4G issue - LG Optimus G (International)

Hi guys just bought lg optimus g. I am a hardcore mobile phone fan and really wanted to use this set as it has 4.7 inch display which is suitable for my hand. I live in Bangladesh where all the carrier are 2g except teletalk recently introduced us 3g. But whenever I put that sim on og it is showing 4g. I even selected wcdma from settings. Then I put this sim on my Xperia z and note 2. It is showing h that means hsdpa and 3g. My question is why only og showing 4g? I know its cool to show off to my friends but still I wanna know. Thanks.

Can you use 3g data while talking on the phone?

I am going in the morning to upgrade my line and was wondering if you can use 3g data and talk on the phone at the same time? I've used the gs3 and the evo lte and able to do so.
This would be a deal breaker if I can't and the idiots that should know (sprint) don't! Thanks

I would verify with another tester, as my connection isn't very good at work. But while on 3G data, I cannot go to any websites on the browser. Wi-Fi, however, works fine while on a call. Odd...
EDIT: It does not support SVDO, but it does support SVLTE. From http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-317-updated-lg-eclipse-4g-casts-an-early-shadow/

Wow, I assumed this was a CDMA limitation, not a phone limitation. You've been able to talk and get data simultaneously without turning on wifi or 4g on the GS3 and Evo LTE on Sprint?
My wife just got her Optimus G, I'll have to try this out tonight.

I'm surprise as well. I thought that all sprint phone calls and text use the CDMA spectrum and therefore no data would be available during that time. You can still use LTE i think (if it is in your area).
Yes you are able to on both phones I mentioned due to the fact they have an extra radio in them. Thanks for the replies.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
What do you mean extra Radios...I always thought it was an Apple patent issue. 3G has nothing to do with talk service cecause you can shut it off and still place your calls. Calling, 3G data, 4G data, and Wifi are all seperate radios...if I'm not mistaken. Iphones doit on sprint so there for I believe it's an Apple patent issue but if the SIII does it then I don't know I guess. My Evo3D would not do it.
Just tried with my G...nope can't do it. I still believe it's an apple thing...annoying.

You can shut off data and still send SMS, it goes through the normal voice calling section. But MMS requires the data to be on.
It's not related to patents. It's related to hardware capabilities and standards.
For those like me that didn't know it was possible, here's a thread of people discussing the GS3 on Sprint having dual radios to enable simultaneous voice and data without being connect to 4g or wifi.
The capability is referred to as SVDO (simultaneous voice and data). I assume the O is for operation.
I tested my wife's Optimus G on Sprint and it doesn't work.
Wow thought Android phones were way advanced compared to I phones ( they still are in my opinion )...ohwell I'm still not ever going to switch to apple devices lol. I'm just happy with talking then seaching lol.
It's phone related as the S3 can do it. The LG cannot. I used to be able to when I had the S3 but when testing the OG I can't. I think it has to do with the S3 having a second radio for that kind of thing and the LG cutting that space out for the quad core + LTE. The LG is a sexier phone IMO so the trade off is worth it for me.
I went ahead and got the phone because it's so smooth but just after one day I already miss data while on a call. I'm gonna give it a week and see if I can deal with it. Thanks for all the input.

I agree man it sucks, I had the white evo lte and man it used to come in handy at times especially in areas with no lte service. But then again.... That quad core processor and that 13mp cam... Give it some time man once the awesome devs get to working on it this phone will be a monster to be reckoned with!!

