USB OTG - post your results! - General Accessories

Hey,
I've been looking for a cheap handset that can be relied on to do USB OTG for a project I'm doing. So far I've found that this is a really badly documented feature! I've also got a Nexus4 that is about to go back to google
Could anyone who has tried USB OTG please post their handset type and results (both positive and negative).
Also, if you have a recommendation for and handset that works with USB OTG, please let me know. I'm not really interested in the other features!
Cheers,
Morat

Galaxy S2
Samsung Galaxy S2 works great!
I've used external storage and a USB barcode scanner. No problems.

Huawei Ascend G300
No USB OTG at all on standard ROM.

HTC One, One X, and One X+ all support USB OTG on stock software

Mouse and keyboard worked fine with Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 and it's cheap now

usb disk worked fine on galaxy tab 10.1

USB OTG works fine with Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx.
Sent from my DROID RAZR Maxx using XDA Premium

Works fine with S4, stock rooted.
Even managed to get my 1tb HDD spinning, not to mention SSDs.
Card readers also work fine.

I use my kindle fire it works great if its rooted
Sent from my Dillan Android tablet using xda app-developers app

Nexus 7 works great. I had to download the stick mount app. Some times I have to reboot the device after I insert it into my Nexus if it was on when I put it in. Works great though!

Huawei Y300 + SlimKat ROM 9.0 with chil360's kernel v0.53 + Y-USB cable + USB flash mem. +5V power supply (USB port) = OTG Host mode is working!!!
+ I execute commands in Terminal emulator: "su" and "echo host > /d/otg/mode"
+ I had installed "USB Host Check" app and got that "handheld_core_hardware.xml" is OK, and "android.hardware.usb.host.xml" is not readable.
+ I change permitions of android.hardware.usb.host.xml from r------- to r--r--r--
Restarting phone, got me nothing special. "USB Host check" got 2 OK, OTG support is manualy started, OTG State is: a_host, but still no detected USB mem.
I had try even "StickMount v0.26" app but got no result.
Finally, after installing "USB OTG Helper" and clicking on "Mount drive", application mounted no drive, BUT drive is VISIBLE and FULLY working on path /storage/UsbOtgDrives/drive_1 !!!
To dismount USB, go to "USB OTG Helper" and clicking on "Unmount drive" and go to Terminal emulator and execute: "su" and "echo peripheral > /d/otg/mode"

Will my tablet recognise my Sony Handycam? Can i upload videos to youtube from it?

Hey guys
So basically I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC19E camcorder, and was wondering if i plugged it into my galaxy tab using the samsung usb adapter thing, will it recognise it and allow me to take and transfer files to and from the tab?
As i want to upload some videos to youtube but it wont work on my computer?
So im basically asking if anybody has got mass storage access to devices they have plugged into the tab 10.1
Thanks in advance for any help
Adam
I have a Sony dcr-sr100. It mounts to my galaxy tab 10.1 on stock firmware.
I have found that " high" powered USB devices are rejected by this tab, which is annoying. But i have found that how you connect the devices matter also.
E.g. if the adaptor is plugged in then i use my USB drive to the adapter is does not work.
If my USB drive is plugged into the adapter then into the tab it usually works, if not pull out and try again right away.
If you can get a powered USB hub, this will help for connecting more devices. Generic keyboard & mice work fine ( if not " high" powered)
USB mass storage otg app in the market will help to mount more drives at once and enable access to NTFS formatted drives which are not supported on the stock firmware.

So would u recommend getting a Samsung USB adapter thingy and them trying from their?

This is the one I got.

I don't see much point paying more than this.
Also the " card reader" versions are designed to only mount one card at a time since that is how the stock device handles otg. But if you already have USB card reader your happy with, it can be used with USB mass storage OTG app from the market. ( Which also adds NTFS support).

Sprite cheers. I may just get a 3 pound one off Amazon, then see if it works

I got the corded version, as I thought it was more risky using the "Block" style one that might break the connector 30pin if it was knocked too hard.
There is rick of the corded version breaking on the cable, but it is a cheap replacement fix.

