Problem with battery or not? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I did something stupid but it was an emergency so I had to, I didn't fully charge my note 2 twice. I charged it to 65% and plugged of the charger for that emergency and waited for it to go to 5% then charged it but another emergency that had me to plug it off again when It reached 60% 65% again and waited for it to drain and then charged to 100%
Now I feel I got a shorter battery life did I ruin something or mess up something with what I did?

You shouldn't worry, it had not damaged your battery! The best way to preserve your battery is to stay between 15% - 80%

No you've not spoiled your battery just your mindset.
Jut drain your battery completely and make a full charge at once without break

You've ruined your Note 2 completely. It will forever have a short battery life. You can go ahead and send your Note to me and I will see what I can do.

Dude, you can't harm Li Ion batteries with incomplete charges. They built to do that.

MAJOR battery issues

Well....I've just ordered a new battery for my phone....
I take my phone off charge first thing in the morning, check my email, check in here and (occasionally) check fb....in all no more than 10 or 15 minutes online....might make a short call or 2...
By this time battery is getting close to 85% remaining power where the phone shuts off.....every time. Plug the phone into charge again, and power on, and remaining power is at 40% or less. Battery is also showing *some* signs of physical deformation....minor swelling.....
I'm assuming that this all points to a faulty battery and not some ROM bug.....and I also assume that it's not the ROM that's causing it?

Yeah that's the battery. It couldn't be the ROM or else we'd all be replacing batteries. lol
A new battery also has to be calibrated. The store guy should tell you how to. If not, let it drain with normal use, then full charge. Take it off the charger as soon as it gets to 100%. Do this for 3-4 charging cycles, and the battery should be good to go.
Maybe you should also wipe battery stats from CWM once it charges to 100% the first time. That should clear up your batterystats and let you start fresh.
Good luck!

Just so you know you're not alone, this is happening to me now for the second time... I already replaced my stock battery and that replacement is beginning to swell now with terrible drain.

Yaay.....I have my phone back....the battery arrived this morning....I charged it up and so far have seen no evidence of catastrophic battery drain. The new battery is a 1700mA unit....it's not Samsung branded and only cost £5 from Amazon.....so I'm not expecting miracles....I'll just have to see how it fares over time....who knows?......
CM 9....I don't HAVE to, I just......can
This also happened to me with CM9 beta 2 firmware

How long does it take for a full charge? [Culprit: Bad USB cable]

Well I need to know from you guys, it's not that I don't know, but need to reconfirm. I think mine is taking much lower now than it was. A full charge, say from 5% to 100%, with Stock charger?
Thanks in adv.

roughly 1 percent for 1 minute. should be charged in a couple of hours

Charging from 0 to 90% happens in no more that 2 hours I would say. from 90% to 100% the charging rate gets slowed a lot. So basically shouldn't take more than 2:30 hours from 0 to 100%.
Thanks guys. Now I remember it was 2 hours 45 mins for me too at first.
Today it took 4 hrs 30 mins. Reason? I'll say tomorrow, after confirming.

I rarely charge it to 100%, usually to 70 or 80%. much better for the battery in the long term
Any research or refrence for this longevity ? I heard its always better to charge 100% ?

you are welcome. the general rule is to try to 1) avoid charging to 100%, really diminishing return the higher it goes; and 2) avoid deep discharge cycle. I usually use 40% of the capacity at work everyday, so charge to ~70% in the morning, use down to ~30% and then charge again. charging time in this range is rather linear, about 1 percent a minute

Yeah, it happened to mine too few days back. My Note2 went crazy, taking around 7-8 hrs to fully charge from 15%. So, i tried searching about the problem on google but to no avail. Did a factory reset with cache wipe and problem solved :good:. Now it takes about 2.5 hrs to fully charge from say 10% (using the samsung wall charger with phone switched on). I can only say that the slow charging was caused due to some software but don't know exactly which one? You may as well try the hard reset if anything else doesn't work out .
P.S : Btw i'm on stock fw with no root or mod! Only did some OTA updates couple of weeks ago.
Guys, we have a changeable battery and is already writed Inside to android that it won't charge to 100%, it just shows at 100% but really it is at 95%-98% that feature came with 2.2.1 update 2yrs ago.
And we can change the battery after 2yrs for 20-30$, unlike Nokia lumia users or HTC one x or iPhone users.

Yeah, thanks. But if you've Watchdog installed then you can see which app is going over threshold and keep running on background. And yes, this time, again, the culprit was PowerAMP! Uninstalled it and voila. The same app created problem for me when I had my S2, charging was pathetically slow, even I had to go to SC and they said battery is gone. But I didn't believe and asked a techy friend and he said it might be some app, and damn right he was.
Anyway, if anyone having the same issue like mine, that is, charging duration has increased with Stock charger, then install Watchdog (the lite version will do) and see who is the culprit.
I have no idea how a top app like PowerAMP could cause this! Jeez!

I think the first time is so and read can build its battery stats. But after that they say it's actually better to keep battery between 20% and 80% for longer battery life/How many charges it will take.
But I dont think any of us will have the phone long enough for that to matter.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
I agree, plusbit takes too long to drain the battery.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
No, you won't mess up your battery by charging it when it is at 50%.
A full charge cycle is considered going from 0% to 100%, therefore going from 50% to 100% would be half of a cycle. With lithium ion batteries, typically the more cycles that have accumulated the more wear you will see on the battery (it won't hold as much of a charge).
Keep in mind that batteries will deteriorate over time regardless since they are a consumable item, that's just how it works. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
That is strictly to get a more accurate % reading. If it doesn't know where 0% and 100% are it cant calculate in the middle correctly. It's actually not good to spend too much time near either end of the spectrum.

[Q] The Best Way to Charge Battery Galaxy Note 2?

Maybe this question has been asked many time. But I still didn't found the right answer.
My question is really simple.
With current Galaxy Note 2 batteries technology. Which one the best way to Charge it?
A. charge whatever we want
B. charge when batteries below 20%
C. charge whatever we want without waiting until it full charge
D. charge whatever we want and pull off without waiting batteries completed (full charged)
E. charge when batteries below 20% and never pull of before it full charge
F. do whatever we want and we need. Batteries on Galaxy Note 2 is clever that we think
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
The answer is letter A.
We predict what we want with the battery not the other way around.
Charge it when you want to.
And plug off without waiting batteries fully charged?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
best ans probably be A.
lithium ion battery life will getting poor as the number of cycle it charge-discharge no matter you charge at what percentage.

Firstly install Galaxy Current widget and check the current that is getting transferred how much Volts, Make sure you try this with the Wall out let as well as USB from your pc and make a note of it and let XDA know here and we will suggest if there is any problem or not.
also mention if its complete Stock or Rooted and What Mods are implemented ?
Ok I'll do this first and let u know.
Thanks a lot.

Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Average normal charging time from 0 to 100percent is 2hours, regardless of the rom, from an AC wall charger. And about 4hours from a USB connected to the computer. 1hour is very unusual, I would suggest doing a full system wipe and reinstall the rom. If the charger is delivering above normal current then it may damage the battery in the long run.
