So I'm looking for a vanilla ics ROM. touch wiz must die!
Trim and minimal with 4g tether.
Everything works and it's stable.
I'll settle for gingerbread if I have to but I would prefer the latest and greatest.
you're probably wondering why I'm not doing my own homework and figuring this out on my own, well I should be. I would too if I wasnt working so much, and my work doesn't allow me to net surf. Lame excuse but hey I'm honest.
Can someone link me to the awesome or am I asking too much?
There are no stable ICS ROMs yet.
Any GB ROM you choose will work. And you can theme it to look exactly like ICS.
I used Blazer ROM with ACS' ICS theme. The ROM had the 4G Sprint Hotspot hack built in, and if you choose an alternate launcher you can get rid of TW - ADW EX with Kovdev's ICS theme (from the Market) works great.
Good luck.
In my experience right now the 2 best roms out are Phantom Hackers Blazer rom and StrongSteve's odexed blue. They are all great but those 2 seem to be the most stable and smoothest running on my phone. Also everything works with those 2. Miui Is nice and I am dying to try it but it still has some bugs and with my roms I need EVERYTHING to work even if I don't use a certain feature that often.
well thank you both. before i posted this thread i used calkins ics rom which eats up batter and doesnt seem to work all that well. and ill try blazer rom as soon as i figure out how to get my cwm recovery back.
weird when i have flashed roms on htc phone the recovery is usually left alone and flashed separately.
oh well.
You're better off with the stability of an official release from that has been tweaked by a dev. Leaks are flaky and usually never without something not working. I like blazer 4 with a different theme.
What themes are compatible with blazer 4.0?

Blazer uses an ICS theme.
Seems like any old honkee can make a ROM, nowadays.. I mean, they work their asses off, and that's great, but I'm looking for a daily driver.
I hate touchwiz, entirely. Does anyone know of and recommend an ALL ICS ROM that's worth flashing? I would try Alpha 4 CM9, but the sound of trying an alpha ROM doesn't appeal to me..

The dev's here have put a lot of hard work into the roms that we have. Cm9 and aokp are good enough to be daily drivers in my opinion. It doesn't even sound like you attempted to try them.

You might try Blu Kuban by Rujelus. It comes with Apex Launcher baked in but offers other launcher options (including Touchwiz for those so inclined) in the ROM Updater.
I've been using it as a daily driver since he put it out at the end of April.
Before this I used Venum's Anakonda and had mad love for it as well.

lol cm9 is a aosp rom.. and its in alpha only because we dont have source yet so they cant implement all cm features but everything just about works.. currently im on calks ics rom.. you can disable twiz launcher and use stock. im using sgs3 launcher ux.. either way an aosp rom is as close as youll get to pure ics since it removes touchwiz components

I have tried a few, and they all seem to have one bug that throws me. Like, for instance, the no mount bug. Have to use root directory to set up your external sd, and most of the time, it didn't work.. :banghead:

The only thing bad about CM9 is that you can't update profile/prl. Other than that it is a very solid, bug-free ROM.
Well with any luck we might see one of these for our version.

Do you mean pure ics or "all ics"? Because ics is what most of the roms are built from now for our phone. You do have the option to go with calkulin's fe22 rooted and tweaked version. From what I here, its very stable. And its practically stock. And ics! You also have some venum build choices among others. There is definitely something that suits your needs. You may need to do some legwork to find the right one for you.

Which ROM? If you mean Blu Kuban then you obviously haven't tried it. You can have as stock an experience as you want or as detailed as you prefer.
Anakonda was also a very clean ROM, as is Venum Ice.
Calkulin's ROMs are always dependable and Agat has some very nice stuff as well.
Fact of the matter is, you have a smorgasbord of ROMs to choose from and there is something out there for every taste.

I run Alpha 4 as a daily driver. I am actually on the 5/28 build which has a couple new additions over the release of A4 but no real complaints for me at the moment. A ton has happened since Alpha 4. For nearly anyone it should be as good as the ics leaks. I think the main complaint with a few people at this point is connectivity loss and most of those are fixed apparently using the EL29 modem to fix it. Ive had it happen maybe once just toggled in and out of airplane mode to fix it.

