crazy, but that's the way it is.
That is crazy.....

i got call recording to work with 2 different apps..record mic and call, and i guess the other one is mentioned above..
the only way was with speaker phone on...

They work, if you want to put up with microphone recording.

What's that mean, I have no interest in this but not sure what you mean lol.
Recording apps have to use the phone's external microphone to record audio (for both sides) on this device, since the kernels don't support it.
With little tweaking (read the instructions), Call Recorder from skvakex (10$) work perfectly well.
I think you need the right rom/kernel, I use carbonrom + ktkernel.

You could flash and try the boomsound mod or flash PureXaudio, it really does improve the sound and makes it louder.

2 x's louder kiss your speakers good bye
I have an s2... Which has had its volume increased by quite a lot.. And its lowest is like the max I would get before flashing that mod.. It works perfectly fine.. No damage to the speakers.. And if that phone can handle it.. I am sure this one can surely do..

The Devs and app designers on here have a fairly good idea of the max levels of the boomsound speakers,as the speakers pass their optimal performance level, sound ehancements and audio boosting mods simply distort the speakers.....until they go POP, there was a mod being worked on a while ago, where we trialed different adjustments to various files to improve loudness and quality and tested multiple music players, recording sound level(db) output, the loudest music player, with greatest adjustment was PowerAmp, full version, dunno if this helps, just my offering
Ill have a look to see if the guy is still working on files, or whether or not its workable with the new updated 4.2 onwards
ok here's the thread, not been updated recently - but Justin hasnt got his phone sorted yet - have a little look HERE may be what your after or may help

I know a lot are having audio issues when making or receiving a call for whatever reason on 4.3 ROMs, well a workaround I found is you need to plug in your headphones in and use those, or once the call is connected unplug headphones and you'll retain call audio

Being a bit of an audiophile, I find it hard to use this phone on anything but a Sense/GPE ROM due to lack of the "Beats" EQ (Beats sounds more direct while everything else is too open). Would it be possible to port whatever libraries said EQ needs to an AOSP ROM? Awesomebeats and similar things don't seem to work on 4.3

That's one of the primary reasons why I'm on a gpe instead of other AOSP Roms. I hope it could be an option or something, cause frankly the speakers sound like crap without it :/

I found a mod for beats for all apps for the rezound ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587168&highlight=beats ) it might help in what to do or look for for the BEATS MOD

Most audio guys here (including me) hate beats. So it's funny seeing someone trying to get it back.
I prefer AOSP with a very slight PowerAmp EQ.

I like beats for movies and you tube but hate it for power amp. I disable it when I use PA and use the built in srs and eq

Too open as in compression. Sound seems to "echo" around the speaker instead of being directed like it does with the beats EQ.
