Which rom have you liked the most? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Just sharing my Experiences, and hoping you would share yours.
In my case, it was JMT6, which gave me the best battery life imaginable. I am really missing it...

AOKP, except it sounded like I was underwater despite trying every fix I could find. Stock rooted and debloated is my new favorite. Ever since the JB update it has been running smooth, and touchwiz was greatly improved too. Stock ICS was awful, constantly freezing.

i never really felt anything special with AOKP...

Well, I like the "pure" Android roms, and I like to stick to tried and true roms, so far I have only tried AOKP and cyanogenmod as far as AOSP roms. I felt AOKP was less buggy than cyanogenmod, but in both cases call quality was terrible.

LiquidSmooth, Milestone, and Jellybam are the best jb roms that I used. Foxstar, Slickmod, Juggernaut, and Beastmod for gb. And too many ics roms Jedi Mind Trick, Infamous, Darkside Evolution, and Extremexperia just some that I remember. But stock is completely bland and boring. Gotta be themed with custom bootanimations, audio mods, themes, build prop and int.d tweaks, overclocking for cpu and gpu, or it just ain't gonna fly with me. Just my two cents on this topic.

On gingerbread, my favorite was juggernaut. On ICS I stuck with stock debloated. Jellybean I have to say it's the JMT Jellybean. This might be the best rom my phone has ever run period. Ptmr3 definitely is a very talented dev.

Always stuck with touchwiz ROMs, id say the new Jb Jedi mind trick is pretty damn good, but personally the new infamous Jb is where my hearts at

[Q] TW ICS ROM Comparison. Which do you prefer and why?

I think I'm ready to jump back into the ICS pool now that things are a lot more stable from the earlier leaks.
We have such a great development community for this phone that there are just too many flavors out there to try them all. I know I want to stick with TW based ROMs simply because I like the little things TouchWiz adds to the stock Android base.
I'm leaning towards Frankenstein's Ego or Calkulin's 2 because I've had a great experience with both Calk and Team ERA in the past, but I don't want alienate other good ROMs.
So I want to hear from you guys. Out of all of the ICS TW ROMs, which do you prefer as a daily driver? What do you/don't you like about it? Have you personally run into any problems with freezing, rebooting, lagging, etc?
Thanks!

Does Calkulin's newest ROM have TW? I have it, but am not sure how to use it.

It does. I'm not sure if I had a bad install or what but Calkulin's ROM had some issues. The two main ones were, spazzy scrolling and many force closing of apps. When it was working it was crazy smooth though so I'm going to either try again or wait til it's more stable.

TouchWiz is more than just the launcher. It's the framework, too. Anything that isn't AOSP-based is running on the TouchWiz frame, for lack of a better word.

Thank you! I actually just found it as a launcher. Big duh here...;-)
Question, how is it better than GO Launcher? What does it do that is better?
I wouldn't say it is better as it is all based on preference. For me TW is too basic and didn't let me customize my phone the way I wanted to. I loved calks gb based from. But haven't tried his ics. I have been enjoying the blue kuban ics rom. His customer service is elite.

Agat's newest tFE22v0.1.1 would be a great place to start. It is minimally themed and rock solid. What it lacks in bells and whistles it far makes up for in speed and trouble free functionality. I use a modified version of Calc's bare ROM script that cleans out a ton of stuff then I add a few inverted apps. Perfect for me!

Stock slightly modified by me. Once source is out those other roms mentioned in the op will be solid.

Which ROM do you use/recommend and why?

I rooted and flashed my SGS3 yesterday to Kyan(?) because it looked like the most robust build.. it's nice but the data just didn't work so i had to revert back to original for now..
So it got me thinking.. which ROM do you recommend and why? and... Any idea how to fix the data issue?
AOKP because its nearly perfect and I haven't had any issues with it.

Second vote for aokp. Nearly flawless as is and updates are coming frequently also. Very smooth and buttery.... combined with ktoonzes kernel you can't get much better IMHO....

Cm10 nightly. Gets better everyday and I find it a tad faster than aokp. That being said I miss the on screen navigation keys that are found in aokp

JB ROMs are not yet fully baked (Netflix doesn't work, screen flickering, etc.etc.), and other random annoyances depending on the particular ROM in question.
As a result, I've decided to stick with ICS ROM's for now and Ariel 2.0.4 seems to be about the cream of the crop from a combined feature/function perspective.
Just my $.02

That's good to know, but it doesn't change the fact that there are typically little quirks and wonky parts of JB ROMs that keep me from using one as a daily driver, hence my endorsing an ICS ROM below.
Netflix was just an example of what had been a common problem among early JB ROMs, and while it's cool that's been fixed, there are invariably other easter eggs that don't seem to exist in ICS custom ROMs, I guess is the point I was trying to make.
Of course, to each their own; what might be important to me might not be to the next person, but that's what makes the ability to flash any/all ROMs and then nandroid back if you don't like them, so cool.
-Ryan
I'm on KyanROM and has been good so far. Just put Ktoonsez kernel on coming from Faux so will be testing that combo out today
Paranoid android with ktoons kernel. Works quite well minus some flickering and it gets updated frequently.