Where can I find that?
If you're looking for something clean, MIUI is clearly the best option. It's my daily driver.
CM9 A4 is perfectly ready for daily-driver status as long as you disable LED notifications (huge battery hog with alpha 3, i've kept the same behavior w/ alpha 4 so no idea if it's fixed).
I've consistently gotten 4+ hours of screen on time. Easily goes all day, never had GPS issues, force closes or restarts. Pretty perfect.
Wipe everything.
[and MIUI, but it's about as un-stock ICS as a rom can get looks wise. It's my preferred rom fwiw.]

Legwork is right, my friend! when I say pure ics, I mean stock ics everything. No Sammy dialer, ics stock lockscreen (I kinda like the one that came with calkulins..), pretty much just as close to stock ics as you can get. Wouldn't mind some CPU hacks to help balance the battery and whatnot.

I love ROMs like AOKP but pure android lacks many of the extras that Samsung packs into the TW ROM. The biggest thing for me is the camera on the AOSP ROMs. I use my camera and lot and the basic camera isn't enough for me. But that's about it. I love the updates and clean feel.

I personally love the "pure Google" look and feel. Very simplistic and fast. Not to say the TW ROMs aren't fast as well on this phone, but I like the AOSP feel a little more, even if I do have to occasionally restore my TW ROM to use some of the TW features (PRL updates, etc.)
Aosp just for reliability and its getting allot faster then two variants

AOSP means Android Open Source Project.
In other words AOSP is the default build that is pure and unchanged from what Google puts out.

I like the support and features of aosp based roms but at the same time i have to go to tw which is native to the phone because I don't have to worry about bugs or compatibility issues. Also the camera takes much better pictures on touchwiz vs aokp

I think the only way to get the true google experience is to get a nexus since the proprietary drivers are already there and not much modification is needed.
TW throws the heat man I flashed codename last night played around a bit and went straight back to TW the features on it are just so more refined on this device even without root. This is the second time (1st being the Photon) I'd just prefer not to add custom roms or anything really since everything is already so smooth and already there. Maybe when CM10 goes to official builds I'll go back but by then I'll already have the Note 2 and Android 4.2 or 5.0 whatever will be out and possibly all CM10 work will stop.
Once CM10 is finalized I could see that being my daily driver. Touchwiz is cool but there something beautiful about the simplistic look and feel of AOSP builds

I have been a big CM fan since I first got it on my HTC Sensation. I have to say now that I have the SIII I probably won't put CM on here. This phone is amazing just as it is, mostly. Had to root it obviously but I'm running stock rooted and I can't see myself ever changing that. Threw on derkernels alpha kernels to get some extra cpu speed. Not that it really needs it though. I absolutely love the camera. AOSP really doesnt have anything on this ROM. Which is something I never thought I'd say. On any phone.... Ever.

Sammie did a great job with TW on this bad boy. I used to flash CM for the lock screen features, notification toggles, speed, and battery life improvements. TW has all that now. Actually, its awesome but kinda sucks cuz it takes some of the excitement away from flashing new roms. Still, once JB is stable, I'll probably use AOSP more frequently.
I used the CM9 Rom on my Epic and generally enjoyed it. With the SG3, what seems to be the Rom of choice for most to offer and stability?

what does CM10 offer that the stock rom does not?
Fo sho its the Rom to have and use is the Chemistry Rom because I have a GS3 fleshed to boost and all my main functions I need all work with this ROM. My mms and my voice mail. And with Ktweaks kernel I am getting some serious battery time on this ROM so its over all the perfect ROM right now to have. Most of the roms in the Dev section are rock solid (minus a few bugs which are normal in almost everything) the only way to figure out which you are going to like is to read the OP of a few that sound interesting, flash and take it for a drive (give a day or two typically) unless you can't stand it. MOAR, TPR, and FAT ASS (Cartman Edition of TPR) are all great TW based roms, offer all the fun of normal TW.. Incredible themeing options via Morphology.
Free GS3 is another great rom (from what i hear) as well. I haven't personally ran this one either, but does work with Morphology for themeing options.
Just scan the dev section. You'll find a good fit.

