Can't you unzip the stock rom and pull the ones you need?
I Don't know how to unpack the *.bin files.

What are you talking about? The files don't come in *.bin format, they come in .qmg format
I would upload it for you, but idk what package it was that I froze and broke Dropbox...
Just use winzip, 7zip or jzip and open the stock ROM package, Navigate to system\media and extract your .qmg files you need.

Hi, everybody....
I've just edit a bootanimation.zip file, but It doesn't work. I use Nexus Prime bootanimation.zip, then I open it with WinRAR. I replace all *.jpg files that comes with Nexus prime bootanimation file by drag N drop several image file with .jpg extension. I also make sure that the file's name is same with Nexus Prime image.
After replacing, I send the new bootanimation to SD card, moving it to System/Media by using Root Explore, then Reboot my phone...
But, I don't see bootanimation while the phone's wake up...
Any solution??
Is the compression the same as the originals?

Emmm.... I don't know about that... I've just replace the original image files with mine... Then just click "Ok". Am I wrong??
Hurm.
open original bootanimation using winrar,
make sure the file name and resolution that you are using same as the original inside the zip.
Now just drag and drop your file to the bootanimation.zip, it will overwrite the original file inside the. Zip.
Close zip and copy to sd, and place it in the right place. Set the permission if im not mistaken 6-4-4 or rw-r--r-- .
Now reboot and see if it boot using you custom animation.
But aren't bootanimation only in. Png format??

Hai Nujhum... Yeah, right... I've done it before... Same with what you say...
Maybe try using something like 7-zip. I know for fact that WinRar sometimes changes something in the header of the file and even though it's ZIP file not all un-zip utilities can extract it.

Can someone please help I've been looking everywhere and I can't find the right answer. I read a forum-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464791, and I just don't know at all how to "unpack" the tar.bz2 file?
You have to unpack it with all the subdirectories with something like 7Zip. Then copy it exactly with all subdirectories to your sd card.
I know that , but how do you unpack it? (I'm really new to all of this)

Isn't the tar file supposed to become a zip file and then you flash that... so if you extract that tar file (which I did and) it still becomes a tar not zip.

Thank you so much! I can't believe I didn't figure this out earlier.
how do i extract the contents of 4.0.2.A.42.ftf so that i can load it into custom rom creator studio and edit this stock rom/firmware to my liking? i wish to build my own rom from scratch and i want to base it from a stock rom of my phone (xperia play r800i). can anyone point me into this development/modding of roms?
Here are what i need to do:
1. removed bloatware stuff that i think is really bloatware for me
2. tweak the build.prop, init.d, sysctl.conf files, etc.
3. have my own home launcher
4. edit system.ui or the main looks of my android phone
5. incorporate auto-rooting feature to my rom
6. adding my own battery saving techniques to this rom through undervolting, governors and io schedulers.
If there is a thread on this topic which is universal for all android phones please give me a link. thanks. I have tested different roms for my xperia play and I decided that the best thing now for me is to be a rom developer as well. I already have Eclipse, JDK and Android SDK, Flashtool, etc. to begin with. What else do i need? thanks
I can't really help, but for #6 you'll need to make a kernel

You can extract the .sin files from the .ftf with an archiving program like 7zip or Winrar, then user sin2img to convert the data and system .sin files to a readable .img format. Then edit the files from there

it seems that my winrar version is obsolete lol installed 4.11 now and 7zip to be sure. now where do i edit my apks?
My laptop broke,i usually mod my roms using 7zip,i remove or add apk files and more.
Is there any way to do this on the phone?I dont know of any compression apps in the market that will let me add or delete files while leaving the rom intact.
If i just unzip the rom,mod it and rezip it,will it work?Or it needs to be a certain zip format?
Use any file explorer that allows you to unzip/rezip
As long as you navigate back to the original file structure (usually /system, META-INF folders and boot.img) and zip up those three you'll be fine and be able to flash your modified zip in a custom recovery
I'm not familiar with any program able to properly decompile an apk or jar by using JUST the phone but if your just adding/deleting apk's you'll be good with just about any file explorer

What about the compression method?Should i choose High,Low or Medium?
And are you sure it doesnt have to have some special zip method?Dont want to brick, lol.
Thats what i was thinking just to use ES File Explore because it has built in zipl.

I use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx
Download the added root apk from the developers website. Extract the ROM you wanna modify, navigate to the extracted ROM and do whatever, then navigate to the original file structure and zip up those contents to flash in recovery
If there are different options for zip just use the defaults

Thanx a lot man,it worked!ES Explorer can only compress folders but FX Explorer can compress saperate files.I used higest compression.
Now i feel like i dont need windows or osx anymore,i can do just about everything on android.Oh and FX Explorer is definetly nice,i might use it instead of ES now,to bad they make you pay for it.
Can anyone give me the bootanimation.bin file located in /system/bin/ ? I can't use video bootanimation on my custom rom.

Thanks BTW bro. I have a doubt regarding this bootanimation stuff. When I unzip the bootanimation.zip file, i see folders like part0, part1, part2,etc which contains png images of the ultimate boot animation (even in the zip file u gave). And I've seen in other zip files where there are no png images but instead an mp4 file of the boot animation. The zip files containing mp4 files doesn't work on my phone. Do you know anything about this? Please help.