Not so fast buddy, my Samsung Epic 4G Touch does it with the Kangpang JB Rom
and that phone is way inferior to the Optimus G. I also took pictures and texted them
while on a call using 3G and 4G. Sorry I couldn't help myself I compete with Iphones at
work all day. Also with the 2100 N battery upgrade (Ebay $30-50 ) I got NFC to work
with JB to GIII and Samsung Nexus.
Funny thing is this phone has all the hardware to do svdo it's just not turned on in the software. If you look at the FCC diagram it has two cdma antennas which are needed. So I bet if LG wanted to with a simple update to the radio it could be activated
I came from the LG Viper 4G LTE I was so disappointed that my TOP OF THE LINE Optimus G couldn't do simultaneous voice and data like my old Viper. I love the Optimus G but I might have to go with "GAG" GS3 or EVO LTE

SVDO is not possible on the Samsung Galaxy Epic 4G Touch. SVDO is exclusive to 3G and It's a feature built in to the newer Qualcomm chips in the Evo Lte, GS3, and LG Viper. Those are the only sprint phones capable of SVDO. What you did have is 4G data over calls since it uses a different radio (not 3g). SVDO is based on the Qualcomm chip not how many radios you have on your phone. My note 2 can't do svdo since Samsung chose to use their Exynos chip instead of the Qualcomm. Something I'm upset about but can live with since lte is coming and will be possible with SVLTE.

[Q] Having a problem with my "H" and "3G"

Firstly i would like to apologize if this issue has been treated before but i think i read into the 12th page and nothing yet... i got an htc desire hd a week ago and as at when i got it it was still locked, i didnt see an H sign or a 3g sign and i used it for 4 days before rooting it, i also tried custom roms and flashed my radio, i tried factory reset too and i also made sure my apn settings were correct, i tried switching to airplane mode from the suggestions i got here and i even tried switching to 3G only but it only shows me the bars with an 'X' sign showing that there isnt any signal, while i can still get an H on another HTC very close to it. please if there is anything i didnt do can anyone suggest it to me...any suggestion would be appreciated...sorry if this post offends anyone...if i had known better i wouldn't have put it up.
Is this desire hd or inspire 4g? Both support 3g on different bandwidth? Where are u from? Check with your service provider about the network bandwidth on whic 3g runs.
Thanks doesn't hurt....
It's an inspire 4g...thanks. I checked with with 2 Sims and 2 different providers and still the same thing

I think u need to enable data first. Even u force the network to select 3g, it will not show up in the network bar with data disabled.
Setting > data usage > turn on mobile data. This method is for cm10.1 so use your own discretion on another type of roms.

Inspire 4G was sold in the USA and the international model was the Desire HD. Check if the frequency bands match for USA and the country where you're trying to use the phone. That should give a clue as to why 3g is not being picked up.

GSM : 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
HSDPA : 850/1900 MHz
While desire hd on 2100 MHz for 3g.

AT&T G PRO E980 on T-Mobile

E980 from eBay; unlocked with number code (no data service on T-Mobile at this point-only phone); rooted with XDA instructions-verified with Joey Krim’s Root Checker basic; installed SuperSU; installed ASTRO file manager pro (had it from prior phone) - could not access Build Prop file so installed Joey Krim’s Build Prop Editor; as per XDA instructions changed ro.radio.networkmode=disable to ro.radio.networkmode=enable (and SAVED!!!). Opened “Settings”; “Networks”; “Tethering and Networks”; “Mobile Networks” (which now shows “Network Mode” which I entered and selected “GSM/WCMDMA/LTE auto”; then went down to “Network Operators” and opened and checked “automatic”. After booting there was no change in data access and I figured out problem was with APN (“Access Point Names”) settings - went to uTube for "MMS/APN settings for HTC Inspire T-MOBILE " and using pause button got the APN data needed. Went back to “Mobile Networks” page and clicked on “Access Point Names” which opens a blank page. Clicked on the lower right “Menu” button which opens small window at bottom with two options-pick the “New APN” which opens the full page for entry of the uTube data (I did not find on this E980 a place to enter “MMS Protocol:WAP 2.0"). Rebooted and data service appeared. The data service was “E” (Edge apparently) but I live on Mexican border and no LTE yet nor has T-Mobile apparently switched their “4G” to 1900 band. I will investigate with T-Mobile support how, if possible in this market, to move up the data food chain. My prior phones were Palm Treos then HTC G2 and RAZORs for landline replacement with PhoneLynx devices.
LG says without hardware flash no possibility (if at all) of 4g operation and not sure will work now with LTE from T-Mobile (not in my area yet). T-Mobile support says G Pro is not in their system yet. Amazing to me that all phone manufacturers do not have frequency agile products - my 12 year old RTI TV remote handles multiple frequencies and IR. LG support would not comment on Key Lime Pie . . .
I feel bad for users of other carriers who can't get the G Pro. Its stupid how LG makes it exclusive on AT&T than does little to nothing to market it. LG is just hurting the sales potential of the device by not making it more available in the US market.
I agree. Although it has been confirmed that this device will work and get T-Mobile 4G and LTE. I dont understand why T-Mobile won't market this phone. Its clearly a Note 2 beater in every aspect.

