Galaxy Nexus freezes while on network - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Ill give my full story just to try and keep things clear as possible.
I recently rooted my Gnex and had no apparent issues. I was running ParanoidAndroid 3.15 and everything was smooth. yesterday, my phone started freezing at random moments. It quickly escilated to the phone freezing not on start, but once any app was used. Opening the app drawer, google now, text messaging, phone, etc. I whiped dalvik, cache, and it didint help. I did a factory reset and it still was freezing. I whiped the system, and reflashed factory OS, 4.1.1, unrooted, and the issue seemed to go away, but about 10 minutes later, it continued. Factory reset again, and couldnt make it past the activation screen without freezing. I went to the verizon store and reactivated my old DroidX ( the issue continued while at the verizon store). Now that there is no network active on the phone, there is no issue at all. Runs quicker than ever. Im confused as to this issue and google / forum search has given me nothing except topics that are about freezing or softbricking that dont really apply to my issue. I miss my Gnex and i want to reactivate it but not to just have it begin freezing again. Im running TWRP on my phone if it matters. I also was NOT able to collect any bug reports while it was locking up. It would even lock up on the power options menu. Once i reflashed factory OS, it would be inteligent enough to reboot once it realized it freezed but not before. The issue doesnt come up while on WiFi ( i had hoped it would for debugging purposes.) Any advice would make me happy as ball$.

Error messages, process failure

Hello, I have a weird situation on my hands here and was wondering if you might be able to help.
Firstly...
HTC incredible.
CM-7.0.3 stable (most recent)
CM kernel2.6.37.4 #27
Overckocled 1.1GHz
radio 2.15.00.09.01 (going to work now, need to update, just saw it was outdated)
Long story short.
my phone has been working fine, no issues whatsoever until yesterday. Yesterday my Market app and browser started crashing as soon as I started them.
Today more things are crashing, and at a much higher rate of failure. Normally I would just clear the cache, and the applications cache, and the problem would be fixed (this has been a problem in the past) however this is more than just one application.
popup error reporting reports that specific applications have failed (market, browser, etc), but I also get general "framework" crash popups. Ideas?
Side note. I am also noticing a very long startup time on restarts, much longer than in the past.
I have not made any recent changes to my phone (over-clocking, kernels, radios, ROMS) other than of course installing apps.
Warning message example.
com.android.market
com.google.processes.gapps
android.processes.media
Ideas
first thing i would do is clear cache and dalvik cache and try fixing permissions.
If those don't work which I won't be surprised if they don't I would...
clear all data and reflash the ROM. Quick and Painless with titanium backup.
I already cleared the caches and fixed permissions.
I know re-flashing everything will work, and I have doen that in the past, however I am really tired of it. It seems to be mort stable now, and almost fixed completely. (I didn't change anything after repair attempts stated above)
My question is really what ic causing this, and is there anything I can do to stop this from happening.
If this is something that happens all the time.... must be something you are specifically doing.
My friends inc was doin the same.thing. I couldn't even get into Rom manager or titanium. Never ran into that problem before in almost a year with the inc. Reflashing was the only thing that worked. As for the cause... its a computer. Computers don't need reasons to go hay wire.
There was a time my inc wouldn't stop rebooting... multiple times a day... very annoying. Did everything including goin back to stock. One day after a couple months of that crap.... it just stopped randomly rebooting...
Well...
Firstly I agree, but dont know why...
This happens with different severity levels on average .9 times a month.
The strange thing is that I do nothing specifically at the time to cause this. No kernel installs, reflashes, rom updates, radio updates, or anything specific. It is just general use. It is not as if this happens as soon as I do anything in particular.
Any thought on any specific configurations that might cause this to happen over time, or settings that I can change? I would understand this happening on a system update, or major change, but that does not seem to be the cause in this case, or any other times this has happened.
What I would do...
Go completely back to stock. Run that for a month. If it STILL happens... take it to Verizon to exchange for a new one cause this isn't normal.
Thats the thing...
Hmmm... I have considered doing that. I am not sure I want to go through the trouble. Any other thoughts? (assuming that the phone itself is fine for the sake of this thread.)

