[Q] Note 2 best custom ROM AND buckup question - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all,
First post, Please dont bite!
I have used search but its all very confusing and not specific to me
Got my note 2 a few weeks ago, first android device and loving it
Just wondering what the best custom ROM is that allows me to retain that S pen functionality, but still allows all the glorious customisation and deleting of samsung apps i dont want
Also, i have bought 4 or 5 apps, and dont want to lose them when I root, how do I do this?
Many thanks

You dont loose the apps. They are saved in your google account so you can use them in any device.
Also, you can try Android Revolution HD 17. From what I see its the most downloaded ROM that is identical to stock! I also use it and its very very good!

Ok, forgot to mention in the post and it wont let me edit, will that bump the speed/battery life at all?
Also, i read something somewhere about a thing you do stop the network/samsung from detecting you have flashed it, so that you can restore it to stock and return it if need be, any help?
Thanks all so far!

If you mean return to samsung for claim warranty, then your binary count must zero ( use triangle away with stock recovery) and status of phone must be *official*. ( refer dr.ketan method).
Regarding to tweak the battery life and speed, I think is better you keep away of it, if you noob like myself. Without specific knowledge might broken the stable and balancing of the the rom itself.

You now have the option of installing a custom recovery and running one of numerous Roms for your phone. Just be sure what you choose is for your model.

Replying to the exsd card question.... If you update cwm via rom manager and install touch thru rom manager it will give you an option to install from exsd card at restore screen.

There are many apps, system themes, tools and tweaks you can't use unless rooted.
I know Android is highly customizable out of the box, but rooting opens the door and gives you even more control of your device.
Certain apps such a Vibrafix (haptic feedback disabler), AdAway(amazing ad blocker app that uses the same hosts file I have used on my PC for years), Inverted Gapps, and loads of great system maintenance tools that require root, etc, etc.
Welcome to the lovely world of root. I mainly root my phones to out new ROMS on. But they become to damn addictive so be careful lol. Now I just use root to take off all bloatware and ads custom kernels.... Have fun and yes read read read and read again. Before trying anything

Keep back-up of a good, working, configuration, and stick with your S3 variant. The same goes for flashing flashable zips - stick to the ROM you've chosen to flash (obviously this can vary with mods for any AOSP ROM, etc.).
General rule of thumb. I just rooted and flashed Slim Bean on my girlfriends S3, so I'm new to the S3 community too. Hoping I can find a solid AOSP build to flash on her phone.
Thread moved to Q&A.
@ OP, Do you see a general sense of the responses you're are getting? Reading, Reading, Reading is key. All of your questions are fundamental Android questions. You need to look into recoveries, root apps, different ROMs/Kernels - all of which can be found with a simple XDA or Google Search.
And please do not open and thread about, "Which ROM is the best?" or "What is your favorite ROM/Kernel combo?". Best advice I can give is to read a few OPs in the Dev section and if you find one that you like, check out the last 10 pages or so for bugs. Narrow it down to one that you want, then start reading.

Bingo.
Like yourself, I am new to the rom flashing scene. Once I get my phone set up exactly how I want it, I do a Nandroid.
After that, I do a standard backup at least ocne a week of my apps and their data.
Alot of backup apps will provide the ability to merge backups. This is a great feature because I could uninstall an app today that I like for some reason, and a few days from here when I do my next app backup, instead of having to reinstall it before the backup, it's already carried forward in the merged backup.
Just do your research before you flash ANYTHING!!!!!!. Any terms that you dont understand, just google. This is an awesome site, almost everything is already covered. Welcome to the darkside......or something.

So i finally rooted my LGOG v9. Finally!!! Now i want to flash because i cant wait for jelly bean. But im like so clueless. Like what are gaaps?? can someone please show me how to flash a good cm roms. Or make a vid!!!!
You should google first, I know everyone was a first timer at one point, but at least try googling how to use recovery to flash roms.
Do that, and follow the OP installation instructions, and you'll be fine.

Don't think that Rom will work for him. Chances are he has upgraded to the latest version of LG's firmware. And I doubt he will have luck trying to downgrade. Maybe link him to Houston's jb leaks. They flash problem free without having to downgrade.

