I have tried multiple cables and multiple computers (2 running Windows 7, one running Windows Server 2008 R2). I have installed the latest version of the HTC Sync Manager. The phone charges when plugged in but otherwise as far as the computer is concerned it does not exist.
Any suggestions?

I was happily running HTC Sync 2.0.33 with Froyo + Sense ROMs and i installed the new HTC Sync 3.0.5372 (Im running an XP PC)
After it installed ok it would not detect my phone. In Device Manager i have a "My HTC" device under "Android USB Devices".
I also noticed i have a USB Drive but i cannot access it as my phone is in Sync mode and not Disk Drive mode.
I uninstalled and put on the older 2.0.33 again and that would not detect the phone either.
I installed HTC Sync 3.0.5372 on another XP PC and its fine on that , it is detect straight away, so i know its not the phone
Any ideas or is there an alternative sync program I can use to sync with Outlook 2007
so is this really a damn point that HTC has problems with it?
my system (win7 ultimate x64) cannot connect to the DHD with HTC Sync 3.0.5481 (wildfire edition).
i tried it so much times. again and again. deleted all drivers, installed it again. nothing.
if i press SYNC-mode when i connect my dhd to my pc, nothing happens.
wrong, there is something happen: there is an "android phone" in my hardware-folder...
but the drivers are WRONG! now, how can i get the REAL drivers, and HOW can i get this work.
the DHD is a very great phone, and i NEED to sync my outlook... this is necessairy!
thanks for tips and tricks.
cheers from switzerland!
Don't know about win7 64bit but I use Soocial to sync my contacts over various accounts and it will also sync to Outlook. No solution to calendar or other things tho so sorry

Works fine for me on Win7 x64, I just downloaded the sync software from HTC, Installed, Plugged phone in and it worked.
Same here. Win 7 x64. Works fine.
I'm using it also on my x64 Win-7. I've downloaded the drivers from the HTC-site and it just works. I've tried it on my 'old' laptop, and last week at the new laptop I bought and on both it just works the first time.
Try to uninstall all the drivers, then download HTC Sync from the HTC-site and first install the software, then connect your phone. Hopefully that works!
From a fresh install on a machine that hasn't ever seen HTC Sync. Tried to install 3.0. Doesn't detect my HTC Desire. Tried rebooting, unistall/reinstall. I think the new version is bugged. Maybe if previous versions where installed it might work.
Not sure if it's relevant, but I had to disable my antivirus while installing HTC Sync on my Win7 x64 machine.
A lot of software says that, and I usually ignore it with no ill effects, but in this case it really did make a difference. The drivers didn't load correctly until I disabled the antivirus during installation.
So if you didn't disable your AV, it might be worth uninstalling HTC SYnc, disabling your AV, and reinstalling, to see if that makes a difference.
What version of MS Office are you using? I had kind of the same problem (win 7 x64), using office 2010 64 bit. I reinstalled office as 32 bit, and now it works fine..
I used the Sync that came on the SD card of DHD and it worked perfectly fine...i was able to Sync with Outlook etc., I also used to have a Previous version of Sync for Tattoo...that didn't have any impact...
In this case , i think the problem is because of the Wildfire Sync version. Try installing from the SD card, that works like a charm
cheers

works for me. using win 7 ultimate (64bit)
must full charged before connect to laptop!
problem with HTC Desire HD, if connect to laptop, it charge and perhaps use more than 500mA (charger is 1A!!) and laptop can't recognize DesireHD, just display unknow periph.
After full charged, and green led, disconnect and immedialtly connect, and HTC sync work.
Working fine here on Win 7 Ultimate 64Bit.
As another poster mentioned, you will not be able to sync with 64bit version of Outlook so please ensure you are using the 32Bit version.
PS I downloaded and installed the latest version of HTC Sync from HTC's website.
Hi, My HTC Desire 816 is about 2 weeks old. I've had problems connecting the device to my personal computer (running Windows 7). I've reinstalled HTC Sync Manager several times, turned on USB Debugging, and even switched cables and ports but to no avail. When I try to update the driver, Windows faces an error saying it's unauthorized to install the driver for the device. However, the device connects perfectly to my office laptop also running Windows 7. I am able to transfer files on that system but not on my personal computer. The HTC website also has been of no help, except for asking to reinstall HTC Sync Manager. Please help. Thank You.
me too, need help
Tethering & Internet Pass Through
I have installed the latest version of HTC Sync Manager for my Desire 816 on Windows 7 and tried it on Windows XP as well.
When I connect my device for the first time after that, the drivers install automatically.
My system is recognizing the phone as a mass storage device.
But when I select the 'Internet pass through' connection type, it doesnt connect and after some time gives the error as
"Either you dont have the latest HTC drivers or ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,please get latest drivers by intalling latest HTC sync manger from the website"
I have tried to uninstall and re-install the HTC sync manager several times but had no success with Internet Pass through.
Might be the issue with the drivers, cant understand the reason.
Can anyone help me out with this.
I have also the same problem.

I am pretty sure that you guys have already tried all those, but just wanted to remind you all again as a benefit of doubt. HTC sync manager will install the required drivers usually, but in some cases due to firewall or any antivirus systems within our computer, only few files will get installed and other will get blocked. The best way to tackle this problem is to follow the below steps
1. Uninstall the HTC related drivers if installed partially previously.
2. Reboot the system - which is must
3. Then turn of your firewall or internet security or antivirus on your computer for 10 min or more
4. Connect the HTC 816 to computer using the different USB port that is not used before. (Every new USB port needs installing drivers. So hopefully this might help)
5. Install the HTC sync manager
Hopefully it should recognise. If not, try following the same steps with different USB cable.
Hit thanks if I helped you so that I will know the above steps worked for you guys too as they did work for me personally. All the best.
I can't access my HTC one X storage, however I can use computer's internet connection with my phone. This started after I reinstalled Windows 7 32-bit, other devices like my mouse and flash memory work fine.
I tried reinstalling drivers, deleting them, than manually installing again, using different usb cables and I always get the same message:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
MTP USB Device failed

Try downloading and installing HTC Sync Manager and reboot your PC just to be safe. Then try connecting the phone to your PC and see if that helps.
Hi guys,
my HTC One (M8) won't connect to my computer anymore for some reason. It charges, but I can't exchange files.
I am using CM 11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-m8 and a MacBook Pro with Yosemite.
It always worked before, so I don't know why it suddenly stopped. At first, I thought that it might have something to do
with Yosemite, but a few days ago I tried to connect my phone with an older Mac (that i also used in the past for flashing) and it didn't work either.
Those are the only computers I have ever connected my android devices to and it always worked.
I tried reinstalling android file transfer for mac, but it didn't do anything. I also used 4 different USB cables including the cable
that came with the phone. I even reinstalled HTC Sync, Java and the Android SDK just to be sure.
Thanks in advance for all answers.