USB OTG issues

I have a tmobile sgs3 with a stock rom (it was rooted, but latest update seems to have killed that), and after seeing the androidNZ connectivity demo I decided to play around with the usb otg. I am having some problems however. I have tried with 2 external hdds and a thumb drive and all three light up, but do nothing to the phone. I get no pop ups, and when I use astro to check the external usb drives, they all show up empty.
What am I missing?
Thank you!
I do not have that issue, but did you check USB debugging mode in Developer options?
I haven't tried to connect to an external HD, but USB Flash card works fine, as well as USB keyboard & mouse.
I've bought a $2 USB adapter for my phone and I have been able to mount a pendrive or a HD (when it is plugged to an external power source).
But when I try to connect a Mouse, Keyboard, Gamepad, etc., nothing happens. Not even an error message.
I'm using an official Android 4.03 rooted ROM (Claro Argentina).
Does anyone know what could be happening? The problem is my ROM (and it's drivers)? Is my USB otg adapter that is not compatible with mouse and keyboard?
I attach a screenshot of my system

[Help] OTG cable problem

Hello, i have bought a OTG adaptor but when i connect a USB pen to my Sony Xperia S it doesn't do anything.
I have also tested:
- USB pen FAT32
- USB pen NTFS
I know that this adaptor is working because the store owner tested it on a tablet and it worked.
Stange thing is that i tried to connect to a zte blade, Galaxy Gios and nexus 7 and it didn't work as well....
However when i connect it to the computer the adaptor works...
Stock .55
No root
Can someone advise me?
Thanks
Root your phone and download USB OTG Helper from the Play Store.

I have many FAT32 USB flash drives that work fine with my XPERIA S no problems.
I have not confirmed this myself, but it is possible the amps provided by the Sony XPERIA S(LT26i) could be as low as 100mA.[citation needed]
Can't find any documented specs for XPERIA S and USB power supplied and/or USB flash drive which also has a known documented amp draw for reference.
I'd really quite like to know what amps the XPERIA S USB port provides.
I have a USB thumb drive that doesn't work on my XPERIA S namely the HP v165w 8GB (FAT32 formatted)
It just comes up with a big red warning triangle saying, "USB Power Consumption error"
However the USB thumb drive HP c330w 8GB does work (NTFS formatted)
Many other SanDIsk FAT32 formatted USB thumb drives also work fine. Namely the SanDisk USB 2.0 Cruzer Facet 32GB
I have downloaded Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ which allows me to successfully mount NTFS formatted flash drives on my root'd XPERIA S.
My 'Desktop' FV-1 Android box with three USB ports/HDMI etc, mounts anything and everything, including the HP v165w 8GB USB thumb drive. So it just means no two Android devices are equal in design and power.
it should work anyway? I've seen a few shots and youtube movies where the USB on-the-go was working on an XS!

Hope someone will Chinese!!!
Connecting U disk need to install a USB storage management software (the software requires root permissions and busybox). Insert OTG and USB flash drive's lights. Then click connect.
The USB file so that you can in SDcard \ usbStorage see.
You can also connect a hub so you can connect a mouse and keyboard like if you want to connect to a large power equipment, so that you need a powered hub. Strong practical ability, but also can directly plug in the power in OTG online peel.
this is what google translates for me! pretty weird to read like this. but maybe we can figure it out?!

In my honest option, I agree with SNYXPR, there should be no requirement for additional software on a standard build XPERIA S(LT26i) when using "supported" FAT32 formatted USB storage.
If the FAT32 formatted USB flash drive you have attached to the XPERIA S meets the power requirements you should be fine.
No software I know of is going to boost the power supplied by the MicroUSB port and at best, any application for USB storage is only able to support additional drive formats like NTFS etc.
I've had/have USB flash drives, Logitech Unifying Mouse/Keyboard attached without problems.
I've got a Galaxy Note Connection kit Model: DR03-S2 and that works fine and I'm able to read/write SD cards, MicroSD cards and USB flash drives using it without problems(one attached device in use at any one time).
If you go to the next step and use a powered USB hub, then a wider array of devices can be used with the XPERIA S as the USB hub is providing the power to connect the device. This includes USB printers and FAT32 formatted USB 80GB plus HDD (both IDE and SATA) etc. Also all those FAT32 formatted storage devices that said the XPERIA S did not meet the power requirement work too.
Remember the XPERIA S only support FAT32 formatted storage by default(natively).
As part of my desktop setup I have the following connection.
Sony DK10 dock plugged into a Aten USB switch which is connected to a powered USB Targus 7 port Hub.
This gives me access to USB mouse/keyboard, USB flash drives or USB HDD of any size, printer, SD card reader on my DELL U2410 monitor and etc.
Then it's just a button press to (USB)switch back to my Notebook, Desktop PC and any other device connected as part of my desktop environment.
Thank you for the replies, i think root is not required since i have seen a vídeo made by XperiaBlog that just connects a USB pen drive to Xperia S and it just works. I have tried a Kignston 8 GB and it doesn't connect, not event to nexus 7 ...