I think AT&T has put a stranglehold on LG just like VZW does with some of their partner manufactures. You can bet there were some back room deals going on prior to release.

LG reminds me of Commodore back in the 1980s: GREAT products, but not a clue how to market them. The OG Pro has a big H/W advantage over the Galaxy Note II and a larger screen (with less bloatware) than either the HTC One or S4; LG should be running comparison ads non-stop. What do we get instead? Almost nothing.

Okay I understand that the bootloader is currently locke but assuming it gets unlocked would it be possible to flash a custom modem to create support for tmobile 4g in un-refarmed areas? something like they did for the note one?
How does The LG Pro G work on T-Mobile? I live in a re-farmed area and am thinking of switching to the T-Mobile $30 prepaid plan.I have the chance to get a Pro G for $49,my plan was to get it,unlock it and use it on T-Mobile.

Probably not. What helped the Note in this regard was it's similarity to the Galaxy S2 hardware, and then T-Mobile release the Note on their network. T-Mobile doesn't carry any LG devices with even remotely similar hardware.
Have people been able to unlock phones that were previously locked? I'm assuming so, since I have seen unlocked ATT Phones. I want to buy one on eBay and then get an unlock code, but wanted to make sure it was possible first. I'm switching from the Note II. I love Samsung, but hate the Camera...
4G and LTE Works on T-Mobile
I was digging around in the not so secret.....secret menu and experimenting with options and found that you can simply activate the 4G and LTE on the Optimus G Pro. I will post a few screenshots of the home screen and of some speed tests for your amazement.......
You can access the LG menu by entering 3845#*980#
I'm not responsible if you blow your phone up....please be careful.
I'm using the ATT Lg Optimus G Pro here in Canada with my Rogers carrier and get full LTE speeds just by adding Rogers LTE APN settings. this would be the same for Bell or Telus. I have to say trading my s4 for this device was a smart move! Ya sure no dev support because of locked bootloader, I'm sure eventually that will change

Does the icon change from just the E?
Where are you using it and what carrier? It may be your APN settings.
I'm pretty sure it's not the APN, used the same settings on another phone, just switched sims.
My location is Trinidad, and my carrier is bMobile (Cable&Wireless)
And 4G still works when I put the sim back in the other phone ( A Samsung Galaxy Note)
edit: I tried wiping, rebooting, switching the data on and off.....even flashed over the stock ROM, still no go. Just edge.
I'm bumping this cuz I installed CM10 and still no dice.
Forgot to mention that my SIM was cut to fit the phone.
Don't know if that would affect my 4g?
Ok so I am not getting 4G because the phone isn't detecting WCDMA.
Anyone have a fix for this?
Can I flash E980 on my phone?
So here's the deal, E988 does not work on 4G in my country, but the E980 would.

Customers must have a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) or High Speed Pocket Access (HSPA) or High Speed Pocket Access Plus (HSPA+) handset capable of a 1900 megahertz frequency (“4G Compatible Handset”) to subscribe to a Standard Data Plan or a 4G compatible BlackBerry handset to subscribe to a BB Data Plan.

[Q] G3 4G to LTE

HI to all,
we got two LG G3, one F400L and one D855. How can I change the 4G sign in the status bar to LTE? The F400 is showing LTE while the D855 is showing 4G. I guess its a marketing thing for different regions but I like the LTE
The topic is discussed in the forums but users are complaining about Wifi issues after which I dont want.
