[Q] Linux 3.4 Kernel Battery Drain - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys, so i have an overall question. why does my phone get massive battery drain when on a 3.4 kernel. on a 3.0 kernel i get amazing baterry life, but on a 3.4 its unusable. is this a known issue, i have looked around and seen some others complaining about this. is there a fix for this or what. Also is there anything that i need to do to fix this
'thanks in advanced

The 3.4 kernels are pretty new. Expect hiccups, and also that things are probably a little more redundant than necessary. May be why you have bad drain.

Try using dkp. I'm not gonna link to it because its easy enough to search. (Dkp d2spr). In the test build section, the most recent and at the top. That gives me good battery life with these settings. I've never gotten good battery life with the included kernels, I think they're more aimed at stability and performance.

thanks for your help guys, i tried dkp it was better but i just switched back to a 3.0 rom, hopefully 3.4 becomes more evolved cause all the new roms use it and i gotta miss out on it

[Q] (kernel) battery saver

What would you say is the best battery saving kernel? I need to go a days worth of battery , and I use my phone heavily.
I use jd mod 102310.
I'm currently testing kings cfs#8 but its dying fast why? I just loaded the rom after a full charge.
How long will the battery life start to kick in?
Please help me.
Advice is needed.

I may be fairly new, but I'm pretty sure this should be up in the Q&A Section, no?
Anyhow, I guess it all depends, not all EVO's are made the same... Experimenting and tons of testing is the failsafe route. If there were a single, uniform easy-peasy kernel that allows the user to save battery life by just flashing a Kernel, then I guess there wouldn't be much fun in development anymore, no?
Personally, I got the best battery life from the Fresh 3.3.0.1 ROM and KingxKlik's Kernel #11 CFS, but I switched to CM6.1 and used the CMSnap 7.6 Kernel and got a decent 8 hours of heavy usage.
Sorry answer so vaguely, but it's from my noggin and experience (so far) wit XDA-Forums

[Q] gingerbread-evo-deck [1.3][2.3.7 Stable] - Battery life questions

First off, thank you to everyone who contributes to this community! I have been on here for some time now and the help/information available in these forums is amazing!
I hope that I am not being a noob by starting this thread and apologize ahead of time if I am incorrectly posting this. As I do not have very many posts under my belt I am unable to post to the development thread nor does it seem according to the forum rules that I should be posting questions like this there anyway. The last thing I want to do is upset anyone in this fabulous community.
Now down to business!
I am running the "gingerbread-evo-deck [1.3][2.3.7 Stable]" and just have a couple questions concerning my final setup to maximize battery life. I am in love with this ROM and all things deck but do have a couple concerns. Battery life is fantastic for me while phone is not in use but the battery does seem to drain quickly while actually using it. I am currently using Tiamat_Evo-v4.0.6-sbc kernel and have been running it for about a week now.
Q1: Should I be using Tiamat_Evo-v3.3.7-sbc Kernel(or "Lee" as I believe it is commonly referred to)? And, does this kernel offer full support for wimax and hdmi? From what I gather this seems to be the preferred kernel for AOSP ROMs.
Q2: What is proxsensorfix.zip? I saw this as an attachment in the development thread. Is this the fix for the Android System spike in battery stats? Will this improve battery life, and is it compatible with this ROM? Are there any negatives to applying this fix?
Q3: I think I have seen it mentioned that by downgrading the radio from the most recent release that battery life can be improved. Can anybody confirm this? What are thoughts on this?
Thank you in advance for any info that can be given on these subjects!