I use Kyan ROM because it is rock solid stable, has good battery life, takes away all of the bloat and lets me add back stock apps via CWM if wanted. I am waiting to go to an AOKP 4.0.4/4.1.1 build such as Task and Ktoonz or Cyangenmod. However, they all have bugs and I have very little tolerance for technology that does not cooperate with my expectations. So until the bugs are worked out, Kyan ROM for me.
which rom is the fastest without overclocking? I found that quadrant scores have been the best on stock. I've tried it on CM9, CM10 and kyan, but they all produce low scores. GTA 3 gets laggy on CM10 too, gonna try it on stock and see how it performs.
Rooted stock. ( debloated )
Tried aokp and cm10 both fantastic roms but auto brightness was a bit flaky on both so I can back to stock.

excuse me for my noob question, but how do you debloat stock rom?
Go in with a root enable file explorer and remove all the stock and carrier added apps that you don't want/don't use. You can also find different flashable zips that fix and/or enable/disable certain "features", such as the continuous wifi connected notification, enable native tethering, etc. A lot, if not all, of the customized stock roms include these and others by default. I'm actually downloading Ariel right now to try it out as it seems to have a lot of this done already.
I vote aokp, rock solid stable, and extremely smooth.
You should really try a cm based jellybean ROM, if you haven't yet, you'll be amazed by how fast and smooth it is compared to stock.
Ariel is the best stock rom nothing compares to it, its bug free free has aroma installer, where you can choose what mods you want to flash in cwm and has more features than any other stock rom hands down the best.

[Q] What is a solid stable ROM for a light user?

My GF now has the S3, and she's very light in terms of tech savy. I flashed a CM10 nightly build for her to start her phone out, but it's been hanging and lagging a bit from time to time, and that more than anything else bothers her.
Should i just put her back on stock, or is there a great option that isn't so cutting edge but will be sure to be bug free and solid and smooth for her?
The issue is it's not in my hands so i can't play around with it a lot to test and see, she'll just complain if it doesn't work perfect lol.
I'd say Ariel or Kyan rom for normal use and you can throw on KT747 ICS touchwiz kernel as well. I wouldn't do any of the JB based roms atm if you want pure stability.

I like Slim ROM but it really comes down to personal preference. Take a couple hours and flash a couple different ones. Does she want TW or pure Android. There are just so many choices...it might be an interesting experience getting her to participate in the testing since it is her phone.
Try out Tasks AOKP, it's really nice. I just switched to black jelly last night and I'm liking it so far, battery hasn't been great my first day, but it should get better.

+1 for Task/Ktoonsez AOKP JB ROM - its flawless!
+1 for kyan. All the jellybean roms are sweet but always had issues with video recording (very low audio). For a lite user I would say stick to ICS.

If she likes CM10, I suggest flashing the "M" versions as those are the monthly stable builds (latest one was around 15th of October). Anyways AOKP is good, it was released a week or so ago and I find it very stable and battery life is better than CM10 (in my own experience). Anyways just do whatever she likes. Most people recommend Kyan so do whatever she or you want.
Stock 4.0.4 works near perfect for me. It is under rated. I have disabled bloatware and added some tweaks but honestly, it rocks fine. Ultra reliable. I am a guy who spent over 1.5years tweaking with my legendary HD2...using custom kernels and cm roms, and never 100% happy...yet the S3 out of the box...kicks butt.
BlackJelly if you want JB. kyanRom if you want ICS.
To the guy who said BlackJelly was poor for battery life: I just went over 5 hrs of screen time with it. It's amazing.
Triune II rom best super stable with all features

Thinking of just upgrading her to stock JB now that's it's available. I would love to flash a rom but since she will only complain about problems, not really notice advantages, I lean towards keeping her stock. Unless there's a hands down choice that will be STABLE

If she doesn't care about newest upgrades leave it as is(just upgrade to newest stock) she won't care and you won't get hassled when stuff doesn't work, just my opinion, been there done that with my wifes phone.

[Q] Which ROM for my girlfriend?