Your best bet is to read, read, read. Each device may respond a little bit differently to each ROM, and what apps you install can have an effect as well. It can be a long process, but the only way to say what ROM works for you is to try it

Looks like you have the same phone I have (T-Mobile S4 SGH-M919), I want to install a clean and unbranded version of the ROM, I dont know whats happening but my phone is always low of memory, so I have to install Cleaner Master (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.mguard) to clean the memory every time I unlock the screen, but this is a S4 not a old Samsung phone and I dont think I have to use apps like that to keep the phone running smothly.. Before the S4 I had a Note2 and S3 and I never got problems like this and the S3 just have a 1 RAM, Any ideas?
Thanks

I have my phone rooted and with ClockMod Recover installed correctly.
I was thinking just go to sammobile to found the i9505 ROM and then install with Odin or ClockMod. How I can identify which is the right ROM to download?
thanks a lot!

Yes but you have to immediately flash a kernel that is compatible with T-Mobile. There are threads you can search for which list the compatible kernels.

Actually, all of the guys above are right, flash the rom, then YOUR CARRIERS kernel. But I am concerned with your odin thing.

[Q] Best Stock Rom For Note 2 N7100

Im a little confused when I look at the array of stock Roms to choose from.. This is my work phone, so don't want to root or custom.
nearly all roms on Samfirmware and Samsung-updates stop at July. I know we are getting KitKat and jumping 422, but what would be the best stock rom to install for now on a UK N7100, would that be Slovakia XXDMG1 or Turkey XXDMF3.
I did an OTA and the one installed is an old May 31 XXDMF1.
Thanks
First lesson: you cannot ask for a "best" anything. Best is only what's important to you.
Granted, your geographic region may play in to which options you have available, as some modems don't always play nicely.

Ugh. Can't modify my post
The better question would be to find out which roms/modems will work in your area, and go from there to pick out features.

Btw, I'm not trying to be rude in my answer. But any thread that starts with "best" is going to get flamed and likely closed by a moderator for those reasons. Each ROM is a unique piece of work, each with features some people love while others hate. "Best" will always come down to "what works for you"

Dude if u don't want to root then flash the latest stock rom of ur region..Since u mentioned that u don't want to root ur phone, its better to leave ur phone and wait for OTA updates.
Or u can flash "Android Revolution HD ROM" which is full stock with tweaks and better performance..for root issue,u can unroot it easily from supersu app itself..

Im interested in flashing Revolution HD. Im no stranger to flashing through ODIN, but Ive never rooted before so Im a bit nervous of bricking it, and because I use my phone for work.. I have my own business and need it for every day plus don't want t loose any features through a custom rom.. like S PEN or SOundAlive audio engine, so these combinations is why ive never rooted or custom'd.
But ill look at Revolution, however, ill have to start from the basics of rooting then on from there, but it looks nice
Thanks

Then definitely go for ARHD since its pure stock with tweaks and features
And no..rooting will no way brick ur device with a condition that it is done correctly..but that's rare case of bricking ur device via rooting

[Solved] [SM T211] is there no support for Custom Roms and Rooting

Hello members,
1. There is no official support for Cyanogen nor for Paranoid Android.
2. Rooting is only possible via a huge prerooted file, which can cause you security leaks in some causes. [Solved, root available]
3. Lock Screen Button fails to respond (Occasionally) and its not a hardware glitch. [Solved by OTA update]
4. Development support is over the internet is limited.
Here are my questions!
1> Anyone using any Custom ROMS with official support from the developers?

These tabs are just taking off wait for a while . There's no rush you all will get your support after the 210 and 210r . I am still lacking knowledge of these boards. Soon when I get those two get cm I may be able to port and add configurations for all the 7inch models but I can do it alone I needs some more devs to help as I have no kernel skills period or debugging skills. They all share common kernel source which is great I can too make common device source after this all gets worked out

hi! im a new member here. i am also having the same issue with t211 which i bought just last three weeks. the lag is so frustrating and i cant tolerate it. iv been searching for ways to fix the lag but theres nothing i can find that addresses the problem fast and theres no many options to try but only this one thing i found which is the app called lag fix. however it requires root access. tonight i finally made it rooting my t211 successfully and now im looking forward to try the app lag fix. but i found these posts here about rooting and as i was reading the comments in here, i can see that you guys seem so happy that you were able to root your t211. im just wondering if rooting is just enough to address the issue of lag. is it? im checking my tab now and i still cant tell if there is difference. i can still see delays.

i just wanna know guys whats with having the phone rooted? is there any way i can fix the problem besides using the app lag fix?
thank you so much for your reply..

I do experience lag every now and then but I just kill the tasks running. I usually end up restarting, my tab after 2-3 days. If you're experiencing major lag, I suggest reformatting your device and sdcard after doing a backup up of course. The root is worth it and its easy.

I hope so. Has anyone flashed this? Looks like the only working ROM for the T211.
