I can sync contacts from gmail to my phone but I cannot sync contacts from my phone to gmal?
I have tried deleting an re adding account no luck
Any ideas?
Check your Gmail settings on your google account using a full browser on PC.
The contacts toggle in your personal settings may be turned off.
Google has changed many things as of late, and settings will change without our knowledge....g
Where is this contact toggle you speak of ? I cannot seem to find it
On gmail my contacts have a check in my contacts box
But they sync from gmail to my note 2 but what is on my note 2 will not sync to gmail
this is frustrating lol
Is your " auto sync app data" box checked ?
Open your phone dialer application, and go into your settings within the app. It's under "accounts". And verify the box check. Its under your email address.
The auto sync interval is controlled by the general settings of the device I believe.....g
Edit: The auto sync controls all information being synced to your contacts and of course the opposite holds true....g

I want to try using the Mail app instead of the GMail one, but is it actually possible to disable the GMail app without losing all the other functionality you get from logging into your Google account? - there seems to be a unified log in used by GMaps as well, for example. And when I try to remove the account in settings, it says I have to do a factory reset, this seems bonkers to me.
I couldn't manage to get my Google Mail account to sign into the Mail app...

Turn off sync for Gmail under Settings->Accounts & sync.
You might also want to switch of notifications in the Gmail app too.

Dave
Will the phone sync google mail contacts via imap on the mail app or do I need to stick to the gmail app for that?

I think you must have a different version from mine. I have
Settings - Accounts& Sync
Background Data (tickbox)
AutoSync (tickbox)
Manage Accounts
Google
Stocks
Weather
If I tick Google I get a new screen:
Sync calendar
Sync contacts
Sync Google Mail
Sync Picassa Web Albums
(These all just trigger a sync)
At the bottom there are 2 buttons, Sync Now and Remove Account.
If I try remove account a box pops up warning that it will delete all the data, I say OK, then another box that says it can't do it, I have to factory reset because it is required by some applications.
I have been using the Google Mail app since I've had my phone, but today came across a problem - I could not copy & paste a tracking # from an email. I then quickly set up my gmail in the Mail app, & was able to perform this action very easily.
So my question is: has anyone used both apps extensively, & could they give me a quick "pro's & cons"?

Here you go someone has already done that:

The only thing that really annoys me is the fact that your Mail widget does not update the list of emails unless you open the Mail application.
Even if you already updated the email list in your GMail appl.
For example: I receive an email. I get a notification in the notification bar. I open it and it takes me to the Gmail appl (by default). I check my emails, read them, exit the application.
However, my HTCMail Widget (sitting on the desktop) does not show any updates. I have to open the HTCMail manually, sync (again!) and only then can I see the updated list.
Aaaargh!
I've been tempted to move to using the mail application over the gmail one as well.
I think ill setup the mail application with my other gmail account then compare the 2
I much prefer the gmail app. I think its quicker and easier to reply, and it syncs straight away unlike the mail app.
Only downside is the lack of widget, but with the number of apps I have on my homescreens, this isn't an issue.
I always feel it's worth mentioning k9mail at this point, if only because it supports IMAP IDLE.
hi guys,
i'm having an issue with my Desire.
despite having all 'auto sync' options unchecked, everytime i connect to a WIFi network my google contacts start to sync. i don't want this to happen.
when i go Accounts & Sync - and click 'google' under 'manage accounts', all i have is a list of three items within my google account :
1. sync contacts
2. sync gmail
3. synch calendar
and at the bottom of the screen i have two buttons:
1. sync now
2. remove account
i have no checkboxes next to any options. is there someplace else where there would be an Auto Sync setup?
i'm running android 2.2.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
ronan
ps. may it be the case that google automatically does it automatically initially, on a new phone? it only syncs after i've cleared my contacts and cache.
hello all
got a problem with my unrooted, unbranded desire on uk voda pay monthly sim.
basically everytime i go to sync my google contacts i get the message "sync is currently experiencing problem it will be back shortly" now what makes this strange is that my wife and son both have desires same as myself and theirs sync fine. mine used to sync so am not too sure whats wrong or what to do
From your phone, log into your Gmail account where the contacts are stored. Once logged in go to the main menu on the device and select the contacts icon. Under contacts select the menu/options icon to bring up a list of available options. Under this list you will see an option for accounts. Select accounts, this will bring up all of the active e-mail accounts set up on the phone. Under the list of e-mail accounts select the Gmail account. Once the account is selected turn on the sync contacts option.
Now that the account is synced with the phone all of the contacts will be transferred to the device.
In my experience the above advice doesn't work as the sync in the phone is already set up and enabled and the only solution is to delete ALL contacts from the phone (including face book contacts) and start a fresh sync.
I just got my Galaxy S3. As usual, when I set up my main google account it defaulted to syncing my gmail contacts and calendar. I sync my contacts and calendar to an exchange server and don't want them synced to my google account.
On other devices I could go into the account settings, uncheck contacts and calendar, then go into the app manager and delete the data from contacts storage and calendar storage and they would all be gone.
When I did this on my S3, the contacts app still shows all my Google contacts. I can't figure out how to remove them.
Can anyone explain?
Thanks!

This should have taken care of the issue. Can you make sure that you go to settings > accounts > your google account and uncheck contacts and calendar sync FIRST and than go to settings > app > contacts and clear data. (Same for calendar)
Also, if you have Google+ (or facebook) installed, it could be syncing contacts too. Make sure you uncheck and clear all contacts.
Strange. No matter what I did those contacts would not disappear. Then I rebooted the phone and they were gone. Seems to be working fine now...
Thanks.
As per title, when I first setup my P6P, and setup all my email addresses, all the email accounts calendars were shown in Google calendar. Literally overnight they disappeared and I can't sync or see any other calendar events from my non Google accounts. Done the usual cache, clear, disable and uninstall etc all to no avail. Even checked all Hotmail and Yahoo standalone accounts.
Any ideas?
Yeah, my Outlook/Microsoft account also not showing in the calendar which is shame. I would like to receive similar message on always-on display for Teams meetings as I have got from Google Meet via Google Calendar.
My work email is through Outlook and it didn't show either. What I had to do was this...add a new Exchange account and sync the calendar. Let it sync and go refresh the calendar. It should show up shortly after all this.
I assume you mean add the account to 'Gmail'? It won't allow my Hotmail account to be entered in 'Exchange'.
When I add it in Gmail, I notice the option to sync only contacts and mail is there. No option to sync calendar is seen anywhere. I think this is where the problem lies.
No not in Gmail. In the phones Settings > Passwords & accounts > scroll down and select "+ Add account" > select "Exchange".