My girlfriend and I are in a long distance relationship, so I can't really help her when she has problems on her phone. I am currently with her and I've previously had AOKP and CyanogenMod on her phone. While they generally work perfectly fine, there may be issues that I can't easily diagnose from afar. What Touchwiz (non-AOSP) ROM would you guys recommend for long-term stability, optimal battery life, and features. Unlike me, she does enjoy Touchwiz....so using a Touchwiz ROM isn't a problem.
Suggestions?

My first suggestion would be to try several to see which one she likes. If the time isn't available, then I would suggest taking a look at Triune 2. Basically, a debloated stock rom with some custom tweaks. It's what both my wife and I run, though hers isn't as personalized as mine. And if it's important, google wallet works with it.
Try miui, its like android meets iphone and sweet themes. Its probably not the most stable choice though, despite how much it might appeal to the novice android user.
Aokp is very stable, I'm on slimbean right now and its been 100% stable so far. I haven't been on a tw ics ROM since the first few hours I got my gs3 back in july. Drews stock tw jellybean is pretty stable might want to give that a try too.
I've actually been quite partial to DrewGaren's ROM's.... currently Serenity 1.2 based on an AT&T JellyBean ROM for the Galaxy Note 2, and JellyBean747, based on the latest JellyBean leaks/official builds from other carriers.
As for custom ICS TouchWiz ROM's.... haven't really used one in a while since i'm hooked on JB... but i did quite like kyanROM.
I really want her to have JB as she currently has it and surely doesn't want to go back to ICS. I'll do a nandroid and have her try out the DrewGaren ROMs first and see if she likes those. Thanks!

Right now there's now perfectly stable stock touchwiz jb ROMs for our s3 yet as far as I'm aware, and may venture to say the aosp ROMs are more stable and have less issues. I may be wrong as I havent tried too many tw jb roms but have read quite a bit. Ariel 2.10 is a rock solid tw ics build and the upgrade to jb is minor enough I can't see why your girlfriend would mine it until a better tw jb ROM is out.

I kid I kid. Wannalite is a ICS stable TW rom. Either that or MIUI. But its still experiancing some growing pains and not quite 100 percent stable.

New to Samsung

Greetings fellow S2 users. I hope I'm not too late to the party and that this phone still receives much love. I come from the OG Evo 4g side of the forums and after 2 years on sprint, I decided to high tail it to something moderately priced, more current hardware wise, and a plan that is more affordable.
And now with the release of the new OFFICIAL JB update from good 'ol Samsung, will there be any TW kernels or only AOSP? On the Evo, Sense was terrible and slow as all hell, but after playing with TW for a while I've actually become quite fond of the layout compared to AOSP. I will eventually make the switch to AOSP, but for now am LOVING the features of TW. The Music Square is nice for mood based music, I like that the video player plays pirated movies without the need for codecs/apps, WIFI calling is great and works flawlessly, and free visual voicemail without the need for Google Voice. And lets not forget free Hotspots.
Sad to see that Facial unlocking is now gone with the new JB update, and there are no music controls on lockscreen for default music app, but those are minor flaws. Would like to see S-Voice but IDK if it's a GSIII thing or not so not too bent out of shape.
So without much further ado, I am here to ask did I make a mistake picking the SGSII, and what I should know about ROM and Kernel wise compared to the OG Evo 4G. In other words, I assume that instead of Sense, it's now boiled down to TW (touchwiz) and AOSP based roms? Furthermore, is SBC still a thing; As in trickle charging? And are there any other news/tricks I should know about?
I would try out the PAC man ROM to be honest a lil bit of everything besides touchwiz i was a flashaholic but as soon as i started using PAC man ROM i havnt been able to find another ROM that suits me i love it and all the customizing options

In order of rom purity:
1. Try touchwiz either stock or ptmr3's new builds.
2. Cm10.1 official by team chopsticks
3. Aokp official by whitehawkx
4. Pac
5. Else
PTMR3 is currently working on a custom 4.1.2 tw kernel from source. so in a day or 3 we will have a jb tw kernel:good:
and if you want to try a great aosp rom jelly bam is where its at but you wont find it on xda its on goo.im under devs - jelly bam - tmobile galaxy s2. i recommend it with cerux kernel. also you can use roms from the skyrocket also so check out that thread too.

I played with it for a small time, but was saddened by the fact I couldn't get WIFI calling on anything but TWIZ.It's the main reason I went to TMO because I get poor reception in my house. Although while on the rom, I noticed I had more bars than I did on default JB Twiz rom.
Back when I had my EVO I remember people saying AOSP uses different parameters to measure signals compared to stock roms, is this still true?
This phone is one of the best I've ever had, loving every feature of it, currently running Embryo rom 6.11 with cymbaline 3.0.74 kernal, amazing speeds benching in high 11's, its twiz based since I personally hate asop lol, all around beast of a phone, you did good...