So I switched to android 4.2.2 a while ago, on cyanogenmod nightly. But I saw mc3 was leaked, and want to try it.
Problem is it's 4.1.2, and I heard idle battery drain was improved in 4.2.2,but i can't recall my battery before this, since I recently got an extended battery.
Your opinion on whether or not I should chang to leaked "stock" MC3, or just stay.

LiquidSmooth>TouchWiz
I would suggest sticking with Android 4.2.2 since TouchWiz MC3 only has a few extra features which to me are mainly gimmicks while AOSP 4.2.2 is much better with a lot less loaded crap on your phone and it's easier to modify in my opinion.
I personally don't use Nightly ROMs since they tend to be unstable which is not worth it. I am currently using LiquidSmooth version 2.2. The great thing about LiquidSmooth is that it's based on Cyanogenmod+AOKP+SlimRoms+Extra=LiquidSmooth. Also with less bloat that means that there is less extra stuff sucking on your battery in an AOSP ROM. A very smooth, stable and fast ROM with no bloat unlike stock TouchWiz.
Or if you want to stick with TouchWiz I would recommend a custom ROM such as strongsteve's Odexed Blue ROM, very nice ROM and much more professional and nicer looking compared to other modified TouchWiz ROMs in my opinion.

Yeah, I suppose you can remove the bloat manually but I find that a bit annoying. But it depends on what you like and want. Personally, my phone would pick up like 5/10 calls on TouchWiz while on AOSP ROMs it picks up all calls I make. I don't know why that is but hey it works.
I am running sons of android 4 . There is no battery drain issues on this rom. I can go all day with lots of use and still average well above 50 percent battery life .

+1. ALTHOUGH, you also lose all of the Samsung features though, but I rarely used them (motion, smart stay, etc.) and they are mainly gimmicks to me. Multi-view could come in handy I suppose but I would just rather use the task manager, multi-view I would use all the time if I had the Note, not on the GS3 though.
If you want an awesome 4.2.2 ROM I HIGHLY recommend DeviantXone. It just got updated today with loads of new stuff. Great ROM and great devs.
If you still want a touchwiz launcher and android 4.2.2 AND paranoid android settings try out JellyBam, I ran that ROM for like a month

The only TW feature that I really miss is the stock video player. I loved floating that guy around and found it really easy to use. I tried the other floating players on the Play Store, but didn't really like them all that much. I currently use MXPlayer and allow the audio to play in the background. I deal with it, but once in a blue moon I'll restore my stock rom just to experience the glory of the floating video player.

If you still want a touchwiz launcher and android 4.2.2 AND paranoid android settings try out JellyBam, I ran that ROM for like a month

I'm thinking about switching because I miss motions, parts of Svoice, and multi window was added in the leak.

I suggest that if you're interested in a ROM, go ahead and try it out. Different people like different things, so it's up to you to find out what works for you. With Titanium Backup and nandroid backups, it's easy to switch to different ROMs without losing critical data.
Personally, I ROM jump a lot. If I see something that looks interesting, whether it's 4.1, 4.2, TouchWiz, or AOSP, I'll check it out and run it for a few days. If I don't like it, I'll either nandroid back or flash another ROM I found interesting. That's what I love about Android.
My bad, I'm working on a ROM as well! So when I get done you should give my ROM a try...I'm trying to make it fully stable

IMHO, if I wanted an AOSP ROM I would have gotten a Google Phone. Buying a brand name phone will always come with brand-specific bloat.

Except, you can remove ALL the bloat....
Or flash AOSP

Yea, but the nexus 4 isn't on sprint (yet?) And the galaxy nexus is pretty old specs wise. If one person wanted the latest and greatest, and they were on sprint, it would most likely have to be a brand phone...