Phone/Screen locks up [CM10.1]

Hey all, my phone keeps freezing. It's anytime I interact with it, it has a chance to lock up hard. I just went to unlock the phone and it froze as soon as I touched the 'lock' to unlock the phone. I recently tried doing a full wipe but it didn't make any difference. This has been happening since Christmas, I'd been hoping new nightlies would fix it, but so far nothing has changed.
Last night I was playing Pandora and went to hit 'next', the screen froze when I unlocked and hit the button, but music kept playing like nothing was wrong. Previously, I thought it was Swype causing it, but it's not just the keyboard popping up anymore that's giving me this behavior.
Is there a log or something I can view to see what is happening and causing this? It's extremely irritating and I just want to fix it.
CM10.1 Nightly
KT747 (1-10-2012) Edit: I'm going to flash today's nightly without the kernel to see if that helps.
Try doing a fresh installing, clear everything several times, dont restore any data

That's my next step. Without the KT kernel my issues are significantly reduced, I think I'll wipe and not restore my apps/settings/texts.

[Q] Audio player becomes possessed and scrolls through songs

Hi,
I have an issue that started happening a few weeks ago. I would be using Google Music and listening to a CD (stored locally on my device), and then then the songs would start randomly changing...sometimes it would happen every few seconds...sometimes several times within a second..(as if someone had control of my device). When I go to stop google music (by hitting the X), it would start back up and start playing. [It will NOT jump outside of the playlist/cd selected....and it won't always skip in order....]
I rooted my phone a month or two had have been running EclipticOne6 [Keeping up with the latest releases]...with no issues until a few weeks ago [I thought it might have initially been related to constantly switching skin packs...]
I then went and tried wiping my device [Factory Reset...and even Advanced Wipe (everything including Internal storage)].and doing a fresh full install of 4.4...but that didn't fix it.
Last weekend i wiped it again and a completely new rom [Santod040's stock rom (updated 6/11/14)] and was fine for a few days, then it started reappearing. I've not installed any new programs....it's not constant.....but it's SUPER annoying.
Everything else works just fine on the phone.
Few things I've tried/Notes:
Doesn't happen all the time (sometimes it'll be fine for an hour....sometimes it'll happen almost immediately)
Rebooting/clearing cache doesn't appear to have an effect (no worse/no better)
I even tried another music app (AIMP)...and it did the same thing [In case this was related to some google service]
I've tried disabling any other running programs [Using Greenify and SDMaid]
It doesn't appear to be tied to a "timed" event....ie...doesn't happen every "5" minutes [Like a program wakes up and trips it]
I do use TIBU to restore apps/data (have been using this for years)
Lately, I've been Google restore my apps/settings when setting up the phone with each rom update
Once right after this happened I opened up MX Player (for video)....and the same thing happened....
I'm not new to rooting/unlocking/roms [been beating the heck out of many devices over the years ]
I've done a bunch of searches but can't seem to get a hit related to this
This will happen if I'm holding my phone still (so I don't think this is related to touching the volume button or activating something in my pocket.).....??
Anyone have thoughts / things to try? My next attempt might be to do a factory reset, and wipe everything and start from scratch...but that's a bit drastic. Or worse yet....return it to Verizon and have them give me a new phone (unrooted/locked)....
Thanks in advance,
Rez
Try the decrypted RUU in development section. It could be a bad partition screwing things up and an ruu is the only fix for that.

I had the exact same issue before. And it only happens when I have headphones in. I think its a ROM issue. I havent had it happen in a while though. Im using Nusense