Q1: 3.3.7 SBC or 4.0.8 SBC kernels have worked great for me on Deck GB 1.3.
Q2: Not sure about proxsensorfix.zip, but the phone.apk w/o proximity is what I use, as I've heard the proximity sensor does use more CPU, which drains battery faster.
Q3: I'm using the latest radio and WiMax, and experience no problems whatsoever.
IMHO, Deck's 1.3 is the best ROM out there hands down. I've been using his AOSP ROMs from the start and have not been disappointed. PM me if you have any questions......
Have you considered using vipermod to undervolt? it will save you more battery

Thanks for the suggestion. I have not done any undervolting yet but was thinking about looking into it.
Okay, I'm pretty settled in on the Lee kernel now and have undervolted 50mv. Things are running pretty smooth.
Another question tho! Is the V6 Supercharger suppose to help with battery life at all? This is not entirely clear to me. And if not, I don't see much need for it as my phone seems to run just fine without it.
Also... android system spike in the battery stats, seemingly after a phone call. Is there a fix for that? This also is unclear.

[Q] Best ROM for Battery Life w/out poor performance?

I'm wondering what the best ROM for battery life and performance is today?
There's a couple other threads, but they're all from before JB got really popular.
I'm on JB right now, but I'd be happy to switch to something else for better battery life (it's really poor right now) and that's not so... broken.
Advice please? and if there's a good JB ROM for this, enlighten me.
Thanks.

This has been covered already in other threads, but both Evervolv's and CM10 by Pons are extremely stable versions of JB. As far as battery life goes, that'll depend greatly on your usage, but battery life on CM10 is only slightly worse than CM7 was for me, which was 1000x better than stock sense.
TLDR: Try new roms to see what works for you.
As above, this information has been posted before and people's suggestions for ROM's are all in this thread here. Best ROM threads aren't allowed but that thread was allowed to remain for people to share their opinions so please use that as all further best ROM threads will get closed.
Thanks

Kernel and Rom for Battery and Screen On Time(SOT)

I have created this thread to get peoples opinion on what they think the best kernel and rom combination is for battery life and screen on time. I would not consider this a thread to be created in the Q&A forums due to the fact I am strictly directing this at Sprint LS980 users, while in the Q&A forum it would be open for everyone. Yet here viewed mainly by LS980 users
I am currently on: Rom: Optimus DE v2.2
Kernel: Stock ZVA
Yes I know I am based on 4.2.2, I decided to give the rom and kernel a chance to see what battery life was like. I have just recently flashed it as of 20 minutes ago and I am hoping that the Stock ZV8 kernel gives me more battery life than Savoca's kernel that was built into the rom.
Overall a great rom stability and performance wise. With stock everything from the Optimus 2.2 rom I had around 4.5 hours of SOT. I did not let the kernel settle either I used it for one day so that may of effected my battery life
So what would you suggest for a kernel and rom setup for awesome battery life and screen on time?
This is solely to help Sprint G2 users with LS980.
***Please include kernel version and rom version also***
***Including Kernel settings and app used would also greatly be appreciated***[/CENTER]
Lets help everyone achieve the amazing potential this phone has!
Thanks in advance!
If everyone ran the same apps, had the same accounts with the same amount of updates (emails, facebook messages, etc...), same calls, messages, brightness level, same stuff turned on (nfc, etc..) Then you could somewhat accurately determine what the best setup is. There are too many factors that could affect battery life besides the rom and kernel. Battery life is ymmv. Threads like these sometimes get heated and nothing helpful really ever comes from them.
Keep your brightness down, use better battery stats to check for wakelocks, and Google to hunt down a fix if you have one.

Sorry, OP. There is a thread for LS980 specific QA discussions. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g2/help

Serious heating issues!!!

I'm using this ROM for about past 4-5 months. Initially there was no issue other than random reboots and the battery life was OK. But not I'm facing serious heating issues and the battery life is pathetic. I get around 1:30-2hrs screen on time.
Is there any other ROM with better battery life?
Your poll is pointless...
There is no best rom, try them yourself. I recommend RR with team m8 kernel.
As for your heating issues maybe it's some rogue app hogging all the resources. The second guess is wrong kernel settings - if you have changed them recently that is.

I agree. Picking a ROM shouldn't come down to a popularity contest. Just because it works for someone else, doesn't mean it will be the best for you. Folks should try the ROMs, and decide from themselves.
I try a lot of ROMs for fun but at the end of the day, it's the stock that I've found to be the most stable. If you're looking for no issues then try out any Sense 7 based ROM