[Q] Logitech Unifying Receiver not working on Nexus 7 (2013)/OTG Cable Question

I'm trying to connect the unifying receiver to my Nexus 7 (2013) with an OTG cable, but it doesn't work.
USB diagnostics app by Chainfire says the kernel detects it, but the Android API doesn't (not sure what that is). All other USB devices I have tried seem to be working.
I think I read of other people having the same problem. I was wondering if this was a problem with the 2013 Nexus 7 in general. If so, is there a fix? or will there be one?
Also, I was playing with my tablet and OTG cable; I was wondering if anyone else has USB devices "sleeping" when the tablet is put to sleep.
I noticed when I plug the cable in the tablet while it is awake, and then plug in a USB device, the USB device will work fine until I put the tablet to sleep. After I put the tablet to sleep, the USB device would power off, and after waking the tablet back up, the device would remain off and unresponsive.
The workaround I found was to plug in the cable while the tablet was asleep, and then waking up the tablet before plugging in USB device. I would then be able to put the tablet to sleep with the USB device remaining powered (while it's asleep and) when it's awakened.
Sorry if this was confusing.
Thanks!
I've got a working OTG fix that does not require root after much messing about!
Go to settings and disable security lock screen then select English US as the language.
Insert OTG cable and start Nexus Media Importer.
Reboot.
Nexus Media Importer should now pop up as usual and OTG should now be working.
Change language back but do not reboot as you will have to repeat these steps.
Same problem..
I have tried nexus media importer or custom kernel, ETC.. however, the problem is occurred again.
Everytime, kernel has error like..
Code:
logitech-djreceiver 0003:046D:C52B.0018 : claimed by neither input, hiddev nor hidraw
logitech-djreceiver 0003:046D:C52B.0018 : logi_dj_probe:hid_hw_start returned error
Is there anyone uses unifying on Nexus 7 2013? :crying:
Same issue with the receiver
My Unifying receiver works on my SGS 3, but it doesn't seem to work with my nexus 7 :'(

Any News in this area? I Bought my Nexus 7 to use it during class (as a studytool ofc) . But without having my external keyboard it isn't of much use
I've been having trouble getting my Logitech K750 keyboard to work on the nexus 7 (stock ROM, only rooted). Does anyone know if the Logitech Unifying Receiver is supported on this product? It works perfectly fine on my Galaxy Note N7000 running CM10.2
I can get other USB devices to work on the Nexus using the same OTG cable, for example Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse, Xbox 360 controller and USB flash drives.
Same problem
I have the same issue with a stock/non-rooted Nexus 7 (2013) and my Logitech unifying receiver. Sadly all I can really say is what did and didn't work.
Does work:
OTG adapter from monoprice.com
Trendnet Powered USB 2.0 Hub (TU2-700)
Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000
Every USB flash drive I've tried has worked via the 'Nexus Media Importer' app (FAT/FAT32 devices). Even multiple plugged-in flash drives connected simultaneously via the USB hub works just fine.
Custom built USB 2.0 External Hard Drive (using a Nexstar enclosure and Western Digital 320GB hard drive; powered off USB hub)
Apple iPhone 4s (iOS 7) - The tablet called the phone a MTP device and viewed the media (pics) through the built-in Gallery app importer
Does NOT work:
Logitech unifying receivers - Specifically, I tried with the K360, K400 and K750 keyboards and a M510 mouse
USB 2.0 10/100 Ethernet Adapter from monoprice.com (no apparent model # but it's their PID#: 9468)
USB 2.0 Logitech C910 Webcam
USB Logitech Headset G330 ...I was just curious
So far compatibility seems arbitrary. I would have thought the Nexus 7 (2013) would have better compatibility with Logitech, a maker of Google TV's, versus Microsoft or even Apple but that has not been the case. If this is a bug, it's a big one considering the popularity of Logitech devices. Sadly, I personally don't even have a keyboard that will work.
Any more details about this problem? Surely this must be a driver issue, since I don't see any other reason why the unifying receiver would refuse to work on the new Nexus 7. As stated above by others, it works perfectly fine on other devices, including the stock rom running TF101 transformer tablet.
I'm running CM nightlies on my Nexus 7 and was really surprised to see that it doesn't work with my unifying kb & mouse
---------- Post added at 01:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:14 PM ----------
Just tested with a different USB tester app - the receiver is obviously recognised. The OS can see it, and gets the device/vendor ID, and the device name... but no mouse cursor
http://i.imgur.com/moYVDet.png
http://i.imgur.com/OjFGzaw.png
Tested it with an older Logitech mouse that I have (doesn't use Unifying receiver), and that worked just fine..
http://i.imgur.com/aHdk6Qv.png
http://i.imgur.com/Z8qhoFr.png
But I need the new unifying one to work, mostly for the keyboard.
This issue is discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233849
I'm also having trouble with this. My K400, which would be awesome for tablets, isn't able to work, for it uses a Logitech unifying receiver. It seems it's a simple fix within the kernel. I've tried flashing many different kernels for this device, yet none have added support for it. The device works well on my Galaxy S4, if that means anything.
We'll need to get ahold of one of the developers and hope they're willing to add in the necessary stuff to their kernel if we want to fix this.
Could it be that a current Nexus 7 dev has to integrate some of the patches listed in some of the roms posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233849 ?

The Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400r works with its unifying receiver and OTG cable plugged into the original Nexus 7:
Android version 4.3
Build number JWR66Y
Kernel version 3.1.10-g1e8b3d8
But the above set up does not work with the 2013 version of the Nexus 7:
Android version 4.3
Build number JSS15R
Kernel version 3.4.0-g9e52a21
Bump
Solution Anyone?
Can't believe that none of the N7 developers are using a logitech device! !
I got a K400. Works fine with my nexus 5. Not with the nexus 7 2013
need an updated or custom kernel
It looks like we'll need an updated kernel, which has some extra CONFIG switches activated, per these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233849#2
Has anyone had success with a custom kernel or rom that includes the kernel drivers for the Logitech unifying receiver?
It would be nice to have a minimally changed kernel that included support just for these new drivers:
http://androidforums.com/nexus-7-gen2-2013-all-things-root/770430-otg-cables-usb-logitech-k400r-wireless-keyboard-track-pad-area.html#post6153020
Updates?
Hey all
Was just trying out the Unifying Receiver today and was surprised and disappointed that it didn't work at all.
Has anyone managed to get it working since the last post?
P
no
After my last post, I contacted Google support. They said that they could not help, and Logitech would have to fix it. I tried to talk technical about kernel config switches, and I begged to talk to someone who understood what I was saying, but I basically was told they did not have resources to troubleshoot every possible accessory.
I contacted Logitech, and they said that Google was right. They claimed responsibility and stated they did not support Nexus 7 (2013). It would not work.
Bottom line: This accessory will only ever work in a custom ROM, if it works then.
If anyone has any luck with this accessory on a custom ROM or in any other setup, please let us know.
Earlier posts say it is recognized by the OS, but not Android API.
Then, all it needs should be the files to tell Android it is a mouse and keyboard, right? Seems like the only issueis our device didn't have it in its device list.
What file to mod, what line(s) to mod?
Has anyone found a fix for this? I just bought a Google Nexus 7 2013 - 32GB and am trying to use the unifying receiver with an OTG cable (Logitech devices are the K800 keyboard and Experience MX mouse). The unifying receiver works fine on my galaxy S5 but no luck on my nexus 7. I am currently unrooted running stock lollipop 5.0.2. I am prepared to unlock bootloader, root, and install custom kernel if necessary.
Any info to get the Logitech unifying receiver working on my Nexus 7 would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] OTG not working with Nexus

Hi all.
Had this unit for about two weeks. I've read various blogs / posts regarding OTG and I bought two cables from Monoprice. When I tried to connect either the PS3 controller or USB flash drive, the device doesn't recognize it.
I downloaded USB Host Controller and it has a message "S3C USB Host driver NOT found". A lot of sites show connecting a PS3 controller is fairly easy but I can't get this to work.
I'm on 4.3, not rooted. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. Do I have to root the device to get this to work?
Note no issues with USB charging. When I plug in to a laptop it does show up as a "media device". When I plug in the OTG cable I have no notification message.
I also have a S4, and when I plug in the same OTG cable, I can see a message 'USB connector connected" on notification. But I can't see the same message when i plug in my Nexus 7 2nd Gen.
Is this a common problem? Thanks in advance.
I am use star print and connect to a HP fax combo works fine. Need check USB debug in Dev option s. Noon rooted . also use otg explorer to play movie s I f a San disk 6Gb USB thumb. Both apps are $2.99 but. The lite version work great for testing