Nexus 5X reboot problems

If you're having reboot problems please post here - if there are problem apps or bad devices out there it would be good to know!
Got a new Nexus 5X yesterday for my partner. Plugged it in and charged all day (oh what patience). 10pm started setup and added account to it. Phone immediately did an update which succeeded. Then it started to install the saved apps from the Google account, about 50 in all. After all the apps were installed I handed it over to her to play and log into all those apps with logins. Tedious.
Within about 30 minutes she tried to take a photo and it rebooted. Then a bit later she was using it and it rebooted again. Before going to be it rebooted a few more times. Then again this morning. There wasn't one particular app or other that was in use when these crashes happened. During the day she saw a message about "Google needs to restart". Also the camera often comes up with an all black screen and can't be used.
I called Google tech support and they wanted to do a factory reset and maybe a cache partition wipe. They would also like to investigate if a rogue app is causing the crashes by using it without any apps installed. Because reinstalling apps is so tedious I decided to have her do a cache partition reset I'm awaiting news. I'm hoping we don't have to do the other... I can't imagine how a bad app could be causing such repeated crashes (well I can, but it just shouldn't happen). That's lame...
It would really help if it was easy to get a crash log and find out the cause - unfortunately unless you're rooted this doesn't seem to be easy, and may well be impossible.
I've been having a lot of similar-sounding issues with my 5X. It's never rebooted while I was using it, but once or twice a day I'll pull it out of my pocket and it will be off, awaiting the unlock pattern to boot up.
The camera has been atrocious as well. I've seen the black screen you describe, tons of rotation lag, hanging, etc. Not just in Camera, but in other apps using the camera (such as when attaching a photo to a Hangout). Hoping this is something software-related and not a hardware problem.
I've had mine spontaneously reboot twice so far, both times I've pulled it out of my pocket and it required the PIN to unlock, then it booted up. I'm a bit concerned, as I have no idea when this happened, and, since it's encrypted a reboot essentially puts me offline until I notice it.
I just now had mine reboot during active use for the first time. I was long-pressing a wifi network in order to forget it (which is another 5x problem I keep having—wifi turns itself off or connects to the wrong networks).
My 5x was working fine and the crashing started happening yesterday...
they only app that i recently installed before the crashes started was firefox... are you guys using firefox by any chance???
Mine is still working fine, I do not have Firefox.
Same problem for me when using Firefox. The phone seems to crash and reboot when loading news websites containing photos and videos.
Not seen the issue when not using Firefox.
I've had my nexus 5x since mid/late November 2015. I've had the problem described below happen prior to today, and more than once.
Today, I cant turn my phone off - it seems to be in the middle of a reboot... the four coloured circles (google logo?) with colours going round and round. I powered it off cos it had started going slow... thought a reboot might fix the problem... but now its not starting and I cant even turn it off or do anything with it.. I've tried pressing the power button, I've tried holding the power button down, and I've tried different combinations... nothing seems to make a difference... (has been in that state of un-useablity for at least 30 mins now)
Anyone else also having wi-fi issues where facebook has an error and "cant connect" ?
I had the same thing happen and returned the phone, it's the only solution I found. I factory reset multiple times, called up Google and they told me to safe boot. Right.. I was completely stock and it rebooted multiple times / day and I know what I'm doing too, for the most part anyway. Got a replacement device and it has not once rebooted no matter what I do. Camera, Chrome random apps caused a reboot, it's not that. It's a defective device and you need to get it replaced period.
I have the same thing and can't sent it back to google because I live outside the US.
I believe it is a manufacture defect as I tried everything with no success really annoying.
Stuck with a brick...

I used my phone completely stock for weeks and had zero issues, whereas I have a friend who ordered and received the phone at the exact same time (likely same mfg batch) and had issues. Difference between us two is that I'm a minimalist and only have about 50 apps installed, and he has a ton that he rarely uses and restores them every time.
I know it seems ridiculous, but having an android phone gives you more customization and your apps more power of the phone, so it's completely feasible for ONE rogue app to destroy performance and/or battery.
You guys might all want to try uninstalling apps one by one and figuring out which apps are killing performance. In particular, check out the running services (developer options -> running services) and see which apps are constantly running, since those are more likely to be the ones causing issues.
For example, I've used firefox (for adblocked browsing) for weeks recently, and can definitely say it's a pretty slow app, so if you're having issues on it, you may want to just use chrome or lightning browser.
I just ordered a replacement as well. Mine would reboot about 1 to 2 times a week right after the fingerprint unlock. Annoying as hell today because I was in the middle of a conf call.

VS985 non-random Reboots during phone calls any help would be amazing

I have a Verizon VS985 running 5.1.1 completely stock, never rooted or anything.
My phone works perfectly I can use it for days with no problems....
That is unless I make or receive a phone call. During phone calls my phone will freeze for a second lockup, then reboot itself. Once it reboots it's usually fine. It used to happen pretty infrequently like once every couple of weeks, so I ignored it. But now its happening at least once a day.
So I ask does anyone have any ideas at all what might be causing this? It seems to me it's gotta be software related, maybe?
I have 3 different batteries all genuine LG, it happens with all 3 of them, so it seems to be it can't be a battery issue (correct me if I'm wrong).
If there's any other information you need, please ask. Thank you xda community you are awesome.
Same issue
My phone will randomly reboot itself during a phone call. It has happened as many as four times during the attempt to finish one phone call.
Long story short, since my first message got erased by accident. I don't know if mine is fixed or not, since it happens hit and miss. I went to storage options and saw I had like 12 gigs of cached data, since it was counting all of the system files as cached data. I tapped cached data and cleared it. All the system files went back to misc folder where they normally are, and so far after about a week I haven't had a restarted. Could just be a coincidence. Clearing the cache daoesnt lose anything, although for some odd reason some apps seemed to lose random settings, and some required I relogin.
