If you're rooted you should be able to install rom manager, and then install CWM from there.

im already on CWM but i want the official through rom manager. i flashed a recoveryimg. from the odin flashable thread

If you install Rom Manager while rooted, go into the app, it should install the official CWM over your current install.

I loved TWRP when I was on the S3, but on the S4 it appears to be too sensitive. When I try to install a zip file and scroll down the list of folder using my finger it will enter that folder i did not pick.

I have many app ideas, but don't have the skill or the time to learn how to make an app. if you would like to know an idea and attempt to make one, just message me.

Great, I'll switch back when that is fixed. Right now I am using the OUDHS CWM based Recovery cause the text is readable. The text in the regular CWM is too tiny to read, I have to use a magnifying glass to read the options

Yes, there is an issue with that since the touch screen is so much more sensitive on the S4, but it will be fixed soon. Team Win is working on it.

How to flash a newer version of CWM safely

I initially rooted with http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/GalaxyS3ATT/rooting/GalaxyS3RootATT.zip that I got from here yesterday but feel like it has been al ittle glitcht.y http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-att-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747/
the newer version is recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.5-d2att sI don't want it to conflict with the old version of CWM or anything it leaves behind. hould I just do it through odin?
the best route would be to flash from rom manager.....and if not, grab the latest from the interwebz and run this from terminal
su
if=/sdcard/ recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
reboot recovery

Should I use the CWM that I already installed or install the CWM that comes with rom manager (in the drop down menu it only offers galaxy s2...fyi I've always flashed with CWM without ROM manager)?

what do you mean "through" rom manager. Did you flash an image through it? Could you provide the link for that image?
OR
Rom Mangaer has an install CWM recovery option...but underneath that option I do not see the Galaxy S3 listed...so what phone did people select?

The first option in RM is to flash a recovery. Upon pressing that you are given a list of phones. Scroll down to the Samsung GS3 and choose it. It will then flash the recovery within RM.

AhAh! I knew i wasn't crazy... I have the same problem with Rom Manager , it won't show the S3 in the Menu. I tried uninstalling, wiping app data, reinstalling, Nothing, Nada, Niet ...... Let me know if you find a solution to this
I've had issues getting ROM manager to recognize me as a gs3 as well that's why I learned the terminal commands lol

Terminal is as easy as the rest. I posted the commands up top, I see you didn't read the whole thread ;p ****, terminal is easier BC you can pick any recovery you want. Besides, it makes u feel like a true dev ;p
cool
I do not have any SG3 as an option to flash. How do i fix this?

Hey my md5 checksum has a mismatch, but I know the files are fine. is there a terminal command to recompile the md5 for a given image?
Also I noticed the new version of CWM has teh option to backup files as TAR, wouldn't that be better since Odin flashes Tar? If you couldn't get into CWM for some reason you can just flash for Odin?
Forgive me if I'm being newb here had my phone for three days after a motorola bravo

[Q] Latest flashable CWM

I cant seem to find a flashable CWM 6.0.1.1 :crying:
As far as I know there is no CWM 6.0.1.1. Atleast not for the ATT version.
There are other Clockwork mods though, I will list them for you:
Normal Clockwork Recovery: http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.5-d2att.img
Touch Clockwork Recovery: http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.5-d2att.img
-- For these two clockwork mods to work they need to be installed in a special way. You must download one of the above, rename the file to recovery.img and put it on your main microSD card or internal memory.
Now, assuming you know how to use ADB,
Open up the cmd prompt and navigate to the ADB folder.
type adb shell
once in the shell type su
then type
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
And here is a link to the TWRP Recovery thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1793224
I hope this helps.

Please make sure your information is correct before posting. This is from the ROM manager website. I don't think it gets more official than this.
well, can't upload screenshot. Just google "ROM manager apk" and it will get you to the official page.

I don't understand where you are going with that? The site, does not have the touch version *anymore* tho it did a few weeks before when i installed it. i was asking if anyone knew of an update in the near future.
Wasn't aimed at you in particular Eatonjb. I just saw a couple conflicting posts offering less than correct info. that's all.
You can b/u to your external sd card with 5.8.4.5. I didnt see that option w/other versions.

New version just released this morning. (2.3.1) and works great. Don't use 2.3.0 as there have been issues.
1) Install GooManager from the Play Store
2) Open GooManager and provide root permissions
3) Hit Menu (or the button with the 3 dots on your screen) and then Install OpenRecovery

Make sure when you see the aroma screen you choose custom install not typical, the typical has a bug, then once you choose custom hit reboot and it will reboot 3 times and take a while to load so let it sit it takes time to Finnish.
